CODEX ENTRY: THE HERO OF FERELDEN - DINAYA TABRIS
Tumblr media
The Hero of Ferelden grew up in Denerim's impoverished elven alienage. A bitter clash with a Denerim noble during her wedding resulted in her facing arrest by the city guards. The Grey Warden Commander Duncan recruited Dinaya, saving her from a certain death sentence.
Rumors sprouted of her having entered into a romantic relationship with a former Chantry sister and Orlesian bard during the Fifth Blight, though these rumors remain unconfirmed.
After defeating the Archdemon and ending the Fifth Blight, Dinaya took up the mantle of Warden - Commander of Ferelden. She began the task of rebuilding the order in Ferelden until her disappearance several years later.
Inquisition agents later uncovered that she had left to travel west in search for a cure to the Calling.

Dragon Age : The Veilguard — Codex Entry
Miscellaneous — Communal Notes on the Lighthouse
Thank you for your notes, Bellara. You’ve discovered fascinating things about these artifacts. —Emmrich
Thanks, Professor! I wish I knew more about the Lighthouse itself. The ancient elves crafted a lot of places right inside the Fade, but this one’s so calm. You really think it “likes” company? —Bellara
Yes, from the way the esthetic flows bends to the pulse of this place. The Lighthouse is shielding us from the stronger currents. Without it, we’d attract dangerous company in the Fade. —Emmrich
Did Solas build this place himself? How old is it? So many mysteries! —Bellara
Speaking of which, wherever did this stain come from? —Emmrich
Sorry! Coffee spilled when an artifact went off. —Bellara
Let us begin a fresh page. —Emmrich

Codex entry: Solas (2/2)
"Inquisitor,
Despite my efforts, I have been unable to locate Solas. From the site of your battle with Corypheus, he was last seen headed west, still distraught over the destruction of the orb Corypheus carried. From there he disappeared, evading my people so easily and so completely that I am forced to wonder how much he knew about them.
When Solas initially approached the Inquisition and offered aid, I questioned him extensively about his background and history. He was evasive, but he did give the name of the village where he grew up, noting that it was small, unlikely to appear on any map.
I hate loose ends, so I kept a few of my agents searching, to verify his story. They recently located the village… or what remains of it. It is a ruin, as it has been for centuries, its name preserved only in degraded form in Ancient Tevinter mysteries. Whoever Solas truly is, wherever he came from, he has deceived us from the very start.
I apologize for not investigating this more thoroughly while Solas was here. He was clearly helping us, and other matters were of greater urgency, but it was an oversight nevertheless, given how little he shared with us. It is not clear what his plans are, if any, but I will continue to search.
Leliana"

A Letter Dated Six Months Ago [COMPLETE]
If Rook is an Antivan Crow:
Idiot:
I hope you're reading this. If the trail really has led you to Tevinter, it'll be harder to get messages through. The Antaam in Antiva are prickly about anything to do with our neighboring kingdom.
Back home, things have cooled, but they are not forgotten. Killing all those Antaam may have felt righteous in the moment, but the Talons are still complaining that your actions ruined weeks of setting up a larger, more effective strike.
I am one of those Talons still complaining. Consider this trip with Varric a contract. Crows don't fail contracts, especially Crows from House de Riva who may need to improve their judgment. But there is more at stake than honor. Whatever this Solas is up to needs to be stopped. I've seen enough of his handiwork to know that.
Don't get careless out there. Don't fail, and don't get yourself killed, or I will come after you in the Fade myself.
Viago
If Rook is a Grey Warden:
Warden [surname],
If our calculations are correct―and none of us have gone astray―this letter should be at the inn where you and Varric are to meet Scout Harding. As with Varric, we worked with her before. She's a good scout and a good shot. We think you'll like her. Please tell her we say hello!
Anyway, to the point! It's probably best you've gone to work with Varric a while. Our superiors in the Wardens can't deny that the village is safe and the darkspawn stopped. But they are still not especially pleased with you. Or your methods. Or the people who helped with your plan. Evka and I have been given a somewhat remote assignment that no one else wanted. But we are no strangers to that! We've enclosed a list of addresses where you are most likely to reach us for the next few months. Should you need.
Finally, do not feel you are in exile. We know something of what Varric is after. When the world needs protection from malevolent forces―that's what Grey Wardens do! You're in the right place.
Be vigilant and stay safe.
Your Friends, Antoine and Evka
If Rook is a Mourn Watcher:
Watcher [surname]:
Thank you for the latest dispatch concerning your venture with Master Varric Tethras. Given that you've spent much of your life in the Grand Necropolis, traveling further north must be a stimulating prospect. And you will be relieved, no doubt, to hear that the crypts have been silent since your departure. Some of the other Watchers continue to censure your methods during the War of the Banners, but I will work to ensure that they reconsider while you are away.
Master Tethras's claims that this "Solas" is an elven god bear witnessing. Even if Solas is merely a renegade mage using spirits for dire purposes, that alone is call for a Watcher to oppose him.
Vorgoth and I wish you fine luck on your journey. Remember: even outside Nevarra, the dead are ever ready with their supernal aid.
Watcher Myrna, Keeper of the Seals
If Rook is a Shadow Dragon:
[surname]:
Good to hear from you. I hope the North is treating you well, even if your quarry remains elusive.
Things here in Minrathous go about as well as expected. Venatori presence continues to grow, the result of an obscene amount of gold being funneled into the cult by sympathetic magisters. Some of the Shadow Dragons have had run-ins with some of them, particularly the ones seeking revenge for your shutting down of their slaver ring in Nessus.
But don't trouble yourself. This is nothing we can't handle. For now, focus on your work with Varric. A strong alliance with someone with ties to the Inquisition and Kirkwall can only benefit the Shadows and the people we serve.
Bring the light, and good luck, Viper
If Rook is a Veil Jumper:
[surname],
Strife has finally given up sending teams out to rediscover the route that was lost. Without the magic in the map, the paths will not open, and the map is gone. I know it was difficult for him to make the final decision. You could see the angry vein in his forehead for days after.
Now maybe he can start to move past it. Most of the others have already. But, of course, as the leader of that mission, he views your defiance, and the outcome that resulted, as something of a personal failure. We will give him time. You being away is a blessing, and we all hope that your work with Varric Tethras is going well.
You will be glad to hear that some of the younger Veil Jumpers are quite excited about you being on the trail of the Dread Wolf himself. You must regale them upon your return.
Irelin

Oct 28 - Favourite Inquisition lore/codex entry
I knew the answer to this prompt from the beginning of October. Arboreal Fort from Jaws of Hakkon DLC. Let me give you the idea:
Flatten the area? —Cullen Of course the commander suggests hitting the hills until they forget they're hills. —L We could look into getting the soldiers to cut steps into the cliffs or construct structures with some form of verticality. Scaffolding, perhaps? —Josephine I was joking. Meanwhile, have you threatened to cut out anyone's tongue today? —Cullen Thinking about it right now. —L
Source
We rarely see the silly chats of our advisors, they're all composed, wise and serious. Meanwhile they actually are just 30-year-old traumatized people trying to make sense of everything going around (like the Inquisitor and the companions, no matter what age they are). And to see them making fun of each other in a friendly banter is brilliant. I like the Wicked Grace scene as the next DAI fan, but here we see them in a familiar environment and can catch a glimpse of what's really going on in the War room.
I'm myself a traumatized 30-something-year old person, who likes being silly, so I relate to them really strong.

Codex Entry: Primer on Personal Weapons of Major Galactic Races
With the galaxy being as dangerous as it is, only about 35% of it falling under the Council-set guidelines of ‘Safe’, there is a remarkable industry centered around the production of small arms. Several megacorporations and conglomerates have made their name by having at least one company dedicated to providing the galaxy and its militaries with the tools of their trade. However, due to differences in mindsets and tactical priorities, each race’s arms have taken on one or more unique traits, covered below alongside prominent companies.
Human
Human arms manufacturers, such as Beretta-Benelli Arms and Colt-Smith & Wesson Americas under Hahne-Kedar, Hanwha Defense Concern and Howa Machinery under the Ryukami Zaibatsu, or more recent companies such as Jormungandr Weapons Design, largely prize versatility and ease of modification, allowing soldiers to adapt their weaponry to the circumstances presented by their battlefields and for personal preferences. Most human-designed weapons come with multiple firing modes, if not multiple types of ammo usage patterns to fit multiple barrels. It is not a stretch to say that every Alliance soldier’s weapon is unique, no matter how small the mod might be. Some of the most iconic human-produced weapons include the Lancer line of assault rifles produced by Howa Machinery and used by the Alliance military under the designation M-7, the rectangular, blocky K19 ‘Kessler’ pistol produced by HK and issued as a sidearm, and the Frontiersman line of civilian pistols and rifles offered by C-SW.
Turian
Turian weaponry, as exemplified by offerings from Armax Arsenal, Cipritine Armory, or Palaven National Defense, emphasizes precision and reliability of use, often renowned for their durability in the field. While most turian weaponry eschews fully automatic fire, the power usually used to sustain such fire is instead channeled towards the stopping power of their individual shots, or towards modifying the ammo for unique use cases. Notable turian designs include the Cipritine Armory Phaeston, nicknamed by humans the ‘Turian AK’, the Armax Khrysae sniper rifle, which includes an explosive ‘anti-material’ setting, and the PND Joruna submachine gun, tailormade to pierce through kinetic shields, biotic barriers, and armor while retaining a compact, security team-ready design.
Salarian
Salarian designs from companies such as Aegohr Munitions, Halana Tactical Council, and Jezzela Equipment put an emphasis on modified munitions and stealth, slotting in well with the UISC military focus on covert operations, surprise attacks, and maneuver-focused warfare. Such weapons are also favored by those less scrupulous types who wish to catch their opponents off-guard, allowing for a chance to either press the attack or escape. Example weapons include the Scorpion pistol supplied by Aegohr, capable of launching delayed or remote-detonation explosives, the Seeker battle rifle, which comes fitted with a VI that conforms the trajectory of projectiles with split-second activations of ME-fields to desired locations, and the Veil sniper rifle, built to ensure completely silent, unseen usage in the field.
Asari
Asari weaponry, as designed by what few companies like Relessa Defense and Shadowtree Limited there are, are a rare sight in the wider galaxy, both due to the diplomatic nature of the asari’s culture and the emphasis placed by the Asari Military Conclave on their inherent biotic prowess. However, weapons meant to work alongside biotic-focused tactics or make up for any situations where biotics would not be wise to use are found in the possession of most asari soldiers. These weapons are usually capable of being enhanced by biotic power as well, some eschewing the typical alloy mono-block ammunition design to act as amplifiers and foci for biotic power. Examples include the Relessa Acolyte heavy pistol, designed to break through shields and armor that impede biotic attacks, the Shadowtree Tempest assault rifle that acts as the standard platform of the Military Conclave, and the Pulsar biotic focus (or BiFo), fulfilling the role of a submachine gun.
Krogan
Krogan arms are, in most krogans’ words, ‘no frills, all thrills’. Whether they are produced by what manufacturing concerns like Aralakh Weapons Foundries still exist on Tuchanka, or in dozens of ‘homebrew’ manufactories spread across the galaxy alongside their creators and clients, krogan weaponry’s main focus is on raw stopping power, coupled with explosive potential. Examples include the AWF Ogre battle rifle, a two-shot powerhouse that creates rounds almost as large as pre-Mass Effect humanity’s gunpowder-driven bullets, shell casing and all, the Hurex Offensive Claymore shotgun and Graal spike thrower, and the Rachni hand cannon, developed by AWF during the war against its inspiration as a close-in weapon for those krogan found in the press against the creatures, or having charged into close combat against them. Sniper rifles and other long-range implements are a rarity among the krogan due to being regarded as cowardly, though personalized, usually hand-crafted examples exist.
Quarian
While the quarian people, their homeworld and most of their industrial base lost in the Morning War, largely use what weapons they can acquire from human, turian, asari, and salarian sellers, there are still examples of truly quarian craftsmanship that are created on what ships in their massive Migrant Fleet have been converted into mobile manufactories. Named after the ships that they occupy, Tenkelii, Jukoris, and Zebel, companies known among the Fleet as the Triumvirate, are the last bastions of the quarian’s unique style of weaponry. Instead of using alloy mono-blocks, quarian weaponry utilizes miniature plasma generators to create ‘bolts’ of plasma contained in ME-Fields, trading penetrating power for efficacy against shields, barriers, and synthetic targets. With ship bulkheads that the quarians want to minimize the risk of a breach within, and with the geth as their ancient foe, such weaponry is truly a fitting companion to those quarians who manage to acquire one. Examples include the Tenkelii Khalgetr assault rifle, unique in modern weaponry for its ‘particle beam’ mode, Zebel’s Reegar carbine, and the Ganetka pistol produced on the Jukoris.

Dragon Age : The Veilguard — Codex Entry
The Mourn Watch — A Monthly Stipend
I don’t understand why Lucanis claims it’s “bizarre” for Manfred to receive a modest monthly stipend. Manfred may need the funds one day, and he’s capable of making small purchases! (With supervision.) I admit, however, he fancies the strangest things. Some recent acquisitions:
A silver-backed Antivan hand mirror.
Twenty blue marbles.
Four sticks of chalk. (He presented one to Harding.)
A jeweled brooch shaped like a lizard. (I had to make up the difference. He must learn to tell copper from gold.)
A brass cup.
A rather fine quill knife. (Confiscated.)
Two pounds of almonds. (Removed to the kitchen.)
Yet more string.
The latest item cost nothing. Manfred’s become very fond of a little wooden stick he enjoys pointing about.
—From Emmrich’s diary

Codex entry: Fen'Harel: The Dread Wolf
"There is precious little we know about Fen'Harel, for they say he did not care for our people. Elgar'nan and Mythal created the world as we know it, Andruil taught us the Ways of the Hunter, Sylaise and June gave us fire and crafting, but Fen'Harel kept to himself and plotted the betrayal of all the gods. And after the destruction of Arlathan, when the gods could no longer hear our prayers, it is said that Fen'Harel spent centuries in a far corner of the earth, giggling madly and hugging himself in glee.
The legend says that before the fall of Arlathan, the gods we know and revere fought an endless war with others of their kind. There is not a hahren among us who remembers these others: Only in dreams do we hear whispered the names of Geldauran and Daern'thal and Anaris, for they are the Forgotten Ones, the gods of terror and malice, spite and pestilence. In ancient times, only Fen'Harel could walk without fear among both our gods and the Forgotten Ones, for although he is kin to the gods of the People, the Forgotten Ones knew of his cunning ways, and saw him as one of their own.
And that is how Fen'Harel tricked them. Our gods saw him as a brother, and they trusted him when he said that they must keep to the heavens while he arranged a truce. And the Forgotten Ones trusted him also when he said he would arrange for the defeat of our gods, if only the Forgotten Ones would return to the abyss for a time. They trusted Fen'Harel, and they were all of them betrayed. And Fen'Harel sealed them away so they could never again walk among the People."
—From The Tale of Fen'Harel's Triumph, as told by Gisharel, Keeper of the Ralaferin clan of the Dalish elves
