when you were new at camp you heard stories about clarisse la rue, the mighty daughter of ares.

the daughter that didn’t disappoint. the daughter that was the head of the ares brood.

clarisse la rue was a force to be reckoned with, you were told. clarisse la rue was the favourite and most formidable child of one of the most formidable gods, you were told.

clarisse la rue would bully people into submission when they arrived at camp - giving them swirlies in the toilets, torturing them at capture the flag, beating them senseless at swordplay.

you didn’t meet clarisse la rue until your fourth day in camp. you had just walked out of the toilet stall and to the sink when you saw her in the mirror. she stood in the doorway of the toilet block, tall and shining. 

clarisse walked towards you and you swallowed. “i heard,” she was at the sink next to you now. “that you’ve already been claimed.” you nodded, looking at her through the mirror as you washed your hands.

“am i allowed to know who by?” she had turned to you, her right hip leaning against the sink, her toned arm crossed over her chest.

your mouth opened and closed a couple times as you struggled to get your words out. clarisse was intimidating, people were right about that, but she was also beautiful. 

she looked at you expectantly, “can you speak?” a hand reached out, and brushed your chin like she was trying to draw the words out of you physically. 

you held onto the sink next to you, thinking you were about to collapse. you cleared your throat, “uh, uh,” you let out a short laugh as you caught yourself and you scratched your head. “athena.”

clarisse’s eyebrows raised, her tongue went into her cheek, “huh” she huffed out as her arms crossed back over her chest.

“what ��huh’?” you mirrored her, crossing your arms too. clarisse glanced down at your chest quickly.

“our parents aren’t friends.” she smiled widely, leaning into your space.

“they’re not?” 

“no.” clarisse backed away from you, walking backwards to the door. “but we could be.” she turned and rounded the corner, walking away from the toilet block, leaving you in the dust.

you let out a deep sigh as soon as clarisse was out of sight, turning back to the mirror, you grabbed onto the sink and bent down so you were balancing on your toes. you placed your forehead on the cool porcelain sink and groaned. 

clarisse la rue was definitely mighty, clarisse la rue was definitely formidable, but clarisse la rue was also fucking dangerous.

clarisse who has only ever known war loses the only person who has ever loved her to a war. a senseless war, a war to protect gods who have never protected her. she won’t be like them. she will avenge silena’s death, and she will protect camp half-blood doing it. they are her real family, she knows that now, all it took was silena sacrificing her life.
