Your car may be fancy, but you drive like trash
... yet another day of nearly getting hit by drivers who run red lights. If you drive like this, I hope you die as painfully as possible in a fire

Handitransit Poll
Handitransit is my local term for specialty vehicles that the city provides to pick up people who can't use public transit, usually due to disability.
I'm curious about how common this is, so:

Meet Sarasota’s new urbanists, the Sarasota Mobility Alliance
Young, determined and willing to make a change, Colby Heidke realized that if Sarasota’s transportation was to be more accessible to its residents, the community was going to have to do it themselves. Heidke and New College thesis student Chai Leffler founded the Sarasota (SRQ) Mobility Alliance in February, after finding a shared interest in urban planning and accessibility. Since then, they…

Just a reminder to my European followers that the European Parliament elections are coming up and they are very important! The far-right parties are projected to win a lot of seats and many of the left/environmentalist parties are expected to do poorly.
This could have serious implications for major issues like climate action in the EU. It is very important that young people turn out to vote, EU elections typically have relatively low turnout but the composition of the EU Parliament does impact the lives of people in the European Union in a lot of ways.

People act like "work" that can't be summed up on your W-2 isn't real work. Foraging takes time. And physical labor.
There is an app called Falling Fruit that you can use to find edible trees and shrubs in your neighborhood or city. You can add new trees/shrubs as you find them.

Dear universe, bicycles are not a nuisance. They are a perfectly valid, quiet, and rarely violent means of transportation.
Cars and trucks, on the other hand, are like the AR-15s of the freeway. Maybe, just maybe, we should take a moment and reflect on how many deaths they have caused.

A couple more things to add, that might need to be introduced for people new to the concept
Walkable cities also means infrastructure that's built around the idea of human beings rather than vehicles. This means that, within your neighborhood, you'd find easy access to things like coffee shops, mini-marts for food and the like, and yes, gas stations (it's important to note that a walkable city wouldn't be getting rid of cars, it would just work them into their Actual purpose, long-distance travel).
Also, with a walkable city, problems such as ridiculously long parking lots would no longer be an issue, as the engineering, hopefully, would be designed to promote spaces for People rather than cars. What this also means, is that a lot of loitering laws would need to be dealt with, as loitering laws are vague tools meant to keep human traffic to a minimum inside of the U.S.
There are others, and I might edit this later when I think of them. At the moment I'm too tired.
"Walkable city" is not "City where to have to walk everywhere."
"Walkable city" is.
Sidewalks big enough to fit you, your stroller, your wheelchair, your guide dog, or anything else you need when you're getting from one place to another.
Safe crosswalks frequent enough so you don't need to walk in traffic.
Bike lanes to keep bikes out of foot traffic and car traffic.
Accessible and affordable public transit.
Cities where the essentials are close enough you can travel on foot (or in wheelchair)
Cities where it's reasonable to be able to get from point a to point b without requiring you, yourself, to drive
People get so caught up in the "Walkable" part of the term and like to spout "Walkable cities are abelist because not everyone can walk".
Bitch. The modern city structure is abelist because not everyone can drive. And classist because not everyone can afford a car and it's pretty damn impossible to get a job if you don't have a car.
Walkable cities are cities where people can reasonably get from pointA to pointB without requiring a motor vehicle.
"But fae. Disabled people have issues using the paths in modern cities." Bitch abled people can barely use the paths in modern cities. That's kind of the fucking problem.
Also walkable cities have fucking benches. Not only for disabled people. But sometimes you just twist your ankle and need to sit for a moment.
"Put fae. If you have benches, homeless people will sleep on them."
Then get fucking housing for the homeless. Problem solved. They'll sleep in their nice warm homes instead of on the benches.

sorry idk but the way the world is so fast and the people in it still want it to be faster is sooo annoying to me. people groaning while standing in line for 3 minutes people being mad the train ride is gonna take 2 hours people complaining that the bus is a few minutes late people being angry that construction work is taking months even though it used to take decades. don't you see the world is already so so so fast in every single aspect can't you understand that being mad will do nothing and just make your mood worse. enjoy the moments of stillness you're given. just stand in line and look at the people around you. sit on the train and watch the scenery. you'll get there.
