✧˖*°࿐ABOUT THE AUTHOR
.·:*¨ ailís — 22 — fae/they (okay with girl gendered terms) — bisexual enby ¨*:·.
ꕤ — i’m bilingual, my first language is french but i only write in english (though i might incorporate french in some fics/one shots).
ꕤ — i'm back in school for the first time after dropping out of college four years ago so i'm struggling with keeping my school-work-social-activist life balanced (because yes i also got involved with my university's student committee for Palestine literally during the first week of class). i'm currently a free student, meaning i'm in no particular bachelors program, and i'm hesitating between majoring in art history or photography. i won't be following any posting schedule on here, i write when i have time to and i'm a little bit of a perfectionist so i won't rush myself to fulfill your requests with writing that i'm not satisfied of.
ꕤ — things i like: blueberry bagels with cream cheese, autumn, concert photography, poetry, music (arctic monkeys, lorde, blur, wallows, inhaler, fontaines dc), movies (studio ghibli, nolan’s dark knight trilogy, irish cinema, french cinema), tv shows (peaky blinders, broadchurch, derry girls, true detective, doctor who, the sopranos, new girl), sports (montreal canadiens, liverpool fc, celtic fc, f1), the colour green, europe (but not england or germany), cillian murphy, david tennant, art museums, batman.
ꕤ — i’ve been writing fanfiction for years (it all started with very poorly written one direction imagines on instagram and wattpad when i was thirteen…), improving both my writing skills and my english vocab + grammar along the way. my earliest works available are from 2021 (on ao3) because i’m too ashamed of anything posted before that (and it was also very bad).
ꕤ — i’m very multifandom and will mostly write content related to my most recent hyperfixations. there’s a list down below with all the characters i read and am interested in writing fanfiction for.
✧˖*°࿐WRITING + RULES
ꕤ — this blog will be mostly dedicated to one shots, blurbs, headcanons, drabbles and maybe short series.
i do write long series on wattpad (and also on ao3 but that one is currently on hold). i’m in the middle of a friends series rewrite with a joey tribbiani x female oc storyline that i’m very invested in (this might be the first multi chaptered fanfic i ever complete). i also started writing a tenth doctor x witch oc au but i’m taking much longer to update this one as it will mostly be original episodes instead of following the doctor who storyline. i also have a tommy shelby x oc fic that’s been on hold for a year that i plan on eventually getting back into writing.
ꕤ — i honestly don’t really care about canon (especially when it comes to stuff like the dc universe). i will always respect identity traits that are important to the character like race, sexuality, disability, etc., but i might get ooc sometimes when it comes to their personalities.
ꕤ — i will try to keep my reader inserts as physically vague as possible except if it’s indicated that the reader is afab. however, i am physically disabled with chronic pain so i might incorporate some aspects related to that in my writing (it will be indicated at the beginning of the post).
ꕤ — i am okay with minors interacting with my sfw writings but if i see anyone under the age of 18 interacting with nsfw stuff you will be blocked. i can’t stop you from reading it but i am not comfortable with you interacting with that content.
ꕤ — requests will be answered once i’m done writing them. i will try my best to do so as fast as possible but i tend to write multiple works at once so if you see me post other things after you sent your request, don’t get deterred. if you send a request i don’t want to write, i’ll reply to the ask to also let others know not to request something similar.
ꕤ — do not translate, copy or publish my work on other platforms without my permission.
!! DO NOT REQUEST !!
major character death (canon or non-canon), underage reader or character, incest, any kink involving fluids, noncon/dubcon, self harm, eating disorders, yandere, abuse, manipulation, butt stuff, cheating/infidelity, a/b/o

“Mon coeur me dit…”

Cinema and others arts : Pas de deux, by Norman McLaren
Pas de deux is an experimental short film directed by Norman McLaren in 1968 and produced by the National Film Board of Canada. The film features Margaret Mercier and Vincent Warren, two star dancers from Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, performing a choreography by Ludmilla Chiriaeff in a dark space from which only their bodies and white clothes stand out. The film has no dialogue, no written script, but offers a humanistic message about the necessity of love and sharing.
The particularity of the film is the filmic process by which McLaren records the choreographic movements. In this second blog, we will talk about the intimate link of the film Pas de deux establishes with dance but also with sculpture and painting, and the choreographic reflection on movement. After having evoked his previous productions concerning scratching on film and the technique used to make Pas de deux, we will see how the choreographic act was perceived differently by the dancer himself at the time of the shooting.
Norman McLaren began experimenting with cinematographic forms in the 1930s. From his first film Love on the Wing in 1937, he played on the metamorphic and abstract dimension of the drawn line, drawing directly on the film. Quickly, his work will question the musicality of forms, the rhythmic logic of images. His work is based on a form of improvisation very close to jazz. The interest is not the drawing but the movement it produces, the drawing is a vector to make the movement perceptible.
Pas de Deux is not made with this technique of scratching on film but in real shot. However, we are dealing with an unusual image since the movement of the dancers seems to decompose like the chronophotographs of Etienne-Jules Marey or the phenakistoscope of Joseph Plateau.
McLaren was able to achieve this result not during the shooting, but through numerous manipulations in the laboratory with an optical printer. He altered the exposure of the photograms and the speed at which they were played back, and superimposed the images in order to obtain a fluid and decomposed movement of the dancers' bodies. He seeks to capture the essence of movement, an elusive materiality. Movement is one of the common characteristics of cinema and dance. It is both the moving bodies of the dancers and the succession of photograms recorded by the camera on film and reproduced with a projector.
The film was shot in a studio where the walls were painted black, so no set elements are visible. The floor was made of black felt so as not to reflect the light. The two dancers seem to be in a space out of the world, out of time, in a kind of spatial-temporal void. All that remains is their dance, their movement, the interactions of their bodies.
In this reflection on the relationship between dance and cinema in Pas de Deux, it is interesting to approach the other side of the film, that is to say the technical aspect and the way in which the two dancers lived this experience. The viewer sees poetic images of a ballet in which the dancers' movements seem to be fluid, without interruption. However, in an article for the magazine 24 images, the dancer Vincent Warren presents his point of view. He explains how difficult it was for him and Margaret Mercier to perform their dance steps on the slippery felt floor and how the spotlights blinded them completely. In spite of the lighting, the two dancers were in a dark room which made them lose their bearings. Finally, they had to dance without music because it was not composed for the film and was found by Norman McLaren once the film was edited.
Finally, Warren makes a very interesting comparison between a passage of the choreography and the sculptures of faces on the temples of Angkor in Cambodia. Indeed, the dancer makes Margaret Mercier turn on one leg but it is lowered, only remains the body of the young woman who turns on a vertical axis and whose face is multiplied in a circular way as we can see in the image below.
Other passages of the choreography could also remind us of the work entitled The Dance by Henri Matisse painted in 1910 where we see several dancers in a circle. We find here the importance of the movement of the line.
To conclude, Norman McLaren proposes in his film a reflection on the evocative force of movement and dance, both vectors of emotions and abstract ideas. The decomposition of movement leaves a trace of the dancers' bodies in time and space.

Task 001.
BUT RED WAS WHAT YOU WRAPPED AROUND YOU. BLOOD RED.
—Ted Hughes
BASIC INFORMATION.
Full Name: Vincent James Ouellet Nickname(s): Vin, Vinny, Strychnine, Striker; Strike Age: 28 Date of Birth: 13 February 1990 Hometown: Québec, Québec, Canada Current Location: Dertosa, California Ethnicity: white Nationality: Vincent is Canadian, but his mother was American, so he’s got dual citizenship Gender: cis male Pronouns: he/him Orientation: Vincent is bisexual — but also fun fact he’s never had sex Religion: agnostic — he doesn’t think too hard about it, but I could see him going for something like Roman Reconstructionalist if he actually put thought into it. Political Affiliation: (I don’t know stateside politics and neither does Vincent) Occupation: full-time Poison babey — see also: hitman Living Arrangements: he’s got a small apartment with sparse decorations — really what he was looking for when he got it was somewhere that he’d be able to relax and cook.
The kitchen is the most put-together part of the one-bedroom place, with well-loved pots, pans, and bakeware. A couple nice dishtowels in a white with navy stripes pattern hang from the handle of the oven, and a much more ragged bleach-worn dishtowel is usually seen on the counter (used for wiping up messes as they happen). Little (fake bullet) shell casing salt and pepper shakers sit on the back of the stove, along with a little porcelain rooster — “You have to have a rooster in the kitchen.” Vincent would say, “It’s good luck.” — which its paint is chipping from how old it is.
The living/eating area has a navy and grey rug that looks like he’s had it since he was in his early twenties (and, honestly, he has) and a dark-stained wooden table with four chairs — the insert to make it into a six person table for if he ever had the Poisons over sitting against the far wall, in plain sight — and just a single placemat, that is pastel and multi-coloured and looks like he stole it from a sixty year old’s kitchen décor, sitting on the table at all times.
He’s got a small, grey, apartment-sized couch that he likes to curl up an nap on, so there’s a throw blanket and a single pillow always on it.
Language(s) Spoken: English; French Accent: Light buzzing on ‘TH’, ‘Z’, and ’S’ sounds — a holdover from his Québécois upbringing; for the most part has a fairly neutral “Seattle accent” that he’s taught himself as a consequence of being around Americans and wanting to sound less ‘different’. Still has a light Québécois accent tinging his words.
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE.
Face Claim: Zane Holtz Hair Colour: dark brown Eye Colour: blue Height: 6’1” Weight: 220ish lbs Build: lorge Tattoos: n/a Piercings: n/a Clothing Style: Simple, dark sweaters (navy, forest green, maroon, black), white dress shirts (buttoned to the top), dark sports coats, charcoal or black slacks are the standard, but he’ll wear dark wash jeans occasionally. Usually the jeans are paired with a crisp dress shirt (in any of the sweater colours) that may be rolled to to the elbows. If he’s doing the sweater + dress shirt + jeans outfit, his favourite combination is his maroon sweater with a navy dress shirt. He thinks he looks fancy in it. He’s not opposed to wearing light, airy colours (like powder blue, or dusty pink) but he gets a bit self-conscious when he wears them — thinking that they don’t suit him well enough for him to pull it off. So he sticks to dark colours and neutrals. They’re easier to hide bloodstains anyway, and the white shirts can be bleached.
Fan of French cuffs but never wears them because cufflinks are easy to lose at a scene. When he’s not on the job he’s totally breaking out the French cuffs and his silver cufflinks. There’s the occasional t-shirt + sweatpants combo but usually reserved for when he isn’t going out anywhere/not seeing anyone but the other poisons or the flower he’s booked.
For accessories, he’s got a dark grey tungsten carbide band that he wears on his left ring finger.
Usual Expression: neutral, vaguely aggressive leaning. His eyebrows make him look mad when he’s not holding them up in some form of expression. Distinguishing Characteristics: I’d say his biggest distinguishing characteristic is that he is tall and wide — like not only is this kid over six feet tall, he’s jacked as shit too.
HEALTH.
Physical Ailments: needs glasses, and he’s nearsighted — it’s partly why he prefers knives to guns. Neurological Conditions: nothing I can peg but I’m sure there’s Something. Allergies: n/a Sleeping Habits: king of the cat nap, and honestly whenever he can knock out he’s gonna. He snores too. Eating Habits: he eats a Lot and he’s decently healthy… please see his favourite food section for a more detailed food thing. Exercise Habits: Boy loves to workout — gotta keep fit for murder, y’know? He’s fond of free weights, and bars… boy loves a heavy deadlift, and he’s gotta bench press his friends at least once. He’s also one to do sprints for his cardio, especially resistance sprints. Gotta go fast.
He works until it burns and he’s comfortably sore. Totally one to have a protein shake with oats added after a hard workout.
Emotional Stability: Vincent isn’t necessarily the most emotionally competent but he’s also not especially volatile. He’s got his moments — blind fury or just enjoyment of a kill can cause him to go a lil overboard. When he laughs it’s a whole body laughs — boy’s gonna feel things all at once if he’s going to feel them at all. Sociability: He likes to be with other people but he is just so painfully awkward. He doesn’t quite realize sometimes that he’s making jokes that aren’t funny and that he should stop making poisoning jokes to the flower that is eating the meal he prepped himself but, hey, we can’t be perfect and Vinny certainly isn’t. Body Temperature: I’d say he’s a slight onto the warm side — summer is hell for him. Addictions: can I say the high of a kill? But nah he ain’t a straight up murder-obsessed guy, he just really loves that feeling. In all honesty, he loves sweet things. Drug Use: Never Alcohol Use: Rarely drinks — he doesn’t like the feeling of being drunk/tipsy, but he will go for a lite beer or two, or a mixed drink that is “light on the alcohol, heavy on the mix, please.”
PERSONALITY.
Label: the aggressor; the cold-blooded; the loyalist Positive Traits: Fearless, determined, willing Negative Traits: Ruthless, detached Goals/Desires: his biggest thing is having a balance to things, it’s a driving force behind his actions. Fears: spiders — too many legs they creep him out. Hobbies: cooking, reading, watching movies Habits: absently rotates his wrists/cracks his fingers when he’s focused on something. Mutters in French under his breath if he’s trying to figure something out.
FAVOURITES.
Weather: cold, crisp winter day with large snowflakes floating down lazily — not a flurry, just pleasant and relaxing. Probably around -15C / 5f. Colour: navy and light blue Music: top 40 hits — 22 year old Vincent was the type to sing along to ‘Call Me Maybe’ in his car by himself. Movies: comedies, supernatural themes, French and Québécois cinema. Sport: Lacrosse; hockey (fan of the Canadiens and the Maple Leafs) Beverage: Hot chocolate!
He’s one to pick the drink up from a coffee shop on the way to an appointment, or to make himself a fresh one after he’s back home. He has several different kinds of it — from those hot chocolate wands, to tins of powdered mix, to single-serve portions of it for a on-demand coffee machine — and he’s not picky. He likes the sweetness of it, and, if he’s getting one from a coffee shop, makes sure to ask for extra chocolate sauce. At home it depends how tired he is. It’ll either be basic, with just hot milk and melted chocolate or fancier on his days off with tiny marshmallows or peppermint syrup. He especially likes to make hot chocolate for those he considers friends.
Food: He’ll give most things a try, honestly.
He’s definitely fallen back on the ‘pan seared broccoli with wild rice and baked chicken breast (with smoked paprika, thyme, and black pepper)’ as a basic dinner meal for when he’s feeling lazy. If he’s not feeling lazy the sky is the fucking limit. He’ll make everything from a whole chicken or a roast with accompanying veggies, to stir-frying tofu and veggies. For lunch he’s usually eating something he’s packed — quinoa, lemon-dill salmon, asparagus; rare steak, sweet potatoes, broccolini; Cobb salad with an extra hardboiled egg or two; homemade “instant” ramen in a jar — and for breakfast he’ll either just straight up have a protein shake with oats and fruit, or some of the egg muffins he makes every few days (mushroom, cheese, ham,, quinoa) or he’ll really go all out and have French Toast or waffles.
Homemade stovetop mac n cheese is a comfort food he likes if he wants something quick (25 minutes, start to finish), but if he’s gonna make a comforting meal to distract himself he’s totally the type to go with a braised lamb sort of deal.
Animal: dogs
FAMILY.
Father: Étienne Jean Ouellet (53); president of an insurance brokerage Mother: Lillian Grace Ouellet née Richardson (51); homemaker Sibling(s): none Children: n/a Pet(s): n/a Family’s Financial Status: solidly upper-middle class. Don’t you know the insurance business is practically a license to print money?
EXTRA.
Zodiac Sign: Aquarius; 13 February 1990 MBTI: ISTJ Enneagram: type 8 — the challenger Temperament: melancholic Moral Alignment: totally pegged him as a Lawful Evil — uses murder to get his ends tidy, but has a strong sense of needing balance for things. Not one to just willy-nilly McMurder. Primary Vice: Wrath Primary Virtue: Charity Element: Earth

Robert Lepage and Guillaume Côté’s new dance work Frame by Frame opens tonight, 1 June, at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto.
Karen Kain, Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada, announced that Sadler’s Wells in London will co-produce Frame by Frame, a collaboration between theatre artist Lepage and Choreographic Associate and Principal Dancer Côté, and will tour to Sadler’s Wells in an upcoming season. The company last appeared at Sadler’s Wells in 2013 with Alexei Ratmansky’s Romeo and Juliet.
Frame by Frame is Lepage’s debut with the National Ballet and Côté’s second full-length ballet for the company, the first being Le Petit Prince created in 2016. Côté has been a Principal Dancer with the National Ballet since 2004 and a Choreographic Associate since 2013.

The work is a homage to pioneer Canadian filmmaker and animator Norman McLaren. It is a multidisciplinary work that follows the arc of his life and work, incorporating dance, film and theatre. Best-known for his Academy Award-winning film Neighbours (1952) and his groundbreaking dance film Pas de deux, McLaren’s experiments in animation, innovative use of sound, music and drawn-on-film techniques transformed cinema and animation.
The production incorporates and interweaves several different media, aiming to be both an evocation of and inquiry into the world and imagination of one of Canada’s most uncategorizable and accomplished, yet elusive, artists.

Four ways to watch women's soccer in Toronto
Whether you're looking to catch women's soccer related content in-person or online, it's nice to know we're not limited to only shoddy streams during obscure hours of the day.
1. The Canadian Women's National Team is hosting Germany at Tim Hortons Field on Sunday, June 10. Less than a month away and the match is 95% sold out, so don't miss your chance to see the 3rd (Germany) and 4th (Canada) ranked teams in the world. [Yes, Tim Hortons Field is in Hamilton, which isn't quite Toronto, but it's one of our fellow Greater Golden Horseshoe cities and a 50 minute drive away.]
This friendly marks the first home match for Canada with Kenneth Heiner-Møller as head coach, who replaced John Herdman after he was named to lead the Canadian Men's National Team earlier this year.
For Germany, interim head coach Horst Hrubesch will manage the team through the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup Qualifiers until Martina Voss-Tecklenburg takes reign in September. Hrubesch stepped in after poor performances at the UEFA Women's Euro 2017 and SheBelieves Cup 2018 under Steffi Jones.
Both teams last met in an April 2017 friendly in Erfurt, Germany with the hosts winning 2-1. Then 18-year-old Deanne Rose scored the lone goal for Canada.
Visit CanadaSoccer.com for more information on tickets and special offers.
2. InsideOut - Toronto's LGBT film festival - is taking place May 24-June 3. This year's programming includes the heart-warming Argentina/Paraguay co-production Today Match at 3 (Hoy partido a las 3) about a women's soccer team in small-town Argentina playing in a terribly disorganized tournament.
The film won Best Cast at the 2017 Buenos Aires Festival of Independent Cinema and will be screen on May 27.
3. On stage at Crow's Theatre October 9-27 is the 2017 Pulitzer Prize nominated The Wolves. The play, chronicling the teenage lives of a girls' indoor soccer team, was sold out during its Off-Broadway debut in New York and praised by The New York Times for its portrayal of "the scary, exhilarating brightness of raw adolescence".
The Seattle cast of The Wolves recently spent time training with the Seattle Reign of the National Women's Soccer League.
4. The Toronto Public Library has been expanding its digital media offerings with free online streaming through services like Hoopla, Criterion Collection, Kanopy and OverDrive. All you need is your library card!
On Kanopy, you can stream content like Streetkids United II: The Girls from Rio, a documentary about a Brazilian girls' football team preparing for the Street Child World Cup tournament.
These various platforms also offer access to more mainstream content, for instance, Call Me By Your Name, Forward by Abby Wambach, and a Canadian classic The Sweater (it's hard to wear a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey when you're a Montreal Canadiens fan... or so I've heard).

11 Family Things to Do in Toronto
Toronto is not specifically a large playground, yet it's absolutely among the extra family-friendly cities around. There are lots of excellent attractions as well as activities around the city for those travelling with children, with lots of variety the pick from.
