There was a post recently (I cannot find it, because I post a lot... and the search function does not function) talking about how hard it is to brush your teeth when you have mental health issues
and also ways to work around it to get something cleaned in your mouth anyway
So I bought a water flosser and I've had it a week or so, today I decided to try it
I read the instructions the day I got it, and then didn't refresh before I started, and keeping my mouth A) closed so as not to let water fountain across the countryside and B) also open enough to let the water drain out was apparently a Hard Mode Challenge
it tickles. I feel cleaner already, and also wanted to brush my teeth after, so today was a win

My water flosser's gone full Exorcist on us. Not even being dramatic. The bastard thing literally resurrected itself this morning like some sort of dental care messiah, except instead of saving souls it's just terrorizing my husband.
I'm on the bus, minding my own business, probably judging the woman opposite me for her choice in leggings (honestly, leopard print should come with a warning label), when my phone pings. It's himself, practically shitting himself because my supposedly dead water flosser has decided to stage a bloody coup.
This thing hasn't worked for two weeks. TWO WEEKS. Been sitting there like a useless plastic paperweight, completely lifeless when you press the power button. But apparently it was just waiting for the right moment to spring its demonic surprise, because it chose 7AM today to spontaneously burst into life and start screaming like a banshee having a mental breakdown.
Poor sod had no idea how to shut it up. I mean, usually you'd press the power button, wouldn't you? Except this is now clearly a possessed appliance that laughs in the face of normal operational procedures. Had to talk him through twisting off the bottom like we were defusing a bomb. "Careful, darling, don't let it sense your fear."
The only silver lining in this fountain of horror is that customer service turned out to be staffed by actual humans instead of more possessed electronics. Proper lovely about it - threw vouchers at me like confetti. New model AND money off the food shop. Though knowing my luck, the replacement will probably try to start a cult in our bathroom.
Binning the demon flosser tomorrow. Might perform a small exorcism first, just to be on the safe side. Can't have it corrupting the recycling bin and creating some sort of evil appliance army.
Note to self: maybe stick to regular floss. Less chance of it developing sentience and trying to take over the world.
P.S. If my toothbrush starts speaking in tongues, I'm moving house.

How Often Should You Floss with Water? Dentist-Recommended Tips
Flossing is an essential part of oral hygiene, helping to remove plaque and food particles from areas that a toothbrush can't reach. While traditional string floss has been the go-to method, water flossers have gained popularity due to their ease of use and effectiveness. But how often should you use a water flosser? In this guide, we’ll explore dentist-recommended tips for maintaining a healthy flossing routine.
Why Flossing with Water is Important
A water flosser uses a steady stream of water to clean between your teeth and along the gumline. This method is:
✔ Gentle on gums – Reduces irritation, making it great for people with sensitive gums. ✔ Effective for braces & dental work – Easily cleans around brackets, wires, and implants. ✔ More comfortable than string floss – No risk of cutting or damaging gums. ✔ Prevents gum disease & cavities – Removes plaque buildup, reducing the risk of gingivitis.
How Often Should You Use a Water Flosser?
Dentists generally recommend using a water flosser at least once per day, preferably at night. However, the frequency may vary depending on individual needs:
For healthy gums → Once per day is sufficient.
If you have braces, implants, or crowns → Twice a day can help prevent plaque buildup.
For gum disease or gingivitis → Follow your dentist’s recommendation, often twice daily.
If you eat sticky or sugary foods often → Consider using it after meals for better protection.
Best Practices for Water Flossing
To get the most out of your water flosser, follow these tips:
🔹 Use the correct water pressure – Start with a low setting and increase gradually. 🔹 Aim at the gumline – Hold the tip at a 90-degree angle for deep cleaning. 🔹 Move along each tooth – Spend a few seconds on each space for thorough plaque removal. 🔹 Use warm water or mouthwash – Helps reduce bacteria and enhances freshness.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
🚫 Using too much pressure – Can cause gum irritation. 🚫 Skipping hard-to-reach areas – Focus on all teeth, including molars. 🚫 Not using it regularly – Inconsistent use won't provide the best results.
Conclusion
Flossing with a water flosser is a game-changer for oral hygiene, especially if you struggle with traditional floss. Using it daily can significantly improve your gum health, prevent cavities, and give you a fresher smile. Whether you have braces, implants, or simply want a hassle-free way to floss, a water flosser is a valuable addition to your routine. Follow these dentist-recommended tips and make water flossing a daily habit for a healthier mouth!
