There was a post recently (I cannot find it, because I post a lot... and the search function does not function) talking about how hard it is to brush your teeth when you have mental health issues
and also ways to work around it to get something cleaned in your mouth anyway
So I bought a water flosser and I've had it a week or so, today I decided to try it
I read the instructions the day I got it, and then didn't refresh before I started, and keeping my mouth A) closed so as not to let water fountain across the countryside and B) also open enough to let the water drain out was apparently a Hard Mode Challenge
it tickles. I feel cleaner already, and also wanted to brush my teeth after, so today was a win

7 Best Home Remedy For White Teeth
Having a bright and white smile is the dream of many people. Teeth whitening can be expensive, but there are several home remedies that you can use to help whiten your teeth naturally and prevent tooth decay.
From baking soda to activated charcoal, these natural ingredients are easy to find and relatively inexpensive.
n the article, we will highlight seven of the best home remedies for white teeth that can get a brighter smile without breaking the bank.
What Causes Yellow Teeth?
Genetics
Genetics can cause yellow teeth. This is due to enamel abnormalities or tooth shape caused by genetics. Tooth discoloration can be inherited and passed down from generation to generation.
Poor Oral Hygiene
Poor oral hygiene can lead to bacteria and plaque buildup on the teeth which can cause discoloration of the enamel and make teeth appear yellow. If not treated, the discoloration could worsen and become permanent.
Diet & Beverages
Certain drinks and foods can contribute to yellow teeth. Dark-colored beverages such as soda, coffee, and tea can stain the enamel of your teeth, causing them to appear yellow.
Foods with intense colorings like blueberries or curry can also cause staining on the teeth. Additionally, sugar intake can damage tooth enamel and lead to tooth discoloration.
Smoking
The nicotine and tar in cigarettes are known to stain the enamel of teeth, leading to discoloration. Additionally, the heat from smoking also causes damage to tooth enamel, resulting in a yellowish color.
Quitting smoking is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of developing yellow teeth.
Medications
Antihistamines and antipsychotics are two examples of medications that may lead to discoloration of the teeth. Other drugs typically used for chemotherapy or antibiotics may also have an effect on the color of the tooth enamel over time.
If you’re taking any medications that could cause yellow discoloration, it’s best to speak with your doctor about potential solutions.
Aging
Years of exposure to harsh foods, beverages, and other environmental factors can wear away the enamel on the surface of our teeth, leading to discoloration.
Even though natural aging can contribute to yellowing teeth, it’s important to practice good oral hygiene to help prevent discoloration and maintain a healthy smile.
What Causes Tooth Decay?
Tooth decay is caused by bacteria in the mouth, which feed off of sugars and starches left behind after eating.
This creates an acidic environment in the mouth, which breaks down the enamel and causes cavities. Plaque buildup can also contribute to tooth decay.
Poor oral hygiene can allow plaque buildup on the teeth, which can lead to further enamel erosion and a higher risk of developing cavities.
In addition to sugars and starches, drinking acidic beverages such as sodas or juices can increase your chances of developing tooth decay.
What Do Dentists Use To Whiten Teeth?
Dentists typically use professional teeth whitening treatments to lighten the color of the tooth enamel.
These treatments involve using a bleaching agent to break down and bleach the stained molecules on our teeth, resulting in a brighter, whiter smile.
Many dentists also offer at-home teeth whitening kits that include custom-fitted trays and special whitening gel that can be used at home.
Can You Whiten Your Teeth At Home?
The answer is yes!
Several natural ingredients can be used as home remedies to help whiten teeth. These natural ingredients are easy to find and relatively inexpensive.
With just a few simple steps, you can get a brighter smile naturally with the help of these seven home remedies for whitening your teeth.
Below is a list of remedies that you should and should not use to whiten your teeth:
1. Baking Soda & Lemon Juice
Baking soda and lemon juice can be used to whiten teeth, but they should not be used as a replacement for professional dental treatments.
While baking soda acts as a mild abrasive that helps remove surface stains, lemon juice is acidic and can wear away the enamel on your teeth if used too frequently.
2. Hydrogen Peroxide
hydrogen peroxide is commonly used to whiten teeth, however, it should only be used under the guidance of a dentist.
It works by releasing oxygen when applied to the surface of teeth, which helps break down and remove stains over time.
While hydrogen peroxide can be an effective way to achieve noticeably whiter teeth, it can also cause tooth sensitivity or irritation when not used correctly.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar
While apple cider vinegar is a popular at-home remedy for various health and beauty uses, it is not recommended as an option for teeth whitening.
Apple cider vinegar is highly acidic and can erode tooth enamel over time if used too often.
Additionally, the acidity of the vinegar can cause severe irritation to the gums and other soft tissues in the mouth.
4. Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal can be used as a natural teeth whitener. When applied to the surface of the teeth, it works by absorbing plaque, bacteria, and toxins that cause discoloration.
It’s important to use activated charcoal in moderation and make sure that you don’t overuse it, as it can wear away your enamel if used too frequently.
To use activated charcoal as a teeth whitener, mix some water with activated charcoal powder or tablets to create a paste, then brush your teeth with the paste for 2–3 minutes.
Make sure to rinse your mouth afterward to prevent any staining from occurring.
5. Regular Brushing & Flossing
Regular brushing and flossing are essential for maintaining good oral health, but they won’t necessarily make your teeth whiter.
Brushing helps to remove plaque and prevent discoloration caused by bacteria and food particles; however, it can only help to lighten the current color of the teeth.
Flossing is also important for preventing cavities and gum disease, but it won’t have a whitening effect on your teeth.
To achieve a whiter smile, you may need to use professional bleaching treatments or over-the-counter whitening products which can help to remove deeper stains from within the enamel.
6. Whitening With Fruit
Fruits such as strawberries and oranges can be used to naturally whiten your teeth. The malic acid in these fruits helps to remove surface stains and brighten your smile.
To use these fruits for whitening, mash up a few strawberries or rub an orange peel against your teeth for about two minutes.
Rinse your mouth thoroughly afterward to prevent any staining from occurring.
You can also make a paste by mixing the pulp of a mashed strawberry with baking soda and brushing it onto your teeth.
This mixture is especially effective at removing deeper stains from within the enamel.
7. Whitening Toothpaste
Whitening toothpastes are an easy and often affordable way to whiten your teeth.
Most whitening toothpastes contain mild abrasive ingredients that help to remove deep-set stains, polish the surface of teeth, and break up plaque.
When using a whitening toothpaste, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully and avoid overbrushing as this can lead to enamel erosion.
Best Home Remedy For White Teeth — Summary
From baking soda and tooth whitening to activated charcoal, apple cider vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide — there are several home remedies you can use to achieve a brighter smile.
While these methods may take time to show noticeable results, they provide an affordable alternative for those who want whiter teeth without spending too much money or using harsh chemicals.
However, it’s important that you follow the instructions carefully and don’t overuse any of these products as this could damage your enamel in the long run.
We hope this article has given you some helpful tips on how to get white teeth with natural ingredients!
