Even after learning their secret identities, the hero community always insisted that there was something inhuman about the bats. No one doubted that their intensive training had a lot to do with it, but it never quite explained how they could evade a Kryptonian's super senses, how they could melt into shadows, how they could function so long with little food, little rest, little oxygen if need be. Most people dismissed their uneasy feelings, but there was something strange about the bats, something uncanny, something that made them different from the arrows and other vanilla human members. And, slowly enough that no one really noticed, it was getting stronger.

Until one day, during a diplomatic meeting with the ruler of the Infinite Realms, when High King Phantom turned to Batman and his brood and literally brightened. "Oh! I didn't know you had liminal members!"

Or: through a variety of factors (proximity to death, their own death/near death experiences, exposure to the Lazarus Pits, the favor of Lady Gotham, immersion in Gotham's own cursed ambient ectoplasm, being a close knit group who continued to expose eachother, etc.) the batfamily have been becoming liminal/ecto-contaminated without noticing. The powers they're developing have been subtle, and align with the skills they expect to have, so no one brought it up when they started being able to hold their breath beyond human limitations, or got so sneaky that they literally seemed invisible, or had a lucky miss when they expected a bullet to go right through them. And they always exuded an unsettling aura of fear, so no one else thought anything was out of the ordinary either. By the time they meet Danny, Gotham counts as one of the most fiercely defended ghost haunts on the planet, with so many territorial liminals patrolling the streets.

MXTX protagonists ranked by how bad their mommy/daddy issues are

Luo Binghe: absolutely nuclear level of mommy/daddy issues. this is the consequence of giving your protagonist two deadbeat dads and two dead moms, and then letting him project all those issues onto his overly indulgent teacher

Wei Wuxian: he could've had perfectly normal orphan levels of parent trauma, but what's that?? IT'S THE JIANG PARENTS WITH A STEEL CHAIR!!! the combo of fear and respect he had for Yu Ziyuan is already bad enough, but then there's also the feeling of responsibility for the Jiang siblings that they put on him, which then leads to, you know, all the Yunmeng sibling problems

Lan Wangji: this dude is so haunted by his father potentially kidnapping his mother and then locking her up and putting himself in seclusion, and this significantly shapes his relationship with Wei Wuxian. plus he took his mother's death really, really badly :(

Shen Qingqiu: he like never mentions his parents?? which is weird, but at least he's not haunted by it. however, he gets the special privilege of being the person exacerbating someone else's mommy/daddy issues. he brought this on himself. he doesn't get to walk out of a confession involving a metaphor where he'd be pregnant with his partner and act like that's normal

Xie Lian: he definitely has trauma surrounding his parents for sure, but they don't seem to have manifested as specifically mommy/daddy issues? it's just, you know. normal grief. honestly, there's so much shit going on with his trauma and baggage that he can't be defined by this one thing

Hua Cheng: does not seem to care about his parents?? at all???? he's presumably an orphan and they're probably the origin of his self worth issues, but like. in the grand scheme of things, they do not seem to be that big of a concern for him. who needs mommy issues when you have devotion to dianxia i guess

I simply Could Not resist drawing their Bill in this ridiculous incredible and very fashionable pink feather dress, even though he only briefly wears it in their fic, so I also did a little bonus doodle of him in his standard hoodie to make up for it. XD (Also, as far as I'm concerned, Bill and Mabel were both correct in that lime green accessories make the dress Much Better.)

im dead serious about this btw maybe im deranged but i can come up w yandere scenarios for like... a good portion of the creepypastas i know.

most of them don't even know how to have healthy relationships by default, and typically fall into the yandere category already in some way.

like... the bloody painter, for example. due to his upbringing, he's never once had any sort of relationship in his life that was positive and healthy. his parents loathed the way he was born and the one person he considered a friend turned around and made him a target of mass bullying. you could give him a perfectly healthy relationship on a silver platter and he'd still stalk you.

another example could be jason the toymaker, but he's pretty self-explanatory.

jeff the killer is a possessive bastard who would never let you break up with him once you start dating. you became his the moment he decided to let you live, and there's no way he'd ever let you get away from him.

homicidal liu is an overprotective guard dog who would sooner hide you away from the world than ever risk losing you, and sully is worse than him because whereas liu wouldn't hurt others over you unless absolutely necessary, sully has probably already murdered all your friends just for funsies.

ticci toby is so horrifically lonely and has the worst abandonment issues known to man that he'd probably keep you tied up in some dingy cabin in the woods just to make sure you don't leave him.

Random Ancients headcanon of the day is that the final time the WoL fights Elidibus (P11), as Themis in the Convocation’s chamber, mirrors the first time he fought Azem - when the Fourteen were voicing their approval of him to take the Seat of the Emissary, and she bade him prove that he was willing to stand against her, the hero he admired, before she would accept him for the role. They fought then and there in that room, and once he had proven himself (and returned to consciousness), Azem gave him the final word of affirmation he needed, and he joined the Convocation. It was a formative moment, and so when the time came for him to face his end, Azem’s shard, his desires made that memory manifest once more.
