FOLKSSS I MADE ITTT
This is my sideblog, my main is @everyday-is-brighter-with-you
Let me know what you think please!! The credits for the artists and game shown in the video are below in the Youtube description.
I could not use every single art I asked permission for, but I managed to use atleast one piece from every artist asked. I decided to switch from nightcore to the original length song to allow better appreciation of the art, over a longer length.
Also, you might notice some lyrics are altered in a plausible way, it's intentional.
Tagging people who asked to be shown the video or expressed strong interest!:

Best of 2023 - Albums
Unbelievable year ... Fallen pop stars are returning, long time not seen artists are turning up in a best possible shape, producers making music under their own names, ... First of all I really enjoyed a few soundtracks this year especially Anthony Willis's Saltburn and Arnaud Rebotini's L'lle Rouge. Surprisingly I listened again on repeat a few DJ mixes too. Danny Tenaglia's new Global Underground was a pure treasure, James Zabiela's home session just made me dance for an hour in the living room, as well as Andy Butler's energetic set did too.
Tumblr media
01. Roisin Murphy - Hit Parade - "If Hit Parade isn’t Murphy’s best album, it’s certainly her wildest and weirdest. Nowhere else is the scale of her ambition more evident than on the percussive and atmospheric “Free Will.” Murphy says she doesn’t believe in free will but that you should “just make believe that you can write the play” anyway. It’s yet another indelible statement that couldn’t come from anyone else." - Slant Magazine
02. Rebecca Black - Let Her Burn - "An acceptable stretch of Let Her Burn gives Black a chance to reform a persona she had never had any control over until now. As fundamental a shift as perhaps expected, Black warrants this change of pace but there is something inevitable about how these perspectives are formed and how retaliation to reactionary dogpiling a decade ago comes to the forefront. Working hard and pushing through with this half-hour debut LP is exceptional, with spotty highs and consistently solid mixes that give those electronic undercurrents a beat-worthy working. Destroy Me is a crucial highlight in getting to the core of reinvention but also in engaging with how buoyed Let Her Burn is by how much of an opposition it takes to the early works. Black has let her burn, whatever “her” was. Let Her Burn razes and destroys as much as it can, and it works as a successful, credible debut." - Cult Following
03. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Hana
04. Clark - Sus Dog
05. Everything But The Girl - Fuse
06. Depeche Mode - Memento Mori
07. Mermaidens - Mermaidens
Tumblr media
08. Kesha - Gag Order
09. Anna B Savage - in|FLUX - "So as a follow up to A Common Turn, this does feel like an album where, lyrically and thematically, we are dealing with an artist who has battled some of the previous demons, accepted the daily flux of life, and found a way to focus on the moments when life feels most complete. But in a musical context – Anna also seems to have taken that feeling, that love of contradiction, into the songs. At moments explosively ecstatic, at others wrought with emotion – and filled with influences and sounds from areas not explored on the previous LP – the album brings a bunch of disparate sounds and feelings together to create a powerful and impressive whole. Most impressive of all is the fact that, after an album that sent Picky Bastards into a spin for the whole of 2021, Anna has released something as good if not better." - Picky Bastards
10. HMLTD - The Worm
11. JMSN - Soft Spot
12. Orbital - Optical Delusion - "It’s an album of unlikely collaborations. Day One features the operatic talents of Dina Ipavic, while Are You Alive, sung by Lily Wolter of Penelope Isles, floats into moodier, more analog territory. Best of all are The New Abnormal (Golden Girls’ Kinetic turned inside out) and the anti-gammon state of the nation rant of Dirty Rats." - Record Collector
13. Spelling - SPELLLING & The Mystery School
14. Future Utopia - We Were We Still Are
15. CLT DRP - Nothing Clever, Just Feelings
16. Joy Wellboy - The Ones That Got Away
17. Pierre Rousseau - Twenty - Music for Etudes N°20 - Spring Summer 2022
18. Joyce Muniz - Zeitkapsel
Tumblr media
19. Emiliana Torrini & The Colorist Orchestra - Racing The Storm
20. Thomas Azier - The Inventory Of Our Desire
21. Sofia Kourtesis - Madres
22. Not Waving - The Place I've Been Missing
23. Restive Plaggona - Ignis
24. Deichkind - Neues Vom Dauerzustand
25. Daughter - Stereo Mind Game
26. Daði Freyr - I Made an Album
27. Yves Tumor - Praise A Lord Who Chews But Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds)
28. Surgeon - Crash Recoil - "Crash Recoil is probably about as close to a live Surgeon record as we’re ever going to get. Child views producing and performing as two disparate disciplines, which they are, and he goes about each in a very different way. This also means it’s about as close to a traditional pop/rock approach to writing and recording as you’re likely to find from an electronic producer, woodshedding tracks on the road and sharpening them to a diamond sheen. More bands and producers should think of adopting the approach as it clearly can yield stunning results, as evidenced by this glorious offering." - Spectrum Culture
29. Duran Duran - DANSE MACABRE
30. When Saints Go Machine - Rosy
31. Young Fathers - Heavy Heavy
32. Maps - Counter Melodies
33. Laurent Garnier - 33 tours et puis s'en vont
34. Benedikt Frey - Fastlane
Tumblr media
35. ANOUK - Deena and Jim
36. Anthony Naples - Orbs - "The New York producer once known for muscular house and techno continues to drift into the ether, channeling ’90s chillout and dub techno into his singular vision." - Pitchfork
37. James Holden - Imagine This Is A High Dimensional Space Of All Possibilities
38. Hifi Sean & David McAlmont - Happy Ending
39. Tirzah - trip9love...???

Slung presents: Laughter
Power and impactfull song
Tumblr media
A tight-knit crew of the formerly gifted and talented, Slung was forged to deliver blistering riffs, sinister drum patterns and sickly sweet vocals, all wrapped up in a tasty tortellini of 90's slacker rock nostalgia.
Slung are excited to announce their debut album ‘In Ways’ will be released via Fat Dracula on 2nd May. They’ve also announced a tour to celebrate the full length, and revealed its first single, the trauma-fueled, ribcage-rattling ‘Laughter’.
Vocalist Katie Oldham says “This song is about a face-off that’s been a long time coming, and the difficult relationships we can have with members of our family, especially our parents. When we’re children we’re so desperate for our parents' attention and approval that their dismissal or rejection can feel agonising. With an emotionally absent parent, trying desperately to earn love or consideration from someone who isn’t capable of giving it can be so destructive. This hurt can often develop into resentment as we age and we may even later villainise this person, wanting to fight, confront, defeat them.”

Slung announce debut album ‘In Ways’ will be released 2nd May 2025 via Fat Dracula
pre-order:
With a debut duo of singles at the tail end of 2024, Slung’s sounds piqued interest among discerning ears across the industry and internet. They’ve also been working hard in the real, physical world, earning a legion of fans the old fashioned way, by hitting the road hard before they’d even released a note of music. They’ll continue this with a tour to celebrate the album’s release this spring. Details below.
Slung’s debut album is a collaborative combustion of its members’ experiences, circumstances and supreme musicianship. Their sonic universe - comprising the power of guitarist Ali Johnson’s incendiary riffs, vocalist Katie Oldham’s enviable dynamic and tonal range, bassist Vlad Matveikov’s undulating, yet grounding basslines and drummer Ravi Martin’s expert rhythmic punctuation - is a veritable musical supernova. Influences within the Slung camp are far reaching, with the band’s members referencing artists from Deftones and Baroness, to Wednesday and MJ Lenderman, to Queens of the Stone Age and even a sprinkling of Chappell Roan and Fleetwood Mac.
Initially the brainchild of Vlad, whilst he was living in Brighton, Slung were some time in the making. He tells of randomly meeting Ali at a campground in Australia in 2009, falling in love with Katie during lockdown and hearing a demo of drummer Ravi Martin’s old band in his other role running indie label Small Pond. The kernel of an idea for Slung began to germinate when Vlad’s previous band InTechnicolour disbanded, as he began to formulate new musical ideas, not knowing where they would lead him.
Vlad started out by working with like-minded vocalists such as Ash Tubb (Sugar Horse), Zac Jackson (El Moono), Lucy Sheehan (Projector), Annie Dorret (CLT DRP) and Micahel Barton (Sick Joy). Bringing Katie on board as vocalist was its own journey. “First thing you need to know is that Vlad is an absolute machine,” she states, matter-of-factly. “He has creativity, passion and drive like nothing else, and an ability to ‘get shit done’ that is second to none. He approached me about two years ago with these demos to see if I wanted to work with him as a vocalist, and maybe try turning them into a band. I *totally* bitched out,” she admits, laughing. “My previous band (Sit Down) had only very recently fallen apart and my confidence was in the gutter - I just didn’t feel ready. But immediately from working with him (on just one track to begin with), I felt incredibly reassured and encouraged by him, and it was such a different songwriting experience than I’d had before. After about a year of convincing and with Vlad having successfully recruited Ali and Ravi, I finally took the plunge and joined.” Having found a musical home that really fits, she now remarks poignantly to the rest of the group and their journey together: “I can’t remember when you all became main characters in my life”.
Katie’s storytelling and the compelling way she brings together personal, lived experience with more abstract, conceptual ideas and characters is evident throughout ‘In Ways’. Her inspirations range from sex workers and the power dynamics that come along with that profession (‘Class A Cherry’) to the tragic occurrences of bull fights in Spain (‘Matador’). ‘In Ways’ also contains some of the contributions from the band’s former collaborators along the way. The melodies for ‘Collider’ were largely conceived by El Moono’s Zac Jackson, which Katie adapted to fit a new lyrical narrative of a cult who are ruled by a deity they refer to as the ‘ritual prophet’ whom they converse with through the use of psychedelics. ‘Limassol’ started life with Mykl Barton from Sick Joy while Projector’s Lucy Sheehan worked the initial stages of ‘Come Apart’, a track which sounds like it could be the opening theme for a cult TV series like Breaking Bad or True Detective. The lyrics and melodies of ‘Heavy Duty’ are the result of creativity from both Katie and CLT DRP’s Annie Dorett. It’s an impactful song about generational trauma, the pain of growing up as a young girl and realising you’re being cultivated into a product the world wants to consume. “Men teach you to be quiet and obey from a young age,” explains Katie. “And so often we are raised to be as pretty and helpful as possible to serve men, to be their glamorous trophy, or servant to their every whim. I was exposed to a lot of this ideology as a kid, a lot by how my Father viewed women, and it’s taken me years to deprogram from it. Sometimes I still hear his voice coming out of mine when I react to things, the imprint of his temper flaring up in me.”
Katie communicates that one of her personal missions for the band relates to representation, inclusion, sisterhood and women being a more dominant force in music, whether that’s on stage, behind the scenes or in the crowd. She says “My love for women knows no bounds. Everything I do, I do for the girlies, the women and the female gaze exclusively. (This extends of course to ALL women inclusively, no TERF bullshit here.) There is just an unparalleled magical feeling when you’re around liberated, electrifying women who speak with honesty and clarity and without fear. The world is built to try and make us resent, envy and destroy each other, and I LOVE those moments where we realise we are more alike than what divides us. I want to be around women all the time, to be inspired by them, to connect with them and to share and to bond and unite.”

Here are a few of the custom stickers I've made for VisArt Video, a local (Charlotte) old-school movie rental store. They were one of the first places in Charlotte to give me a chance and showcase my artwork so I'm always happy to create some merch for them!

External Visit to Tate Liverpool + RIBA North
The 21st of March 2024 was my first-time seeing Tate Liverpool’s temporary relocation to RIBA North. This is whilst Tate Liverpool’s home at the Royal Albert Docks is redeveloped. From the moment stepping foot inside the building, it felt a lot more commercialised compared to say The Royal Standard, which felt more open and less formal and gave off a much more relaxed environment. The reason that the space at RIBA North made me feel this way could be down to being hit with the official gift shop for Tate the moment you step foot through the doors. The merchandise for other well-established artists, such as the British visual artist David Shrigley was right in my face. (See Fig 6.) This could be seen as a great marketing strategy by Tate Liverpool + RIBA North but for me it was overwhelming. It is my understanding that gift shops and cafes are there to help financially and to help boost tourism but seeing lots of gifts and merchandise before reaching any of the works on display makes me personally feel lost. When mentioning the word lost. This is my feeling of being disconnected from the reason for the visit to see the art. Others will feel different when visiting and seeing the setup of the giftshop and café, but this was my personal observation regarding the space on entrance.
Tumblr media
Figure 6. Photograph taken by me of the Tate Liverpool + RIBA North Gift shop.
The upstairs exhibition space was taken over by the installation You get a car [everybody gets a car]: RESOLVE Collective. RESOLVE Collective is an interdisciplinary design collective that combines architecture, engineering, technology and art to address social challenges. The idea of using the space to display the work of many different communities was impressive. Community participation really does interest me especially social art projects. The exhibition You Get A Car [Everybody Gets A Car] is an installation that involved a collective of community groups. Some Examples of the community groups involved include Sefton Libraries, Kitty’s Laundrette and Rule of Threes Arts to just name a few. A collection of the community groups had their own space within the installation which seemed a fantastic way to be informative to the audience on what each community group is about. (See Fig 7.) This shows material embroidered with the wording for the community group Kitty’s Laundrette. Kitty’s Laundrette are a  community laundrette and social space. The fact that the group is run by local residents is a fitting example of community involvement.
Tumblr media
Figure 7. Photograph taken by me of Kitty's Laundrette community group handcrafted community project.
At first you may see the space being used by the community groups and think is this really art? Or is it just community items placed around an exhibition space. This is what my initial thoughts were, but later after hearing Christine Eyene one of the curators for Tate Liverpool + RIBA North talk about the community involvement with curating of the exhibition it made my views change to see that this exhibition is actually contemporary art and not just old belongings of Tate Liverpool. The fact that Kitty’s Laundrette have worked together with Homebaked CLT to put on a fair to offer the local community a chance to find items to re-love. This to me is indicating that Kitty’s laundrette is helping to think long term of the environment by being more sustainable by repurposing existing items and making the community connection by putting on the fair.
An arts community group Rule of Threes are mentioned further on within the blog also contributed towards the exhibition. This to me indicates that Rule of Threes are expanding their reach by assisting with exhibitions in commercial exhibition spaces not just their own community spaces running their own specific projects.
Tumblr media
Figure 8. Photograph taken by me of a re-purposed Tate Liverpool Locker.
Another example, (See Fig 8) of another community group using some of the old Tate Liverpool’s lockers and cabinets to re-purpose them with stickers was an interesting display. It does push the boundaries on what exactly art is. Is this art? Well for me it was interesting to see current political topics on these old cabinets and lockers. For me this worked well as the lockers stood out with being plastered in political messages that the community feel strong about communicating within this exhibition.
One other space that looked out of place within the exhibition was the workspace. (See Fig 9.) For me, it looked too formal similar to like a board meeting setting but within a gallery space. It could be seen as quite an intimidating setting to work with all eyes on you in the middle of the exhibition. It for me feels like the workspace is out of place and should not be in the main exhibition space of the exhibition. This is another negative on the layout that for me did not work well overall.

Hypha Studios (HS) x Creative Land Trust (CLT) have joined forces to present a new exhibition, as part of Frieze 2023, spotlighting the work of 32 exceptional artists that we have supported in the last year. In a city pulsating with creative energy, MELT shines a spotlight on the source of London's artistic vibrancy.
The exhibition's title, MELT, pays homage to the legendary FRIEZE exhibition curated by Damien Hirst in 1988 - a pivotal moment that echoes the current climate of creative evolution. Just as the Young British Artists emerged from that time, MELT raises poignant questions about the future of contemporary artists amid the wealth of unclaimed spaces. Creative Land Trust and Hypha Studios are aligned in their mission and provoke audiences to think about who and what will flourish when artists are afforded the space they deserve.
