Guys I desperately need help trying to find this book I read once. I don’t remember the main plot line but the characters have to work around the Story, like a fourth wall thing that forces fairy tale tropes. There was one scene where a girl dressed as a knight rescues a princess and she can feel the Story trying to make them fall in love so she makes the princess take a blood brothers oath with her to force the trope away from romance. Also there were dragons. I can’t figure out how to successfully google this and I’m going fucking insane.

I’m afraid of needles, but damn, this was not the most frightening part of the day Perhaps there’s something to criticize about me not having been able to hold space for his ideas, being different from mine. Perhaps there’s something to criticize about me for jumping to conclusions about safety, when he could be a "nice guy". But I could not leave. I could not even stop the conversation. I could not even redirect it to something entirely different, like the weather, or donuts, or something.

Twitter has also taken down my app Lucy’s Microwave, which was what I was using to create beautiful threads. I think part of it is related to the fact that I’d been supporting fellow Medium writers and tweeting out their links, which often come with their Twitter handles. Twitter isn’t a huge fan of a high volume of @ // mentions and I should have known this.

This happened to me once when I worked in a coffee roastery. One of the other guys who worked there had some developmental disabilities and thus some interpersonal quirks, and one of his favorite things to do was ask people questions. At one point he came up to me and asked whether I preferred Dick’s or Red Mill (both super cheap burger places). I told him that I like both but I preferred Dick’s. Later that day I saw him go up to my boss and go “hey Charlie did you know Jeanette HATES Red Mill????”

When I was a senior in high school, in order to graduate we had to write a 25 page thesis on what we believed the Good Life to be. We then had to defend it in front of our whole class and all our teachers. There were always a handful of people who’d write about sacrifice which led to my favorite audience question: “You said the greatest sacrifice is the sacrifice of one’s life for another. How can you live the Good Life if you’re dead?” No one ever had a good answer for that.

i think it's great when someone tries to pull off a tragic self-sacrifice in a story and there's at least one guy who's just like "no this is fucking stupid actually. you're an idiot." about it. because it kind of is. i love a good tragedy but let's be honest with ourselves if a friend tried to indulge a noble sacrifice fantasy would you not be a little annoyed. like come on man.
