the seat that we just spent the last month+ travelling 2 hours every night to canvas and build for came down to 35 votes last night and was finally called for a recount at 1am which is starting in a couple hours and jfc ranked choice voting is fantastic, but my god the drama
#at one point after surplus redistribution there was only one vote difference like HELLO#anyway the fact that we got this far in a constituency that was redrawn last year to include two more rural areas?#no one expected it so like credit to the work cdes have done in actually talking to people and agitating for fighting movements#like we're fighting it out against a local from one of the newly co-opted areas#so the fact that that area didn't just default fall in line is a massive testament to our political program#i would have gone down to the count if I could have - this shit is bananas#anyway i'm going back to the us for christmas in a few days and my goose is cooked i'm just gonna be comatose the entire time

you can tell things are bad because i've started doing modern au stuff again. anyway i think froi's the kind of teenager who actually irons his uniform. like he wears those grey trousers and those things are pressed. his shirts too
#yr 12 jersey no blazer ever. none of the relevant high school age characters wear them except grijio & florenza who are both the type of#guy to wear their blazer with like eight badges. school captain chic. phaedra switches to pants in winter because it's cold & it's practica#& quintana wears the same non-uniform jacket/hoodie every day. non-conformist queen#as a general rule i find the actual high school part of modern aus pretty whatever. but i like thinking about how they wear uniforms. mostl#because it lets me think about how they present themselves while also giving me a base to work off of. which is good because fashion is not#an area i know anything about lol (outside of what i personally go in for)#(re froi i think he picked it up from august aged like 15 & now he can't stop even when q&co. are like ??? lol.)

#finished day four of a seven day straight stint at work#and I am so fucking exhausted already#on top of being the one responsible for most of our cats#I've also been charged with caring for two puppies who have been fighting parvovirus#and an eight-month old juvenile dog with a bullet fragment in his spine who may never regain the use of his back legs#and my supervisor as well as one of my co-workers who I'd normally be able to split some of this work with will be off#which is only going to leave me and another co-worker covering cats as well as the three dogs we've been assigned to#and this co-worker flat refuses to work with dogs at all and will only work one area of cats#he won't even handle giving out any medications or anything#which means I'll be doing the majority of the work in cats#my one saving grace is that I can get someone from dogs to help me with the dog with the bullet in his spine if need be#since once I've had contact with the puppies that have parvo I won't be allowed contact with any other dog there#I have some PTO time#I'm seriously thinking about taking some of it

#saskia plays starfield#i had a lot of fun last night tbh#i started the uc questline and i was pleasantly surprised how the quests where written tbh#i had a lot of personal conversations with my companions which i loved! her background and some perk she has coming up during dialogue#i did the mantis quest which was awesome#just! yesterday was great#but today. god so many instances where i was just dissociating through them loading screens again#counting damn sheep until my protag finally managed to walk 8787m through an empty planet to reach some quest area.....#it feels like im doing work sometimes which is not good#just. there is so much where im like ''god i cant wait until there is a mod for that'' dunno man. rather would have bugs rn than that#the beginning is so slow and then it becomes good. just to be constantly disrupted by its flaws#and dont get me started how unfortunate it is that new atlantis is the central hub and first impression the player gets of the game#the blandest city i have encountered yet#there are just. a couple things where i just dont understand what toddy and co. where thinking#actually i do understand but i wish it was different. oh well#sorry about the rant if anyone is reading this lmaooooo#i just hope tomorrow will be a good starfield day again. i paid enough money for this damn game#just imagine how this game could be if it where all on one map like bethy games usually are. i cannot imagine i would rant about it

#REEEE they were part of why i didn't leave for so long even though i was burnt out#not only because i wanted to help out#but because my old school had some of THE COOLEST and best teachers you could ever ask to work with#teaching tag#just a shame that even the most well-meaning admin were pushing for results all the time#it was all about constant improvement in the face of behaviour that was difficult to deal with#and an admin that wanted to crack down on these kids in what i could only conceive of as fascist i'm ngl!!!#when they did the uniform crackdown i think was when i kinda. disconnected the most from my work there#because that was something that i did not care about#and i got results even with kids who didn't have the most correct and perfect uniform#because we were teaching in a low SES area#idk man idk#i still miss my co-workers tho some of them were really really cool

This is my opinion, but I don't think it's a good idea to explain self harm scars to kids with anything except something like "they're from some old injuries".
(Im talking about scars which by their very nature are healed and therefore "old" compared to fresh wounds. Personally, i think its your responsibility to cover up fresh self harm if you're around other people, especially children. Not because of shame (though usually most of us cover up anyway because of that) but because it has the potential to cause harm to others.
Kids shouldn't be told that you injured yourself on purpose, and that the scars are from doing so. It just puts the idea in their head that that's something you *can* do.
Im not saying that conversations around self harm should never be had with children. I just dont think its a good idea to bring it up unless they've already thought about it themselves. Self harming is unfortunately socially contagious. I dont want to be the person that plants that idea in their head.
My scars are something that I can't hide, and i dont want to hide them because im not ashamed. Moreover, its also not feasible. Its not practical to wear long pants and sleeves in hot weather, or other such conditions (like swimming, or simple shit like rolling up your sleeves to wash dishes). Skin will be shown, and it can take a long time to get over the shame of self harm and feel comfortable exposing scars. Sometimes they're faint and not easily seen, but sometimes they can be discoloured or very noticeable. I don't think someone should have to hide, but that means that sometimes uncomfortable discussions will happen. Kids are curious, and they will ask questions. They're usually satisfied with simple answers. There's no need to tell them that your scars are from hurting yourself on purpose.
If they ask you something along the lines of, "did you get those from hurting yourself", then yeah, obviously, be honest but keep it age appropriate. But if they just ask "how did you get those?", then its really not necessary to open that whole can of worms.
#my credentials: i have younger family who were curious and asked me. i also understand how social contagion works.#i never would have self harmed with the *specific* method i used had i not been given that idea from someone bluntly describing it#“theyre from a long time ago” or “they're old injuries” or “i got hurt when i was younger” are all good answers and usually work quite well#if you get the “how you get hurt?” you can answer with shit like “i just did” or make it a joke like#“thats what happens when you run with scissors” or “dont play with wild animals” and give them a tickle or a laugh#but answering with an explanation of self harm is unnecessary and potentially harmful imo#like most people i know who self harm(ed) can think of quick smart ass shit to say when obtrusive adults ask#but its a grey area when it comes to kids. cos you dont want to lie to them or stigmatise scars#tw self harm

becoming a data hoarder of crochet/knitting/sewing/embroidery patterns and books on my pc, laptop and phone. an ungodly amount fr.
#also finding good patterns for like 2 dollars at thrift stores and getting books out from the library has been VERY helpful#and so many have maker spaces#where you can sew/weave/embroider/whatever#the one at my local library is mega cool#cos the council realized the suburb next to mine (mine is too small to have a village center like the others so theirs is ours)#had been promised a new mall makeover and a new pool and a new bunch of stuff#and hadnt been given anything in like. decades.#and is also a suburb where a lot of working class and low income families live#so they went ''okay we should. do something and actually support this section''#and thats how we got our new million dollar suburb center building with a new library/cafe/preschool/pool/maker space#and suddenly people have a reason to stay in the area and spend more time at shops and have a study space#available right next to a park and a place for community and information!!!#and everyone is happier and spending more money at the surrounding shops because theyre visiting more often#like that whole project took 2 years but it was so worth it the maker space rules its got a recording booth and a 3dprintet and an engraver#a loom and all these other woodcraft/textile stuff#and i see teenagers from the 3 surrounding schools coming in to record music and/or rent out instruments!#and do carving and sewing and book clubs!!#and have a place to study!#when i was in hs we would walk down to the mall get sushi and sit in a field bcos there was nothing to do#now people from the same high school i have can access all this stuff!#and more online to print out#and partake in healthy hobbies and its like fuck!!! it makes me so happy!!!#all this to say if anyone wants a pattern for smth i can probs find a free one/one costing a few dollars by an indie creator

'gonna k myself. bye.' and immediately fuck off to bed or work#and okay. on one hand. billy knows he's not gods gift to this earth. his dads been telling him that his entire life#but. on the other hand. the only way he's made it this far in life is by making himself god's gift to this earth#so. it's rly hard to not be a cocky little shit at the start of his career#which unfortunately leads to small fuck ups. which leads to big fuck ups.#fuck ups he wont forget and carries with him every day#but once he finds his feet. finds his place. boy oh BOY he was made to work in this field#max didnt follow him on purpose. she rocked up on his door step the second she graduated. if that.#and billy more or less just said. im broke as shit and in so much debt i cant even buy myself a chocolate bar. take the couch#if ur staying longer than a week i want fuckin rent#except his version of rent is max pitching in for dinner and chores and groceries etc and if shes gotsome money to contribute thats cool to#but he's not about to like. kick her out#anyway. one night they're somehow magically all off and free for the first time in months. so they're having a few drinks#and heather's bitching about her job and billy's one upping her with every story#and max is like. bro it probably isn't even that hard. and billy's like. i Dare you.#(they're drunk. billy hasn't even had time to think about alcohol in Months and now he's a lightweight and he's Drunk)#and max. becos she's max. and she's never /not/ ready to prove billy wrong. decides to actually go for it#not like she's got much to lose. except money maybe also free time also mental brain capacity and the will to actually wanna live#but. like. nothing to lose! so she's opening google the next day and figuring out where to start. and before she knows it#she's there baby! she's living medical school hell! it sucks ASS. somehow she doesn't give up!#flash forward like 10 yrs and billy likes to brag that his life's so good that max had to copy him.#ran to california. works in a hospital. daddy issues. etc etc.

#sometimes i feel like. yeah man barely exist most ppl don't notice or care about me and it's fine#yesterday a new manager came for me for some inconceivable reason bc man had said lile one word to me and then declared me lazy#started talking to other ppl about how i dont do.anything and Quote stand behind till bank looking at one otem for two hours unquote which#i don't even need to begin saying what bullshit that is#found out he said as such bc abother co-worker im buddies with overheard and told me bc he felt violated on my behalf#we both proceeded to tell like half the floors worth of staff bc of the out rage#i may have said many swear words very loud and scared a customer before coworker cartwd me.to the staff only area to calm down#but like. every other staff that found put either came to me to ask Wtf or said to me bro u do more work than almost eveyone on this floor#combined what the hell is that man on#anyway. the coup has begun#we've already collectively chased out two shit managers and man doesnt know we'll do it again lol#feels nice hearing ppl say he has to gtfo bc he disrespected me specifically lmao
