ZOOTOPIA ;; (inspiration Zootopie/la planète des singes.)

Il y a bien longtemps sont apparus les thérianthropes, des êtres prodigieux pouvant se transformer en animaux. Les humains craignant ce don, décidèrent de chasser les thérianthropes et de les réduire en esclavage. Mais un jour, une thérianthrope se leva, elle osa dire non à l’oppression des humains ; cette thérianthrope se nommait : Oya. Elle se révolta contre l’humanité et guida son peuple vers la liberté, tandis que l’humanité se dirigeait vers sa chute. Cette l’histoire est celle de ses descendants.

Des siècles après, on entend ce conte exaltant. Celui d’une révolution, celui d’une libération, est-ce vrai ou non ? Ça n’a que peu d’importance, désormais les thérianthropes dominent la terre, tandis que les humains ont été relégués au second plan. 

La cité de Zootopia est idéalisée par tous, pour son aspect moderne et utopique, la promesse est simple et séduisante : n’importe qui, qu’il soit thérianthrope ou humain peut devenir la personne qu’il souhaite.

Malheureusement la réalité n’est pas aussi rose, des siècles après la chute de l’humanité, les injustices perdurent : des injustices entre humains et thérianthropes et des injustices entre thérianthropes. Zootopia est loin du rêve d’égalité et d’harmonie qu’avait formulé Oya, cependant certains n’ont pas abandonné ce rêve et luttent pour une égalité réelle à Zootopia.

Aujourd’hui deux visions de l’avenir s’affrontent à Zootopia : une société inégalitaire et injuste ou bien une société harmonieuse et juste, où tout le monde aurait sa place. Zootopia est sur le point de changer et chaque citoyen à la possibilité d’avoir un rôle à jouer dans ce changement.

Zootopia est un projet de forum RPG city/science-fiction, qui s’inspire du film éponyme de Disney mais aussi de la planète des singes. Il est possible d’y incarner un simple humain mais aussi un thérianthrope : une personne pouvant se changer en un animal. Le thème de fond se concentre sur la cohabitation entre humains et thérianthropes, cependant c’est un forum city et je crois qu’il est important de laisser au joueur faire le personnage qu’il souhaite (dans la mesure du possible.)

Zootopia s’inspire donc beaucoup de la planète des singes (surtout du roman), dans le roman les raisons de la chute de l’humanité ne sont pas mentionnées ; cependant les singes ont pu évoluer et atteindre un niveau technologique similaire à celui des humains ; Zootopia reprend ce postulat. Hormis quelques technologies plus avancées, la technologie présente dans la ville est l’équivalent de ce qu’on trouvait en 2024. Zootopia est un reflet de l’ancien monde, dans un monde devenu chaotique.

After the release of the mini series, I've started to slip back into my dormant Zootopia hyperfixation, and boy let me tell you, it's one of THE HARDEST fandoms to find content that interests me.

Why?

Because 97% of it is just Judy Hopps/Nick Wilde shipping. All of it. Fanart, fanfics, it's just the shipping.

What drew me to Zootopia was the worldbuilding aspect and the animals who live in that world. Just... this entire city filled with so many different species that was architecturally designed to fit ALL OF THEM no matter what climate they're from or size they are. That just fascinated me!

Yet all the fanfics don't really explore all that. I can count the number of fanfics I've read about regular people on one hand. There's the one about the therapy sessions for the animals who got affected by the Savage Predator crisis, the one about the tiger and the rabbit single mom who had several chance encounters and became friends, and........ actually, that's it.

I dunno, I guess I'd rather read about a mouse being roommates with an elephant or something, how would that work? What are their lives like? Or maybe I just want to read something about the struggles of the leopard who runs a small cosy coffee shop having to compete with the Snarlbucks across the street (yes, that is the canon name for Starbucks in the Zootopia universe. That's another part of the worldbuilding I like, all the brands have animal pun names and I find it unreasonably hilarious) Or maybe an animal moving to one of the districts that is NOT a climate they can comfortably live in and having to make do with it, all because they put the needs of their best friend (aka an animal that does live in the climate they moved into) above their own.

Just simple slice of life stuff.

I have this entire slice of life fanfic idea in my brain that I'll probably never get around to writing that has pretty much zero canon characters in it at all. It has an entire cast of OCs just because I liked daydreaming about how the regular citizens of Zootopia of all shapes and sizes live their lives.

What if, every furry/anthro series or movie was the Hidden City of the region it's based in?? Like Neo Edo(Samurai Rabbit) is one of Japan's Hidden Cities, ZooTopia could be under Hollywood(I know its based of New York, but the Big Apple is taken obviously), Kung Fu Panda could be under China and so on and so further!!

Les thérianthropes

La thérianthropie désigne la capacité à se changer en animaux, un peu comme la lycanthropie. Si dans l’ancien monde la thérianthropie a été considérée comme une anomalie, aujourd’hui elle est la norme.

Les thérianthropes sont apparus il y a 900 ans, avec l’apparition d’un virus ; l’apparition des thérianthropes marque le début du grand désastre. Avec le temps le virus muta et devint mortel pour beaucoup d’humains, tuant ou transformant en thérianthropes énormément d’humains. Aujourd’hui les humains qui restent sont les descendants des immunisés et ne craignent plus le virus.

Comment ça marche ?

Contrairement aux loups garous qui ont besoin de la lune pour se transformer, les thérianthropes n’en ont pas besoin et peuvent se transformer à tout moment. Les thérianthropes de Zootopia sont inspirés du fonctionnement des zoans de One Piece, c’est à dire qu’ils ont trois formes : 

Une forme humaine par défaut.

Une forme animale.

Et une forme hybride, entre l’humain et l’animal.

La transformation est rapide et n’est pas douloureuse, sauf la première. La première transformation survient à l’âge de 4 ans, c’est toujours un grand moment. Un thérianthrope hérite sa forme animale d’un de ses parents, c'est-à-dire que si un des parents est un tigre et l’autre un lion, l’enfant aura pour forme animale un tigre ou un lion mais jamais un ligre.

Les thérianthropes ont une espérance de vie plus élevée que les humains, ils peuvent vivre jusqu’à 200 ans et vieillissent donc moins vite. Dernière info, on reconnaît un thérianthrope d’un humain, par ses oreilles pointues.

Ce qu’on ne peut pas faire.

Les formes animales indisponibles sont : 

Les animaux préhistoriques.

Les animaux mythologiques.

Les animaux marins (donc qui ne peuvent vivre que dans l’eau.)

Les insectes.

Il n’y a pas de forme animale unique, il peut exister des milliers de thérianthropes loups.

Les latents et les hybrides.

La latence est un phénomène encore mystérieux à ce jour. Les latents sont des thérianthropes dont la transformation n’arrive jamais à l’âge de 4 ans, les latents n’arrivent pas à se transformer après ; le regard de la société envers les latents varie certains thérianthropes les voient comme des étrangetés, d’autres les prennent en pitié. S'ils sont reconnus comme thérianthropes légalement, ils souffrent souvent des mêmes discriminations que les humains. Il arrive que certains latents arrivent plus tard à se transformer, à l’adolescence ou à l’âge adulte, mais d’autres ne sortent jamais de la latence, ils sont donc rejetés par beaucoup de thérianthropes. 

Les hybrides sont les personnes issus d’une relation entre un humain et un thérianthrope, ils sont assez rares car ce genre de relation est très mal considérée, eux ne se distinguent pas des humains à première vue mais grâce à leur parent thérianthrope ils peuvent se transformer en un animal, ils sont également reconnus comme thérianthropes.

Le nectar.

Annoncé il y a 5 ans par les scientifiques de Zootopia, le nectar est un projet de sérum qui permettrait de déclencher la thérianthropie. Cela permettrait aux humains qui le souhaitent d’accéder au statut de thérianthropes et aux latents de ne plus être latents. L’annonce du projet à diviser la population, certains sont pour le nectar et pensent que le nectar pourrait aider le plus grand nombre, d’autres sont contre souvent par conservatisme.

Marketing did Elemental DIRTY

Just saw the movie, it was well worth the watch. The trailer made the movie look like some half assed race metaphor Zootopia ripoff with a canned, rehashed love story you've seen a million times.

Let me be clear, Elemental was none of the things the trailer made you believe it was.

First things first, The Romance:

There's a reason aro/ace people are flocking to this movie. The main couple falls in love without having to rely on any passionate kisses or hand holding; they fall for each other based on who they are, their personalities, their interests, their appreciation of the other's uniqueness. The central hand holding comes at a point in the movie well after the two are established as a couple, and have gone on many dates together. This movie makes their characters fall in love over mutual appreciation, not physical chemistry, and its such a genuine, sweet, wholesome romance to see play out

On top of that, this movie goes into a lot of aspects of immigrant life and the expectations that come with being a first born in a new country. The romance does not shy away from this or sweep it under the rug. The romance blossoms as the two learn more about each other, and come to understand and respect those differences.

Second, the movie isn't about romance, its about being an immigrant.

I came into this movie expecting zootopia 2: now with elements, and what I got was a heart-wrenching look into the life of a first generation child in a new land, born to immigrant parents. The movie absolutely does NOT sugar coat things, showing not only an ellis island moment of having your name changed, but also a number of topics ranging from having to navigate in a city made for people who are nothing like you, being denied housing, micro-aggressions, and straight up being denied entry to public places based on who you are.

The true heart of this movie is about the child of immigrants realizing the life she wants for herself, struggling with disappointing people who gave up everything they had so they could give you a better life, repaying that sacrifice and what a burden it feels like, and somehow facing the truth of who and what is staring back at you from the mirror.

Third, and lastly, the movie is absolutely beautiful

The trailers did this movie dirty. You never saw the refracting lights from firelight streaming through water, you didn't see the glassblowing, or how the fire dies down to barely a wisp when Ember is sad to burning like a wildfire when she's angry. You didn't see the scene underwater with the tree and |Spoilers|, you didn't see the world building or the character design that went into the background characters. This movie is absolutely beautiful, and uses light as both a visual treat and a metaphor for the movie's themes. Its absolutely gorgeous.

So, if you're wondering whether to skip this movie or watch it, I'm telling you now: ignore the trailers and go see this in theaters.
