Of Chaos and Quiet Moments
Chapter 3: Midnight Mischief Pairing: Loki x Reader Timeline: Some months before their trip to Asgard.
The house was quiet, save for the faint creak of floorboards beneath Loki’s careful steps. He moved with the grace of a predator, though his intent tonight was far from malicious. In his hand, he carried two cloaks, their fabric shimmering faintly in the moonlight streaming through the window.
He reached the bedroom and pushed the door open just enough to peer inside. (Y/N) lay in bed, her body nestled beneath the covers, her hair fanned out over the pillow. She looked peaceful, but Loki knew better. The day had been long and chaotic—one child crying over a broken toy, another throwing an epic tantrum over bedtime, and the youngest stubbornly refusing their vegetables.
“Darling,” Loki whispered, his voice smooth as silk.
(Y/N) stirred but didn’t open her eyes. “Hmm?” she mumbled sleepily.
Loki smirked. “Get up. We’re leaving.”
Her brow furrowed, and she cracked one eye open. “Leaving? Loki, it’s the middle of the night. The kids are finally asleep.”
“Precisely,” he replied, stepping into the room and holding up the cloaks like an offering. “They’re asleep, and I intend to steal you away before tomorrow’s chaos begins anew.”
(Y/N) sat up slowly, propping herself against the headboard. “And go where, exactly?”
“A place I haven’t visited in far too long,” Loki said, his voice carrying an almost boyish excitement. “A forest of enchantment, untouched by time. Trust me, you’ll love it.”
She raised an eyebrow, skeptical but intrigued. “And what happens if the kids wake up and we’re gone?”
“Thor and Jane will manage,” Loki said dismissively, already draping one of the cloaks over her shoulders. “They owe us for all those nights I begged them to babysit. Now, come, darling. Adventure awaits.”
(Y/N) couldn’t help but laugh softly at his enthusiasm. “Fine. But if we get caught, you’re explaining it to Jane.”
Loki grinned, mischief lighting his eyes. “Caught? Love, I am the God of Mischief. We won’t even leave a trace.”
With a wave of his hand, green light enveloped them, and in the blink of an eye, they were gone.
The cool night air greeted them as they reappeared in a forest bathed in silver moonlight. Towering trees stretched toward the sky, their branches adorned with leaves that shimmered faintly as though kissed by starlight. The ground was soft underfoot, carpeted with moss and tiny glowing flowers that pulsed gently, as if alive.
(Y/N) gasped, turning in a slow circle to take it all in. “Loki… this is incredible.”
He watched her with quiet satisfaction, his heart swelling at the awe in her expression. “I thought you might like it,” he said, stepping closer to her.
“It’s magical,” she murmured, brushing her fingers against a low-hanging branch that sparkled at her touch. “How did you find this place?”
“I stumbled upon it as a boy,” Loki replied, his voice softer now. “It was my refuge, my escape from… everything. I would come here to think. To dream.”
(Y/N) turned to him, her eyes shining in the moonlight. “And you brought me here.”
Of course,” he said, reaching out to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. “It is one of the few places in all the realms that feels untouched by the burdens of the world. You deserve that peace, my love.”
Her heart swelled at his words, and she closed the distance between them, wrapping her arms around his waist. “You’re too good to me sometimes, you know that?”
Loki chuckled, his hands settling on her hips. “Not nearly as good as you deserve.”
They stood there for a moment, wrapped in each other’s warmth beneath the canopy of enchanted trees. Fireflies began to emerge, their golden lights flitting through the air like tiny stars come to life.
“Dance with me,” Loki said suddenly, holding out a hand.
(Y/N) laughed. “There’s no music.”
He arched an eyebrow, a playful smirk curling his lips. “Do I look like a man who needs music?”
She rolled her eyes but took his hand, letting him pull her into a slow, swaying dance. Loki moved with effortless grace, guiding her across the glowing forest floor as if they were in the grandest ballroom in Asgard.
As they danced, the tension of the day melted away. Laughter bubbled up as Loki spun her dramatically, only to catch her with a flourish that was far too theatrical for their quiet surroundings.
“You’re ridiculous,” (Y/N) teased, though her cheeks ached from smiling.
“And yet, you adore me,” he countered, leaning in close. His voice dropped to a whisper, his lips brushing her ear. “Don’t you?”
She shivered, her laughter fading as the air between them shifted. “You know I do,” she murmured, her voice softer now.
Loki’s hand slid from her waist to the small of her back, pulling her closer. His other hand tilted her chin up, forcing her to meet his gaze. “Good,” he said, his voice low and full of promise. “Because I intend to spend the rest of the night ensuring you never forget it.”
Loki’s lips brushed against hers, featherlight at first, teasing and testing. His hand, warm and sure, splayed across her back, pulling her flush against him as the kiss deepened. (Y/N) melted into him, her fingers tangling in his dark hair as he tilted his head, changing the angle to steal another breathless sigh from her.
The air seemed to hum around them, charged with the energy of the forest and the fireflies swirling in golden patterns. Loki's kisses trailed from her lips to her jawline, then to the sensitive spot just below her ear, drawing a gasp from her.
“Do you know how maddening you are?” he murmured, his voice rough and low against her skin.
(Y/N) chuckled breathlessly, her hands sliding to his shoulders. “Maddening? That’s rich coming from you.”
Loki’s lips curved into a smirk against her neck. “Touché,” he conceded, though his response came with a nip to her collarbone, earning him a soft moan.
He drew back just enough to meet her eyes, his own darkened with hunger. “Say the word, my love, and I’ll stop,” he said, his tone a mixture of reverence and desire.
Her answer came without hesitation. “Don’t stop.”
That was all the permission Loki needed. With a wave of his hand, their cloaks spread out beneath them, creating a makeshift bed on the soft moss. He lowered her gently, his movements slow and deliberate, as if savoring the sight of her beneath him. The moonlight filtered through the canopy, casting a silver glow across her skin, and Loki paused to drink it in.
“You are breathtaking,” he murmured, his fingers tracing the curve of her cheek before slipping lower to the neckline of her dress.
(Y/N) arched a brow, her smile playful despite the heat building between them. “I could say the same about you.”
Loki chuckled, a deep and velvety sound, as he leaned down to kiss her again. His hands worked deftly to free her from her dress, the fabric slipping away to reveal the soft curves he adored so much. His kisses grew more fervent, trailing down her neck, her chest, her stomach—each touch worshipful and deliberate.
“Loki,” she gasped, her hands threading through his hair again as he moved lower, his lips igniting a fire everywhere they touched.
He glanced up at her, his smirk wicked and his eyes alight with mischief. “Yes, darling?”
She didn’t answer with words. Instead, she tugged him back up, crashing her lips against his in a kiss filled with raw need. Loki groaned against her mouth, his control slipping as her hands began exploring him in return, unfastening his tunic and sliding it from his shoulders.
His skin was warm under her touch, and she reveled in the way his muscles tensed and shifted beneath her fingers. Loki allowed her exploration for a moment before reclaiming dominance, pinning her hands above her head with one hand while the other resumed its journey along her body.
“You are mine,” he whispered fiercely, his lips brushing against her ear. “Every breath, every sigh, every beautiful sound you make… they all belong to me.”
(Y/N) shivered, her heart racing at the intensity in his voice. “Always,” she promised, her words barely a whisper.
Loki shifted his weight, his hands gently cradling (Y/N)’s face as he gazed down at her, his emerald eyes darkened with desire and affection. “You are everything to me,” he murmured, his voice husky and intimate, meant only for her to hear. His thumb traced the curve of her cheek, and she felt herself melt under his touch.
He leaned down, capturing her lips in a kiss that began soft and exploratory but quickly deepened into something more urgent. His tongue slid against hers, coaxing soft moans from her as his hands roamed lower, skimming the sides of her body with reverence. He lingered at the swell of her belly, his palm resting there as if grounding himself in the life they’d created together.
(Y/N) tilted her head back as his mouth trailed along her jawline and down her neck, his kisses hot and deliberate. Her breaths came faster, her fingers tangling in his dark hair to hold him close. Every sensation was magnified under the blanket of stars—the cool air against her skin, the warmth of his body, the hum of energy between them.
“Let me show you,” Loki whispered, his lips brushing against her ear, “how deeply you are loved.”
He pulled back only long enough to slip off his shirt, revealing the smooth, pale expanse of his chest. (Y/N) reached out instinctively, her hands roaming over his muscles, marveling at the strength beneath his skin. Loki’s lips quirked into a small, knowing smile before he bent to help her out of her dress, his movements unhurried but determined. The fabric pooled around her waist, leaving her bare to the soft glow of the fireflies.
“You are divine,” Loki murmured, his gaze drinking her in as though she were a vision brought to life. His hands skimmed her sides, his touch light but electric, sending shivers coursing through her body. When his lips followed the path of his hands, pressing kisses to her collarbone, her breasts, and the curve of her belly, (Y/N) let out a soft, shuddering sigh.
He guided her to lay back on the blanket he’d conjured earlier, the soft fabric cushioning her as Loki knelt between her legs. His hands slid up her thighs, parting them gently, his thumbs tracing idle circles on her skin as his eyes locked with hers. The heat of his gaze was enough to make her body ache with anticipation.
Loki leaned down to kiss her again, slower this time, as though savoring her. His body pressed against hers, his weight comforting but never overwhelming. As his kisses grew deeper, his hands continued their exploration, mapping every curve of her body with tender precision. When his fingers slipped between her legs, finding her warm and ready for him, (Y/N) gasped, her hips arching instinctively to meet his touch.
“Patience, my love,” Loki teased, though his voice was thick with his own need. He shifted again, aligning himself with her as he leaned down to rest his forehead against hers. “Tell me if I hurt you,” he whispered, his tone gentle and reverent.
(Y/N) nodded, her fingers clutching at his shoulders as he pressed into her with slow, deliberate care. The sensation was overwhelming—intense but deeply intimate, as though they were two halves of a whole finally coming together. Loki paused, allowing her to adjust to the fullness of him, his lips peppering soft kisses across her face and murmuring reassurances.
When she gave a small nod and a whispered, “I’m okay,” he began to move. His thrusts were slow and purposeful, each one drawing a soft gasp or moan from her lips. Loki’s hands slid under her, cradling her hips to hold her closer as he deepened his rhythm. His mouth found hers again, their kiss matching the intensity of their movements.
Every stroke, every caress, every whispered word was a declaration of his love and devotion. (Y/N) felt as though the world had melted away, leaving only the two of them surrounded by the glow of the fireflies and the gentle rustle of the forest.
Their pace quickened as their shared passion built, the tension coiling tighter with every movement. Loki’s name spilled from her lips like a prayer, and he responded in kind, his voice rough and unrestrained. When they finally reached their peak together, the release was shattering, waves of pleasure rolling through them both as they clung to each other.
Loki collapsed beside her, his chest heaving as he pulled her into his arms. His lips pressed to her temple, and his fingers drew lazy patterns on her skin as they basked in the afterglow. The fireflies resumed their gentle dance around them, and the stars seemed to shine just a little brighter.
“I love you,” Loki murmured, his voice low and full of emotion.
(Y/N) smiled, her heart swelling with warmth as she nestled closer to him. “I love you too.”
For a moment, all was perfect—just the two of them, lost in their love, the rest of the world far, far away.

Hadestown tour!!!! Absolutely amazing all time favorite musical. Some details I noticed or liked!
Hermes and Eurydice hug at the top of the show.
The Audience was too quick on the “aight” and Hermes like wiggled his finger at us and made us do it again.
When Eurydice asks if anybody has a match, Orpheus scrambled to find one and tries to give it to her but she took Hermes’ already.
Harmonies! I don’t know all the technical terms but everyone sounded amazing!
Really loved Megan Colton as Eurydice. She comes off more teasing in Come Home With Me. It read more playful than the obc which I really liked. Made their romance more believable and less of a 180. I don’t know that’s the one part of the obc caste recording that never really clicked with me.
During Epic 1, Persephone and then Hades stop to look at Orpheus. Persephone stands up to look over the railing. Then when she’s getting ready to leave, she tries to get Hades’ attention. Touches his arm, stares in his direction. But he only looks once she’s turned her back on him. And the spotlight follows Persephone and doesn’t come back to him, leaving him in shadow until it’s time to collect Persephone.
Orpheus did a little jump to get in between Eurydice and Hades and when the workers are getting ready to leave, Eurydice makes to follow them it Orpheus stops her, wrapping her in a hug. This is reversed later when Orpheus confronts Hades and Eurydice tries to stop him.
Towards the end of Chant a little before“people starve” Eurydice collapses and her position completes a circle the workers have formed. Like she’s already one of them.
More music appreciation. Just everything about it.
They don’t have the sinking middle part of the stage, but I really love how they adapted. It leaned into Hermes as psychopomp. He stood jangling a coin purse but when Eurydice approaches they both stop, recognizing each other. And it’s Eurydice to reaches out to stop the coin into his bag, a single clink on a silent stage. She makes her choice on her own and she forces Hermes to accept it, even if he doesn’t want to. She trips slightly walking up the stairs, and though she looks back several times, she makes no move to return.
Wait for me is so good. The harmonies and Orpheus’ solo at the end. The build up of all the instruments.
In Why We Build the Wall Hades had a bit of an echo/reverb, like his words were being broadcast across the city. Hades also had a phenomenal voice and he shouted a good few of his lines. But then the final free most of the big instruments cut out and it was just so ethereal. That little of bit of hope that makes you see why the workers buy into and believe it.
Persephone also amazing! Really liked her voice and she was great at being that bit of sunlight in Hades.
Hermes took his jacket off for the second act and looked awesome.
Flowers is always so good. Just Eurydice center stage in grief.
In Chant (reprise) the workers form a statue and our main cast cycles in and out, pushing each other out of the way to stand in the center.
During Epic III Hades moves around s the stage and it’s left to interpretation if he’s advancing to hurt someone or if he’s trying to flee. Persephone gets in front of him and blocks his path, and Hermes reaches out as if to stop him.
Promises really showed Orpheus and Eurydice’s reversal of outlooks. Eurydice is so confident that Hades will let them go, while Orpheus keeps questioning things. Eurydice dances around the stage, talking to the workers while Orpheus stands still.
The lighting for the whole show was amazing. Big flashes when the music swells. Warm tones for most scenes. But then Doubt Comes In and the stage is dark. Orpheus is bathed in cool light, Eurydice cloaked in shadow. The Fates float around with their lanterns.
And after he turns around, Eurydice sounds so distraught. Like of course it’s me why wouldn’t it be me. And she’s carried off by two of the chorus who lift her up. And Orpheus lays crumpled in grief as Hermes sings without music.
Everyone did amazing I love this show so much. @nabwastaken (cause you wanted to hear about this)

Organization XIII, ranked by their titles
Roxas: The Key of Destiny Nice and epic. The good double meaning that he wields the key, yet also is the key to the organization plans, turned and manipulated to unlock a door with no will of his own. The organization sees him as the key to their destiny, but really, Roxas is the key and the bearer, and through his arc, learns to be the keeper of his own fate. 1000/10
Demyx: The Melodious Nocturne Rolls off the tongue in a pleasant way. You might think, “what the heckity is a nocturne? It sounds cool as heck.” Well, a nocturne is (what a surprise), a musical term. But specifically, it is a word used in both art and music, to describe a piece evocative of night. A cool sounding term for a fantasy character that, when you google it, actually means something interesting and thematically relevant? what a rarity/10
Larxene: The Savage Nymph Now, the usage of ‘nymph’ might take some points off this one, being more befitting a character with nature powers, like Marluxia. Or, she could be using nymph in the more entomological definition, meaning young insect, like a wasp or a hornet, something with a bit more ‘sting’ to it. The real confusion of the second part keeps her from the top slot, but the delicious zeugma of the first half makes up for it. #savage/10
Axel: Fury of the Dancing Flames Ooh. What a wonderful epithet. There’s such a nice prose to it, not found in any other members of the evil squad. On top of that, it covers all the bases that we as the audience need to know about Axel. What is he? Angy. How will he express that? Fire. Like, boring, non-dancing fire? Nope. Sick-as-hell dancing fire. Axel should get to dance too tho/10
Xaldin: The Whirlwind Lancer I’ll say, I tried to keep personal opinions of the characters out of this ranking. It’s pure coincidence that some of my favorites have the dopest names. And nothing proves that more than Xaldin’s placement here. Do I like this man? Nah. But, I have to admit, his bossfight in Two is really artful. Someone had to sit down and ask themselves “How do we make the wind intimidating?” And their core concept started with a whirlwind, lances, and terrible sideburns. The sideburns didn’t make it into the name, and thank the stars for that. But the rest is very nicely menacing. 7/10
Xemnas: Superior of the In-Between Another name that says what it does on the tin. Xemnas is constantly getting referred to as “The Superior” instead of everyone just calling him “boss” like a normal person. It’s got more than a hint of over-dramatic edginess to it. But that is one of the reasons we love Kingdom Hearts. Same thing goes for the audacity Xemans has to call him realm “The In-Between”, which sounds way better than “Our neo-neo-gothic nightmare pocket dimension with Escher-esque skyscraper clipping” drama queen/10
Zexion: The Cloaked Schemer “Cloaked” and “Schemer” describe approximately 90% of the organization. It’s like if your job description at the office was “Guy who has hair and opinions”. Zexion isn’t even the schemer-iest egg in the carton! Fine name in most other evil friendgroups, just not this one. come on Zexion you can do better than this/10
Vexen: The Chilly Academic I really appreciate that, despite roughly 4/13ths of this emo dream team having a background in science, Vexen is the academic. No one else. Nope, not even those three other guys who worked in the same lab as you. Nah Vexen, science is your thing, we’re not gonna step on your gimmick. Like we’ve come to expect, 'Chilly’ here pulls double duty as both a literal descriptor of his powers and a more metaphorical adjective about the villains temperament. Though, I don’t know it you can in good faith call someone who spends so much of his screen time either shrieking or giggling “chilly”. 5/10
Saix: The Luna Diviner You know, I always thought Saix’s title was the lunar diviner, but nope, I’m looking at the wiki right now. It says Luna. Which kinda cuts the pacing of the title right through the gut. I much prefer his japanese title, Demonic Dancing In The Moon, which has the benefit of 1) Matching with Axel, and 2) Being metal as hell. Also, diviner??? When has Saix ever delivered a single prediction in the entirety of the series, other than the usually correct “I am going to go absolutely apeshit now”, which any good scientist will know, is a variable controlled by the tester and thus, suffers greatly from confirmation bias. moon moon/10
Luxord: The Gambler of Fate Most of these epithets follow a very simple pattern; adjective, what-they-bring-to-the-company. Roxas breaks the rules because he’s important, Xemnas does it because he’s the CEO, and Axel does it because he is simply The Best Boy. But nowhere, in any game we have received so far, is there reason to believe Luxord is special enough to similarly defy the mold. We didn’t even know how his regular name was pronounced until kh3!!! Luxord smacks of someone who doesn’t know how much of a background character he really is. I mean, come on, the gambler of fate? Mi amigo, you show up twice and keel over to a child beating you at go-fish. We’re not exactly dealing with the grand machinations of the cosmos here. Nomura, if you give me reason to, I will consider adjusting this rank/10
Xigbar: The Freeshooter Again with shirking conventions! However, I will give credit where credit is due, Xigbar seems to have the narrative weight to deserve it. Which is where my actual complaint comes in: you go out of your way to stand out from the pack, and the best you can come up with is freeshooter? Boring. No pizazzle, no flamboyant adjectives, just blunt as lead and twice as clunky. Man is a hundreds year old ceiling dwelling sniper with an eyepatch and a surfer accent, there’s gotta be something more interesting than freeshooter. Xigbar I had such high hopes for you/10
Marluxia: The Graceful Assassin  Graceful, I’ll give you. No one goes harder on the pastel instagram aesthetic than Marluxia. But ‘assassin’ seems a weird choice. Especially for the guy who was put in charge of hiring new assets (Sora) to the Council of Depressed Queers. That is literally the opposite of assassinating. I mean, Axel’s killed like three of his coworkers, and this femme king gets to be called the assassin? I’m sorry my gay, but pink glitter and a weird mech does not instantly make you a bringer of death. let Marluxia commit homicide/10
Lexaeus: The Silent Hero/The Taciturn Stalwart Dude has a completely different title in Remix and no one noticed because he’s just that Boring. 0/10

My thoughts on Dr. Stone’s S02E04 (“Full Assault”)
My thoughts after watching Season Two, Episode Four:
01. I love Lillian’s song! 😊
02. Has Tsukasa not shared with the others his vision for a scienceless utopia? The way Nikki was talking about it, it sounded like she just had a vague idea about Tsukasa’s goals, but nothing more than that.
03. Taiju learned the consequences of having a good idea… 😆
04. Aww, Magma wants to avenge Chrome 😊 I mean, he used Chrome as a human shield and that was how he “died,” but… this is still touching 😁
05. Chrome was really smart in figuring out Ukyo’s intentions! And Ukyo appearing behind him could have been a surprise if the camera hadn’t been panning to the right, but Ukyo still looked super cool! 😁
06. Chrome is the most relaxed captive ever 😆
07. Didn’t they use those same two “muscular people” shots when Gen arrived at the Cave of Miracles to give Tsukasa his fake report?
08. We finally hear Ukyo speak normally. The super deep voice in the teaser way back sounded weird, but I guess he was being intense then. This higher-pitched, more relaxed tone of his fits much better with what I would have imagined his voice sounding like 😊
09. I get that they look cool and all, but a whole bunch of people, including the two strongest fighters, are just sitting in the dark and doing nothing. That’s so unproductive 😆 But guarding the Cave of Miracles is a job too, I suppose!
10. The scene of Chrome meeting Tsukasa for the first time shows the difference between anime and manga as artistic mediums. With anime, you get music and movement, which helps slow-paced scenes go faster. But with manga, you STOP a lot, and feel the epicness of a particular scene, because you’re locked in that moment with them. Because things have to move quickly in anime, this meeting felt less epic. I think they should have focused away from Chrome and Tsukasa and maybe gone back to the kingdom of science so that there’s time for the suspense to build and for the viewer to be all, “AHHH! WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN?!”
11. Kohaku cares so much about Chrome that she wanted to leave to rescue him right then and there! 😭 The video game music made this a lot more lighthearted than what I imagined, but I liked seeing Senku call Kohaku a lioness again, and that he was the only one who could stop her! 😁 (And, for the second time this series, Kokuyou restrains Kohaku from putting herself in danger to help a friend. He cares about her safety! 😁)
12. Homura has a pretty good set-up for a prisoner – private room, foxtail ramen… 😆
13. Kohaku and Senku standing side by side! 😊 That’s a good shot 😊 What makes it weird is that Senku is carrying something and Kohaku isn’t. Usually, like in the waterwheel scene, she’s carrying a lot of stuff and he’s carrying very little – but he’s still more tired than she is 😆
14. Why did Kaseki saw those grooves into the wheel? For flexibility?
15. A new roadmap! 😁 Senku being so excited about building a car is adorable 😆
16. Poor Gen, Kinro, and Ginro… they were attacked by a ton of speakers when they went to get those honeycombs… 😆 But their hardships weren’t in vain!
17. Ruri’s used to the way Senku says things 😁 And Kohaku was in Senku’s oxygen pumping example… after he said in Season One that his type of girl is one who can pump a ton of oxygen into a furnace 😁
18. Kohaku knows Chrome so well! 😊 And… everybody knows exactly what she means 😆
19. Of all the things to mention to lure them to Senku’s side, Chrome starts off with colorful flames. Whyyy?? 😆 Tsukasa, Hyoga, and Ukyo gave him such dead stares after he said that… 😆
20. This is the third time in the series that Chrome has tried to use science to appeal to people who have other interests (the first two times were Kinro with the generator and Gen with electricity). He loves science so much 😊 Even if it’s not the right bait for some people…
21. Chrome is SO cool and loyal in the face of death! Although this scene has the same problem as the one where he met Tsukasa – there isn’t enough time for the viewer to admire his conviction as he falls before he gets saved by Ukyo’s arrow.
22. Tsukasa pulled up an entire tree trunk?? With ONE hand?? 😲 I mean… maybe it was rotted out or something, but… one hand?? 😲 Then again, I DID accept, or at least move past, his catching that crossbow bolt way back in Season One, so… 😆
23. I never had any thoughts one way or another about what the back of Hyoga’s cape looked like, but now that I know, this feels like something I can’t unsee 😆 Is there a purpose to those holes and strings? Maybe the lowest circle is to help hold up what he’s wearing under the cloak, or something, but are the other four circles just for aesthetic purposes?
24. Ukyo goes from smiling and innocent to pretty suspicious-looking in just a few seconds 😆
25. Everybody looks great in their industrial revolution clothing! Magma, in particular, looks really cool 😁 I’m sure we’ll see more of their moving iron creation in the next episode!
26. I love this season's ending song! 😊

WIP influences tag
thanks @kittensartswriting and @siarven for the tag! I think the rules are just that you ramble about a few influences for your WIPs so I’m going to do this for The Laoche Chronicles as a whole, including both Storge and the main trilogy that I really need to name.
Life stuff!
Sometimes (a lot of the times) reality is stranger than any fiction I could come up with, and so one of my favorite things to do is take scary and relevant irl situations and then recontextualize them in a fantasy world to get a different POV (and give the characters dealing with them a happy ending). For example in Storge: what would a world look like where sexism and racism don’t really exist, but there’s serious systematic oppression based on magic and religion? How does a healthy vs unhealthy family deal with a crisis? how does a society get so polarized? For Laoche: I was sitting in Calc AP my senior year listening to my friends complain about the upcoming test when someone said “I’d kill to get into X program” and my first thought was “hmm. what if?”
This sort of stuff is the driving force behind the themes in all of my stories. No matter how fantastical it gets, it’ll always have that relatable basis in reality to ground readers in the story.
This is going to get long so there’s more under the cut...
Mythology and religion:
This should come as a surprise to absolutely no one given how many religions and variations on religions I worldbuild for this world but the way people understand the supernatural and approach concepts like faith and hope and a higher power fascinate me. Also a really weird thing that I’ve noticed reading modern literature as a devout Catholic (especially YA novels) is that it’s very commonly sterile and secular for some reason? I only realized this after going back to classics this year like Dracula and being surprised when characters write prayers into their diary entries. This shouldn’t have surprised me becasue that’s something I do, but after consuming so much modern media and then going back to it, I found myself weirdly missing how much faith was intrinsically baked into society back then, for better or for worse, because it adds a really interesting dimension to how characters view the world.
which leads into my next point...
The Sword and Serpent Series by Taylor Marshall and pretty much anything Hannah Heath has ever written (names are links to their books)
I don’t actually like Christian fiction like 90% of the time. A lot of it is written by writers from different protestant denominations which is fine, but sometimes the theology has me going ????, or the genres are just not my thing, and regardless of the denomination it all runs the risk of being really really preachy. (sorry, Narnia, that means you too). These two writers are outliers and I want to be like them when I grow up.
Hannah Heath is a scifi/fantasy/dystopian writer who actively goes out of her way to tell good stories that also happen to have a Christian theme so that they avoid that preacher pitfall, and her worldbuilding and prose are spectacular. She also tackles a lot of hard themes and is a huge disability advocate which is incredible! I haven’t read all of her works yet but I’m slowly working through them. Skys of Dripping Gold made me cry a few different times and it’s a novella.
Sword and Serpent is a trilogy historical fiction retelling of the St. George and the Dragon that ALSO deals with the political climate the Roman empire in 333AD and it’s FANTASTIC. There are saint cameos everywhere and if you know their stories it’s really cool to spot them even if you don’t recognize their period-accurate names, and it does a great job of showing how much the underground church relied on each other to survive. The character arcs and dynamics are amazing, the way it blends mythos and reality is amazing, and my (unfairly underrated imo) confirmation saint, Catherine of Alexandria, is a main character in the 2nd book so what more could you want??
Rangers Apprentice by John Flanagan and The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander
moreso for Laoche than Storge but these were my favorite book series in middle school when I first came up with the story and their general genre inspired a lot of what Laoche eventually would become. Grand adventures with epic final battles, a small band of heroes trying to save a kingdom becasue they have the knowledge of how, and earning the trust and help of other people through their heroic actions. Swords and magic and bows and knifes and cool capes/cloaks and horses and castles and all that good Fantastical Medieval Aesthetic stuff I absolutely ate up as a kid. Also Alexander’s mastery of voice with the different characters and Taran’s character arc and the platonic love and banter in RA  have me dying every time every time I reread them. Good quality fun all around
The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson
Didn’t influence me in time for Storge but now I’m rehauling everything in Laoche becasue I’m ~inspired~. I can’t speak to the extent to which it’ll influence me yet but I expect it’s going to be a LOT. Thanks Jana XD
Honorable Mentions:
J.R.R. Tolkien because what list of influences for a Catholic high fantasy author would be complete without him? This explains itself I think
Avatar the Last Airbender and everything about the way it handles themes and characterization. Also self explanatory because it’s the best
So many??? people here on writeblr! I am so inspired by everyone who is brave enough to put their writing out there and I have read stuff on here that’s better than published books. It would take too long to name everyone, but just assume that if you’re reading this and you got this far in the post I mean you.
A lot of classic literature? Not a direct influence per se but the writing style is something I want to emulate. Some of my favorites are The Count of Monte Christo, Dracula, A Tale of Two Cities, Frankenstien (sans Victor’s incessant whining), The Divine Comedy, A BUNCH of scifi stuff by Jules Verne and H.G. Wells I loved in middle school and need to reread, and Little Women.
movies and music should also probably go here but that’s a rant for a different day. I take more general vibes and aesthetics from those.

Nyx’s Ultimate Halloween Playlist
Need some theme music for your haunted house or Halloween party? I create a new Halloween/Samhain list every year. (This year’s list uses a LOT of SotN music! I’ll be posting that too.) Here’s a compilation of some of the “greatest hits.” Yes, there’s a lot of Nox Arcana.
Spooky:
“Toccata” by Nox Arcana: You need a version of Toccata and Fugue in D Minor! I use the Nox Arcana version, but if you want something more upbeat, I recommend the Trans-Siberian Orchestra version.
“Nocturne” by Nox Arcana: An almost quintessential Halloween piece. Dark, creepy, expressive, easily applicable to a variety of contexts, evokes sensual and torturous bloodlust... It’s perfect!
“Labyrinth of Dreams” by Nox Arcana: Another absolutely quintessential Halloween piece. I originally found it in a cute Halloween animation on youtube (which I’ll post later). This is my favorite Nox Arcana piece. It’s mystical and spooky, and contains the very essence of Halloween magic.
“Ceremonial Spell” by Adrian von Ziegler: In my opinion, one of the most beautiful pieces of music that I have ever heard. It invokes a dark, smoky atmosphere lit by candelabra and filled with undead, slowly, eerily waltzing.
“Masque of the Red Death” by Nox Arcana: Speaking of waltzes, this one is in a ballroom in a magnificent ballroom. This dramatic organ piece perfectly reflects Poe’s words: “There were delirious fancies such as the madman fashions. There were much of the beautiful, much of the wanton, much of the bizarre, something of the terrible, and not a little of that which might have excited disgust.”
“Into the Night” by Nox Arcana: Another one of my favorite Nox Arcana pieces, spooky and fast-paced, as the night creatures crawl out of their lairs and gather to quench their thirst.
“Ghost Bride” by Adrian von Ziegler: A melancholy music box piece. Can’t you see a beautiful, sad spirit floating down a dusty corridor in an abandoned mansion?
“The Forgotten Path” by Nox Arcana: I think this piece is underrated. It’s sinister and kinda sexy, and brings to mind seductive female spirits.
“Shadow Dance” by Nox Arcana: Much like “Labyrinth of Dreams,” this one just screams “Halloween” to me. You can just see witches and demons dancing around a fire in a forest of leafless trees.
“Once Upon a Nightmare” by Nox Arcana: Another one of my favorites from Grimm Tales. I love listening to this one when I’m walking in forests around sunset. It’s sinister, but also sounds like the beginning of an adventure. I could see this in a video game.
“Shadowplay” by Nox Arcana: This is my favorite track from Theater of Illusion. I love it for how fast and energetic it is. It puts me right into the theater, watching a handsome magician spin shadows around the stage. Mmm...
“Born of the Night” by Nox Arcana: The Dark Tower is one of my favorite albums. This particular one’s a classic and among the best Nox Arcana tracks. This takes everything I said about “Into the Night” and turns it up to eleven. It’s just so intense and cathartic. Those aformentioned night creatures raise their raspy voices in worship of the Dark Lord and Queen of the Night. The night summons like an unquenched love, beckoning with the promise of dark desire.
“Night of the Wolf” by Nox Arcana: Arguably, Nox Arcana’s most famous track. I first came across it on SYTYCD when a man used it for a solo. A few years ago, by pure coincidence, I heard those first few telltale bass strokes in dance class as my teacher was scrolling through music, and I lost my goddamn mind. I squealed like an eleven-year-old squeals over boy bands. “I’m not like other girls, I squeal over creepy shit!”
“The Raven” by Nox Arcana: The piece that helped me rediscover Nox Arcana, and that began my obsession. This piece is just so beautiful, and based after Poe’s classic poem. I listened to it while memorizing the poem. Its instrumentation is just perfect all the way through. I’m not quite sure if it belongs on this list, since it has a bit of a different atmosphere, but I love it too much to leave it off.
“Halloween Waltz” by Derek and Brandon Fiechter: Alright, let’s leave off the Nox Arcana. There’s a lot of Fiechter pieces I could put on this list, but I like this one. It lacks Nox Arcana’s sophistication, but it brings to mind a classic gathering of monsters enjoying the Hallowmass festivities on their one night.
“Cemetery Waltz” and “Waltz of the Willows” by Two Steps From Hell: These pieces are both short enough that I basically regard them as one piece. I love how ethereal and romantic they sound.
“The Vampire Masquerade” by Peter Gundry: This French-style piece puts us in a regal vampire’s ballroom, with moonlight streaming through the windows, tall candelabra, and crystal goblets of blood. All the vampires are impeccably dressed in nineteenth-century clothing. Actually, that blond gentleman over there looks more eighteenth-century French. (There’s a really cool organ version of this piece on youtube.) There’s a lot of spooky Gundry pieces that I like, especially “The Shadow’s Bride,” “The Nocturnal,” and “The Shadows Hymn,” but this one felt the most “Halloweeny.” I recommend checking out his stuff.
“Danse Macabre” by Camille Saint-Saëns: Samhain is about the spirits of the dead returning for a night of revelry. Azrael plays his violin while the ghosts and skeletons dance in the graveyard until dawn.
“An Embassy Waltz” and the original “Veilgarden Theme” by Maribeth Solomon and Brent Barkman, from Fallen London: I’m sad that FL no longer has music attached to it since the app was retired. I love this music. "An Embassy Waltz” is so evocative of everything Fallen London is-- street lamps and smoke and bats and tentacles. And the Veilgarden theme takes you straight to the dim honey-dens for a bit of hedonistic pleasure. (I’m referring to the quiet and sensual original, not “Carnival at Midnight,” which is the Mahogany Hall variation and the version that is on the official OST. I just like the former version better.)
Party:
“Monster Mash” by Bobby Pickett: It would not be a Halloween list without Monster Mash. We’re heading into the party section of the list. The line “Dracula and his son” makes me imagine Alucard sitting in the corner of the castle hall with his back against the stone wall, sipping wine just like his father and watching the festivities with a bored, deadpan expression. Alucard’s not one for parties. I can’t act in-character at this year’s Halloween party, or I would be a terrible hostess.
“Land of the Dead” by Voltaire: I love Voltaire, and this jazzy song from The Grimm Adventures of Billy and Mandy is absolutely perfect for any Halloween party.
“Moon Trance” by Lindsey Stirling: Lindsey’s epic dancing zombies graveyard number. This is the kind of Halloween piece that makes you want to bounce up and down.
“The Night (Deathrock Version)” by Voltaire: This is another Voltaire piece that I like to dance to. Some of the lyrics are a little cheesy, but I see this is as the fun, upbeat, rockin’ version of “Born of the Night.” Same deal, different style! It’s super catchy. Come with me to the other side! Make that girl in black your bride!
“Sympathy for the Devil” (I use the Guns N’ Roses version because it’s the one on the Interview soundtrack): You really can’t go wrong with this one. Especially if you want to stick it to uptight religious dweebs who hate Halloween for being “Satanic.”
“Emperor’s New Clothes” by Panic! At the Disco: If it feels good, tastes good, it must be mine... Want to embrace your inner decadent devil? I do!
“O Fortuna (Carmina Burana)” by Spiritual Project: A remix of O Fortuna that my dance teacher played in class one October. It rocks. It’s probably less “party” and more “evening workout,” though. (Its one song on an album of other Halloween remixes of stuff like “Ghostbusters” and “The Phantom of the Opera”).
“Don’t Go By the River” by Voltaire: It was between this and “When You’re Evil.” As great as that is, I thought this was more upbeat and catchy. And it references Lestat. It’s perfect if you want something Cajun-style.
“Phantom of the Opera” medley by Lindsey Stirling: A new addition this year. This was featured in The Umbrella Academy. It’s so awesome.
“All Souls Night” by Loreena McKennit: Putting the Samhain in All Hallows’ Eve. Brings the list full-circle in that it’s a bit spooky and very Halloweeny, but still fun to dance to. It’s actually pretty cathartic, and it makes me think of cloaked figures in masks dancing with their lanterns on hills. Old-school Halloween!
Believe it or not, I’m actually leaving a lot off. Pretty much everything by Nox Arcana works for Halloween. There’s a lot more Voltaire that I like, too. Lately, I’ve been listening to “Carpe Noctem” from Tanz der Vampire (the original German version, because it’s better), and that is just so dark and sexy and fun to rock out to. You can’t go wrong with “This is Halloween,” of course. I also recommend “Moon Dance” and “Remains of the Day” from Corpse Bride. “The Secret Garden” and “Dark Ritual” by Adrian von Ziegler are both creepy. I could go on and on. If you need music for a specific situation, feel free to ask me!

Arrow 8x09 Brain Dump
It was...not all bad. I really want to like this. I love Mia, William and FTA. I want to enjoy BS like I did in S7. I want to see Dinah written consistently with any kind of actual character. Well, at least my love for FTA is still intact 😂😂
Mia
Kat was brilliant in this episode. Her leading lady really jumped out 😂😂 Her emotional moments hit the mark, and I think she juggled her post-Crisis new life with her old memories brilliantly.
We opened on her waking up in the Queen mansion(!), with a very yummy Diggle Jr in her bed, only it’s JJ not Connor 😱😱 She’s also surrounded by adorable family photos, showing that Oliver got his wish of her and William growing up together (and confirmation that the Olicity Love Cabin still existed!) Basically, she’s living the best life that Oliver could have wished for her, without him in it, of course 😭
Tumblr media
Probably the most notable change in ‘new Mia’ (other than her being infinitely happier and living in a crime-free city) was her social poise. She’s been brought up in Oliver Queen’s old world, and is quite the socialite, only without any of the haughty frivolity that one might expect (I imagine we have Felicity for that 😍). She loves her life and her friends, and she defends them, especially in the face of Laurel, who seemingly does nothing but scoff at her lifestyle for the whole episode 😒 I loved her addressing the press!! That was pure Queen! Maybe the influence of a certain Aunt Thea?
Tumblr media

More below the cut…
Basically this Mia is smart and loving and happy, and Oliver gave her a warm and otherwise full life, save for finding her true purpose (which is gonna be vigilanteing, of course). So of course BS and Dinah rock up and upend it all 😂 I really liked how they made the returning of Mia’s memories a source of conflict, as well they should. It was so brutal to just return them with no preamble, to destroy what happiness Oliver had given back to her, just because, what? BS couldn’t complete her own fucking mission? (More of that later lol) Then Mia standing up to BS when she went as far as to mock Mia’s new world, just gave me life!!!
Tumblr media
Anyway, with her memories restored, and bad guys to track down, of course Mia couldn’t resist her heroic calling and suited up, then proceeded to be the epic badass that we have grown to love.
Tumblr media

I loved seeing her struggle with her memories returning, and the guilt that they brought with them of not living up to Oliver’s legacy. At the same time, she appreciates what Oliver did for her, that all he wanted for his family and the city was to be safe and happy. She ultimately decides to remain the Green Arrow, taking up the guard of her city in her father’s memory, to protect the new world that he sacrificed himself to create.

We’d seen she’d developed her ‘street smarts’ in the flash-forwards, so I think she’ll end up bringing these together with her new social skills, and badass moves, and be an unstoppable force!! Hopefully that will include her old FTA team as well, and not just the two feathered ones 🙄
FTA/JJ
God this needed more FTA.
We got a small amount of William, more of JJ, what with him being Mia’s fiance (!!), and little more than fleeting glances of Zoe (!) and Connor. The disrespect!! 😂
William (who even knows his surname in this new life?) continues to hold my whole heart in his hands 😍😍
Tumblr media
Source: oliverxfelicity
LOOK AT HIM!!!!💗💗💗
He seems to have been least affected in terms of his character, post-crisis. It’s implied that he’s running Smoak Tech, and that he and Mia grew up together and are basically each others’ ride-or-dies 😭😍😭
Tumblr media
I truly hope if the show is picked up, that they increase the William content by a solid 1000% 😂 He brings so much heart and a certain humour and lightness, just like Felicity brought to Arrow, and Ben is such an amazing actor. The new show will need a William. BADLY. He really seems to have his shit together (in the very limited time we have seen him of course 😒), but I’m hoping that that doesn’t lead to Mia keeping her memories from him for long (although remembering who their Dad is, I’m guessing she could take a while 😂😂).
So JJ proposes to Mia at the beginning of the episode!!!! Apparently they are the love of each others lives here. Dig clearly learned from what Connor told him, and steered JJ away from becoming a murdering gangster...YAY! Although it seems that in doing so, our darling boy Connor ran into a few issues of his own 😫😫 It looks like there is no love lost between him and Mia, that he has been in and out of rehab, and is now somewhat of a bad boy 😏😏 But when they first lock eyes there is still definite history and heat there and, just HJJHDFVGDFK 🔥 BACKSTORY IS NEEDED!! Then at the end, JJ has his memories restored by scary-dude-in-cloak (who I was totally hoping would be Dig or Oliver tbh 😂), so I’m super interested to see how he copes with his dual memories!! So now Mia loves JJ, but knows he was evil and killed Zoe, and she hated Connor, but now remembers they had feelings for each other and that he is a beautiful soul, and all the shit is gonna hit the fan!!! I usually hate love triangles, but this is so exciting, with the good boy/bad boy switch up, and then the opposite memories being returned...YAAAAASSSS!! Although I’d like to make it clear that, whilst I’m going to enjoy the drama getting there, I am firmly in the SmoaknHawke end game camp!!
Tumblr media
And as excited as I just got, all of this took up just about 5 mins of screen time 😫😫 It reminds me of what Arrow was lacking in its early episodes...heart and hope. They lucked into it with Felicity/Emily, but they have it here, ready and waiting, and are so far not using it.
Tumblr media
Kat knows what’s what. This is the show we deserve.
Birds
There was a lot of bird action. Apparently in shaping a perfect future, Oliver saw fit that Mia never met BS or Dinah...this is why we stan 😂😂 Dinah has also seemingly been erased from the history books 😬, waking up after Oliver’s funeral (😒😭) 20 years in the future, so naturally becomes a bohemian, opens a bar and sings a lot. Cool, I’d probably do the same 😂😂 Laurel, it seems, went off to spend time with Sara, and has apparently become a solo time-traveller, trying to stop 2041 from becoming a really bad year. Righto.
Dinah was actually ok in this episode, if not hugely out of character, but that in itself has been inconsistent throughout the show, so here’s hoping that the zen-filled peacemaker that she was in this episode continues! Dinah’s new-found peace and bearability seemingly comes at the cost of Laurel being utterly awful. She rocked up in the future like Billy Big Bollocks with a huge chip on her shoulder, just sneering her way through the episode. She had such bitterness, disdain and anger directed towards Mia (and Dinah, at times) for no apparent reason, when they seemed to have somewhat bonded previously?! She spent the majority of the episode sauntering around looking down on everyone, portraying a bitchy-tomboy type, deeming anything vaguely typically feminine or not hard-moody-’badass’ as beneath her. This is not #girlpower. Fuck off.
Then we have that clusterfuck of a scene at the exhibition 🙈🙈 where BS tries to tell Mia that she used to date her Dad, before quickly correcting herself to “some version of him, anyway”, as if they were one and the same 🙄 Laurel’s continual need to imply that she knows, or has history with our Oliver is infuriating as hell. E2 Oliver died on the Gambit in his early 20s. Even if he was similar in character to E1 Oliver up until then, that person bears no likeness to the man he became. Her past with her ‘Ollie’ is entirely irrelevant to the man that was Mia’s father, who she barely even got to know at all save for a couple of episodes in S8. And not only the implication that she knew him, but then to actually try to trash him as well, to his kid?! All to push her idea that all versions of people are the same (which was refuted when JJ doesn’t even turn out to be behind the Deathstroke mask anyhow)? NO! At least Dinah and Mia were cringing along with us 😂
Tumblr media
It’s just astounding, the turnaround they’ve managed with Laurel/BS. They already did the unthinkable in S7 and got a lot of people from this side of the fandom to empathise and warm to her, without pissing off her existing fans. I really did grow to like her in S7 (check my reviews, I still can’t believe it 😂), she was snarky, but not bitchy, and showed some heart and vulnerability. So it’s mind-blowing how they took all that growth and just obliterated it this season, and then even more so in this episode where she is just plain nasty and unlikeable.
I do think, however, that giving BS and Mia a tempestuous relationship from the off was a good idea, cos let’s face it, you can tell there is no love lost between them. But they could have made them clash in a better way than BS just being an arsehole to Mia for most of the episode. My best guess is her anger comes from Mia coming out of Crisis with a life untouched by violence, whilst her earth was still lost? (Was it? I can’t actually remember if E2 came back.) She can’t complete her self-appointed mission on her own and knows she needs Mia’s help to do it?? I don’t know. She had a lot to say about JJ supposedly being a ‘homicidal manic’...pot, kettle much?! She also seemed to find the notion of Mia initially wanting to just appreciate the peaceful life she had been given and not becoming a vigilante reprehensible, but why? BS is the one that needs to atone for past sins. Mia does not.
Stray thoughts
That cliffhanger!!! WHO TOOK OUR WILLIAM?!?!?!
The music was...not good. Especially during the fight scenes. Arrow was always so on-point with its score. I don’t understand how this can be so bad?! I did like hearing Mia’s theme in there, though, that was a nice tie-in the old flash-forwards.
Who is this Kevin that cheated on William? He must be destroyed!😡
Some of that future make-up was really something 😬😬 2040 is all about the severe/dead and unblended looks, apparently. The fashion was fabulous though!
The dialogue in the action scenes was soooo hammy.
Who is the mysterious, villainous “she”???
“Frack you!” and “I’m not interested in joining your Canary club” YAASS MIA 😂
William and Mia’s “pet rock” talk was super cute 😍
Oliver’s statue!! 😭😭😭
Hopes for the future, if series gets picked up:
Increased focus on Mia/FTA. We have such a fresh, interesting, diverse cast, with intertwined back stories ready to go for this show here already, waiting to be used. USE THEM.
A deadly outbreak of avian flu 😂🙊
Failing said outbreak...keep the birds in the background or MAKE THEM LIKEABLE. This is a chance for a clean slate!
I wanna see Papa Dig so bad. David had said we’d get to see 2040 Dig in Arrow, but looks like that isn’t going to happen now, and I’d just love to see how he is. I can also imagine David being entirely done, and not wanting to be a part of this, however, but a cheeky little cameo would be amazing 😂
SmoaknHawke to RISE 🔥🔥🔥
As it stands, I’ll watch if it goes to series, but for how long remains in question. I just know I cannot get on board with the faux feminist “heart/vulnerability/girly is ‘weak’! Let’s be hard/edgy/angry badasses and fight men and show the world we’re strong pow pow pow” narrative that BS in particular, but also the general tone of the show overall, is trying to portray. I really think that if the show is picked up that they should look to see what is working and what is falling flat on its arse. It’s in dire need of more heart and fewer birds imo, but we can have both, if they’d just write them as better people.
Thank you to the beautiful gif-makers 😘 Any uncredited gifs are mine.

Paintball War
Evening guys. Finally had this story out for all of you! I had this planned back in winter and was planned to be a snowball fight then a paintball fight. Reason for the change was winter time last year was very busy for me and since I wanted to write this I changed it to paintball as it was getting warmer outside. I didn't want to leave it till next winter time, so here you go!
It was a glorious spring day and Buddy was making his way to work at Joey Drew Studios. The cool breeze, and the mix of sun and clouds in the sky made this a wonderful day for Daniel “Buddy” Lewek. Buddy turned a corner till he felt a pat on his back. He turned to see his two best friends Jacob and Dot right behind them.
“Morning Buddy.” Dot said with a smile. Buddy smiled seeing his two friends walking alongside him to work. As they walked Dot leaned in towards Jacob. “So you told Buddy about today right?”
Jacob snickered, before giving a laugh. “I forgot, but it would be best to surprise him.”
“Surprise me with what?” Buddy asked.
“Well every so often, Joey likes to plan these special fun days for the workers.” Dot explained.
Buddy raised an eyebrow. “I didn’t know Joey had a fun side?” He asked.
Jacob laughed. “Me either when I started working here.” He added. “But these can be a bit much for you Buddy.”
Buddy scoffed. “I think if I can handle Joey’s shenanigans, Sammy’s constant nagging, I think I’m able to handle it.” He beamed. Jacob snickered before roaring with laughter. Buddy raised an eyebrow wondering how bad this fun day is.
The three made it to the studio, and before Dot could open the door she turned to her friend. “Are you sure you're ready to see this, Buddy?” Dot asked.
“Dot I’ll be fine. What is it that you two are keeping me from knowing?” Buddy asked, frustrated that Jacob and Dot have been leaving him in the dark. Dot looked nervous turning to Jacob, who was smiling and gave a nod. Dot sighed and opened the door, and Buddy’s expression dropped even Buddy dropped his lunch.
Everyone at the studio was moving things around as well as getting guns. Buddy slowly walked in seeing how chaotic everyone was. Dot and Jacob walked towards their friend as Dot put a hand on Buddy’s shoulder. “See,” Dot started turning to Jacob. “This is why you need to tell Buddy ahead of time.” Jacob gave a chuckle in response.
Henry and Wally stopped and smiled seeing the trio. “You three are here.” Henry said. “Come on, there’s no time to waste!” Henry grabbed a hold of Buddy’s hand and took him to the artist hall. Dot and Jacob followed too.
The trio were taken to a dark room, where Wally turned on the light. Buddy was blinded and saw familiar faces in the room, Grant, Thomas, and Ms. Lambert were there ready to battle. “Mr. Stein, what’s going on?” Buddy asked.
“Today. Is the fight of our lives.” Henry said.
“What?” Buddy asked horrified at what Henry just said.
Henry chuckled patting Buddy in the back. “Don’t worry, no one is going to die.” He reassured Buddy. Buddy sighed knowing this fight won’t shed blood. “However, this year Joey will be going down!”
“What’s going on?” Buddy asked, wondering what Henry and the rest of the studio was playing.
Henry turned to his team. “Did anyone tell him?” He asked. The workers shook their heads, making Henry sigh having to explain to the studio gopher. “So every three months Joey holds this battle royale to see which department is the best.” Henry explains.
Buddy was still confused, but got what Henry explained. Joey was Joey and this is how Joey is. “So what is this royale challenge going to be?” Jacob asked.
“The most epic thing I did on Joey’s 18th birthday.” Henry started. “A paintball war.” He said, deepening his voice. Buddy gulped hearing Henry’s serious tone. He rarely heard Henry get serious, and it was usually when he was angry.
Wally was excited for this, even though a paintball war would make a mess, which Wally had to clean up later. The janitor was rather happy about getting into a messy fight. “Why are you excited?” Jacob asked.
“Because I can shoot Sammy for all the trouble he caused me!” Wally responded.
“You mean for the trouble you caused him?” Dot corrected.
Wally chuckled. “Tomato, Potato.” He replied.
After the conversation everyone prepared, grabbing their guns and loading them with paintballs. Buddy was nervously putting paintballs into his gun, but Wally and Jacob were grabbing extras and putting them into their pockets. “Why do you need all those extras?” Buddy asked.
“We’re preparing ourselves for the Target.” Jacob explained.
“The Target?” Buddy asked.
Wally turned to the studio gopher realizing Buddy hasn’t been around long enough. “Oh your new, right.” Wally cleared his throat as he told the story about the Target. “A few years ago, Joey and Henry had their annual water gun fight when a heat wave broke out soon enough a mysterious player came in and we call them the Target. They’re a sniper who targets us and always wins.” He explained. Buddy gulped, afraid at who the Target was, knowing he could be the Target’s next victim.
Jacob laughed and gave Buddy a hard slap on the back, where he could of almost fell. “Don’t worry about it, we’ll protect you Buddy.” Jacob promised. Buddy smiled glad he was protected by his friends. As Buddy was finishing up the trio heard a scream. Buddy, Jacob and Wally dashed and saw Grant and Shawn got hit by none other then Sammy, Jack and Susie.
The Music Department trio high fives each other and were ready to take on the rest of the members till Henry and Wally came to take the music department down. However, they were ambushed by Bendy, Boris and Alice which surprised Wally.
“Bendy? I thought you Alice, and Boris were on our side?” Wally asked.
“Yeah, but Sammy bribed us with donuts so sorry.” Bendy replied shooting Wally in the chest. Jacob glared and tried to shoot at the toons, but because the toons had cartoon abilities they were able to shoot Jacob in seconds.
Buddy gulped as the toons pointed their guns at him. Just before they could shoot the four heard a whistle and soon a hail of paintballs hit the toons. Buddy looked around pointing his gun ready to shoot, but he lowered his gun seeing who it was.
There Buddy saw the Target. The Target wore a black cloak, and a blue eye mask as they pointed their gun. The Target eyed Buddy, but they lowered their gun before disappearing into the shadows. Buddy gulped and ran hoping to hide away from the music department.
Buddy walked around the dark studio taking the stairs instead of the elevator, as he knows someone would wait for him or anyone there. As he walked he heard the paintball shots as well as the screams of his co-workers. Buddy gulped and kept walking having his gun ready to shoot.
Sometimes he heard something, but ended up wasting a paintball over just a sound. Buddy yelped as he saw the Target right in front of him. He shivered as the Target held their gun and was ready to shoot Buddy. Buddy closed his eyes and braced himself ready to be shot by a bunch of paintballs. Buddy heard the gun shoot paintballs, but Buddy opened his eyes not feeling the projectiles hit him. He turned and saw Susie, Sammy and Jack got hit and passed out.
Buddy realized that the Target wasn’t going after him, but after the music department who tried to take down Buddy. “T-thank you.” Buddy thanked the Target, but they were gone. Buddy turned his head wondering where the Target had gone.
Minutes passed. Then hours. It felt like forever since the game started and Buddy had been hiding and walking around not getting hit. “Don’t move.” Buddy froze hearing a familiar voice. Buddy turned and saw Joey with his paintball gun pointed at him.
Buddy turned ready to shoot, but he was scared taking down his boss. However, Joey shoot Buddy in the hand making Buddy drop his paintball gun. Buddy was about to grab it, but heard the gun clock.
“One more move, and your paint splattered, Buddy.” Joey warned. Buddy stood in place shaking as Joey had his gun pointed at him. The gopher and artist of the studio was trapped, he sighed and surrendered to his boss. Joey shot Buddy, paint splattered his body as he collapsed on the floor.
Joey was about to shoot Buddy once more, but the Target reappeared going in between Joey and Buddy. Joey chuckled. “So your this Target I keep hearing ab-” Joey got cut off when he got shot with a paintball gun on the head. The Target shoot a few more paintballs, before Joey ran and passed out just a couple steps away.
The Target put their paintball gun down and went over to Buddy to shake him awake. Buddy opened his eyes and saw the Target right in front of him. Buddy jumped back shocked to see the Target right in front of his face. The Target shushed him to not make any noise before walking away slowly.
Buddy was left confused wondering why the Target spared him. Two hours later, the game ended and everyone was covered in paint. Buddy helped Wally clean up the art room to give Wally a head start with him cleaning the studio the rest of the night.
“Hey Dot!” Dot stopped working and turned to see Buddy at the entrance to the writer’s room. “Going to join us at the bar tonight?” He asked.
Dot smiled. “Sure am, but are you going to show up covered in paint?” She chuckled.
Buddy chuckled and back and shook his head. “No. Going to get home shower and will make my way there.” He explained. Soon Buddy spotted something on Dot’s desk. It was a blue handkerchief right next to her typewriter. Then it hit Buddy he looked at his friend Dot who giggled and gave a wink before focusing at her work.
Buddy just smiled, Dot is always filled with secrets and the Target was one of them.

reaction post typed while watching SPN 14x05 “Nightmare Logic”
oh, what a perfectly soft and emotional Destiel-parallelly piece of Meredith Glynn artwork. so precious, so loved~
03:47pm
things i know about this: meredith glynn wrote it
LET’S WATCH
-
03:50
noooo maggie don’t do things like this alooooone
-
i like the music as she enters... kinda weird and sparkly and awkward
-
03:53
sammy...... you know what you need
someone to do the night shift
if only...... you had.............. someone else........................
*looks pointedly at dean*
-
03:55
where does sam get the financial resources for shit like body cams
we never see them running credit card scams any more so........ ???????
-
03:57
i love these cable things by the roads
Tumblr media
so aesthetic
-
03:58
even more spooky pretty music as dean and sam enter the tomb
-
03:59
dean and sam lie so effortlessly and so in sync
i always enjoy seeing them do this, ever since dean told a firefighter he needed to go back into his apartment because he has a yorkie who pees when he’s nervous
-
04:01
aw man i thought the “colleagues” would be cas and jack
bobby and mary’s cool too
-
04:02
bobby’s wearing a cap like michael’s
and mary’s wearing a coat like cas’
..does this mean this story’s gonna be about dean’s war between those two things, like the two worlds he knows
bobby’s parenting vs. mary’s parenting
michael’s need for him as a vessel vs. cas’ love for him as a bestest buddy bro friend
not sure how bobby = micheal / mary = cas but i’m sure there’ll be some kind of explanation later
OR maybe they’re just costumes and they mean nothing
but......is that ever true? trenchcoats are automatically a cas thing now. and that cap is so iconic as michael now???
-
04:09
i relate to this lady in the suit who has had Too Much Of Everything
i enjoy seeing people know their limits and expressing them to others rather than continuing past breaking point
sam’s doing great but also....... no
take a page from this lady’s book, sammy
-
04:11
mary’s walking with sam
and i just wanna take a minute to appreciate how EASY meredith glynn’s episodes are to watch
her scripts flow so gently and everything makes logical sense
and her characters are coherent
there’s just this nice touch of emotional human realism cloaking all the supernatural weirdness and i so, so appreciate that
like.. for me personally, there’s not a single writer on the current team whose writing comes close to glynn’s
i want her to write more episodes with cas though, i know she’d write him just right
i honestly feel like i’m being hugged by someone as i watch this
so soft around my heart
is good
-
04:16
sam: “you [and bobby have] gotten pretty close lately”
mary: “i thought so too”
OH WAIT I GET IT
I GET THE COAT AND THE HAT NOW
IT’S A DESTIEL THING
OH MY FUCKING GOD HOW DID I MISS THAT
IT’S SO BLINDINGLY OBVIOUS HOLY FUCKING FUCKDISAFKDSHGF
even the casual viewers will probably have noticed this one. i know it took me a second but as soon as this discussion happened it clicked
this is probably the most obvious parallel they’ve ever done i think
i didn’t see it before because i didn’t EXPECT it, you know?? ugh this is so validating
-
04:22
now every word mary says, i’m just envisioning how it applies to cas’ perspective too
“he’s been hunting all the time, he won’t take a break even for a second. there’s something on his mind”
yeah, that mICHEAL HAT, quite literally sitting over his head like a dark halo
-
04:26
the music in this episode is just so pleasing to my ears
-
04:31
things i appreciate:
normal people being all “wtf you hunt monsters” and just being present while dean and sam talk about their shit
sam’s reference to “hunteri heroici” (my all-time fave episode besides “scoobynatural” jdgd that was five years ago what the hell)
-
04:35
me: takes screenshot of this very pretty, very anxious lady because i want my hair to do what her hair does
Tumblr media
-
04:36
oop we just found the dean mirror and now we get to hear someone talk about the things he feels and offer advice that ultimately helps himself
god i love this
AND THE FACT I CAN UNDERSTAND THIS PARALLEL AND WHY IT’S HAPPENING
AGAIN SOLIDIFIES THE DEAN/CAS THING WITH BOBBY/MARY
because what mary said about bobby = what cas thinks about dean = what’s true about dean = this lady being overworked = dean not taking time off from hunting
(although it does seem to specifically apply to sam as well ?)
and sam mentioned earlier about how the dad he knew and the dad mary knew were different people, plus the earlier mentions this season about john’s problematic parenting (i forget when)
yeah that really makes a point of saying john abused his kids, for sure
-
lady: “he was gone all the time, working for us, he said”
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
-
lady: “i worshipped him when i was a kid. didn’t know any better”
oh deanie
please take notes
please know it’s okay to be angry at john and not continue to love him in a way that excuses his behaviours, even 14 years after he died
-
wait wait wait
dean tells her to let it go, it’s the past, there’s nothing you can do about it now so it’s just baggage
WAIT
THAT MEANS
THAT MEANS HE LET THAT SHIT GO ALREADY???????
WHOA
OKAY COOL. COOL COOL COOL I’M PROUD OF YOU
now go be gay with cas
-
“i try. every single day.”
hell yeah dean winchester giving good mental health advice to people and also millions of depressed people with various traumas watching this
ngl this legit just helped me a tiny bit with my issues with my own dad
urhgutguugb meredith glynn you are the good we need in this world
..............suddenly getting real emotional because goddamn i wanna meet her someday ;~; i wanna meet 1. misha and 2. meredith glynn, maaaaybe 3. jensen idk
mEREDITH GLYNN IS MY KINDRED SPIRIT
and DEAN WINCHESTER HELPS ME BE A MORE SELF-ACCEPTING PERSON
yay
-
04:49
no but like.......... everyone seemed to enjoy last week’s episode, i only saw people posting good reviews. and i felt bad not not enjoying it, even though all the things people pointed out should’ve been right up my alley, something about the overall thing just fell flat for me
but this one
this one speaks to my heart
-
04:53
maggie: “i didn’t mean to get caught--”
sam: “no no no, stop that. you did nothing wrong. okay?”
sam being a better dad to maggie than john ever was to anyone
-
04:57
OH NO BOBBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!
-
05:01
dean: “you’re giving him transfusions?”
nurse: “keeps up his iron”
suddenly i don’t trust the nurse
trying to take over the property maybe? a la scooby-doo, it’s always about real estate
-
05:02
dean: “sasha, could you go....... make me a ....sandwich ?”
DEAN NO
(i type, in pain, as i laugh)
-
/rewatches that interaction because it was actually really sweet the way dean mouthed “go” to sasha and she understood
-
05:05
i’ve wanted a djinn story for SO LONG
(even wrote one myself - Prince of the Ether Realms)
trust glynn to be the one to re-weave the exact threads of this 14-year saga that also interest me specifically
also kudos for the fact she’s so obviously knowledgeable about the ENTIRE HISTORY of the show, as opposed to certain other writers who seem to contradict previous facts and re-reference things that were used differently before to make an important point, thereby nullifying the first point when used a second time
-
05:11
Tumblr media
hunter with the shaved head 10/10 style
headcanoning them as non-binary and into girls because of reasons
also there was a slight continuity error, this hunter hugs maggie twice in the two consecutive shots
-
05:15
bobby: “it ends the same” [with bobby dead, i guess?]
mary: “no. you are not allowed to give up on me”
Tumblr media
seeing this as dean and cas again
yeah i saw someone mention how at the end of last episode, dean suggesting they drive off a cliff and sam being like NOPE kind of reflected the wrongness of the they-all-die-at-the-end for the finale of SPN
and i think this brings it back to that again
i agree that the best ending is the one where they live to fight another day, not go out guns a-blazing
and this is cas telling dean he’s not allowed to give up and die because he wants to live side-by-side for as long as they can
i just really really want cas to say that to dean in a soft emotional scene like this. we don’t really get those unless they’re parallels??? and i wANT MORE DEAN AND CAS TALKING ABOUT THEIR FEELINGS DAMMIT
-
05:20
DEAN AND CAS PARALLELS um i mean BOBBY AND MARY GOING OFF TO HANG OUT ALONE IN A CABIN OF LOVE AND HEALING
GDI LET DEAN AND CAS DO THAT TOO
but also awwww i actually kinda like the mary/bobby thing? because at the core, they ARE dean and sam’s parents, really
family don’t end with blood etc
bobby was the dad john never was
-
05:23
sam: USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM
this is so satisfying
next up: hula hoops of salt and iron knuckle-dusters
-
05:25
i love love love that dean can have a healthy mental approach to this shit, finally
i’m so fucking proud of him you don’t even know
i just......... i really wanna see him not only return to baseline mental goodness, but then overcome that and become greater at his zen thing, and then AT LAST be ready to accept cas’ love for what it is: romantic and everlasting and epic, and not have to interpret it into something else or ignore it to protect himself
-
05:28
that light over dean’s shoulder is the angel on his shoulder
but is it michael or cas?
i’m going with cas, given that michael is a dark-hat-halo
Tumblr media
-
05:30pm
it’s over
that was amaziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing ;u;
bless meredith glynn for existing and bringing us such beautiful stories
BUT WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE GARDENER
WHY WAS HE THERE besides to ~add some colour~??? and i guess a red herring for viewers, so we have someone to suspect?
(idk. i never suspected him, because he was black and meredith glynn is better than that - unless she was trying to trick racist viewers?? (i know there's a lot of them, i saw the super-toxic comment section on instagram when jared, jensen and misha posted a “vote beto” thing the other day. and there was a poll mentioned at comic con once, half the american spn fanbase are republicans??? guess they really love guns and fascism))
i don’t really have anything to add here, i said it all as i went along
that dean/cas parallel....... oh boy
just please please please pleASE can we have Actual Destiel and not just parallels and hints. like. they barely talk???????? HOW IS THIS A SHOW WHERE TWO OF THE MAIN LEADS ARE CONSTANTLY FRAMED TO BE IN LOVE, WE’RE TOLD THEY’RE BEST FRIENDS, BUT WE ALMOST NEVER EVEN SEE THEM TOGETHER ANY MORE
HOW IS THIS HAPPENING
anyway the costuming was just so very UNSUBTLE and obvious and i think a lot of people would’ve caught that parallel even if they weren’t looking for it
music was good, directing was good, sasha’s hair was good, nobody we know actually died, that was good too
10/10
ten thumbs up
yeee

Video
youtube
I was at the movies. This trailer looked interesting. Other highlights were hearing Somebody to Love in another trailer and also a bit of Freddie singing in a Coca-Cola ad. A tad odd since I watched Elvis, well, an actor lacking his charm, smirk, humour and sexiness while sporting very white teeth (I thought those were out of fashion now) and distractingly cartoonish lips, not sure if he had cheekbones either (those lips were so lippy), trying to wiggle his hips convincingly. As if any idiot couldn’t have told that it’s the gorgeous smile with the prominent cheekbones and all that should’ve been mimicked first and foremost.
Anyways, it was another misery tale, very much like Bohemian Rhapsody, and Tom Hanks was doing a voice that sounded even more awkward than Rami Malek's whiny Freddie. This Parker just wasn't believable. Nobody would buy a used car from him because of the voice alone. And all that boring talk about snow. Maybe it was meant to have a meaning. But please just shut up and concentrate on the music and maybe show a bit more of Elvis' private life. Make a separate movie about Parker. Could actually be interesting.
The best performance in this movie was Tutti Frutti. Not by Austin Butler as Elvis. Lol, what's with shoving in all those other artists? Poor Elvis, a third rate copy of others. Was that the idea? If so, why not make a biopic of the genuine original performers instead of the poor, miserable copycat? Well, judging by this movie, the highlight of Elvis’ career was fighting for his right to move in a certain way. Okay?
Also finally saw Doctor Strange. I think it was too much for my ability to concentrate and comprehend. I mean, there was a woman who wanted to be a mother but instead of getting children of her own, she stole somebody else's, although it looked like the same actress in both roles. I don't get it. More bafflingly, how was she the villain of the movie and the whole point of the multiverse travelling? Some woman wanting kids? Lol, they really have run out of interesting villains. Well, at least it was different.
The actress gave me soap star vibes, at least until she had to play a sort of zombie. That was funny. Especially the weird underground chase scene with Strange & co stopping to wait for her next move. What was the idea? To build up tension? Moronic. Anyways, couldn't give two shiny shits about who got the kids and what happened to the characters. Just as indifferent as about the latest Bond with its poutyface and her daughter. Speaking of which, 007 made an appearance, and I haven't a clue why. Patrick Stewart was there too, trapped inside a yellow high chair, which was fun. The word illuminati was fun too. So many clumsy jokes, though I did laugh at the cloak trying to wake up Strange. And at the third eye. Not sure if it was meant to be funny. The post credits joke was the worst. So embarrassing. I don't even get why Strange did that to a random guy in the first place. Not cool.
I didn't find America and her relationship with Strange as annoying as I had feared. Except for Strange calling her a kid all the time. Couldn't he remember her name? Aren’t Americans supposed to be inserting each other’s names everywhere? Also, you'd think she'd wanted to find her mums with that power of hers but apparently she couldn't control it. Until she suddenly inexplicably could, and still didn't fuck off to find them. Really? But since I don’t know anything about her and the mums, I guess I wasn’t expected to mind.
Not enough of both Benedicts together, but I was kind of prepared for that. Here's a better movie: multiversions of Strange (I liked the ones I saw) and both Benedicts having an epic adventure together trying to deal with them and travelling in different universes. Skip the extra characters. Or if you must, make Benedicts help America find her mums. Wouldn’t even writers with little imagination have thought that more worthy a mission than a story about random woman’s confusion about motherhood?
I quite like Christine. Don't know why she got married. Who is that husband of hers? Maybe it’s been explained in one of those TV shows I haven't seen. Did he even say/do anything? What was the point of having him there? Well, they got to show a church full of a very diverse set of people. Even more diverse than at that hidey hole where everybody was prepared for an epic battle against that one wannabe mother. I think they lost too. Well, nobody in the movie cared, so why should I? But shouldn’t America at least have realised that the sparkles are useless? Become a mother instead.

Down By The Docks
Year 33
The midsummer sun beat down upon Silvermoon’s marble towers and soaked into the grandly sculptured buildings, reflecting in all directions from the top of the spires in a blinding dazzle. Most citizens sat outside or strolled around the gardens, cooling themselves with large, elaborate fans and sipping fine wine from goblets. Children chased one and other around the fountains, dipping their toes in the refreshing water and splashing their companions in jest. The Legion’s defeat had hailed much celebration: lavish feasts of the finest meats: tender boar, juicy deer, seasoned fish were served with piles of fresh vegetables and rich desserts were never ending among the party goers, and barrels expensive ale were constantly rolled out to pour toasts. Silvermoon had a full fortnight of festivities: with music and dancing accompanied by fireworks every evening well into the witching hour. Banjos, lutes and drums played merry tunes until the musicians’ fingers were stiff and Sin’dorei of every class danced until their feet were sore. Now was a time of limbo. Druids of both Horde and Alliance had been set the task of healing forests and fields from the demonic taint; priests held the responsibility of nursing the injured and consecrating land to bury the dead; warriors given the job of rallying and accounting for the remaining forces. Tradesmen across Azeroth worked to supply areas that had been deprived of resources and ensure old contracts for goods remained intact, coming in by horse, zeppelin and ship. Ronyl sat by the docks in peaceful solitude, watching the trade ships that had made their way from Booty Bay steady and tie up their ships to the pier.
Her return to her birth city had been far more welcoming than anticipated. She feared her blindfold that hid scarred eyes and curved demon-like horns would cause uneasiness among her people, but to her surprise she was welcomed as a hero alike her comrades. Nevertheless, she adorned herself with a large hooded cloak to disguise her more unconventional attributes. “I want to feel normal”, she told herself as she swept the cape around her shoulders, “I want to be Sin’dorei, not a shadow of the illisar”. She clung to the edge of its material for comfort as she gazed out on the horizon. The glorious sun’s rays kissed the distant seascape, leaving a glistening glow along the waves. The giant ships had been docked up and Ronyl beheld the designs. Most were Horde: spikey metallic-like bodies and a scarlet red flag bearing its symbol boldly, but some ships came from neutral human and night elf parties; curved décor engraved in the oak or purple coated strips upon the side. Each and every one had vast sails flowing in the breeze, allowing the vessel to glide across waters with haste. One in particular had caught Ronyl’s eye. Maybe the biggest ship she’d seen aside from warships, it floated in place with a certain manner of majesty. She studied the intricate work that made to have been conducted by others labouring for hours upon hours to complete, from nailing the planks to create a gun port to polishing the finish of the bow and fixing the stern onto the deck. Alike the human ships, it also bore adornments of cravings in swirling designs and upon the front was a sculpture of a siren, flowing hair and tail curled to the side. “A piece of art”, Ronyl thought.
“Are you admiring my body?”
Ronyl blinked, startled, and went a shade of pale red. She hadn’t noticed a figure leaning against the very front of the ship, tying a rope to the side. A Sin’dorei like her, the female was clad in dull leathers that brought out the autumn orange shade of her locks and gold glow of her eyes. Her hair reminded Ronyl of the gorgeous colour of the leaves that embellished the trees of Eversong Woods, and her irises seemed to be set with Deadly Amberblaze. She was taller than the demon hunter; Ronyl would probably be able to rest her chin on her shoulders perhaps. Two sizable blades hung from her belt, sharpened and glinting. She gave a small smirk as she stared back at Ronyl’s eyesthat were wide in surprise.
“My boat,” the elf gestured towards the ship she leant against, “Isn’t she a beauty?”
Ronyl breathed a sigh of relief and let the embarrassment release with the exhale. She gave a small nod in response. The elf slung the rope onto the deck and made her way to Ronyl, sitting beside her on the bank and reaching out an arm, initiating a handshake.
“Siggis,” She introduced herself. Ronyl returned the shake.
“Ronyl.” Siggis glanced down, the shake revealing the neon tattoos etched on Ronyl’s forearm.
“I don’t know many elves with tattoos,” She remarked. Ronyl shrugged, still a little flushed from her shy demeanour. “You were in the war,” Siggis continued. Ronyl turned to give her a confused expression. “I’ve seen many like you. They come our way for travel or trade. You all have a look.” Ronyl continued her silence, only replying with a few blinks and observing sailors from Siggis’ ship emerged from the cabin’s doors, rolling out more barrels, presumably headed to restock the city’s pantries after parties drained the food and drink. Siggis leaned forward to meet the direction of her gaze. “Chatty one, aren’t you?” Ronyl’s mouth turned into a small smile.
“I like to listen. I came to listen to the waves and the busy of trade.”
“That’s good,” Siggis laughed, “because I like to talk.”
And talk Siggis did as she laid back and chatted to the quiet Ronyl about how she had come with her trade ship to Silvermoon from Booty Bay, where she resided. She told a tale or two that made Ronyl’s mouth drop: tales of pirate battles and sea monsters. Unsure of the truthfulness of the sagas, Ronyl was nevertheless entranced by her talent of retelling campfire-like stories. When she began, the noon sun was high in the sky, but now it was sinking lower and lower, gradually setting in the horizon and darkening Silvermoon. After a couple of epic adventures being relived, Siggis turned to Ronyl, curiosity lacing her eyes.
“You’re a little war hero aren’t you, must have quite a few tales.” Ronyl shifted with discomfort.
“I want to be normal. Staying as quiet as a mouse. Normal. Not a war hero.” Siggis studied her stern expression for a moment before shrugging.
“Each to their own, mouse girl.” A bellow rang out across the docks, instructing all tradesmen and sea dwellers to make their way back to their vessels for the nights journey home. Siggis got to her feet, brushing grass off her hides. “It seems my captain is calling.”
“Captain? Aren’t you the captain?” Siggis laughed.
“No, and that’s not my ship… but if I tell enough people then maybe one day I’ll have my own and captain it myself.”
“That sounds like a big adventure.”
“Perhaps I’ll come back with my own ship, and you could join me for that adventure, mouse girl.”
Ronyl continued to sit as Siggis leapt aboard the ship and let down the magnificent sails to flutter in the wind. As the crew disappeared into the sea’s limitless span, Ronyl wondered if and when she would see the mysterious elf aboard it again.
*Illisa: “Enemy”, a Darnassian word but I couldn’t find an Thalassian alternative.
Siggis belongs to @ratboy-sadboy.

15 Best Castlevania Monsters and Bosses Ranked
https://ift.tt/3F1aUOS
Few series have been more resilient than Castlevania. The first few games in the franchise were fairly standard 8-bit platformers (albeit with a unique horror vibe), but over time, entries in this series became less linear and more about exploration, eventually helping to inspire a whole new subgenre: “Metroidvania.” While the 3D Castlevania games never quite reached the same heights as those earlier titles, they’re still excellent (maybe even underrated) experiences in their own right.
Regardless of your favorite Castlevania, I think we can all agree that the series has given us some of the coolest enemies around. From new takes on horror icons like Dracula and Frankenstein’s monster, to more original creations like skull towers and flea men, the Castlevania series is filled with monsters and bosses that brilliantly pay homage to this series’ genre roots while establishing a legacy of their own even if they already enjoy one elsewhere.
In honor of the 35th anniversary of the first Castlevania game, here is our look are the absolute best monsters and bosses to come out of this classic series.
15. Zombies – Castlevania
Essentially Castlevania’s equivalent of Super Mario’s goombas, zombies are the very first enemy you meet in the original game. While they don’t pose much threat on their own, but can get incredibly annoying if they manage to gang up on you from all sides.
Zombies have become a series mainstay (they appearing in some form in almost every Castlevania), but their first appearance is arguably still the best. These zombies are just rotting corpses in tattered cloaks with the singular purpose of doing as much damage as possible, and it’s easy to love them for their memorable simplicity.
14. Giant Ape Skeleton- Castlevania 64/Legacy of Darkness
The N64 version of Castlevania remains divisive due to a questionable camera and controls, but there’s no denying that the opening moments are among the most memorable in the series. As either Carrie or Reinhardt approach Dracula’s castle, they approach a large gate and are immediately confronted by a towering skeleton wielding a bone as a club.
Taking place just a few minutes into the game, this is ultimately an easy boss fight that sets the tone for a much more cinematic Castlevania experience than the 2D games that came before. Though giant skeletons have popped up in other Castlevania games, none of those encounters have been nearly as memorable.
13. Medusa- Castlevania: Lament of Innocence
Medusa heads have been a constant annoyance for the Belmonts since the very first Castlevania game, but the series’ spin on the mythical monster doesn’t really take center stage until she appears as a full-on boss in the criminally underrated Lament of Innocence.
Admittedly, this Medusa doesn’t put up much of a fight, but the giant, floating head makes for an especially cool looking battle, especially once the snakes on her head continually lash out and she starts flinging stones at Leon.
12. Bone Pillars- Castlevania (Various)
Bone pillars are another example of how Castlevania games can make simple ideas really cool. Basically just two dinosaur skulls on top of each other that shoot fireballs in opposite directions, bone pillars have evolved with the series over the years, expanding their repertoire of attacks to include giant spike balls and even laser beams.
The pillars rarely prove to be much of a challenge for any Castlevania protagonist, but they’ve become so iconic that it’s hard to imagine a game without them.
11. Cockatrice- Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
The first few Castlevania games were heavily inspired by classic horror movies, but as the series evolved, Konami dived deeper into folklore from all over the world to find some obscure, yet awesome, legendary creatures. The legend of the cockatrice (a chicken egg hatched by a toad) sounds ridiculous at first, but a couple of encounters make it clear that this giant chicken creature is no joke. The cockatrice’s ability to turn Soma Cruz into a stone statue gets annoying fast.
While the cockatrice makes for a fearsome enemy in Aria of Sorrow, it’s an even better ally in Circle of the Moon where you can summon the beast to pummel enemies with boulders.
10. Julius Belmont- Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
Aria of Sorrow took a lot of risks with the Castlevania formula by moving the setting to the future (which also meant incorporating modern weapons like handguns) and forgoing the traditional Belmont protagonist for a leading man who may turn out to be the new incarnation of Dracula. It all results in one of the best and most innovative games in the series.
Among one of Aria of Sorrow’s cooler surprises is a boss fight with 21st-century vampire hunter Julius Belmont. Julius’ attacks are exactly what you would expect from a Belmont. He largely focuses on using whip attacks from his trusty Vampire Killer weapon but mixes things up with sub-weapons like axes and holy water. It’s a fun treat for fans to finally see how they’d fare against a legendary vampire hunter after playing as the Belmonts for so long.
9. Satan- Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
When Dracula is usually the main antagonist of the Castlevania series, how do you dream up an even bigger threat for him to face in a game where it turns out that you’ve been playing as Dracula all along? As Dana Carvey’s Church Lady character used to as on SNL, “Could it be Satan?”
The final battle of Lords of Shadow is an epic and challenging one-on-one against the Lord of Lies in a fittingly hellish arena that leads into one of the better recent twists in gaming history. That alone makes it the best 3D Castlevania game to date.
8. Death- Castlevania
Dracula’s number two has been a constant source of frustration for Castlevania players. Seriously, the boss fight against him in the first title might be the most difficult in the entire game, and he’s only slightly easier in many subsequent titles. But hey, it’s death incarnate, so what do you expect?
Death’s appearance has changed little over the years. He’s mostly been portrayed as a scythe-wielding skeleton in a cloak, but he’s also always been a fearsome foe who has even displayed an odd bit of respect toward the Belmonts. That quality alone makes him one of the more unique recurring foes in the mythos.
7. Merman- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Mermen don’t make a ton of sense, even in the fantastical world of Castlevania. Why does Dracula always have such a massive sewer in his castle? Could mermen even really live anywhere else? They seem pretty content to only hang out down there, which seems kind of weird, even by Castlevania’s standards.
Anyway, the mermen haven’t changed all that much since their first appearance in the original Castlevania. Since they’re heavily inspired by the iconic design of The Creature From the Black Lagoon, there also hasn’t been much reason to fix what isn’t broken. They remain an iconic enemy in the franchise, mostly known for posing a little more threat than the typical zombie while adding a little bit of variety to the castle setting and probably not smelling that great.

Castlevania: A Dracula Masterpiece 90 Years in the Making
By Matthew Byrd
6. Slogra and Gaibon- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
For the record, Gaibon is the gargoyle and Slogra is the thing that looks like a pterodactyl’s skin stretched over a human skeleton. They first appeared in Super Castlevania IV as endgame bosses Simon Belmont fought separately, but they teamed up in Symphony of the Night as Alucard’s first real challenge inside Dracula’s castle.
The designs alone are really creative (especially Slogra), and they looked particularly impressive at the dawn of the 32-bit console generation. Of course, graphics have improved quite a bit since then, but it’s still just plain cool to watch Gaibon pick up Slogra and repeatedly try to drop him on Alucard.
5. Legion- Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance
Castlevania enjoyed something of a resurgence in the 2000s, with a string of excellent portable entries that are still among the best Metroidvanias ever made. Harmony of Dissonance might be one of the weakest of those games due to its unusually low difficulty and NES-quality music, but it did make up for it with some especially impressive visuals.
Appearing in two different forms, Legion looks especially intimidating in Harmony’s brighter graphics engine. The first form is the classic ball of bodies, this time held aloft by six angelic wings, while Legion’s second form is a giant ball covered in a shell of bones. Like most Harmony of Dissonance enemies, Legion doesn’t pose much of a challenge, but it’s especially fun seeing Juste Belmont slowly chip away at the giant creature.
4. Beelzebub- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Beelzebub is another Castlevania boss that isn’t necessarily the most challenging, but his unique design earns him a high spot on this list. Like something out of a nightmare, or at least a Hellraiser movie, Beelzebub is a giant rotting corpse hanging by hooks. Incapable of attacking Alucard himself, he instead dispatches waves of buzzing flies that you have to fend off while dismantling him piece by piece.
While most Castlevania monsters are firmly rooted in folklore or classic horror movies, Beelzebub remains an especially impressive example of how the series can sometimes put its own stamp on more modern horror designs.
3. Dragon Zombies- Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
Castlevania did the whole undead dragon thing years before Game of Thrones, and this franchise’s take on that concept was significantly more awesome. Dragon zombies have actually shown up in a few games, but Circle of the Moon ups the ante by throwing a pair of them at you simultaneously. The left dragon spews fireballs at you, while the right spits out balls of electricity.
It’s a real pain of a fight, and when you finally take out one of the dragons, the other one regains a bunch of health by feeding on the corpse of its fallen companion. Years later, this remains one of the best, and most difficult, boss fights in any Castlevania game.
2. Chaos- Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
The true source of Dracula’s power makes for one of the most graphically interesting boss fights in the franchise. The idea of “Chaos” as an enemy isn’t new in video games, but in Aria of Sorrow, Chaos has two forms. First, Soma fights it as three demonic statues circle around the screen. When they go down, Chaos reveals itself as a simple black orb defended by four projectile shooting eyes and a massive skeletal dragon. It’s a nonstop kaleidoscopic feast for the eyes that resembles, well…chaos.
Aria of Sorrow is arguably the one other Metroidvania that comes closest to matching (or even exceeding) the greatness of Symphony of the Night, and a lot of that is due to its fantastic creature design. This incredible design contributes to Chaos’ status as one of the best boss battles in the series. Still, Chaos isn’t the greatest threat the Belmonts and company have faced…
1. True Dracula- Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
Of course, Dracula had to be number one on the list. The eternal quest to slay him is the entire reason the Castlevania series exists. Which Dracula to pick, though? After all, there have been a lot of great final confrontations with the head bloodsucker over the years. For a lot of gamers, the final battle in Super Castlevania IV is especially iconic, but it also doesn’t hold many surprises.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
In Portrait of Ruin, Dracula first mixes things up by attacking with Death at his side. That’s pretty neat on its own, but after you’ve seemingly dealt with both of them, they merge into True Dracula: a giant demonic bat creature that fights with heavy stomps and screen-filling attacks. Just the design alone is way more impressive than the typical tall, pale guy in a cape. You have to pull out all the stops to beat True Dracula, making for what’s easily the best and most epic encounter in the entire franchise.

Saw Great Comet yesterday (7-30-17), and I just wanted to share some of my experience with you guys! I was sitting in the rear mezz, which I highly recommend!
*I'mma skip over a lot of the main details just because they’ve already been covered, but I’ll try to include things that were particular to this show/not often talked about.
“Prologue”
• There’s a little vignette right before the show starts where Andrey is leaving for war, and it begins with Natasha screaming the most heartbreaking no you’ve ever heard in ur life. • When Oak came out, there was thunderous applause. Like, it went on for at least a full minute. I was so happy. • Also, hearing that first accordion note reduced me to tears bc I’m sensitive™.
“Pierre”
• So lemme talk about Oak’s voice real quick. Someone noted that it’s this perfect blend between Groban’s smoothness and Malloy’s roughness, and I have to wholeheartedly agree. It’s absolutely beautiful. He’s a beautiful Pierre. • Also, he plays Pierre with a lot of melancholy. It’s almost as though he’s always on the verge of tears. • “He’s charming; he has no sex.” While the ladies are skipping around him, Hélène is conducting them, and it’s hilarious. • “I pity you. I pity me. I pity you.” — Oak sings these lines so gutturally. His agony echoes off the very walls of the Imperial. • “Pierre” received a long applause as well.
“Moscow”
• GRACE MCLEAN DESERVED TO BE NOMINATED FOR A TONY AWARD!1! HOLY CRAP. HER VOCALS BRING THE HOUSE DOWN!!!!!!! • The moment she belts her first lines, you know exactly what kind of personality Marya D. has, and that’s a tribute to her actress. Srsly. • During the song, Marya will sometimes act maternally to Sonya, but the moment Natasha comes back into sight, she’ll roughly push Sonya away, and it’s hilarious. • Natasha’s humming is absolutely heartbreaking. It’s one of the many moments in the musical when you realize how young she is.
“The Private and Intimate Life of the House”
• There were understudies for both Mary and Bolkonsky/Andrey, Courtney Bassett and Ken Clark respectively. They were wonderful. Ken’s performance especially stood out to me. • “People enjoy me, though…” Before he sang these lines, he held eye contact with a person across from him for, like, five seconds, and it was incredibly funny. (Same goes for him patting his wig and powder flying into the air.) • “BRING ME MY SLIPPERS! YES, FATHER. YES, FATHER. BRING ME MY WIIIIIIIIIIIIINE.” • The audience interaction in this one is A+. Mary’s suitor and Bolkonsky’s cheap French thing draw huge laughs from the crowd. • “They are there upon his head.” I’ve seen a few posts where people lament that the audience laughs at this line, but I truly think it’s supposed to be laughed at. Mary is kind of coy when she says it, like she’s laughing at it herself. After that, though, her mood dips, slowly sinking into this utterly palpable reproach. • The audience was completely silent. • While she’s singing her final lines, Bolkonsky is slowly making his way back to his chair, and your heart shatters as you watch. He’s clutching his back and using the railing for support. When he finally collapses in his chair, he kinda puts his head in his hands.
“Natasha and the Bolkonskys”
• Towards the beginning of the song, Natasha and Mary hoist chairs over their heads and join a table of people on stage. It’s hilarious. They really milk the awkwardness of the moment. • “Constrained and strained” is so frickin’ good. When Courtney and Denée sing it, it’s really low and creepy. • “Says the mean, old man in his underthings” drew huge laughs, especially bc of Bolkonsky’s hand movements. He kept gesturing towards his entire body.
“No One Else”
• Honest to God, I could write essays on how perfect Denée Benton and her performance of this song is. She emotes so beautifully. Her voice, her movements, her facial expressions all come together to create Natasha, a young, lost girl who wants nothing more than to see Andrey again. • I cried (obviously). • The blue light is absolutely gorgeous in this song. (The blue light is meant to be the moon.) • At one point, Andrey shows up, and snow begins to lightly fall on him. He reads one of Natasha’s letters, brings it to his lips tenderly before walking away, and just behind him, almost able to reach him, is Natasha, her face the perfect picture of despair. • Denée Benton. • The applause after this song was long and well-deserved.
“The Opera”
• Just for the record, songs like this one, “The Duel”, and “The Abduction"—where all of the cast members are out—are absolutely electric. The energy is incredible. • “The opera, the opera…” Marya D. belts these lines so loudly, lololol. • On one side, you can spot Heath Saunders as one of the opera goers, and lemme just tell you guys, that long, black coat suits him. • “Hélène and Dolokhov arm-in-arm…” They aren’t so much arm-in-arm as they are passionately making out on stage. Omg. I love them. • “Noooo, I’m enjoying myself this evening.” Pierre pumps his fist and smiles this absolutely giddy smile. • When Marya sees that Natasha is talking to Hèlène, she runs up and pushes Nat behind her. • To indicate that the “curtain rises,” some of the light bulbs retract. It’s a cool effect. • I know the literal opera part of the song sounds incredibly weird on the recording, but in person, it’s more hilarious than you’d think. The actors are doing ridiculous things and making animalistic noises, lol. • When it’s over, the spotlight turns to Natasha and Sonya. Sonya’s asleep, lolololololol. • Right before Anatole comes in and around the time Natasha begins to “pass into a state of intoxication”, she hallucinates Andrey being injured during the war. The two circle each other around Pierre’s salon, simply gazing into each other’s eyes, and it’s intense. • Anatole’s entrance is frickin’ ridiculous and amazing all at once. • You know those measured beats at the beginning of his introduction? During each of those, he sharply turns his head in a new direction, ostensibly to show off his head. • Also, his walk is literally a swagger. • Either in this scene or during “Natasha and Anatole”, he caught a lady unaware and kissed her on the cheek. She jumped so badly, lolololol.
“Natasha and Anatole”
• During the intro of the song, Anatole checks himself out in a mirror before posing himself perfectly for the moment Natasha turns around to see him. • Also, let’s talk about Lucas Steele for a hot minute. He is Anatole Kuragin, from his almost exotic voice to the way he walks. Out of the cast, I’d say that Steele is the one who plays the crowd the best. • Throughout this number, Anatole and Natasha play the roles of pursuer and the pursued. Natasha tries so hard not to be wrapped under his spell. :( • When he takes the flower off her head, Natasha makes a perfect :O face. I love Denée Benton. • “And kiss me on the neck.” He does manage to get this kiss, and it’s really rough-looking. • “How do you like Moscow?” Lolololololololol. • For the most part, the two are roving around the stage (mostly bc Natasha is running away from Anatole), but at the end, they sit down next to each other, and it’s played as a really significant moment.
“The Duel”
• “The Duel” is epic live. Holy freakin’ crap. • The moment Dolokhov, Pierre, and Anatole clink their glasses together, the strobe lights come on and the real party begins. There’s intensely sexual dancing, half-naked people, and glow sticks everywhere. • Y'all, I saw Marya D., in a skin tight, black costume no less, whip several people with a riding crop with my own two eyes. • Also, in the very back of the rear mezz, there was, like, a threesome going on. • The energy during this song was absolutely nuts. • Sonya’s party outfit is so cute. It’s an almost innocent looking dress, and she’s wearing bright sunglasses. • The ensemble echoing back “corpulence” is really frickin’ funny. • Nick Choksi really highlights the psychopathic part of Dolokhov, especially in the “Here’s to the health of married women” sequence. His movements are jubilant but also shark-like. He and Hélène make out for a loooooong time.
“Dust and Ashes”
• Oak’s “Dust and Ashes” is an absolute privilege to hear, and if you have the chance, I would go and listen to it while you can. His voice could have shaken the entire foundation of the theater. • While he’s singing, the entire cast lines up in the rear mezz to provide backup vocals, and it’s incredibly poignant. (Also, tho, Lucas Steele stood in front of me, and I died.) • “Don’t let me die while I’m like this…” During these lines, Oak starts crying, and it guts you. • There was a two minute applause for “Dust and Ashes”, and I was on the verge of crying just bc he was getting such a huge applause. • Oak is perfect, okay?
“Sunday Morning” / “Charming”
• “Everyone sees a man!” Ingrid delivers this line so well. It got a huge laugh. • AHHHHHHHHH, now here’s a symbolic moment for you. When Natasha says that she can see a shape in the darkness as she’s looking into the mirror, Pierre is standing up right behind her. Pierre is her future. • (The moment Nat leaves, he sits back down.) • Amber Gray can slay me, tbh. “Charming” is everything I could have ever asked for. • When she walks in, the lights are bright behind her, and her hood is over her head, effectively masking her identity. It’s a really neat moment. • The lights dim when she takes off her hood. • Natasha is in her undergarments throughout the song until Hélène gives her her cloak. (Btw, Natasha looks gr8 in said cloak.) • At some point, Natasha starts mimicking Hélène’s movements, and it’s adorable but also a really nice character touch. Same goes for Hélène snatching Andrey’s necklace off of Nat’s neck and exchanging it for her own pearls.
“The Ball”
• This number was enchanting. I had a hard time focusing on the main stage bc the dancers in the rear mezz. were so mesmerizing in their movements. • Also, tho, the ensemble dancers mimicked what Anatole and Natasha were dancing at times. • When Natasha tries to run away from Anatole, he pursues her up the steps and forces their first kisses. She’s surprised at first, but gives into it with abandon a few seconds later. The kiss lasts a very long time. • At the end of “The Ball”, Natasha and Anatole run through the doors together and then turn to face the audience. They’re holding hands. The lights are bright behind them.
“Letters”
• “Letters” is such a frickin’ jam, y'all. • When it starts, the cast members spill out of the double doors singing. • At the beginning of “Letters”, just as Pierre is addressing Andrey, Andrey appears at the top of the stairs. Pierre faces him. • “I see nothing but the candles in the mirror.” For one of the very few times in the play, Natasha and Pierre face each other. • The geometric symmetry in the choreography is really wonderful all around. For instance, at one point, Mary, Natasha, and Pierre are all positioned in a triangle, taking turns facing one another. • Anatole’s love letter was an absolute showstopper. People were whistling, clapping, and screaming when he started holding those really long notes. Holy crap @ Lucas Steele!!!!!
“Sonya and Natasha” / “Sonya Alone”
• “Sonya and Natasha” is intense. I was on the edge of my seat for their fighting. • “I’m soooooooooooooo happy, and sooooooooooo frightened.” Kill it, Denée!!!! (When she’s singing about her happiness, her arms are extended widely, and when she’s singing about being frightened, she withdraws into herself.) • “I have no will. My life is his.” During these lines, Natasha is wrapped around an increasingly agonized Sonya. • “Sonya Alone” is one of the most powerful numbers in the show, and you really don’t recognize it until you see it live. • The theater is almost completely dark with the exception of a spotlight on Sonya. Throughout the entirety of the song, Natasha is ambling about, tightly clutching Anatole’s letter. • Sonya never takes her eyes off of Natasha, and your heart can’t help but ache for both of them. • Ingrid Michaelson is truly a wonderful Sonya—maybe not as sure as Brittain but she definitely doesn’t lack heart. • On the first “I will protect your name and your heart”, Natasha stumbles on a stair, staggered by the weight of her friend’s words. Then, she walks to the opposite side of the stage, only to be completely stopped by Sonya’s, “I know you’ve forgotten me.” • For the rest of the song, Natasha is still, her head inclined towards Sonya.
“Preparations” / “Balaga”
• When Pierre greets Anatole at the beginning of this number, it’s almost as though he’s caught Anatole out. Anatole had been trying to sneak past unnoticed. • Anatole shaves in front of a mirror during “Preparations”, lol. At one point, he turns to the crowd with shaving cream still on his face. • Dolokhov sings his arguments at Anatole very fiercely during this song, even more so than he does in the recording. • I looooooooooooove “Balaga”. It’s such a wild performance. Paul Pinto moves with such agility and manic energy. The ensemble hands out the egg shakers during this one.
“The Abduction”
• “THE ABDUCTION” IS SO GOOOD. HOLY CRAPPP. • Anatole singing “WHOOOOA” while swinging his green jacket cleared my skin, watered my crops, and cured my depression. • The whole theater is absolutely alive with commotion. There’s a dance off between a guy in the rear mezz and a guy on stage that’s frickin’ amazing. • People are doing backflips. • Natasha smashes a painting on Balaga’s head. • Marya and Hélène are making out. • Pierre is doing a cute jig. • It’s beautiful, beautiful chaos. • When Pierre screams his “WHOA” part, everyone collapses on the floor, absolutely exhausted, and then, then, the most wonderful thing happens. • Pierre giggles. • “Hee-hee-hee.” • God, I love Oak. • “Wait, wait. First we have to sit down.” Anatole made room for himself next to a girl, which was hecking funny, but what was even funnier was that the girl leaned her head on Anatole’s shoulder. The whole theater dissolved in laughter. Anatole held the quiet for a comedically long period before getting up, and when he did, he kissed the girl on the cheek. It was really cute. • When Marya entered at the end of the song, surrounded by this harsh, red light, there were audible gasps in the audience. People weren’t expecting her, lol.
“In My House”
• GRACE MCLEAN DESERVED A TONY NOMINATION: PART TWO. • She acted her butt out through this entire song. I’m serious. • Her voice is dangerously quiet until, “YOU LISTEN TO ME WHEN I SPEAK TO YOU. YOU LISTEN TO ME WHEN I SPEAK TO YOU.” • The tension in the room was palpable. • Also, all of the yelling you hear on the recording? It’s so much more intense live. It’s fierce enough to make you flinch. • “Don’t touch me!” At one point when Natasha screamed this, she physically pushed Marya away, and Marya wasn’t angry so much as she was stunned. • “Natasha’s whole body shook with noiseless, convulsive sobs.” She was literally bent over, grasping the railing like she couldn’t breathe. • “And she threw herself down on the sofa.” Natasha stands erect with her arms crossed and her head buried in them. The spotlights focus on her, and that’s when Marya softens. • You can see the fight leave Grace McLean’s body. Her voice is incredibly tender.
“A Call to Pierre” / “Find Anatole”
• GRACE MCLEAN DESERVED A TONY NOMINATION: PART THREE. • Her face is absolutely devastated as she’s talking to Pierre. Like, I still have chills thinking about it. • Also, Pierre is waking up from a nap at the beginning of this number, lol. • “I have been… studying.” He glances quickly at the place he had been napping. • The sheer power in Oak’s voice really comes out in these next songs. Anger and fear simmers behind the way he sings. A+++ • At the beginning of “Find Anatole”, he truly sounds out of breath. His body is fully bent over for a couple of seconds. • “He can’t be married!” The absolute horror in Denée’s voice nearly slaughters you, tbh. • When Pierre discovers Anatole and Hélène and gets mad, they start to run away. • Pierre is livid when he finds Anatole and Hélène. I mean, livid.
“Pierre and Anatole” / “Natasha Very Ill”
• Pierre nearly throttling Anatole is a sight™. • “Amuse yourself with women like my wife!” The spotlight shines on Hélène as she stands up and bristles indignantly. What an amazing character touch. • During that long pause before Pierre apologizes to Anatole, Natasha walks right between the two and drinks the arsenic. A few moments later, it begins taking effect, and she starts screaming. It’s a terrible, convincing sound. She runs off stage. Marya and Sonya follow her. • “FOR PETERSBUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURG!” :’))) • There was a pause between “Pierre and Anatole” and “Natasha Very Ill” while we all wildly applauded that C#. Holy crap @ Lucas Steele!!!!!!!!!!!! • “Natasha Very Ill” is sad. Everyone is devastated, especially Sonya and Marya.
“Pierre and Andrey”
• Ken Clark is an amazing Andrey. He has a v. human approach to the prince. • When Pierre and Andrey are trading insults, there’s a lot of affection between them. It’s really as though the two haven’t seen each other in quite awhile. • Andrey’s somewhat tender tone continues until he asks Pierre to confirm whether the rumors he had heard were true, and when Pierre replies in the affirmative, that is the very moment when Andrey assumes his colder exterior. • It frickin’ breaks your heart. • #PoorAndrey • “If you wish to be my friend, never speak of that again.” During “If you wish to be my friend,” Andrey’s voice breaks seemingly on the edge of tears, and then it hardens at the end as he jabs a finger in Pierre’s chest. The moment he does so, though, he immediately looks horrified. Did I really just threaten my friend? • “Well, goodbye” is soft. • #PoorAndrey • CRAP. I FORGOT THE WORST PART OF THIS SONG. Behind Andrey and Pierre, Natasha and Sonya are standing in a darkened corner. Whenever Andrey refers to Natasha, she flinches and buries herself into Sonya. • :(
“Pierre and Natasha” / “The Great Comet of 1812”
• “Pierre and Natasha” broke me. • At the beginning of the song, Natasha slowly makes her way down the staircase, entirely dependent on the railing to get down. It tears at your heart. You can’t help but remember how lovely and vibrant she had been at the beginning of the play. • The nightgown she’s in makes her look so small, and with her braided hair, she looks just like a little girl. • Oak emotes his lyrics so tenderly, so gently in this one. His voice is always on the verge of breaking. • “She began to cry…” Yeah, no. She sobbed, and you sobbed with her. Her whole body was shaking. She had to hold on to the rail. • An interesting tidbit: Hélène is sitting right behind Natasha, and she has her head in her hands like she’s reacting to the sadness of this scene, too. • “All over…” At this point, Natasha is walking back up the staircase, and the theater is absolutely silent. You could have heard a pin drop. Oak says the written line to her back. • I’ll never forget the way Oak delivered it, and I will never want to either. • His voice simply broke on “if I were free”. • Pierre turns away from her, and then she turns towards him, slowly making her way back to him. • During her last lines, Natasha touches his cheek, and it is sincerely one of the most beautiful moments of this very beautiful play. • “The Great Comet of 1812” was moving, too. • The theater very much looked like a beautiful night sky. The comet prop was stunning, too. • Pierre sat down at the end of the song and gazed reverentially up at the comet.
This play was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life, and I recommend it with all of my heart and soul. Please, please support it if you can.

The Tavern
Dear Oriana,
Tonight was super cool! I mean, you would never believe it. I saw a DragonBorn for the first time. For all of the places I’ve been I never thought I’d see one with my own eyes. He was so cool! Just like all our books said he would be. I also made a friend named Oda. I think we’re both related because we got the same letter of inheritance. Oda and I were hanging out at the bar and I tried to impress the Dragborn but I kinda messed it up. I mean, I think I was being pretty cool but he wasn’t impressed. Then there was this super beautiful Fire Genasi that came to the bar and started squabbling with the bartender. It’s true what they say about Genasis, she really looked like she was made out of fire. Like a bright flame forced to be in the shape of a body. So damn cool! I was hoping she would throw down with the bartender so I could see her use some cool elemental powers but that never happened.
Then there was this artsy-fartsy burlesque performance. The music was cool but Dwarves are not my deal, y’know. But yo, it’s also true what they say about Dwarven body hair. Gross.
As soon as the show was over the Genasi and a badass Orc girl got rushed by two dudes in cloaks and fought them off. The Orc girl really laid into one of them with an axe and it was RAD. I finished off one of them with Dissonant Whispers but I don’t think anyone noticed but Oda.
After the fight everyone got cool stuff except Oda and I. Well I got a couple of healing potions but not an epic invisibility cloak like the beautiful Genasi. I think she said her name was Adra.
Oda and I got totally wasted on this special drink they were serving at the bar. Oda drank so much she had a vision; I just got a bad case of bubbleguts and barfed in a satchel. Oda let me sleep on her floor after I was too scared to sleep in my own room at the inn. I’m still not used to being around so many large creatures and I feel so vulnerable. Oda is a true friend and I wish you could have met her.
It’s morning now and Oda and I are going to be travelling to Orange with the cool Dragonborn, that beautiful Genasi, and that badass Orc girl. I wonder if we’re all related since we all got the same inheritance letter. I feel like I’ve come so far from that day in the Glade already. I don’t know what’s coming next but I can’t wait to find out.
