Checked, Iced, Blocked, Hooked, and Tripped are all included, plus bonus content previously only available in Jacob’s newsletter.
Get your copy today!https://mybook.to/dwAT
Checked: One night was all it was meant to be between Clancy 'Wilde Man' Wilder and me until I saw two pink lines on the pregnancy test. How did the notch on my belt turn into a ball and chain?
Iced: My longtime crush, a notorious hockey player, offers to be my pretend boyfriend at a dreaded family reunion. How do I protect my fragile heart when the lines between fantasy and reality blur with our first kiss?
Blocked: Attending the same college as my first love, who also happens to be my brother's best friend and a goalie on the hockey team, is harder than it seems. Everywhere I go, he seems to appear, stirring up old feelings that are best forgotten.
Hooked: Avoiding bad boy hockey player Marshall Winters has been one of my goals since he did me wrong four years ago. However, with both of us attending the same university and his younger sister being my best friend, it's damn near impossible.
Tripped: With my ex and I playing hockey for the same university and running in the same circles, I can't seem to avoid him, no matter how hard I try. I've got goals, and giving Donovan Archer a second chance with my heart isn't one of them.

THIS WEEK IN CELTIC MUSIC
0:06 - WELCOME
1:16 - WILLOWGREEN - A PIRATE HIDEOUT
Willowgreen performs traditional, contemporary and original music from Ireland, Newfoundland, Scotland, Canada, U.S.A. and the rest of the Celtic music world. Their signature vocal style combined with instrumentation including harp, hammered dulcimer, bodhrán, guitars, button accordion, whistles and mandolin appeals to audiences of all ages.
Jim Ofsthun bio: Jim is an original member of Willowgreen, and a talented vocalist and instrumentalist with international performances on Irish bodhrán, guitar, button accordion, and whistles. He is also a member of McInnis' Kitchen, and of Eira. He has family connections to the music through Ireland and Newfoundland, and is considered one of the top producers in Irish music in the Midwest.
4:37 - Willowgreen “Crocker’s Cove Reel” from Willowgreen
7:34 - POITIN
Poitín are an award-winning traditional Celtic band from Pilsen in the Czech Republic. They explore all forms of Celtic music but are firmly grounded in the pub session tradition and like nothing better than sitting round a table in the corner of a cosy pub playing old favourites about tarry sailors, merry maids and drunken nights. Poitín have performed at festivals across Europe in Italy, France, Poland, Denmark, Germany and the Czech Republic.
As the album says, it's 'one for the road', to go with you and keep you company in your car or on your bike, and this Celtic world music will take you from Ireland to Argentina, from England to Egypt, from Brittany to the Czech Republic and beyond.
15:44 - Poitin “Claudy Banks” from One For the Road
17:58 - AMELIA HOGAN - TAKING FLIGHT
Amelia Hogan is an impeccably authentic singer of Celtic music and her heart comes through in honeyed tones on Irish, Scottish, British, and American styled vocals. She sings in the Irish music tradition of Sean-Nós, or “old style” as well as accompanied. Amelia also plays bodhran and a small 22 string Welsh lap harp, and tours internationally to global acclaim.
Amelia Hogan sings both traditional and contemporary folk music with lilting graces and subtlety. She’ll weave a mysterious old magic that takes the listener out of time and place. She transports audiences with haunting melodies, holding them close, and stirs ancient spirits with an evocative storytelling presence.
24:07 -  Amelia Hogan “Taking Flight” from Taking Flight
26:19 - FEEDBACK
28:24 - KINNFOLK
Josh and Julie Kinn weave bouzouki, bodhran, and smooth vocal harmonies in their Celtic folk music from the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Kinnfolk have played at festivals and listening rooms throughout Virginia and beyond. In 2021, Kinnfolk was one of 10 bands--representing 10 countries from across the globe--selected to be part of the inaugural Robinson Emerging Artist Showcase hosted by the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival. As their notoriety has expanded worldwide, their music has been featured on podcasts and radio programs across the globe.
39:51 - Kinnfolk “The Hat Song” from The Knotted Circle
45:15 - BOSTON BLACKTHORNE - FISHING
Boston Blackthorne has been performing with the same core members for over 25 years. Their sound is a unique blend of traditional Celtic and Americana in a driving format - more rock than the Clancy Brothers, more folk than the Dropkick Murphys - while sharing some of the traditional repertoires of both.
They are proud of their deep songwriting bench - the original songs of Boston Blackthorne have won several national and international songwriting competitions including first place in the International Narrative Songwriting competition and honorable mention in the International Songwriting Competition.
The band’s sound is centered around powerful vocal harmonies and lead vocals shared by several of the members.  Between the 5 core members instrumentation includes fiddle, 4&5 string banjo, harmonica, 6&12 string guitars, mandolin, bouzouki, bass and drums
50:26 - Boston Blackthorne “Fishing over the Lusi” from Single
54:40 - ALTAN - FAVORITE SONG OF MAIRÉAD NÍ MHAONAIGH
You can hear more stories by the Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh on show #580.

1:38:59 - CELTIC INVASION VACATIONS
1:39:32 - MARC GUNN
John Sharkey White II requested my version of “Peggy Gordon” in the last episode of the podcast. Obviously, I am the host of this podcast. But I’m gonna read my current bio on my website like I’ve done with others.
Marc Gunn is a Rhythm & Folk songwriter who fuses Irish and Scottish folk songs with pop culture. One brewery called it Sci F’Irish music. His musical weapon of choice is the autoharp. He breathes acoustic Rock and Roll into this folk instrument and adds a bellowing taste of rhythm & blues.
Gunn found musical inspiration performing Irish drinking songs. He learned the art of performing at Renaissance faires and from his childhood idol, Elvis Presley, who said, “You've got to put on a show to draw a crowd.” His concerts are fun filled with sing along songs that get the audience's feet tapping.
And now for my song…
I first heard the song “Peggy Gordon” from a cassette of Irish Drinking Songs I found at Half-Price Books in Austin, Texas. I learned most of my early Irish song repertoire from that album, songs like “Whiskey in the Jar”, “Big Strong Man, “Wild Rover”, “Bog Down in the Valley” and lots more.
Their version of “Peggy Gordon” was short, but memorable. I played it on and off for many years. I remember singing it at a pub in Switzerland when I met Heidi and Stef of the Celtic band Bow Triplets.
In July 2009, I met my future wife, Gwen, while touring in Virginia. We had this whirlwind romance and began talking on the phone every day and went to see each other as much as possible even while I was out on tour. I was completely mesmerized by her.
A few weeks later, I was back in Austin. I was scheduled to record my next studio album with Rich Brotherton. He’s an incredible engineer and had done some brilliant work for Ed Miller and lots of top-notch artists in Texas.
I was having trouble singing the song. I was pitchy and my voice lacked any real emotion. The lyrics have this great feeling of love and longing. Which is exactly the feeling I was having with Gwen so far away. And so… I closed my eyes, focused on Gwen, and sang.
To this day, I still tell people it is one of my best recordings. Because I feel like I nailed it. And then to top it off, Rich Brotherton added some absolutely beautiful guitar work, as he did throughout that album. It is definitely one of my warmest and lushest and best-produced albums.
1:42:07 - Marc Gunn “Peggy Gordon” from The Bridge
1:46:26 - ENDA REILLY
Enda Reilly is a folk singer, songwriter and guitarist from Dublin, Ireland. Firmly rooted in the Irish tradition with songs that strive for a better future, Enda Reilly’s work invites you to see the world from his varied and unique perspective through each new song and project. From busking on Grafton Street to the National Concert Hall, Enda has performed on countless stages in his hometown of Dublin and beyond.
1:50:46 - Enda Reilly “Christmas True” from Christmas Is With Us
1:54:07 - CLOSING
1:54:22 - THE CHIVALROUS CRICKETS – LORD OF MISRULE
The Crickets explore the roots, branches and crossroads of Celtic and English folk and American Old Time music. With equal attention to exhilarating performances and academic rigor, they bring to the stage boldly reimagined arrangements of standards and originals with traditional influence. With a particular focus on song repertoire, they're known for their rich vocal harmonies and fascinating textural blends incorporating over 15 instruments, both modern and ancient.
They're a family band comprising two sisters, two couples and childhood friends. Four of their members are full-time classical musicians as well.
2:02:23 - The Chivalrous Crickets “The Lord of Misrule” from A Chivalrous Christmas

What are you doing today while listening to the podcast? You can send a written comment along with a picture of what you're doing while listening.
Email a voicemail message to [email protected]
When you make a per-episode pledge on Patreon, I plan to charge 4 episodes per month. But sometimes I forget. Other times, I charge for the show on the wrong date like I did this past month. As a result, the podcast income was short this month.
Thankfully, our Patrons of the Podcast are just incredible. They donated money and bought CD and digital downloads in my store to help cover the loss. Thank you SO much for your generosity, as always.
Asa Swain wrote: "Dear Marc, Thank you for playing “Banjos we have heard on high” in the Nov 28 episode (of the Celtic Christmas Podcast). It made me smile in delight. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas season. Thanks for sharing beautiful Celtic music with us year round.
I’ve been listening to your show for about 15 years, I got a chance to chat with you at the online Boskone you attended in 2020. (On zoom) You talked about how wonderful traveling was. I haven’t travelled overseas since 2019 (because of COVID), but in December my wife and I are going to spend a week exploring Iceland. We’re very excited. (we’ll only have 4.5 hours of sunlight each day, but we hope to see the northern lights) . All the best."

When Yellow Ribbons and Flag-Waving Aren't Enough
An ex-soldier's take on recent war poetry. BY NATHANIEL FICK
Originally Published: September 11th, 2007
I first flew into Afghanistan in the autumn of 2001, near midnight, with a rifle by my side and no passport in my pocket. At 24 years old, I commanded a Marine Corps infantry platoon, spearheading the attack against the Taliban after September 11. My men and I had all joined a peacetime military, and that night we were self-consciously aware of heading into combat for the first time. Nearly six years later, on a sunny afternoon, I’m again soaring over the Hindu Kush range. This time, I’m on an Indian Airbus, sipping sparkling water and reading war poems.
After two combat tours (we did another in Iraq in 2003), I left the military to study for a master’s degree in public policy and an M.B.A. Now I live with my fiancé in Boston. We host dinner parties, grow herbs on the windowsill, and go walking in the park on Sundays. It’s four years and 10 lifetimes since my last ambush patrol, and I’ve been invited back to the fray to teach at the Afghanistan Counterinsurgency Academy, a school set up to train Afghan and NATO troops on the finer points of fighting insurgents. For some reason, I’ve agreed to come.
The bag at my feet is filled with military manuals, but I prefer the poems, thinking they may be my last chance to reflect for a while. War’s intensity is a great catalyst for reflection, but few combatants can afford the luxury. Most real thought must wait until the shooting stops. I wish I could say I took strength in combat from poetry or prayer or love, but I didn’t. I was concerned with more prosaic things: studying maps, planning missions, and cleaning weapons. When I had a few minutes free, I slept.
I do, though, remember two encounters with poetry during my first trip to Afghanistan. Late one evening, while camped in the desert near Kandahar, one of my marines called me over to listen as he read aloud from a book of Kipling’s verse:
When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan’s plains, And the women come out to cut up what remains, Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains An’ go to your Gawd like a soldier.
He laughed, and so did I, mainly because it didn’t seem very funny at the time.
The second poem, Alastair Reid’s translation of “The Just,” by Jorge Luis Borges, was mailed to me by a friend. I tacked it to the wall in our temporary command post, between a map of southern Afghanistan and a roster of my platoon, because it was that most precious of possessions in a combat zone: a reminder of normal life at home:
A man who cultivates his garden, as Voltaire wished. He who is grateful for the existence of music. He who takes pleasure in tracing an etymology. Two workmen playing, in a café in the South, a silent game of chess. The potter, contemplating a color and a form. The typographer who sets this page well, though it may not please him. A woman and a man, who read the last tercets of a certain canto. He who strokes a sleeping animal. He who justifies, or wishes to, a wrong done him. He who is grateful for the existence of Stevenson. He who prefers others to be right. These people, unaware, are saving the world.
Like Kipling and Borges, Randall Jarrell is a poet known even to the Tom Clancy crowd, so I let down my tray table and open his Selected Poems first. I dimly associate his name with the image of a dead bomber crewman washed from his turret with a hose. Despite this subliminal familiarity with Jarrell’s work, I find that my current circumstances lend new meaning to “Eighth Air Force”
If, in an odd angle of the hutment, A puppy laps the water from a can Of flowers, and the drunk sergeant shaving Whistles O Paradiso!—shall I say that man Is not as men have said: a wolf to man? The other murderers troop in yawning; Three of them play Pitch, one sleeps, and one Lies counting missions, lies there sweating Till even his heart beats: One; One; One. O murderers! . . . Still, this is how it’s done: This is a war. . . . But since these play, before they die, Like puppies with their puppy; since, a man, I did as these have done, but did not die— I will content the people as I can And give up these to them: Behold the man! I have suffered, in a dream, because of him, Many things; for this last saviour, man, I have lied as I lie now. But what is lying? Men wash their hands, in blood, as best they can: I find no fault in this just man.
This is how it’s done: This is a war
. . . Along with the manuals, my bag holds ballistic goggles and a holster to carry a concealed pistol. Six weeks ago, it held accounting textbooks. One of war’s more jarring traits is that it sweeps normal people into its maelstrom and carries them along to places they never imagined they’d be. I clearly remember munching a granola bar one morning in Iraq when my Marines saw a man sneaking toward us with an AK-47. After giving the order to shoot him, I went back to my breakfast.
Kent Johnson, in his collection Lyric Poetry After Auschwitz, takes these contrasts even further. In his title poem, even the most sadistic abusers do indeed troop in yawning. Five corn-fed American guards at Abu Ghraib greet their Iraqi prisoners: “What’s up, Ramal, I’m an American boy, a father, two children, graduate of Whitman High,” or “Hi there, Hajaz, I’m an American girl, former Vice-President of the Heartland High Young Democrats and Captain of our Regional Championship pom-pom squad.” After the innocent introductions, each fictional soldier cuts to the chase: “But I’m going to fuck you in the ass now with a fluorescent light tube, you sorry-assed, primitive thug,” and “Look at the camera when I talk to you, asshole, or I’ll go get the dog.”
The proclivity for wanton destruction is hardly a phenomenon of modern warfare. Johnson’s opening poem, “Mission,” describes a force of Greeks setting sail from Pylos for Asia, stopping along the way to write poems and rest near a waterfall.
We spoke in low voices of the beauty around us, of the dark, darting trout, and of the strange, haunting songs in the towering trees. We spoke of time, and friendship, and truth. Then each of us drank deeply from the pool.
Aided by the gods, we stormed Smyrna, and burned its profane temples to the ground.
How many American platoons have relaxed in the shade, playing cards, then said a prayer together, gone out on patrol, and killed a dozen people in an ambush? It’s not good or bad. In war, it just is, and always has been.
Don’t believe, however, that combat isn’t deeply felt by warriors. Consider U.S. Army Sergeant Brian Turner. He distilled his year in Iraq into a haunting book of poems titled Here, Bullet. Turner initially kept his work to himself because he didn't want his men to think he was writing about “flowers and stuff.” One of my favorites is titled “Ashbah,” Arabic for “ghosts.”
The ghosts of American soldiers wander the streets of Balad by night, unsure of their way home, exhausted, the desert wind blowing trash down the narrow alleys as a voice sounds from the minaret, a soulful call reminding them how alone they are, how lost. And the Iraqi dead, they watch in silence from rooftops as date palms line the shore in silhouette, leaning toward Mecca when the dawn wind blows.
Having walked Iraq’s streets by night and felt that dawn wind bending the palms, I get lost when I read Turner’s verse. His words are worth a thousand pictures, and they take me right back. My memories are mostly sentence fragments now, rather than chapters, or even paragraphs. A boy with a bellyful of bullets. Birdsong in the palms. The taste of fear, like a penny on your tongue. Flames in the night sky. More than mere scene-setting, Turner captures the feel of the place, the sheer forlorn emptiness of it.
Jim Webb (now the junior senator from Virginia) begins his classic Vietnam novel Fields of Fire with a lament from an anonymous general to newspaper correspondent Arthur Hadley: “And who are the young men we are asking to go into action against such solid odds? You’ve met them. You know. They are the best we have. But they are not McNamara’s sons, or Bundy’s. I doubt they’re yours. And they know that they’re at the end of the pipeline. That no one cares. They know.”
Soldiers and Marines today know it as well. Yellow ribbons and flag-waving aren’t much. Even aboard a commercial flight on a bright day, I know it too. If, in two hours, a bomb goes off on the airport road, or if, tonight, a lucky mortar round falls into the camp, no one will cry except my family. Despite the very real comradeship and teamwork, soldiering is, in the end, the loneliest of professions.
Maybe this explains the solemn solidarity that exists between warriors and civilians who’ve lived through war. They have more in common with each other than with their counterparts who’ve only known peace.
Sinan Antoon studied at Baghdad University before moving to the United States after the 1991 Gulf War. We stood on opposite sides of a chasm: I was a combatant, and he was a civilian. But Antoon understands war’s egalitarian nature: that it often doesn’t matter which end of the gun we’re on.
In “A Prisoner’s Song,” Antoon writes of a POW returning from captivity after the Iran-Iraq war:
from the distant fog after communiqués had withered and cannons stopped spitting he returned soaked with the “there” his silence an umbrella under our ululation he passed by us through us to his old room
No family member of a returning combat veteran can read those lines and not recognize, viscerally, the silence of the “there.” Antoon touches another universal theme in “Sifting,” a poem of but 12 words:
my eyes are two sieves sifting in piles of others for you
A husband scanning a crowd of refugees for his wife? Maybe a sister seeking her brother in a line of captured soldiers? Or how about a young Marine at a checkpoint? He’s desperately searching for the tell-tale bulge of a suicide vest, a nearly hopeless task since he’s looking not for a known face among strangers, but for a phantom among shades.
Like Antoon, Dunya Mikhail fled Iraq in the 1990s. The title poem in her collection, The War Works Hard (winner of a 2004 PEN Translation Fund Award), turns President Bush’s oft-repeated phrase on its head.
How magnificent the war is! How eager and efficient! . . . The war continues working, day and night. It inspires tyrants to deliver long speeches, awards medals to generals and themes to poets. It contributes to the industry of artificial limbs, provides food for flies, adds pages to the history books, achieves equality between killer and killed, teaches lovers to write letters, accustoms young women to waiting, fills the newspapers with articles and pictures, builds new houses for the orphans, invigorates the coffin makers, gives grave diggers a pat on the back and paints a smile on the leader’s face. The war works with unparalleled diligence! Yet no one gives it a word of praise.
As the plane drops toward the runway, into surface-to-air missile range, I realize the poems have indeed prompted reflection. My heart’s beating faster, and I’m thinking of Turner’s wind, Antoon’s sifting eyes, and Mikhail’s working war.
They remind me where I’ve been, and make me wonder why the hell I’ve come back.

this weeks newsletter is late and for that i apologize
Weekly Recap:
Two days after announcing his retirement, Rick Nash and his family dropped the ceremonial puck at the January 13 matchup between the visiting New York Rangers and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Nash had previously played for both teams.
Montreal Canadiens mascot Youppi! celebrated his 40th birthday at the Bell Centre on Saturday. The party was attended by some of his friends and fellow mascots. Youppi! originally debuted in 1979 as the mascot for the now defunct Montreal Expos, a baseball team who became the Washington Nationals in 2005. The Montreal Canadiens adopted Youppi! after his team relocated.
On Saturday, the Los Angeles Kings hosted special guest announcer and longtime hockey fan, Snoop Dogg. Snoop Dogg also provided a play-by-play as the first period winded down. Prior to the game, Snoop Dogg spent some time DJing from the crowd and even dropped the ceremonial puck. Snoop Dogg was the unofficial host of All-Star Weekend in 2017.
On Wednesday, the NHL and NHLPA released a joint statement announcing that there will not be a 2020 World Cup of Hockey. The statement claims that it is just not feasible within the schedule.
Harrison Browne dropped the ceremonial puck at Madison Square Garden for the New York Rangers Pride Night on Tuesday. Browne played three seasons in the NWHL with the Metropolitan Riveters and the Buffalo Beauts before retiring after last season. He now works with the You Can Play Project as a consultant.
Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has allegedly waived his no move clause with the Columbus Blue Jackets; since this report was made public, he has refused to comment. Bobrovsky is eligible for unrestricted free agency on July 1 and many experts and analysts think the Blue Jackets are considering trading him before the February 25 trade deadline.
Taylor Hall of the New Jersey Devils will miss All-Star Weekend due to an lower-body injury. He will be replaced by teammate Kyle Palmieri.
Play of the Week:
Goaltender Carter Hart stopped a shot from forward Ryan Donato by stealing the puck straight off the blade of his stick during the January 16 meeting between the Philadelphia Flyers and the visiting Boston Bruins.
Players to Watch:
Defenceman Morgan Rielly of the Toronto Maple Leafs currently has 13 goals and 48 points in 47 games played this season. Rielly has a career total of 44 goals and 219 points in 435 games.
Forward Kevin Hayes of the New York Rangers currently has 10 goals and 33 points in 39 games played this season. Hayes has a career total of 83 goals and 207 points in 349 games played.
Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury of the Las Vegas Golden Knights currently leads the league in Wins (27) and Shutouts (6). In addition to his 27 wins, he also has 4 overtime, OT, losses this season. He has a career total of 431 wins, 74 OT losses, and 54 shutouts.

Raddysh also participated in the IIHF World Junior Championship two years in a row, winning silver in 2016-17 and gold in 2017-18. Raddysh currently plays for the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League.
Team of the Week:
The Toronto Maple Leafs, founded in 1917 as the Toronto Arenas, currently play from Scotiabank Arena and are 2nd in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The Maple Leafs were the Arenas until 1919 when the name was changed to the St. Patricks; when Conn Smythe bought the franchise in 1927, he rebranded the team as the Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs played out of Maple Leaf Gardens, called ‘Canada’s Cathedral of Hockey’, from 1931-99. The Maple Leafs have won 13 Stanley Cups, most recently in 1966-67. Notable alumni include King Clancy, Tim Horton, Mats Sundin, Doug Gilmour, Joe Primeau, and Curtis Joseph.

The American Hockey League All-Star Classic will be hosted by the Springfield Thunderbirds January 27-28.
The East Coast Hockey League All-Star Game and Skills Competition will take place on January 21 in Toledo, hosted by the Toledo Walleye.
Weekly Thoughts:
*** There are no Weekly Thoughts this week. I’ve been sick and haven’t had time to write anything for this section. I might try to do a special post at some point this week to make up for it, though.
Weekly Vocabulary:
Fight Strap: A strap that anchors a player’s jersey to his pads so that his jersey cannot be removed during on-ice fights. If a player does not anchor his jersey and it comes off in a fight, he incurs a penalty.
Forechecking: Checking in the offensive zone in order to gain control of the puck and set up a scoring opportunity.
Backchecking: Rushing back to the defensive zone in response to an opposing team's attack.
Hat Trick: When a single player scores three goals in one game. A hat trick is considered a ‘natural’ hat trick if all three goals are scored successively.
Gordie Howe Hat Trick: Named after the great Gordie Howe, a Gordie Howe Hat Trick is when a player scores a goal, tallies an assist, and gets into a fight all in one game. (I do have to note that Gordie Howe himself only ever had two Gordie Howe Hat Tricks throughout his career.) A ‘natural’ Gordie Howe Hat Trick occurs when all three happen in a single period.
Line Brawl: When most, if not all, of the players currently on ice are engaged in some form of scuffle.
Weekly Trivia:
The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is awarded to the “player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community." The winner is selected by the NHLPA and the NHL Broadcasters’ Association. Most recently the trophy was awarded to Daniel and Henrik Sedin; this was the first time to trophy was awarded to more than one player.

TØP Weekly Update #68: Good For Our Souls (10/24/18)
Tumblr media
Things are finally settling down as much as they possibly can at a time where Twenty One Pilots is actively touring. That’s still pretty darn busy, though, so let’s get into it!
This Week’s TØPics:
New Tour Date Announcement
New Interviews
TØP Visits a St. Louis Children’s Hospital
Trench Down but Not Out on the Charts
And MORE!
Major News and Announcements:
Tumblr media
We had one more date added to the Bandito Tour, as Mexico City receives an additional date on the tour. That’s no real surprise: they had a free day open, the Sports Palace can fit 26,000 folks in a single night, and folks in Mexico (and every country south of there) have relatively few chances to see the band live. Get to them tickets quick!
The coolest bit of news from this week, which came out just after I posted last week’s Update, is that Tyler and Josh visited a children’s hospital in St. Louis for the first time after a few of the kids who couldn’t attend the concert put together a video request. Tyler played “WDBWOTV” on the uke, and the two spoke with several of the kids. Everything I’ve seen and read from the people who were there just fills my heart with such joy. The fact that they did this the day of a show so early in the tour speaks volumes; touring at the pace they do is an extreme investment of time and energy, and the band has spoken many times about how they usually don’t even get to see the cities outside of the venues they play. They really didn’t have to go this extra mile, and the fact that they visited these kids speaks volumes about their characters.
Interviews, Performances, and Other Shenanigans:
Tumblr media
Not really any major performance news- the show remains as awesome as we reported on it last week, but with little-to-no changes in format from city to city. The show in Cleveland was, as predicted, heavily attended by his family, resulting in Tyler actually crying on-stage and giving an emotional tribute to his sister and baby niece for “My Blood”.
We did get a whole host of new interviews. The most notable from a content standpoint is Tyler’s thoughtful explanation of the new ||-// logo in a meet-and-greet Q&A (a rare straightforward answer from Tyler, likely because it was to a fan rather than an industry person).
Josh has increasingly been trotted out as the sole interviewee. My favorite is this interview with Josh for 105.7 St. Louis, in which he gets pretty open with his struggle with anxiety. He also gave a great interview in Chicago with 103.5 KISS FM, where he talks with enthusiastic fan Rufio for 15 minutes about why he stopped playing the cajone, what long-distance collaboration with Tyler was like, and who that Clancy guy is (“I haven’t met him.”) The peak is Josh’s Mt. Rushmore of music, which is... basically what you’d expect knowing Josh.
Tyler still comes along for the occasional interview, like for this mini-podcast in Milwaukee and this well-produced video in St. Paul. We’re at the point where there aren’t too many new questions. The former has Tyler talking a bit about how the Top 40 breakthrough affected them and their decision to take a break, while the latter features Tyler revealing his Fortnite strats, Josh unveiling his hair color selection process, and Tyler refusing to do a dad dance. This interviewer in Cleveland just seemed very thirsty for Josh, though they also discussed Tyler’s choice of “bandito” and playing ukulele at a show called the Save Rock and Roll Tour (Fall Out Boy who?).
Detroit’s Alt 106.7 managed to sneak Tyler’s dad Chris on to answer a few embarrassing questions (YES). Another excellent interview with Detroit station 98.7 has Tyler talking about how watching escapist fantasy movies really inspired him for the last album, doubling down on Nico!Blurryface existing before the mathematician group, and the meaning of “Sahlo Folina”. Oh, and he says we missed something... something important... what a little...
Chart Performance:
As expected, the band once again drops off the Hot 100, as sales for Trench fell by over 60% in its second week. That said, things weren’t all glum on the Billboard charts; all of the album’s songs remain on the Hot Rock Chart even after the drop, and “My Blood” continues to see gains at radio and remains the best commercially performing Twenty One Pilots song of the week.
Upcoming Performances:
Tumblr media
It’s going to be another eventful week of touring, so let’s look into what to expect
Show 8: TD Gardens, Boston, MA (10/26)
Capacity: 19,500
Tumblr media
Tonight’s show will see the boys return to Boston for the first time since 2016 to play its most famous venue, the home of the Celtics, Boston Gardens (no one calls it TD). Expect Tyler to make some basketball joke. ...That’s all I got for this one.
Show 9: Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale, NY (10/27)
Capacity: 16,800
Tumblr media
The first of two shows this week in the New York metropolitan area, Twenty One Pilots will visit the newly renovated Nassau Coliseum in Long Island. The band will almost certainly visit certain media outlets like Sirius XM while they’re in the ol’ Big Applesauce sometime this week, either around this show or the next.
Show 10: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, PA (10/28)
Capacity: 19,500
Tumblr media
Remarkably, the band has never played a full arena show in one of the United States’ biggest cities. That changes this week, when the band plays the Wells Fargo Center, home of... Gritty... oh no...
Show 11: Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NY (10/30)
Capacity: 20,000
Tumblr media
The band returns to one of the world’s most iconic venues for the first time since their iconic two night act back in the Emotional Roadshow. Inconvenience aside (They really couldn’t get two consecutive shows in NYC? Damn Knicks), this should be another great show. Will we get any moments that can compare to the “We Did It” speech? Ball’s in your court, Mr. Joseph.
Show 12: Capital One Arena, Washington, DC (10/31)
Capacity: 20,000
Tumblr media
To wrap up the week, the band returns to the U.S. capital for the first time since they kicked off the North American Blurryface Tour there in 2015. It’ll be their first arena show in the market. Expect a reference to the Capitals’ Stanley Cup victory. Oh, and it’s HALLOWEEN! Sure to be a real spookfest with all those Banditos out to play.
-
That’s all for this week! Just a heads up: the Trench review roundup probably ain’t happening until the Year-End recap- PhD work is making it hard enough as it is. But coming back to these things every week keeps me motivated, and I just love doing it. Power to the local dreamer.

Jumanji: The Next Level Filming Locations – Top Movie Locations
Huge answers today they put the letter in and Trump followed him to Dollar general instead of watching the letter or trying to get the letter out because it was where Sarah was so he's trying to see something that you people don't obey that and now you don't get it and BJ's hammering on you.
Secondly this movie is crazy it's all over the world these guys go everywhere it seems like cruiser following each other but it's very militaristic and it's Clancy Brown and he gets a lot further than everyone else of course and they have training and a very dangerous and deadly actually and we have to stop them all the time cold or else it's problem what they're after an artifacts and kaju and so forth that are kind of stranded they all are and they compete and they do get in trouble with each other quite often there's another reason why they're doing it and it's a distraction and it's from the main show which is the blockade and other stuff in the dragon rebel surround but really there lighting it up and don't understand it it's causing a lot of interest in these artifacts by foreign entities because they're real and they are seeking them one of them is the rock that's in the sewer out in front of our son's house and the guy's name is possibly from it we think it is because it has to do with the wall and Brad and he wants to break through it by getting a whole bunch of it and breaks to the bunkers too A lot of people do and they want to take s*** from the stone to Stone from the ships too if they can get to him and Corky is out there drilling in the UK
It's only October it's not far away I know it's not I see what you're saying
So we get into the main part she needs it too she's tired of being alone and we have friends around and say hi and stuff but really it's in space and starting to bother her
It says he's here with her and she hears him so it's good
There's a few things going on she said she's ready go ahead
We have huge huge ships coming from foreign countries and from the max and they're all going out there and they're all fighting it is the multiple reasons why it's happening and one of them is to try and send it on top of a shatteredome. We're forced to out there and forced to intercept them. And these people are mean and till the end of the day it's such a pain.
About 10 fleets from each side and 20 each in space it's roughly balanced so we are preparing for war with all of them in case and we do see what the same now shipping has been held up for some time now and they're forcing us to make things because they just stop making them but it's causing us to an infiltrate soon they won't have anything no manufacturing at all for ships or anything and they become very dangerous and that's what they want they say so we're going to prep for it right now they're all running to Boston cuz they want the robots and they seen them and it is a huge huge debacle there's so many people Shane giant crowds come on just giant okay about 15 septillion an hour and by the end of the night almost everybody is going to be there probably no they're coming here to Florida and he wants them out of here the ball and him him for us the ball will fall and then he says Star wars will be on and we need that we do need that now something for them to fight over I'm putting it to Olympus right now he wants it out tonight it's way too much pressure and not enough he does not preempted at all or lit up at all
Thor Freya
Olympus we prep for it and we're ready for it today I'm going to try for it tonight the train should be here a momentarily it's going to suck tons of them out of here and everybody needs it it's going to go right by Ken and that's what the whole movie is about the video of his if they just go right by and you grabs them all. And they're staying there by train that was there first the other one comes later and of course all those Mac star the people in that video are dead shortly after

THE CLANCY WORLD TOUR BOSTON NIGHT ONE 🫶🎵|-/
[spoilers below]
okay, so, the show was fucking EPIC, and it was definitely the best concert ive ever been to. itd be hard to beat that. the setlist, which i hadnt really listened to much due to my confidence in knowing every lyric of theirs, surprised me with bangers i forgot about and it was definitely a great lineup of songs.
during car radio, tyler does a little stunt and goes out into the crowd. AND GUESS WHERE HE WAS. NEXT TO ME!!! so uh if you were at that show, hi, i was the one crying in the background on the screen👋
the lights were incredible, beautiful beautiful effects and visualizers, and, of course, the stadium was literally bouncing!!! there was fire shot up, smoke, and loud explosions, so sound warning for anyone going whose not gone yet and has read this far.
i saw so many good outfits, so many cool and friendly looking people. the clique is genuinely such a loving fandom.
not much else to add, but i will for sure post pictures once ive sorted & edited some.
love you, stay alive |-/

They call him ‘Wilde Man’. Rumor has it he’s an animal on the ice and between the sheets.
Like the rest of the female population, I’ve been crushing on Clancy Wilde, the captain of Boston University’s hockey team, since the first time I saw him. Big, blond, and charming, he ticks all the boxes.
When we find ourselves at a wedding, drunk and flirting, I know I can finally check this tattooed, bad boy, hockey player off my wish list.

The Year in Celebrity Bagel Drama
Despite the wild popularity of crepe towers, banana split sundae croissants, and Russian honey cakes, the humble bagel was the breakfast option that kept making headlines throughout 2018. Some celebrities attracted the attention of gossip sites with their unusual bagel-ordering habits, while other famous people told surprising stories on late night shows that involved the old roll-with-a-hole. Here’s a look back at the year in celebrity bagel drama.
Kendall’s New Year’s bagel revelation
Tumblr media
Getty Images
As the clock ticked down to midnight on New Year’s Eve 2017, model/reality TV star Kendall Jenner was embroiled in a bagel-related controversy. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star had shared a photo of herself wearing a tight, midsection-hugging party dress, prompting some Instagram users to question whether she was trying to tell the world that she was pregnant (this is often how members of the Kardashian clan announce these big life changes). During the last moments of 2017, Jenner shared a message to her fans, setting the record straight: “i just like bagels ok!!!” This oddball intersection of celebrity drama and bagel fixation would set the tone for the year to come.
The time Jim from ‘The Office’ got bagel bombed
America’s TV boyfriend, John Krasinski, had an incredible year, becoming both the new Jack Ryan in a televised Tom Clancy series, and the writer/director/star of one of 2018’s biggest hits, A Quiet Place. But things weren’t always so rosy for the Hollywood hero. Many years ago, when he was a lowly intern at 30 Rock in New York City, the Boston native was the victim of some carbohydrate-related bullying from a complete stranger. “I was wearing a Nomar Garciaparra jersey,” Krasinski told Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show in April. “I was walking along about to get lunch and just something hit me in the back of the head. It was a full, cream cheese bagel.” The actor concluded that the bagel bomb was hurled from a “taxi going like 20 miles an hour.” Clearly, this incident still haunts Krasinski till this day.
Bieb’s sad Brooklyn bagel run
In August, Sleazcore couple du jour Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin surprised guests at Frankel’s, a neo-delicatessen in Brooklyn, by gracing the bagel shop with their mopey presence. After placing their order, the couple proceeded to shuffle around the store, their arms draped around each other in a loose embrace. Guests were clearly weirded out by their demeanor, and Instagram users also questioned why they looked so sad and/or zonked out during this bagel run, prompting one commenter to remark, “They look miserable.” But, strange though it may seem, this might just be what true love looks like between an international pop mega-star and a runway model in 2018: Justin and Hailey got married just a few months after these photos were taken.
The bagel order heard round the world
Tumblr media
Getty Images for PRIDE MEDIA
On Sunday, September 9, Sex and the City actress-turned-politician Cynthia Nixon placed an order at famed Manhattan market Zabar’s that would send shockwaves throughout the bagel-loving community. In an interaction that was surreptitiously caught on camera by Gothamist, Nixon ordered a cinnamon-raisin bagel stuffed with cream cheese, capers, tomatoes, onions, and lox. This combination, which she referred to as “a full load,” only has one element that throws people off: the sweet bread hugging all of those traditionally savory ingredients. And yet, the New York Post found this melange of textures and flavors to be outrageous enough to earn the title of “strangest bagel of all time,” while a Food & Wine staffer called it ”basically criminal.”
Nixon tried to change the conversation by owning up to the order on Twitter and urging her fans to donate to her campaign for Governor of New York, but this move didn’t stop the Twitter snarking about Nixon’s breakfast of choice. Later that week, she lost the primary race to Andrew Cuomo.
The bagel surprise of the year
Tumblr media
Getty Images for IEBA
Although Ice-T has spent much of the last two decades filming a New York-based cop procedural, last month, the rapper-turned-actor revealed that he somehow had never tried one of the quintessential NYC foods — the bagel — until he filmed a recent scene on Law and Order: SVU. This detail was revealed on Twitter, when the celebrity responded to a fan’s inquiry about his favorite bagel variety by tweeting, “Lol. I’ve never eaten a Bagel in my life...” A few hours later, after many Twitter users had expressed their shock and disbelief at this revelation, Ice-T told fans, “White people.. Don’t lose your Fn minds because I’ve never eaten a Bagle [sic].. Take it easy.... lol.” During a Tonight Show appearance a few weeks later, Ice-T explained why he’d never tried a bagel before this year: “I’m from South Central. Can you imagine Snoop singing, ‘Rolling down the street smokin’ indo eating some lox and bagels?’”
And in other bagel news...
Twitter users found the original sketch of the bagel emoji to be hilarious, but the revised edition — which featured cream cheese and a craggily surface — was a much bigger hit. Former New York Times critic Mimi Sheraton incurred the wrath of Montreal bagel lovers by tweeting that eating their local speciality was “like chewing broken glass.” And speaking of Montreal, that city’s Plateau-Mont-Royal borough imposed a ban on wood-fired ovens, but thankfully, ancient bagel shops like St-Viateur (pictured above, with Adam Sandler and his family) and Fairmount Bagel are exempt from this piece of legislation — long may they reign.

Prime members ordered 2 billion products for one-day or faster delivery this year
In Amazon’s year-end wrap-up released on Monday, the retailer offered details about its best-selling products of 2018, as well as a few new metrics related to its delivery business. The company said that Prime members worldwide this year ordered more than 2 billion products for one-day or faster delivery, and that more new members signed up for Prime in 2018 than in years prior.
That latter metric has been fairly consistent – Amazon said the same in its 2017 wrap-up, as well.
While the retailer had historically kept the number of Prime members under wraps, that changed this April when Amazon announced a milestone of passing 100 million Prime members worldwide, which it cited again today.
Amazon last year had also offered some figures related to its Prime shipping business, but had then focused on its two-day delivery service. In 2017, over 5 billion items were shipping with Prime worldwide.
It’s notable then, in the course of a year, that Prime’s one-day or faster shipping is now nearing half the size of Prime two-day.
However, Amazon did not say how many total Prime deliveries were made this year, nor did it break-out its two-day figures. (We’ve asked and will update this is shared.) It said that one-day and same-day delivery is now available across 8,000 cities and towns, while two-hour delivery now reaches over 30 major cities. The traditional Prime two-day shipping, meanwhile, is available across 100 million items, Amazon also said.
These are the same figures Amazon reported last year, we should note.
However, Amazon’s focus in 2018 was more so on its grocery delivery business via Whole Foods, which is now available in over 60 cities across the U.S. and still expanding. The top markets for Whole Foods delivery this year were Austin, San Francisco, and Boston, the retailer said.
Amazon detailed its top-sellers across product categories, too, and offered a few other figures related to its efforts in video, music, reading, and more.
Most notably, its investment in bringing NFL live streams to Prime Video reached 20 million total viewers across over 200 countries and all 50 U.S. states, across the 9 Thursday Night Football games. Last year, the 10 games it streamed reached 18 million viewers, so there’s been a slight increase here.
Its most-binged Prime Original series worldwide to date were Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan starring John Krasinski and Homecoming starring Julia Roberts.
It also said that its top-selling product in the U.S. was the Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote, followed by the Echo Dot. Both got a big bump thanks to Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday week discounts. The Dot was also the top seller during the Black Friday-Cyber Monday weekend.

Backchecking: Rushing back to the defensive zone in response to an opposing team’s attack.
The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is awarded to the “player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.“ The winner is selected by the NHLPA and the NHL Broadcasters’ Association. Most recently the trophy was awarded to Daniel and Henrik Sedin; this was the first time to trophy was awarded to more than one player.

In Amazon’s year-end wrap-up released on Monday, the retailer offered details about its best-selling products of 2018, as well as a few new metrics related to its delivery business. The company said that Prime members worldwide this year ordered more than 2 billion products for one-day or faster delivery – the first time it’s shared numbers for faster-than-two-day delivery – and that more new members signed up for Prime in 2018 than in years prior.
(We’ve asked, and it declined to share those numbers.) Instead, it touted the expanded reach of its faster-than-two-day delivery offerings, including Prime Now (two-hour), Prime one-day, and Prime same-day.
It said that one-day and same-day delivery is now available across 8,000 cities and towns, while two-hour delivery now reaches over 30 major cities.
