Day 17: Baking Cookies

Pairing: Clark Kent x Reader

Warnings: Tooth rotting fluff

A/N: Here we are on day 17! We have just over a week until Christmas! And maybe I will have a little surprise on New Years? I'll just say it was something promised long ago. Header by me, and divider by @cafekitsune

It was a cold winter day in Smallville, the snow was falling and covering the Kent farm in a nice blanket of snow. The air smelled of baked goods, and Bing Cosby's voice filled the silence.

Like the song said, it was going to be a white Christmas after all.

You and Clark had been together for almost a year now, and he decided it was time for you to finally meet his parents. Of course, when you met them, Ma and Pa Kent, as they wished to be called, were the kindest people you had met.

And that was saying something, you were dating a literal superhero.

The two of you had been in town for a few days already, now glad that you missed the snow on your travel in. Christmas in Smallville was a lot different than Christmas in Metropolis.

The area was quiet, and relaxing much unlike the business of the city.

Pa Kent was in town, buying the last few things before the weekend hit. He wanted to beat the massive Christmas rush, so he was going to be gone for a while.

Ma had herself busy with the various house chores, and so she stuck you and Clark with the duty of making the first batch of cookies. A simple task for you, but apparently a feat harder than stopping Lex Luthor for Clark.

"Do you think we added enough sugar?"

Looking up at Clark who hovered over your shoulder, you raised a brow.

"You really think we need more than two cups?"

Clark shrugged, rubbing the back of his head. "I don't know. Cookies are supposed to be sweet right, so the more sugar the better?"

"Clark, honey, have you ever eaten two cup of sugar straight up?"

This was when he shook his head, and you giggled.

"Trust me, two cups is plenty. Plus, its how much the recipe asks for. Baking is a lot like science, you need to be exact and precise for it to turn out right. Add too much of one thing and the whole process is thrown off."

Clark wrapped his arms around your waist. "Well, who needs sugar when I have something as sweet as you?"

You felt the heat rise in your cheeks, as you playfully batted him away.

"Go make sure the oven is set to the right temp, you dork."

Clark laughed and kissed your cheek before he checked the oven. "It looks ready,"

"Then get me a sheet and we can start scooping the cookies."

Doing as you told, Clark helped as you covered the baking sheet and began to scoop out the cookies and roll them into the shaped you wanted.

Your first type was a fun cream cheese snowman, a personal favorite of yours while growing up. Plus, they were super simple.

It took no time at all, before you had two trays ready to go into the oven. Gently handing them over, Clark carried them and set them in the oven while you got the timer prepared.

"Now what do we do?"

"Now," you laughed, stepping in front of him. "We wait, and maybe start on the next batch."

Clark's smile grew. "Do you think I can make the next batch?"

Before you could answer, you heard a voice from the hall.

"I'll be dead before that boy bakes in my kitchen again."

With a sigh, Clark dropped his head in defeat. "You set the oven on fire once, and you're never trusted again."

Patting his cheek, you pecked his lips.

"It's okay baby, I think it's a special talent to set ovens on fire."

Clark pursed his lips as he looked at you. "You're lucky I love you,"

"Or what?" you taunted.

"Or..." he trailed off. "I don't know."

The two of you laughed, before beginning the next batch of cookies, oblivious to the older woman who had her phone in hand and was taking pictures of the two of you together.

That's right, we're doing two in one folks! You voted for "Best Glow Up", but that's only one side of the spectrum. So in addition to finding out who rose from the ashes to shine the brightest, we're also going to see which character had the "Worst Downgrade"!

What We're Looking For

Glow Up - This can be looks, personality, place in life, or anything else that bumps a character up from where they were to where they are. Comics has an abundant history of highs and lows, so show us characters at their peak!

Downgrade - Similar to glow up, this can also be looks, personality, etc etc etc. Lets see our favorite characters at their worst, at their most cringefail, at their absolute lowest. Show us how far they've fallen! But remember, every character is someone's blorbo, so keep in mind this is in good fun.

For both of these, we are talking in-universe! So a choice about what a character is drawn wearing is valid, but the art style itself is not.

We are accepting any highs and lows from a character's history through the years. That means it doesn't necessarily have to be what is considered canon at this point in time, nor does it have to include where they're at today in current comics. As long you can describe what they were like before vs what they were like some time after, any time period is fair game.

As for different universes, these are valid comparisons if the two versions really are of the same character, and a clear before and after can be identified. For example, you could compare Golden Age Superman to Silver Age Superman or even Snyderverse Superman since all of those are Clark Kent. You might even be able to make a compelling enough case for comparing him to Ultraman.

Clark was stood in the elevator staring up at the sign that showed what floor he was on, groaning to himself for being late. What excuse could he make up this time to avoid being fired or Perry's errand boy for the week. Once at his floor, Clark squeezed passed the others in the lift "Excuse me. Sorry." Letting out a sigh of relief; he adjusted his glasses, tie and hair in the reflective surface opposite the door he just came through. Wearing a muted blue checkered shirt, a black tie and a pair of jeans that hugged his body in all the correct spaces, mostly due to the man's physique. The jeans elevated his glutes, not that they needed to, his thighs and calves. Unfortunately for Clark they also gave emphasis around the groin area. The unwanted attention bulged outwards at his crotch which was often the subject of gossip around the office.

Getting to his seat, he took off his messenger bag and set it on top of his desk before flopping back into his chair. He made it without running in Perry and his top dog. He just managed to log in before noticing half of the office was empty. Looking up over the dividers he peered around the office… Most of the seniors weren't there… The meeting room door finally opened.

"Nice of you to join us Farmer Kent." Perry announced as he came out spotting Clark's desk was no longer empty.

"Morning Perry, sorry I got caugh-" Perry held his hand up cutting off Kent mid speech.

"I don't care for your excuses today, Kent. Not when you volunteered yourself for our annual charity event." Clark looked bewildered at Perry, blinking a few times in confusion. "I think you're gonna love this years theme." Perry walked off with a chuckle. Before Clark could even register what just happened, the bombshell of the office - Lois Lane walked up to Clark.

"I had to save your ass again." She said to him while watching Perry walk off. Ah Perry's top dog. Her gaze then fell onto Clark. "I had to volunteer you. Otherwise Perry was going to toss you out. Consider us even from all the times you've saved me." Not sure being saved from being fired and being saved from falling from a building has the same karma rating, but there's no arguing with Lois.

"Thanks… I guess." He placed his hands between his legs on the chair he was sat on while talking to Lois. "What's the charity event? Not naked painting classes again is it? Don't fancy more gossip about my body around the office." He rolled his eyes. Lois looked amused.

"Don't worry, you won't need to take your clothes off. Unless the date goes well." 'Date?' Clark thought to himself. Almost like she could read his mind she added. "Yep, you heard me, a date. I figured it was time you moved on." It had been a few months since Clark and Lois decided to part ways. With Clark being Superman it made things hard on Lois, with her dating the guy it made her a target to the supervillains that found out their secret. Also Lois was a career woman and Clark eventually wanted kids whereas Lois didn't as she believed the stereotype that a woman's career died after having kids. "…Okay. I can go on a date with a random stranger. Just hope it's not your sister that wins it." Clark chuckled before turning his attention to his desk.

Lois rolled her eyes before they lit up with joy. "Ah! Excuse me. I've just spotted someone I need to speak to and I'll enjoy the reaction from it." Lois walked over to the newest addition to the team. A young woman named Kelly. Clark watched the interaction until the postie came around, handing him a letter. For that split second he turned his gaze away Kelly let out a shriek in terror.

"Not Gotham. It's dangerous, I can't report anything from Gotham other than my obituary." She began to sob. Clark went to get out of his seat, but paused. As he noticed the letter he was handed was stamped with the Wayne family Sigil. Having it take a hold of his attention, he plopped his butt back down and opened the letter to read it.

'Clark, I have to let you know something, there's no easy way to say this. I need your help to protect Gotham. Soon I'll be away dealing with a developing problem that needs my attention. The citizens and thugs of Gotham will no doubt notice my absence. Things will get crazy on the streets. Those that run the underworld of Gotham will no doubt make a power play.

My kids aren't ready to take on Gotham without me. They need someone with a strong sense of justice and heroism to guide them to being the best they can. Only a few will know where I've disappeared to. I'm dealing with the League of Assassins. Talia Al Ghul has a plan that can stop them from destroying the world and needs my help to do it. Some will be annoyed I'm helping her, but her heart is in the right place. You of all people would know what that means in the dark world we live in.

Clark looked left. Clark looked right. He then shoved the letter in his briefcase and rushed towards the exit before being stopped by Lois. "In a rush?" She asked, perking a brow at him. Knowing it was a Superman emergency. Clark adjusted his glasses.

"Got to get myself ready for the charity date." He replied before slipping into the lift, going to the ground floor. Lois threw her hands up in a shrug.

"It needs to be won by a reader first!" She shook her head only to huff. "…Idiot."

Day 24: Christmas Eve

It was Christmas Eve, the day had finally come. You and Clark were with his parents, enjoying the holiday and the traditions.

You were sat at the tree, in Clark's lap as he held you close.

There was a plate of cookies there as you munched listening to stories of Clark as a child.

Even when he was young, Clark had a big heart.

Ma told you the story of when he helped dig the neighbors out, cause they were snowed in. It took a while because he couldn't use his strength, but he was determined.

There was also the story of the year he helped Pa fix a friend's truck. Instead of sitting inside with his presents, Clark spent his day outside.

It made you smile hearing about his childhood, it only made you love him more.

Pulling you closer into his chest, you giggled leaning back into him. Pa was telling the story of the year he tried to track Santa. That's when they had to break the news to him.

After a while, Ma brought out the hot chocolate and eggnog. You and Clark took your respective cups, sipping the delicious drink.

Now it was time for Pa to read The Night Before Christmas, like he did every year.

You sat together and listened, enjoying the time together. Everything was perfect, and you wanted nothing to change.

"A merry christmas to all, and to all a good night." Pa finished, leaning back in his chair.

"Now get to bed, or Santa won't come."

You laughed as you rose to your feet. "Yes, Pa."

Telling them both goodnight, you and Clark climbed the stairs to the guest room. You changed quickly and crawled into bed, into his warm embrace.

Letting out a sigh of relief, you closed your eyes.

"Night Clark, Merry Christmas."

Clark kissed your hair.

"Merry Christmas, my love. Get some sleep."

And you did, dreaming of the man you loved, sugar plums and the fun to come the next day.
