Teig resting in a field of snow leftover from the winter snows above Parshall Colorado. We had a fun day exploring the hills and ridges with the Colorado River flowing through the valley below. My brother was flyfishing but we decided we needed to stretch our legs and climb a few of the hills and get some fantastic views in this area.

Day 2 was a rough day. The heat got to me and exerted myself way too much. I read about not going too hard at the beginning and still made the mistake. I wrote this the morning of day 3. I had heat exhaustion and fell asleep right after I set up my tent that evening on day 2. This was a difficult time for me. I was upset at myself for having to depend on other people. My confidence in being able to continue was very low. I was discouraged and weak. Here’s my first full day on trail journal entry: 7/16/19 ~ Day 2 ~ 17.3 miles Mile 26.4 of CT I was so bad that I couldn’t even write this yesterday. I hiked with 2 older guys. Very nice. Ran out of water and Scott gave me some of his. Collapsed in the shade and vomited a few times. Never felt so weak in my life. Copper got really hot too... It was a horrible first day. Pushed myself too far... Didn’t eat much of anything.
