Damn, pretentious traumatised men driven to their downfall by their obsessive pursuit of knowledge and their poet boyfriends who take care of them. Real not fake.

tim actually starts joking again as they sneak around to plant bombs in the house of wax. not embittered, scathing humor, but real jokes about their surroundings. man.

yknow when i finished tma for the first time i had a really hard time. i cried so hard i nearly threw up ngl. i was very mad and i went through all five stages of grief, which you can find on my twitter live tweet thread (here).
and when i was in the anger stage i said some pretty unfair things about the ending, that i don't think i agree with anymore. I was so incredibly sad and upset that they both "died"
and now that i'm relistening with context in mind and generally over my initial heartbreak, i can see the genius in the ending now. I can feel the slow deliberate descent, the road to death and tragedy, in a way i hadn't before.
i've always had a penchant for tragedies. and i think the magnus archives is probably one of the most incredible tragic stories in modern media. the catharsis of TMA's ending is something that i don't think will be able to be replicated. truly lighting in a bottle, once in a life time kind of finale.

call me controversial for this take, but can we normalise enjoying things and being in the fandom even when you cannot watch/play/read/listen to/etc the source material, especially when you're neurodivergent?
like... i've only listened to a select few episodes of TMA, and I loved them, but i don't have the patience to listen to them all. The same goes for doctor who, tv and the extended universe. i haven't even watched all of ncuti's season, only the first three episodes, then the two finale episodes
i haven't watched all the eddisodes of eddsworld, but i still call myself a fan. like how i'm a fan of one direction, and i have only listened to one, maybe two of their albums in full.
i have played two of the fnaf games before, when i was 10 (which is quite frankly too young to even be touching the fnaf fandom), and no others since. those two games were fnaf 3 & 4, and i had to delete them after my first jumpscare because my parents didn't like me playing games like that (which is a whole nother can of worms).
the only way i could absorb myself into the fandoms i was in was by watching others play the games, reading fanfiction, watching animation memes. there's shows and films i've been recommended to me that i can't watch, because i don't have netflix, or amazon prime. the only things i have in that regard are uktv play, and bbc iplayer.

Birthday comic with s4(ish) Jonathan Sims
------
[ID: A Magnus Archives comic that starts with Jon putting a can labeled "Generic Beer—Classic" on a counter. He is a thin brown man with long hair and green and red eyes. He says, "Just this, please," and the cashier (who's design is loosely based off of Morro from Ninjago), asks, "ID?"
Jon hands it to him, and the cashier types it in with a bored expression. He hands the bag to Jon and says, "Here you go sir. And—" in pink colored text he adds "happy birthday." Jon startles and mumbles "Oh um," but the cashier calls, "Next!"
The background panel colors darken as Jon looks back with discomfort, then looks down at his ID with a grimace. His card shows the date 07/11/19... His photo shows him with short hair and colored eyes. Jon says, "I suppose it is that day again." End ID]
described by the wonderful @princess-of-purple-prose

I wish I could properly express how much I love media that explores the relationship between humanity and "monsters". There is something so dark about characters losing their compassion as they delve into whatever darker power is holding them hostage, and their own fear they have towards their actions. Or what is even better, is the discussion of where is the line between humanity and monster drawn.
I think this is something that makes mythology SO interesting, so many monsters within Greek epics did not start as monsters, but were often normal people. Medusa, Scylla, Arachne, there are soso many. They lost the things that made them human.
This is also a callout post for TMA. Jon's descent into monsterhood is devastating to watch. You get to see a man who is truly afraid of becoming a pawn for a greater power. Jon was not chosen, he was not destined to be a monster, he was simply the person to take the archival job. Tbh TMA and TMP plays with inhumanity in a very interesting way. Like Needles is SUCH a fun character. Jokes aside from them just being some guy, with a fuck ton of needles, there's this callousness that they have when discussing people. They do not care that they killed someone, they care more about their own survival. There is a freedom in the loss of control, but when you gain this freedom, do you lose your humanity in tandem?
It'll be interesting to see what kind of role, if any, Needles will have going forward. I'm also curious if Sam will soon grow more unbothered by death and the horrors as he's exposed to more statements.
I've heard Dungeon Meshi also delves into the line between humanity and monster however I havent gotten for enough to speak on it yet ;0 ok thats all I just wanted to yell about this
