Flatten Your Summer

From the most expensive to the cheapest…

I. Clarins Lip Comfort Oil - 30$

I’ve tried those two shades (Cherry and Pitaya) for months now and those are simply amazing. 1. The color is so pretty and it absolutely doesn’t get into the lines of your lips. 2. Very hydrating, I have crusty dry lips and I can use this on a daily basis without having my lips dry at the end of the day. Also the container doesn’t leak! Lovely soft candy smell too! My only complain is the price…worth it yes, but so expensive. Wide range of shades. 9.5/10

II. Gisou Honey Infused Hydrating Lip Oil - 28$

I would eat those for breakfast. They are so shiny, so tasty and the colors are beautiful. I’ve only tried those two shades, Mango Passion Punch and Watermelon sugar, and oh my if they have a good taste and smell, never had a lip oil smell THIS good. Also, this is so hydrating, really. Your lips are going to be SO SMOOTH (so comfortable), it works just like the most hydrating lip balm you could possibly find. I am so glad they did this tinted version, because I couldn’t bare the smell of the original one (it smells like fried food and even if that hydrating, I couldn’t use it😭). The best lip oil I’ve ever had (I only had those for a week, but I’ve been using them constantly, but in case something goes wrong in the future, I’ll do an update here). Also very expensive, but shut up and take my money for this. And again, SO SHINY OMG. 10/10

III. CLINIQUE Almost Lipstick - 25$

This is not actually a lip oil, like, not totally, because it is still emollient like an oil and also I wanted to talk about it since it was everywhere last year. The color got me obsessed with berry lip tints, it changed my idea of “ideal color” forever. Still, I expected so much better. I have dry lips, as I mentioned before, and this isn’t hydrating enough and for a product of THAT price it isn’t really acceptable. My lips always crack after not even thirty minutes, the trick is to put underneath a basic transparent lip balm and voilà, but you know…in italy I payed even more than in the us for this product and I was disappointed (30€ which is way more that 25$). The black honey from clique was a cultural reset and I shall try one day the liquid form, hopefully that will be more hydrating. Still, the color on the lips is so beautiful yet natural. Not sentenced. 7/10

IV. Pacifica GLOW STICK Lip Oil - 11$

This is what the Clinique one should’ve been. I originally bought this because I was searching for a dupe of the black honey and, oh my, if I striked right (I bought this one before the og). The effect on the lips is the SAME, you can’t tell them apart, the shade is Crimson Crush. Also, this one really does the job, it is hydrating, not as much as other presented here before, but it works well and the price is good! Not sentenced. There are also other very cute shades. Also I think that a stick lip oil is genius. 9/10

V. NYX FAT OIL LIP DRIP - 9$

This one almost feels like a lip gloss from how glossy it is. Also the shades can be either sheer, a slight tint, or also almost a full color. I have the shades Status Update and That’s Chic and I used them a lot this summer. The color doesn’t last too long, but it a lip oil what do you expect, it’s transferable. Not sentenced. Can get in the lines of your lips. Very pretty overall, very good price and also great shade range (I want to try some more of those uhh). Container doesn’t leak! A very solid 8/10

VI. Essence hydra kiss LIP OIL - like 3-4$

Lovely lip oil, the formula is very comfortable and soooooo hydrating. An awkesome every day lippie and colors are very nice. I have no complains except one: the container leaks. I can’t bring it anymore with me because it has become all sticky on the outside, thankfully we had a long run before this, I’m almost out of it anyway (I ate it gnam😀) . Not sentenced. Otherwise, sooo good! 7.99/10 for the container not the product

VII. Essence Cranberry tinted lip oil - also 3-4$

This lip oil is THAT GIRL. Amazing, so surprised the first time I tried and now look at us, at the second empty bottle, hoping to find another one somewhere, since it is hard to find it in store. So hydrating and you get the cutest tint!! Essence never does one wrong when it comes to shiny lips and I love them for that. The container doesn’t leak!! Not sentenced. 10/10!

LOTD: Clarins Lip Comfort Oil in 24 White. #Scentoftheday L'Etoile Golden EDP & L'Etoile White EDP both Kiko Milano (Holiday Premiere 2023).

I am picking up where I left off, a month ago. Sorry for such a long break, but I had both a dentist and opticians appointment within a week of each other and when you don't get out the house all year, it takes it's toll on you when you're out twice! If you remember, I was trying out glosses and liquid lip products I haven't used before, so here's my first impression.

Clarins were the first brand to market lip oils and I think theirs was the first I ever tried. These two new shades, 24 White and 25 Black launched this year, so I picked up both to try.

The shade names are pretty self explanatory. White is the one I'm trying out today, it's white with a white pearl. Whereas the black one has actual glitter (gold), rather than being pearly. The limited edition packaging has a frosted and clear grid pattern and the usual wand applicator, which is one of those curved, chunky, bouncy feeling ones.

I'd probably always wear the white on it's own as I'm not a fan of getting wands 'dirty' by applying over lipstick (and can't always be bothered to apply it to the back of my hand and then onto the lips with my finger). It's honestly not that exciting on the lips. The pearl is subtle, it just looks a little shiny. I think the black one is going to be far more interesting in terms of colour (sidenote, I already have a black one from The Kooples collab they did about 5 years ago).

I didn't find White as nourishing or long lasting as previous shades I've tried from the brand. It didn't seem as shiny as other shades either (as far as I remember, a month on). I wasn't massively impressed. It's probably going to be more suited for me wearing to bed as an overnight treatment.

As always, the swatch above is taken indoors in natural light, on a bare arm with no colour or light edits made to the image. Phew! I'd almost forgotten how to write these posts x

Like all my skin recs!!

Makeup and skin recommendations from an ingredients junkie and biochem lover who will not put benzoates near his face and limits phenoxyethanol.

Skin:

Clarins seems pretty good. To be brutally honest, I used their nicinamide and sea holly night cream at the same time as the blue orchid oil so I have no idea what made me wake up with nice skin, but it was one of those. Gonna sound snobby asf but the dior lip oil? Wears away in a second in the day time, don't waste your time replying- using it last thing before bed on the other hand? Magical. Literally gets rid of like a month of dry lips for a whole week.

Also, for acne- dont be stupid like i was. If you learn about acne causing ingredients and stop using them, and you still have acne, bite the bullet and go to your doctor. Mine put me on duac, which is a prescription medicated cream, benzoyl peroxide and an antibiotic, and it is literally wonderful. Your skin will crack, it will flake, it will be unpleasant for like a week. Stop using it everyday. Try every two days. Build a tolerance. Then use it everyday. I started using it bc my skin was so bad it was getting infected, so especially if you have that issue it's so good.

Beauty of joeson ginseng toner- STAY AWAY FROM IT. Made me break out like CRAZY. literally the worst.

Damatol is probably a saviour if you're black or have curls or coils, but pls do not be like me. If you're white or mixed be so careful bc you have less cornified cell layers, so your skin will be more sensitive to the oils, man I was BURNT. I've seen really good things on black hair care forums, so check that out if it suits your hair type. It has coconut oil, so don't use it all over since it's comedogenic, but I find it's pretty okay as a flash spot treatment and has some ingredients that aid hair growth and management too.

Black seed oil. I use nature's drop. Only hair growth thing you need. Reliable, not gimmicky, proven results, cheap, nice moisturiser, incredible. 10/10. Don't get it in your eyes it will sting so bad.

Nursem- saviour for hands but get the one in the white tub, not the blue one. Ik it's pricier, but the blue one has soybean oil, so if you touch your face after putting it on, it might cause breakouts if ur oily like me.

Biosolis 50+ sun milk. It's good. It leaves a crazy cast but if you rub it in enough it will be fine. Not sure how the cast is for dark skin since I'm white but the performance is good. It doesn't clog pores and it hydrates.

For darker skin or dry skin I recommend moogoo spf 30. Clogged my pores a teeny bit but okay performance and definitely no white cast that I can see.

For makeup (I am a tanned white person, keep that in mind bc these will show differently on different skin. My shades are between 4 (winter) and 6 (summer) on the loreal shade chart))

Rare beuty blush is so pricey, not a lot for what you pay and the package makes it look bigger than it is, but I can't deny the performance is unreal. Blends well, looks good. I did some research from YouTube videos and saw that the light shades still show up on darker completions, but not as much as the darker more pigmented shades, which seem to have a good performance regardless of skin tone.

Nars settign powder; also expensive but worth the hype. Deff mattufyung and slightly blurring. I use the translucent, which is supposed to look good on dark skin too, but I'm not sure what its performance would be like with the camera flash. There are also pigmented versions in darker shades.

Ysl candy glow balm is nice for a night out, but the price point means you don't wanna use it all the time. I lime the 3b shade. Nice pop of colour, but it's mostly just for people who need the no makeup makeup look/want to only wear subtle makeup/want to wear makeup but have gender dysphoria.

Okay, the superdrug collection lip and cheek stain I have so much to say for. It's performance is amazing. It blends well. It has a good colour. And yet I don't like it. Why? Because man. No matter what you do, the container starts to become so manky after like two weeks.

I genuinely think the issue is the container and not the product, bc the container of a separate primark tint broke, so I poured the primark tint into the empty super drug container and after about a week or two It's started to smell...uh...rough.
