TW: medical
People who’ve been successfully medicated for POTS, please help!
I tried methyldopa and it made all my symptoms worse so I switched to clonidine a day ago and whilst I know it’s only supposed to drop my blood pressure for the first couple weeks, it’s already hell a day in. I even had to take the afternoon off work because I fell asleep on my keyboard. My other options right now are midodrine 2-3 times a day which causes supine hypertension so I wouldn’t be able to lie down all day (impossible for me with ME and EDS), or fludrocortisone which I’m not against but might not work if I can’t eat/drink enough and also might drop my potassium which I’ve already had problems with in the past.
Has anyone tried any of these and can give me some ideas of how to deal with the initial hell and/or continuing side effects? I’d go to the ER for IV fluids but I’m too exhausted to fight plus they don’t let me lie down. Even just general advice appreciated.

Early morning Clonidine dreams are fucking BIZARRE apparently.
-Held and cuddled a guinea-pig-sized jumping spider (I'm terrified of spiders)
-Met an anthropomorphic Ant man (very humanoid in form, nearly faceless except big black eyes, wings on the back of his calves that did nothing)
-Had weird monster sex with said Ant Man [HIS REPRODUCTIVE CYCLE IS WEIRD. WOULD GO INTO DETAIL IF ANYONE IS CURIOUS]
-mpreg
-We have a weird hybrid child? Top half baby girl, bottom half just ant butt and legs. Ant centaur.
-Their species is skilled with a bow and arrow straight out the ant.
-She has the strength and intelligence of an ant creature and the stubbornness of her human mom. She's a handful and she bickers with me a lot.
-Despite this, she likes a lot of my favorite things and we're similar in nature.
-Some evil guy doesn't like ant husband and I. Tries to trick daughter into poisoning us.
-Doesn't work. Daughter and I make up.
Random Additional Info
-Daughter loves eating tiny food, picked that up from her mom. Uses tiny silverware and eats out of tiny tins and boxes.
-Ant husband picked this habit up when he's stressed. Specifically will eat a small cup of rocky road ice cream with a tiny spoon or a tiny can of tuna.
-Ant and I have a friend, Moth woman, who lives nearby. She gets stuck in capitalistic loop of buying things and we convince her to give it up and be happy living in her empty house cave again.

To all of my folks out there who are on clonidine: please do not skip your doses
It is not that you will simply feel your symptoms again like I had thought, but it can really fuck with your blood pressure and heart rate, which I learned the hard way

I’ve had to keep reminding myself lately that I’m NOT being rude or mean!!! when I confront ppl, despite my brain & cortisol levels telling me otherwise (annoying)
BUT at least I am now doing the confronting, whereas previously I would simply avoid telling someone No altogether… it also helps when I know I’m in the right, like pretty objectively.
(tangent:)
Like certain ppl are regularly weird & shitty and other ppl around them just let it happen (that’s normally me too tbh); idk for some reason lately I have less & less patience for ppls shitty behavior. Maybe my new Rx is actually effecting my “rejection sensitivity” (as my therapist claims). I still want my stimulant.

Clonidine blocks SNS axis and dexamethasone enhances the HPA axis, acting synergistically to balance the stress response system during SARS-CoV2 infection and prevent organ damage in a dyshomeostatic person. Clonidine and Dexamethasone Act Synergistically to Prevent Complication during SARS-CoV-2 Infection
We have previously hypothesized that SARS-CoV-2 infection leads to overactivation of the SNS axis and drives uncontrolled inflammation in the chronic sympathetic hyperactive population leading to poor outcome. Pharmacologic attenuation of SNS overactivation can be addressed by an FDA approved agent, clonidine, an alpha-2 agonist that may have clinical benefit and prevent COVID-19 complications [22,47]. In a small case series, we demonstrated early administration of clonidine-mitigated SARS-CoV-2 related symptoms, thus preventing complications [47]. Others have used clonidine lately in CCU as a sedation and ventilation method to manage respiratory distress in SARS-CoV-2 patients Taken together, much evidence suggests that disruption of the stress response system with the gain of function of the SNS axis and loss of function of the HPA axis can lead to a worse outcome during SARS-CoV-2 infection. Therefore, here I propose that timely administration of a combination of clonidine and dexamethasone in high-risk patients has the potential to prevent complications and death (Figure 1C).
Clonidine should be given in symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection and should be started early in high-risk population and increased gradually while monitoring blood pressure and heart rate. If the patient’s condition has not improved or the patient requires oxygen and/or has deranged biomarkers (such as serum CRP, D-dimer, serum ferritin), dexamethasone should be added without delay at a tolerable dosage (Figure 2). Given the variable and potentially opposing effects of clonidine and dexamethasone, either drug alone may not be sufficient to control the ongoing inflammation. Randomized clinical trials to test the hypothesis that clonidine and dexamethasone can act synergistically to stop the ongoing overt inflammation centrally at the brainstem level and peripherally at the organs should be encouraged. Generation of the appropriate biomarkers and proper internal control would yield considerable mechanistic information useful to those unfortunate individuals who develop severe symptoms following COVID-19 infection.
This combined approach recapitulates the idea of “closing dam (centrally) and building wall (peripherally) to protect the home field (major organ)” from excessive catecholaminergic flooding. It should be emphasized that late administration of either drug is not beneficial after significant organ damage has already occurred.

so I'm taking a bunch of my "as needed" anxiety medications to tamp down symptoms and it's a very interesting experience of being:
drowsey
incredibly functional and alert
able to think easier
calmer
slowed down
all at the same time. It's like, the intended effect? It's just surprising that it works because I'm used to tiredness making my emotions and symptoms harder to manage instead of eaiser. Regardless, nice. I feel somewhat like myself and not like hell warmed over.

If life were fair or just I would be sitting down on a luxurious chaise lounge all day in really expensive silk dresses that are incredibly revealing and I would read incest yaoi and eat cheese and grapes and brag to anyone that passes by about how beautiful I am

🌠& 💬 for the soulbond ask game? :) - @soularsys
Do you voluntarily soulbond, or does it happen by chance /accidentally / etc?
Yeah it kind of just...happened, with him. Essentially he recaptured the energy of a dormant, fading thoughtform and used it to start metaphorically lounging on my mental piano. We've tried to voluntarily bond with others but he's so powerful he kind of uses up all of the available mental bandwidth.
What are some fun facts about your soulbond(s)?
He's a version of M.ettaton from an alternate timeline that doesn't have an associated published AU. F.allen F.lowers M.ettaton looks very similarly to the way he does, though. We're a median so at times he's very distinct but at times it's more like we're each other's kintypes.
To make a long story short, he more wanted to be the most theatrical, vampire-coded guy alive than wanted to be a Bratz doll. A consummate goth, a walking Shakespearean monologue that just loves talking about himself. He ran an upscale nightclub instead of a resort hotel, one where various musicians, actors and artists from throughout the U.nderground would perform, but he was always the main event. Sometimes it'd be music, sometimes a play. His tastes ran to the distinctly Grand Guignol...
And instead of a box with a wheel, his first body was a repurposed cleaning robot, a spidery thing with 8 legs.

me when I took 4 times my usual dosage of clonidine last night to go the fuck to bed but it felt like I was excavating my own skeleton in 0.5x speed getting out of bed this morning and I'm stuck looking like a walking corpse for the interview that caused this whole course of action

weird question probably, but has anyone tried benzodiazepines with their dog or other animal? how did it go? my veterinary behaviorist has brought it up a few times as an option for my pup, but i guess i’m wary of schedule iv drugs.
i’d ask on one of the Facebook dog pages i follow, but they seem to frown down on medication questions 🥺👉👈
