by the time s3 rolls around we've seen a lot of jon with people in the context of his job at the evil ghost library, so primarily what we gain from his scenes with georgie is seeing him interact with someone he knows outside of that field, and this reveals both new positive traits of his along with new and beautiful things that are wrong with him. now relistening for the [sounds of a very loud plane passing overhead] time, and having come down with a terrible case of georgie barker disease, I can now appreciate and dissect all the beautiful things that are wrong with her, too. why did she lie to notoriously scary daisy while jon was asleep and then just never bring it up.

the thing about jmart is that they ARE a sickeningly saccharine domestic slowburn romcom couple. and they're a dangerously codependent cabaret of infinitely replicating incompatibilities built on a foundation of pure trauma. and they're entangled in such a way that, under the circumstances, they absolutely for no reason should or even could be separated, regardless of how dysfunctional the dynamic is on paper. and all of these things are true at the same time.

yknow when i finished tma for the first time i had a really hard time. i cried so hard i nearly threw up ngl. i was very mad and i went through all five stages of grief, which you can find on my twitter live tweet thread (here).

and when i was in the anger stage i said some pretty unfair things about the ending, that i don't think i agree with anymore. I was so incredibly sad and upset that they both "died"

and now that i'm relistening with context in mind and generally over my initial heartbreak, i can see the genius in the ending now. I can feel the slow deliberate descent, the road to death and tragedy, in a way i hadn't before.

i've always had a penchant for tragedies. and i think the magnus archives is probably one of the most incredible tragic stories in modern media. the catharsis of TMA's ending is something that i don't think will be able to be replicated. truly lighting in a bottle, once in a life time kind of finale.
