Notes
Everybody is all smiles for the group picture, from heroes to villains and everything in-between. Even characters who were otherwise sticks in the mud like Hank genuinely smile for the picture. Villains such as Muntz, de la Cruz, Lotso, Thunderclap and his gang, Syndrome, Evelyn, Randall, Waternoose, Hopper, Skinner, and Ercole, as much of evil psychopaths they were, are seen tenderly and respectfully singing along. Even Sid, who was a massive bully to Hannah, is seen giving her a kind brotherly embrace. Also, most movies’ main cast seem to be cramped together. Even the villains stand near their respective heroes, everyone in a healthy relationship with their families and loved ones are tenderly holding each other close, and many of the larger characters offer their bodies for the smaller ones.
Forky, Heimlich, Dory, Jack-Jack, Mater, WALL-E, and one of the triplets wave at the camera.
Dim and Wee Dingwall give the camera dopey smiles.
The egg-shaped bluebirds and the gawky bird stand perched above the entrance. The bluebirds are happy to have the gawky bird with them, a far cry from how they treated him in their short.
Sulley carries Boo tenderly in his arms. Helen does the same to Jack-Jack, as do Presto with Alec, Carl and Russell with Kevin’s babies, Elinor and Fergus with their triplet sons, Embarrassment with Envy, Massimo with Machiavelli, and Izzy with Sox.
Terri attempts to dance before his other half stops him.
Hank carries Marlin, Dory, and Nemo in a coffee pot.
Voyd and Abby giddily bounce in place, clearly the most excited for the photo.
Linguini carries Remy while Colette holds Django and Emile.
WALL-E and EVE hold the umbrellas from The Blue Umbrella.
HAN-S still can’t stay still, shaking aggressively as the photo is taken.
Kevin and her babies take the time to mimic Carl once again.
Maudie and the Clan Dingwall hunk share a loving look.
Young Macintosh flexes his pecs while giving the camera a cocky smile, the same type of smile given by characters like Terry, Darby, and Clod.
The Witch has her Crow standing perched on her shoulder.
Being stationary volcanoes, Uka and Lele are unable to leave their photo. Thankfully, they have Thunderclap and his gang to hold it so they can be in the group picture.
Nostalgia sticks her head out from behind Embarrassment, clearly hiding from the other emotions.
Riley, Grace, and Bree all carry Knick together while Riley’s parents carry the Miami and Florida knick knacks, Val and the Fire Hawks carry the Egypt, Jamaica, Palm Springs, Israel, and Death Valley knick knacks, and Coach Roberts carries Sunny Atlantis in her fish bowl.
Cindy, Son’s fiancée, winks at the camera as the photo is taken.
Machiavelli gives the camera his standard bored look.
Mei has her red hair, panda ears, and panda tail, continuing to embrace her panda.
Aaron Z gives the camera a thumbs up while Tae Young makes a heart with his hands.
Izzy gives Sox a neck scratch.
Alisha and Kiko’s inclusion also counts due to their backlash following the movie’s release.

Thanks for tagging me @forasecondtherewedwon!
rules: list 5 of your favourite books on a poll, so your followers can vote which book they think captures your vibe the best
Tagging: @morocorra, @imperpetuallylost, @randomestfandoms, @woodswit, and anyone else who wants to!
Book summaries from Goodreads below the cut:
Libba Bray's The Diviners:
Evie O’Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City—and she is pos-i-tute-ly ecstatic. It’s 1926, and New York is filled with speakeasies, Ziegfeld girls, and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is that she has to live with her uncle Will and his unhealthy obsession with the occult. Evie worries her uncle will discover her darkest secret: a supernatural power that has only brought her trouble so far. But when the police find a murdered girl branded with a cryptic symbol and Will is called to the scene, Evie realizes her gift could help catch a serial killer. As Evie jumps headlong into a dance with a murderer, other stories unfold in the city that never sleeps. A young man named Memphis is caught between two worlds. A chorus girl named Theta is running from her past. A student named Jericho is hiding a shocking secret. And unknown to all, something dark and evil has awakened…
Ami McKay's The Witches of New York:
The year is 1880. Two hundred years after the trials in Salem, Adelaide Thom ('Moth' from The Virgin Cure) has left her life in the sideshow to open a tea shop with another young woman who feels it's finally safe enough to describe herself as a witch: a former medical student and "gardien de sorts" (keeper of spells), Eleanor St. Clair. Together they cater to Manhattan's high society ladies, specializing in cures, palmistry and potions--and in guarding the secrets of their clients.
All is well until one bright September afternoon, when an enchanting young woman named Beatrice Dunn arrives at their door seeking employment. Beatrice soon becomes indispensable as Eleanor's apprentice, but her new life with the witches is marred by strange occurrences. She sees things no one else can see. She hears voices no one else can hear. Objects appear out of thin air, as if gifts from the dead. Has she been touched by magic or is she simply losing her mind?
Eleanor wants to tread lightly and respect the magic manifest in the girl, but Adelaide sees a business opportunity. Working with Dr. Quinn Brody, a talented alienist, she submits Beatrice to a series of tests to see if she truly can talk to spirits. Amidst the witches' tug-of-war over what's best for her, Beatrice disappears, leaving them to wonder whether it was by choice or by force.
As Adelaide and Eleanor begin the desperate search for Beatrice, they're confronted by accusations and spectres from their own pasts. In a time when women were corseted, confined and committed for merely speaking their minds, were any of them safe?
Megan Abbott's Dare Me:
Addy Hanlon has always been Beth Cassidy's best friend and trusted lieutenant. Beth calls the shots and Addy carries them out, a long-established order of things that has brought them to the pinnacle of their high-school careers. Now they're seniors who rule the intensely competitive cheer squad, feared and followed by the other girls—until the young new coach arrives.
Cool and commanding, an emissary from the adult world just beyond their reach, Coach Colette French draws Addy and the other cheerleaders into her life. Only Beth, unsettled by the new regime, remains outside Coach's golden circle, waging a subtle but vicious campaign to regain her position as "top girl"—both with the team and with Addy herself.
Then a suicide focuses a police investigation on Coach and her squad. After the first wave of shock and grief, Addy tries to uncover the truth behind the death—and learns that the boundary between loyalty and love can be dangerous terrain.
Nina LaCour's Everything Leads to You:
A wunderkind young set designer, Emi has already started to find her way in the competitive Hollywood film world. Emi is a film buff and a true romantic, but her real-life relationships are a mess. She has desperately gone back to the same girl too many times to mention. But then a mysterious letter from a silver screen legend leads Emi to Ava. Ava is unlike anyone Emi has ever met. She has a tumultuous, not-so-glamorous past, and lives an unconventional life. She’s enigmatic…. She’s beautiful. And she is about to expand Emi’s understanding of family, acceptance, and true romance.
Sarah Rees Brennan's Tell the Wind & Fire:
In a city divided between opulent luxury in the Light and fierce privations in the Dark, a determined young woman survives by guarding her secrets.
Lucie Manette was born in the Dark half of the city, but careful manipulations won her a home in the Light, celebrity status, and a rich, loving boyfriend. Now she just wants to keep her head down, but her boyfriend has a dark secret of his own—one involving an apparent stranger who is destitute and despised. Lucie alone knows the young men’s deadly connection, and even as the knowledge leads her to make a grave mistake, she can trust no one with the truth.
Blood and secrets alike spill out when revolution erupts. With both halves of the city burning, and mercy nowhere to be found, can Lucie save either boy—or herself?
#tag games#beloved mutuals#books#kind of annoying that the goodreads summary for wind & fire doesn't mention that it's a tale of two cities rewrite...#*singsongs* one of these things is not like the other!!!!#tonally nina lacour is so different from the other authors but idec#she is so good at creating comforting lived in settings#edit: not 3/5 of these books being set in nyc...#I stand by it tho#my favorite city in the world

The raw passions of girlhood are brought to life in this taut, unflinching exploration of friendship, ambition, and power. Writing with "total authority and an almost desperate intensity" (Tom Perrotta), award-winning novelist Megan Abbott delivers a story as unnerving and thrilling as adolescence itself.

The R - Part 1:
What is the connection between Mr Remora and Duchess R [of Winnipeg]?
One of the many mysteries that Lemony Snicket has left behind for readers (and viewers, to a certain extent) is 'What does the R stand for, in "Duchess R" ?' Yeah. Every single one.
Now, let's rule out everyone who does not have a name beginning with R, or is unclear: (again, feel free to skip ahead)
Bald Man with the Long Nose
Mrs. Bass
Henchperson of Indeterminate Gender
Incredibly Deadly Viper
Kind Editor
Man with a Beard but No Hair
Mr. Remora
White-Faced Women
Woman with Hair but No Beard
Wart-Faced Man
Madame diLustro
Monty Montgomery's Sister
Bertrand Baudelaire's Cousin
Foreman Firstein
Coach Genghis
Ms. Tench

Duchess R
R's Mother
R's Father
Young Rölf
Mr. Spats
Mrs. Spats
Town Fathers
As the title states, we'll keep some focus on Remora, but we'll eliminate all other minor characters:
Bald Man with the Long Nose
Henchperson of Indeterminate Gender
Incredibly Deadly Viper
Kind Editor
Man with a Beard but No Hair
Mr. Remora
White-Faced Women
Woman with Hair but No Beard
Wart-Faced Man
Madame diLustro
Monty Montgomery's Sister
Bertrand Baudelaire's Cousin
Robinson
Duchess R
R's Mother
R's Father
Young Rölf
According to Various Fan Deductions:
TMWABBNH & TWWHBNB are Gifford & Ghede
The White-Faced Women are Zada and Zora
Lemony's Kind Editor is Moxie Mallahan
Madame diLustro is Sunny Baudelaire
This rules out the 4 of them.
Bald Man with the Long Nose
Henchperson of Indeterminate Gender
Incredibly Deadly Viper
Mr. Remora
Wart-Faced Man
Monty Montgomery's Sister
Bertrand Baudelaire's Cousin
Robinson
Duchess R
R's Mother
R's Father
Young Rölf
Logically speaking, why would there be a connection between Ink and Duchess R? Let's eliminate unlikely possibilities:
Mr. Remora
Monty Montgomery's Sister
Bertrand Baudelaire's Cousin
Robinson
Duchess R
R's Mother
R's Father
Young Rölf
Monty Montgomery's sister would be (_insert name here_) Montgomery. This, to me, rules her out too... and the same logic applies to Bertrand's cousin.
Mr. Remora
Robinson
(Duchess R)
(R's Mother)
(R's Father)
Young Rölf
Obviously her family are related:
Mr. Remora
Robinson - Islander
Young Rölf
So, the above names are generated. I will, henceforth, analyse a link between each character and R, starting with Remora.
POINTS:
a. It's known that a few characters in the Snicket-verse have alliterating names, such as Quigley Quagmire, Beatrice Baudelaire.
b. It's also known that some characters have WEIRD connections to others, such as Quigley's 'relation' to Mr Poe.
THEORY: Given a. and b. to be true, Mr R _______ Remora, has some abstract connection to the Duchess.
This connection can only really be established if one goes by Netflix canon and assumes Nero's surname to be Feint, and combines this with ATWQ:
Duchess R is Remora's boss' ancestor's murderer's friend.
R's friend is Lemony, who murdered Hangfire, who is the ancestor of Nero, Remora's boss.
Part 2 Still to Come...

unexpected hero
Beth Cassidy was quickly falling apart without her best friend Addy. With Addy always sucking up to Coach Colette French there relationship was getting tense. On top of that Beth’s mom has been using more at home and has been becoming physically violent. Beth was getting ready to head to school one morning when her mom high off her ass came in and started grabbing Beth. Beth tried to shrink away but a well place surprisingly strong punch to the stomach had her curled in a fetal position on the floor [ writers can choose to make this extremely graphic or not it’s up to you!] after the painful beating Beth makes it too school. On her way out she grabbed a handful of her moms strongest pills [ unbeknownst to Beth] in hopes of drowning her sorrows and pain. At cheer practice coach Colette and Beth get into [ you can choose whatever reason really!] and Beth’s storms off into the locker rooms. She stands in front of the bathroom mirror and out of anger of addy not backing her up against coach a couple minutes ago and the pain of her stomach from her mom Beth tosses back all the pills without thinking. Within minutes she feels dizzy. Everyone’s gone home after cheer practice and coach Colette is wrapping up. She find Beth convulsing on the floor of the bathroom dangerously pale and very conscious. Colette rushes to Beth and tries to understand what she is saying. Coach new the signs of overdosing. Beth is in pain and can hardly breath. Coach attempts to put her hand down Beth’s throat to trigger her gag reflex but Beth is thrashing to much. She pulls Beth into her lap and holds her still as she cries in pain. Coach forces her hand down Beth’s throat as she screams in pain while pinning Beth down. She quickly flips Beth over as she throws up. Coach takes a overdoes emergency injector from the first aid kit. Beth gets scared of the needle and tries to stop her but coach forces a hysterical Beth still as she tried to thrash away and painfully injects the thick needle into her neck while soothing Beth too. She then carries Beth to her office to have a chat once she’s conscious again.
this is a outline slash prompt so feel free to make it even more graphic or intense or not. It would mean the absolute world to me if someone would do a one shot or multi-chapter fic of this. Hay House: Heal Your Life+ Virtual Event!
I love free events from Hay House! I have heard from this speaker before, but this group in general doesn't have a bad apple! Highly looking forward to this event!
Mystical Connections: A Day of Spiritual Awakening hosted by Colette Baron-Reid! Here are some tips for before the event:
"I open my heart and mind to any and all practices that will serve my highest good."
Sanctify Your Space
Be Prepared
Set Your Intentions
"I give myself full permission to jump whole-heartedly into whatever calls to me."
So I jump into the event after it was live and I started with a quiz and based on the results I am being called to learn about Energy Healing. Collete Baron-Reid is the host. There are 11 speakers to help connect to the divine! There are direct and indirect messages. If you upgraded your free experience, you can opt in and try to get a reading.
Jeralyn Glass: The power of sound healing. Crystals, Sound, Music. Intentional Vibrational Music.
Collete Baron-Reid: How to navigate the world with Oracle Cards. We are always manifesting, manifest intentionally! Pick a deck or use one digitally (see below). Ground and neutralize before doing a reading. "If my feelings were a place, what is that place...where am I?" You and the place are not one in the same, you are looking at the place. Do a 3 card spread: What do I need to know now for what I want to manifest? | What would my next right action be? | Advice. Who do you need to become to have the experience you want to have? Advise a daily practice of card pulling. Trust the plan, inspiration means of the spirit.
Free Oracle Card Reading | Colette Baron-Reid (colettebaronreid.com)
Kyle Gray: 4 secrets to angel communication. Everyone has angels with you at all times. An angel is divine spiritual energy that is part of the whole. Having that personal experience is one of the hardest things. Most cultures have some idea of angels in them all over the world. If you feel fear, you are on the precipice of a miracle. When you go direct, it's more responsibility. But you are born to be that powerful. 4 tips: visibility (allow yourself to be seen), openness (have your own experience and be open to it), vision of holyness (seeing yourself lovingly), willingness (make a practice a habit).
Sara Landon: She channels the Ascended Council. She has done events with Mike Dooley. She teaches how to channel. Open your own channel to the divine. The voice that guides is subtle, loving, and from within. Go within. Feel love and light. "What does my soul want me to know?" "What does my guide want me to know?" Trust it. Automatic writing is a great way to channel. Accept where you are in this moment, ask yourself-what brings you joy? Messages can come when you least expect it. Trust yourself. Open your channel to the divine. We are all so connected.
Shawn Leonard: He is a psychic medium that helps connect to your spirit animal. In spirit you give to get. All my relations, everything is connected. You are always being watched over. If you feel drawn to a particular animal, talk to them in the spirit world. Talk to the animals you are drawn to.
Dougall Fraser: Aura guide and cosmic coach. psychic, author, intuitive. He sees color. You can change your aura. Most people present 1 or 2 colors. Purple=natural leader, destiny. Step into purple to change your energy. What would a leader do? Energy color is constantly changing. Radiant Green=creativity, communication. Gold=vision into reality, action.
Rebecca Campbell: She guides through a sacred ceremony. Connecting to earth, mother, and ancestors.
Radleigh Valentine: Angels. Work with 4 powerful arch angels. Your life can be what you want it to be. All challenges put you on a path towards joy. There is love behind the lesson and struggle. Don't do it alone, but you are never alone. Angels love you. Archangel Michael=protection, safety. Archangel Uriel=epiphany, transformation. Archangel Jophiel=beauty, faith. Archangel Ariel=courage, manifestation. Transformation is sometimes a solitary thing or a village thing. You are where you are supposed to be. Don't stay stuck or in fear. Don't stay stuck in a lesser version of yourself. You are meant for more. You are loved beyond your wildest dream.
John Holland: embracing your inner oracle. You are a soul that comes to body. If you have a gift, start sharing your gift. Everyone has a different spiritual awakening. Synchronicity is two things coming together with meaning. What is the why behind the want? Set an intention when you wake up. Look out for signs. Reach for your inner technology before your outer technology. Say yes to the universe. Write down the signs. Create a high vibe environment. Do not explain it away. High vibe alignment.
Abriola Abrams: Manifesting with your ancestors.
Sonia Choquette: The world is undergoing massive change. We are creating a new world.
A lot of good speakers today. I love these free events! I am looking forward to the next event, who was your favorite speaker? I loved Dougall Fraser. I am not as strong in auras.

The Best Astrologers in California: A Comprehensive Guide to Spiritual Guides and Psychics
astrologer California
California, known for its diverse culture and vibrant spiritual community, is home to some of the most renowned astrologers and psychics in the world. Whether you're seeking guidance on your life path, answers to personal questions, or a deeper connection with the universe, California offers a wealth of options for those interested in astrology and spiritual practices. This comprehensive guide will explore the top astrologers in California, their unique practices, and what makes them stand out in the realm of psychic and spiritual guidance.
1. The Role of Astrology in Modern Spirituality
Astrology, the study of celestial bodies and their influence on human affairs, has been a part of human culture for thousands of years. In modern spirituality, astrology provides insights into personality traits, life paths, and potential challenges based on the positions of planets and stars at the time of one's birth. Astrologers in California blend traditional techniques with contemporary practices, offering a unique perspective on personal growth and spiritual development.

When selecting an astrologer or psychic in California, it's essential to consider several factors to ensure you find the right fit for your needs. Look for practitioners with positive reviews, a clear understanding of their methods, and a genuine connection with their clients. 12 Low-Sugar Fruits You Should Be Eating, Recommended by Dietitians!
Fruit Contains Sugar But It is Also Packed with Fiber and Other Essential Nutrients.
— By Deborah Murphy, M.S., RDN | April 5, 2024 | Reviewed By Dietitian Maria Laura Haddad-Garcia
Photograph: Getty Images
Many people consume more sugar than they realize. In fact, most U.S. adults consume as much as 17 teaspoons (68 grams) of added sugar daily.1 That’s more than three times the American Heart Association's recommended limit of 6 teaspoons (25 g) of added sugar for women per day and double the teaspoon limit (36 g) set for men. What’s more, excess added sugar is linked to weight gain, type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Brownies and apples both have sugar, so is all sugar the same? Not really. It’s important to understand the difference between natural and added sugar. Naturally occurring sugars are found naturally in foods such as fruits (fructose and glucose) and milk (lactose). On the other hand, added sugars are added to food during processing.
Although your body processes both types of sugar in the same way, it’s important to consider the whole package. Colette Micko, M.S., RDN, CDES, a registered dietitian from Top Nutrition Coaching, says, “There are many benefits to eating whole, unprocessed fruits and vegetables, which often have a moderate amount of natural sugars. Those benefits include fiber, vitamins/minerals and phytochemicals”.
Research also supports the health benefits of fruit despite their sugar content. “A recent study found there to be an inverse relationship between consumption of whole fruit and diabetes risk. The more whole fruit consumed (each 300 gm/day of whole fruit) reduced risk of developing diabetes. This may seem contrary to what most people think,” says Micko.
However, people with diabetes, for example, may need to consider how much natural sugar a food contains. “Any sugar consumption, whether it is natural or added sugars, contributes to total carbohydrates per day. With this, individuals with diabetes may need to reduce their intake of natural sugars to meet their daily total carbohydrates recommended by their registered dietitian or physician”, says Erika Barrera, M.P.H., RDN, registered dietitian and wellness educator at Leafe Nutrition.
To help you navigate your choices when it comes to fruit and sugar, we’ve ranked low-sugar fruits from lowest to highest sugar content.
1. Lemons 🍋🍋🍋 and Limes 🍋🟩🍋🟩🍋🟩
Natural Sugar: 1 Gram Per Piece and 2 Grams Per Piece
Lemons and limes are culinary staples for adding zippy brightness to dishes. They also top this list as the lowest-sugar fruits, with 1 and 2 grams of sugar per fruit, respectively. In addition to their lower sugar content, these citrus fruits are also high in vitamin C. Since snacking on one of these sour fruits alone is unlikely, try them in this flavorful One-Pan Cilantro-Lime Chicken or this refreshing Lemon Frozen Yogurt Ripieno.
2. Avocado 🥑
Natural Sugar: 1 Gram Per Piece
Although many people may assume that avocados are vegetables since they aren’t very sweet, they are actually fruit. These creamy fruits have only 1 gram of sugar for an entire piece. In addition to being lower in sugar, avocados are also surprisingly high in fiber, with around 7 grams of fiber per half of an avocado. Julie Pace, RDN from Core Nutrition Health & Wellness, says, “Adding avocados to meals can boost satiety, support weight management goals, nourish gut health, reduce risk for cardiovascular disease, and enhance diet quality.”7 Avocado makes a great salad topper, and we’re all familiar with avocado toast—but have you tried these Avocado Fries with Sriracha Aioli yet?
3. Raspberries
Natural Sugar: 5 Grams Per 1 Cup
Not only are juicy raspberries low in sugar, with just 5 grams of natural sugar per cup, but they are also low in calories and incredibly high in fiber. Just one cup provides 8 grams of fiber, which is over one-fourth of the 25-34 daily grams of fiber recommended for American adults.9 Keeping your freezer stocked with some frozen raspberries means you can blend up this Mango Raspberry Smoothie anytime.
4. Kiwis 🥝🥝🥝
Natural Sugar: 7 Grams Per Piece
“One small kiwi has just 6 grams of natural sugar, 2 grams of fiber and nearly 90% of your daily recommended value of vitamin C! They are also a rich source of carotenoids, a specific type of phytochemical, that has been shown to promote eye and skin health,” says Micko. These fuzzy little fruits also offer many other health benefits, from constipation relief to better sleep. Mango and pineapple aren’t the only fruits that can be used as a delicious taco topper; these Easy Fish Tacos with Kiwi Salsa are a delicious option for taco night.
5. Blackberries
Natural Sugar: 7 Grams Per 1 Cup
Although they have slightly more sugar than raspberries, blackberries are another great low-sugar fruit. “One cup of blackberries has just 7 grams of natural sugar and 8 grams of dietary fiber (that's a great bang for your buck). Blackberries are also a rich source of phytochemicals (plant compounds that fight disease), including those that have been shown to fight off illness, prevent chronic disease and improve memory,” says Micko.12 Level up your toast with this homemade Blackberry Jam with hints of lime and ginger. Blackberries are not just for sweet dishes either; try these Blackberry BBQ Pork Chops for dinner, and you’ll see.
6. Strawberries 🍓🍓🍓
Natural Sugar: 7 Grams Per 1 Cup Halved
Strawberries may be one of the most popular small fruits on the market. In addition to offering almost 100% of the daily value for vitamin C per serving, strawberries are also low in sugar, with just 7 grams per 1 cup of halved strawberries. The combination of fiber, antioxidants and potassium in strawberries also makes them a boon for your heart health.14 Sweet, juicy strawberries are a delicious addition to spring salads like this Strawberry-Balsamic Spinach Salad with Chicken.
7. Watermelon 🍉
Natural Sugar: 10 Grams Per 1 Cup
The lower sugar level of watermelon can be attributed in part to the high water content of this summer fruit. A 1-cup serving of watermelon has less than 10 grams of sugar and up to 5 ounces of water. Watermelon is also rich in lycopene, an oxidative stress-busting antioxidant that has been associated with a lower risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease.16 Sweet watermelon and creamy, tangy goat cheese are a magical duo in this Watermelon & Goat Cheese Salad with Citrus Vinaigrette.
8. Grapefruit
Natural Sugar: 11 Grams Per ½ Piece
You may be surprised that grapefruit, which is famously tart, is so high on the list. However, it is still considered a low-sugar fruit, with just ½ a grapefruit less than 11 grams of sugar. Grapefruit is rich in vitamins A and C, two top nutrients that help support your immune system. (Especially important during cold and flu season.) Want to try adding some grapefruit to your diet? This Fennel & Grapefruit Salad makes a simple and colorful side for chicken, fish, or pork.
9. Papaya!
Natural Sugar: 11 Grams Per 1 Cup Cubed
Papaya’s 11 grams of sugar per cup of cubed papaya is much lower than that of other popular tropical fruits like pineapple or mango. Additionally, papaya is high in folate—around 54 mcg per cup or about 14% of the recommended daily value for folate.19 While you can enjoy it alone, papaya is a great addition to fruit salad. This Coconut-Cream Fruit Salad topped with a zippy dressing made from lime and ginger will have you thinking about a tropical vacation.
10. Cantaloupe 🍈!
Natural Sugar: 13 Grams Per 1 Cup Cubed
Like watermelon, it also has a high water content, so snacking on this fruit can help you meet your hydration goals. Cantaloupe is also a great source of beta-carotene, the ‘provitamin’ that gets converted into vitamin A in the body to support vision and reproductive health.20 One cup of cantaloupe has nearly one-third of the daily value for vitamin A. Try adding cantaloupe to your next salad. This Cantaloupe, Arugula & Goat Cheese Salad pairs sweet cantaloupe with peppery arugula and crunchy pistachios for a simple but flavorful side salad.
11. Oranges 🍊🍊🍊!
Natural Sugar: 12 Grams Per Piece
Although orange juice is high in sugar, whole oranges made our list of lower-sugar fruits. That’s because you need around three oranges for one cup of fresh juice. A whole orange contains 12 grams of sugar and is a good source of fiber, offering 3 grams per fruit. In addition to vitamin C, oranges are also a good source of essential nutrients like potassium and folate. If you’re looking for a flavorful weeknight dinner, enjoy these Orange-Ginger Chicken Bowls. Or enjoy a bowl of this Orange Creamsicle Nice Cream for dessert.
12. Peaches 🍑🍑🍑!
Natural Sugar: 13 Grams Per Piece
Biting into a sun-ripened, juicy and sweet peach may be the best of summer’s simple pleasures. These fuzzy fruits have less than 13 grams of sugar per piece and other nutrients like fiber, potassium and vitamins A and C. Like many fruits, peaches offer soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber keeps cholesterol levels in check, while insoluble fiber aids digestion by preventing constipation—along with many other benefits from each. Maximize your fiber intake by eating the skin of the peach. Have leftover ricotta cheese? Try this 5-minute Pistachio & Peach Toast recipe, which pairs creamy ricotta with fresh sliced peaches and honey.
The Bottom Line
There are many benefits associated with monitoring your sugar intake, but cutting back on your sugar intake can be confusing. The best approach is to limit added sugars instead of focusing too much on naturally occurring ones found in foods like fruit. Foods with natural sugars are packaged with other beneficial nutrients like fiber and antioxidants. For those with certain health conditions like diabetes who must consider their overall sugar intake, this list can help you monitor your intake. In addition, “pairing any fruit with healthy fats, such as avocados, seeds, and nuts, is a great way to reduce the glycemic index of the fruit to promote blood sugar control,” says Barrera.

II. Mutually Assured Destruction
Their practice started with conditioning drills. It should've been easy and normal for Vanessa, even with the harsh amount of sets their coach made them do. But her mind wasn't really just in the right place, her focus on Beth a few feet beside her. Add to that, her lack of sleep. She didn't ignore the girl, no. But she did limit their conversation every time Beth initiates one.
Vanessa stopped looking at Beth when Colette finally spoke up, acknowledging that all of them aren't in their best condition. The alcohol they consumed last night are still in their system, the headaches being a harsh motherfucker.
"You all look ride hard and put up wet, like maybe you were up to no good last night."
Vanessa breathed in deeply as she tried steadying her heartbeat while doing tuck jumps. She stopped and put her hand over her mouth in reflex as she felt the bile going up her throat. She forced it down with a gulp, she can't vomit in front of everyone in the squad, especially Colette French.
Speaking of her, the woman gave a disappointed sigh and continues, "Okay, stop."
At her words, the girls all breathed a sigh of relief before sitting down the math and hunched over in exhaustion. Everyone breathing heavily after the grueling exercise they just went through.
"Go home. Sleep it off," instructed Colette, her gaze surveying the girls before settling on Addy and then to Beth. "You two, my office." she pointed to the two before heading out of the gym.
Vanessa stopped herself from asking Beth. If she did, then her effort all day will all be just for naught. Instead, she sat down the mat to rest and after a few seconds heard RiRi call out to her.
"Did you know what's up?" gesturing to the two girls as they disappeared behind the doors. The redhead shook her head, "I reckon that's one of their little secrets."
"It's shocking that you don't look alright, Ness." Brianna joins in their conversation. "You always seem to be fine even after a night of heavy drinking. But right now, you look damn exhausted like the rest of us."
"I just didn't get enough sleep, that's all." she replied before getting up and walking towards the doors. "Where you going?" RiRi asked worriedly as the girl in question waves her hand to bid goodbye. "I still have an internship I need to go to."
***
"Now you don't look to good." Klein remarked as soon as he sees Vanessa. "I'm fine, it's just a headache."
Klein stood up as he shakes his head, "Nope, it's obviously more than just a headache. Vanessa, go home."
"I can't. Klein, you know what's up. That house is nothing more but an empty home. I'm too tired to be in there, at least here I wouldn't be too bored."
He was hesitant and worried, but in the end, he couldn't help but let the girl stay. And so, stay she did. Vanessa silently read and checked the manuscripts she was given to copy edit. A hand on her shoulder interrupted her focus, then a familiar voice.
"Hey, you look beat Nessa."
The redhead tilted her head up to look at the owner of the voice, placing her hand on top of the girl's to give it a little squeeze as a greeting. "Isn't today one of your day offs?" Vanessa questioned.
"Well, I dropped in to give Dad a surprise coffee. A brief hi, wouldn't bother you, no?"
A shake of her head and a smile. "Of course not,"
"But now, I think my greeting's not going to be quick." Amelia Winters grabbed a near swivel chair and sat down. "Nessa, you do know you can take a leave if you weren't feeling well."
The redhead was about to respond but stopped after Amelia placed her finger on the girl's lips, silencing her. "No excuses. I'll tell Klein to put you off for today." she mutters before standing up.
"Lia, I was the one who insisted. I'm literally fine, I swear."
A roll of the eyes and a pout of the lips. Soon, the blonde sat back down. "Okay, why don't we do this. I'm going to help you finish all this. And as soon as we're done, you're mine for the rest of the day."
Vanessa forced a small smile at her, "As much as I want to, I can't do much after this Lia." with the latter shaking her head. "Who said we're going to do something? You, Miss Vanessa Carr is going to take a rest at my house. I can't have you driving home in that condition, no."
"I appreciate the-" Amelia quickly cuts her off, "It's a deal then," before grabbing one of the manuscripts out of the small pile with a smug face.
"Don't worry, I'll make sure you'll have good rest."
***
Beth's form was perfect. Anyone could see that she's the perfect for the role of a top girl. "Chest up. Eyes up. Everything tight." said Colette after the stunt.
"That's how it's done." Vanessa commented with a proud smile directed to Beth as Colette nods at the redhead's words. "It is," But even after acknowledging that Beth's excellent, the woman still ready to take the risk. By putting a freshman as the flyer for a basket toss
"And now, we will do it again...with Tacy."
"My god," Vanessa cursed under her breath as she rolls her eyes.
Her eyes then trailed as the girl looked at her friends with a smug look before walking towards the mat and stopping beside Beth. Still, no one made a move to get into position.
I mean did she really think they'll want to toss Tacy up? It's like choosing a dish cooked by an amateur over a dish that was cooked by a professional chef with just the same price.
"You heard me elevator her up." Colette instructed the girls.
This time, RiRi spoke up. "Why? If Beth's the better top girl, aren't we just wasting time?"
Colette let out a sigh. "Listen up all of you. Getting into regionals isn't about one girl. It's about one squad, regardless of who's on top."
"Coach is right," Surprise filled Vanessa when her ears heard Beth's words. "You remember what she said. Top girl is a girl that can control herself. And last Friday night, I didn't see a lot of self-control."
Vanessa recognized that something was up at her best friend's last sentence, feeding her curiosity. Obviously, it was a jab, one that is directed towards Coach.
Colette started to saunter around them, her eyes still on Beth the whole time. "Self-control's just the beginning. What we need to see is hard work, sacrifice, trust. If we can't count each other, we fail. If we can't trust, we lose."
"Trust can be misplaced, you know." Vanessa starts before shifting her gaze towards Tacy. "Once you've placed your trust on the wrong person, all that hard work, the sacrifice—you did for them,"
She paused as her eyes went back to Colette, "...would all just be wasted." before getting off the mat shortly after, leaving the air more tense than earlier.
Colette didn't retort back. She can't. Even she knows Vanessa got a point. She was forced to place her trust on the the two teens for them not to tell anyone about the affair. But the question is, can they really be trusted?
The woman sighs, forcing the thought away before instructing the girls again. "Now, let's go."
Beth walked off the mat with Addy following her soon after. "I didn't expect for you to come on hard, Nessa." Beth stood beside Vanessa, sporting a proud smile.
"Oh please, I'm just getting started."
Addy stared at the redhead for a few seconds, before looking back at coach with a worried gaze. It was then when Vanessa gave Addy the side eye, noticing the latter's peculiar reaction at her words.
***
Vanessa confidently walks through the hallways, a lollipop on her mouth, Beth in the middle of her and RiRi. The two best friends ignore the looks of admiration, lust and jealousy they were receiving from their fellow schoolmates, while RiRi was entertaining a few.
The redhead rolls her eyes at the sight of Jordy Jones, bringing his hand up before imitating a gun as it recoils after a shot, as his friend quickly reprimanded him.
"Best control your little friend, unless you want me to." said Beth as she glanced at the two boys, with the three stopping right in front of Addy.
Vanessa let go of Beth's hand as she leaned against the lockers beside Addy. She broke into a smirk before gesturing towards the side with her eyebrow, "Look who's here again,"
The three girls followed her gaze to see Will walking through the hallway, greeting a jock briefly. RiRi soon adds, "Sarge has never been here two weeks in a row before. He must love us." earning a light chuckle from the redhead.
"Cold." Beth remarked as the marine passed by the four girls, ignoring Vanessa's playful wink. "After everything we shared Friday night."
Vanessa pulled the lollipop out of her mouth, "I wonder if he's here for a tryst." as she turns to face the three. "What do you think?"
"That girl must be lucky," RiRi answers before sizing him up and down. "Sarge's one hell of a snack, honestly."
Beth gazed at Addy playfully, "You never know, it might be a woman." before looking back at Vanessa with a smile.
As if on cue, the bell rang. "Anyways, see you later at practice bitches." the redhead winked before turning around and walking away.
***
Vanessa had just landed on her feet when Colette walked inside the gym, "Alright everybody, huddle up."
The girls surrounded their coach as she brought her iPad out. The woman then played a video, showing it to the girls as they watched silent, assessing the bid video with their watchful eyes.
"Tight, clean, perfect. This is Jeff East, my last squad, the bid video that got them into regionals and then all the way to states." Colette explained to the girls when Beth spoke up, "Where they came in fifth," as she continued staring at her nails instead of watching the video.
Vanessa couldn't help but snicker at Beth's comment, before quickly forcing her expression back to seriousness. Beth glanced up for a second to see Colette clenching her jaw.
"They wanted it. They worked for it. It happened." her eyes looking around the girls as she locked the iPad continuing her words, "And it could be you...now that you've been invited to submit.
As soon as those words have been said, gasps of surprise and excitement broke the silence. Vanessa eagerly winked at Brianna standing next to her, who returned it with a smile.
"That's why for the next two weeks, everything that we do in practice is about our video. Forget football games. Forget sideline cheer. The video is the only one thing that matters. Okay, let's get started on that tumbling."
Vanessa was excited, the hunger to be noticed, the hunger to be acknowledge were back full force. She had quickly decided that she'll be calling Klein later to share the news and inform him that she's planning to stop going to the company for the time being.
She was stretching her body, preparing to do her role perfectly when she heard Coach call out to Addy to talk. The redhead glanced at Beth and Addy in curiosity, but in the end, she walked towards the girls lined up, ready to do the tumbles.
Later, after their practice had ended, the girls were back at the lockers. She immediately felt that there was a tension between Beth and Addy as soon as she got closer. "Did something happen?" she questioned with furrowed eyebrows.
"It's rare to see you two this...tense."
Addy looks up at Vanessa, "It's noth-" but before she can finish, Beth cuts in. "It's just about the video,"
The redhead picked on the fact that Addy froze. "The bid video we need to submit." she continues before standing up and grabbing the redhead's arm. "Accompany me in the showers?"
Vanessa smiles weakly before glancing behind to look at Addy, who in turn gave her a forced smile. In the end, she let herself be dragged away by the brunette, letting the doubts be sealed away. For now, of course.
Something was going on. With the two being called by Coach the day after Friday night, Beth's statement about self-control which was obviously directed at Coach, and lastly was Addy's conversation with Coach earlier in practice.
With how she reacted when Beth mentions a video, that must be it. But what video...?
***
"Are you sure you can't find it?" asked Vanessa as she came to a stop in front of RiRi, Beth, and Addy.
RiRi then looked at Beth, "You know, I bet it's in the Jeep. Once, I find mine melted to my dashboard. Looked like lava. Couldn't even tell it was a phone."
"Maybe." Beth replied before looking at Addy once again, "Or maybe it went missing before that,"
Vanessa was able to tell something was up. She can notice the stare Beth was giving Addy. "You think it went missing at practice?" she heard RiRi ask, getting her attention.
Beth shrugged before looking at Addy once again, "Yeah." Right then and there, an idea formed; Beth has a video in her phone that Addy was so obsessed with.
It's not much a bit of a stretch. Before Beth mentions a video when I asked, the air was already tense. And now apparently, Beth's phone is missing after their conversation at the lockers.
Vanessa watch as Addy opens her mouth, "Here's an idea—buy a new one."
Beth and Addy arrived at the same answer to Addy's suggestion. The redhead starts, giving a glance to Beth, "Buy a new one,"
"…terrorists win." the brunette ended as they both look back at Addy. "Besides, I think I'm gonna get that phone back,"
RiRi broke the silence with a question, "So, you're gonna live without a phone?" as Beth gave her a smile, "No. You are." grabbing the girl's phone away from her hands and then proceeding to reach out to Vanessa's arm. "Let's go, we'll be late for class."
Vanessa let herself be dragged away by Beth and when she was sure there are out of earshot, the redhead asks, "Care to tell me what's really happening?"
"Nothing's happening."
Vanessa let out a sigh as she halted in her steps, "I've known you since we were kids, Beth. I've watched you two closely for years. Believe me when I say I can notice it. And I do,"
"So tell me, did something happened after that party at Lanvers?"
Beth stared at her for a few seconds, silent. This disappointed Vanessa, greatly. "Then I guess you don't trust me enough," she muttered, shaking her head as she pulled her arm away from Beth's hand.
"Nessa." Beth called out but the girl ignored her and continued walking, disappearing as she turns to the corner.
***
Vanessa gave Beth the cold shoulder the rest of the day. She even turned down RiRi's offer to have fun after school as she knows Beth will be there. Beth needed to know that this time, she's not going to talk to her unless she'd finally trust the girl. Enough to let her in on their little secret.
As usual, she'd arrived at the quiet home. Grabbing a protein bar and a bottle of water from the kitchen, she went up to her bedroom and got change into a gym outfit. She started off her exercise with yoga, and then moved to sets of dumbbell rows. And finally doing a heavy bag training session, to let out all of her anger and disappointment inside.
As soon as the girl got out of the showers, her phone started ringing. Vanessa stared at the caller's name for a second, before hesitantly grabbing the phone to answer the call.
"Beth, look-"
"Where are you Nessa? You're missing out on all of the fun we're having!"
She can hear the music and a few voices on the background. She pressed the speaker button, as she moved to grab an outfit to wear. "Uhuh, well is Addy there right now?"
"Dairy Cream." she answered with a laugh. Not directed to her but to someone who's physically with Beth. Something Vanessa was able to work out because of a male's voice in the background.
"Please tell me you're with the boys from school. And not just with some random men."
"I'm not going to tell you, Carr. If you want to know, then come to my house. Maybe, I'll finally let a few secrets out." without giving Vanessa anytime to say something, Beth ended the swift call.
A frustrated sigh came from the redhead as she had finished tying her hair up into a ponytail. Amelia called her earlier when she was busy doing her workout. The two decided to meet and Vanessa was already dressing up to go. But now, it looks like she's going to have to choose.
She grabbed a black windbreaker from her closet before rushing downstairs and out of the house. After closing the door of the car, she decided to call Amelia to inform that something important came up. The blonde was disappointed, and a bit upset, of course. But Vanessa was able to convince the girl with a deal.
Parking her car at the side of the road, the redhead stepped out and made her way towards the front door. Knowing Beth, she's the type to let the front door unlocked after giving an invite. Without hesitation, Vanessa let herself in. Making her way towards the direction of the stairs leading towards the house's basement.
The girl couldn't help but roll her eyes when she saw familiar faces. The men with her friends are the marines recruiting at their school. She forced a smile when RiRi and her made eye contact as the latter danced with a man.
Her eyes settled on the sight of Beth dancing on top of the counter. With a sigh, she made her way towards her direction, glancing at the man staring at her friend as she danced seductively. She watched as Beth's expression change from alluring into one of excitement, before jumping off the counter to meet her.
"I've been waiting for you Nessa." Beth greeted as she grabbed both of Vanessa's hand, before pulling her to the counter. "That was fast. Were you getting ready before I called?" she asked, giving the girl a bottle of beer.
"I was. But not for this party, a friend called me earlier than you did, we were supposed to hang out." She revealed taking a swig of the alcohol right after.
Her words earned a frown from the Brunette as she suddenly grabbed the alcohol from Vanessa. "You picked someone over us?" she asked, her voice sounding a bit upset at the idea that the redhead is capable of doing something like that.
Vanessa couldn't help but look at her incredulously. "I was upset, Beth, if you still hadn't noticed." She retorts with a shake of her head. "And now, you've just made me realize I made the wrong choice."
She was about to turn and leave when the brunette grabbed her wrist tightly. "Hey, I'm sorry. It's the alcohol talking. Let's just have a bit of a fun before I answer your question, okay?"
The redhead let out a sigh before leaning back at the counter and grabbing the beer to drink. Beth smiled before seeing Kurtz staring at them. Beth winked at him, earning a smile from the man.
Vanessa's eyes followed the direction Beth was looking and saw the same man who was staring at Beth as she was dancing earlier. She looked back at Beth and asks, "Who's he? It's rare to see a new face here."
Beth answers, "Corporal Kurtz, another soldier boy." her eyes lingering at the man for a few more seconds, before seeing Vanessa was assessing him. She grabbed the redhead's chin and leaned in for a kiss.
Vanessa was surprised for a moment but was able to recover and kiss back the girl with the same fervor. Beth pushed Vanessa against the counter, her hands at the side of Vanessa's face, enjoying the intimacy. Unbeknownst to the brunette, Vanessa was still looking straight at Kurtz while kissing Beth.
After a few more seconds, Vanessa pulled away with a chuckle. "Someone's getting a hard on, Beth." she whispers to Beth before gesturing to Kurtz with her eyes.
Beth glances and sees the man looking dazed, earning a laugh from her as Vanessa walks towards the fridge. She pulled a bottle of alcohol, raising it up to Beth with a wink. The two teens then proceeded to spend the night having fun with the company of marines.
When the party ended, Beth asked Vanessa to spend the night with her as RiRi was driven home by one of the soldiers. The two laid down Beth's bed with a chuckle as Vanessa sat up seconds after. "Now, I believe you owe me a secret, Cassidy."
"I was hoping for you to forget," Beth say as she stood up and grabbed her laptop sitting on top of the table. "Vanessa Carr never forgets, remember?" remarked the redhead as she watched the brunette sat back down the bed.
"So, my phone's missing, right?" Beth starts as the MacBook booted up. "It's not really missing since you know who has it," Vanessa answered with a smirk.
Beth shook her head as a light chuckle came out. "Even with the amount of detective crime book you have; I still can't believe how much of a detective you are."
"Well, after that chaotic night at Lanvers, Addy and I went back to search for my phone. And that was when we caught a sight of this," Beth clicked on a video file before showing it to Vanessa with a cunning smile.
As the video zoomed in, she watched as Vanessa's eyes widened at the sight of their Coach doing it with Sarge Will inside his truck. "Coach Colette French fucking Soldier Boy, can you believe it?" Beth stated with a laugh.
A knowing smile tugged the corner of the redhead's lips as she glances at Beth. "I guess this was the self-control you were talking about that time." Beth hums in affirmation. "And I'm guessing this is not the only time, they've done this."
"When I said that he's probably having a tryst in school, I honestly did not expect it to be Coach. So, this is why Addy's so hell bent in getting a hold of your phone?"
"I told her I deleted the video, and she believes otherwise. She's probably trying to search every nook and cranny of my phone." Beth closed the laptop before placing it back on the table again, adding, "Unfortunately for her, she can't delete it unless she can have access to my laptop."
"Honestly though, why is Addy siding with her? I mean, just what pushed her to be as desperate as stealing your phone just to delete that video?" Vanessa asks Beth as the girl slowly walked to her.
Beth placed both of her hands on top of Vanessa's shoulder, pushing her down the bed. "Even I don't know." she answers, before getting on top of Vanessa seductively. With a sultry smile, Beth went down and kissed the redhead.
To be continued...
