if you're upset at Emilia Pérez and want to see a real mexican movie that treats the epidemic of missing and murdered people in México with actual empathy and touch, please watch Ruido (2022).

It's based on many stories of missing women and of femicide. It features a woman searching for her missing daughter and becoming an activist for the thousands of missing people countrywide.

As it's based on real things happening in the country, the production included help from real mothers of missing people, called madres buscadoras. They're activists that search all over the country for their loved ones, either dead or alive. The madres buscadoras of the state of San Luis Potosí acted and advised in this movie.

It's an amazing film that deals with some of the most delicate subjects in mexican society and has an amazing story.

Quien diría que este sujeto ↓
(Toshiro Mifune)

Watch More Movies Notebook: November ‘24

Collage of stills from my eleven favorite new-to-me films of November ’24
As you may have surmised from me posting this at the end of December, I didn’t have the time to do a full write-up for November. Real world/holiday responsibilities took some precedence, but also, I’m gearing up for some new and different stuff for 2025!
For now, find some shout outs to my noirvember-heavy, favorite first-time watches and a rundown of what I posted in November ‘24.
Favorite New-to-me Films of the Month
(listed in order pictured above, L to R)
As always, if any other films catch your eye, but you need specific content/trigger warnings, feel free to ask and I’ll try to oblige!
I only managed 15 of the 18 films that I had hoped to watch for Noirvember this year, but had great luck since 9 of those 15 made my favorites list.

Thank you all for supporting the blog this year, whether just by reading, or by sharing, or by sending me tips/coffees on ko-fi, or by buying items off of my wishlist! I’m looking forward to reworking some things for the coming year that I hope you’ll all enjoy. So, stay tuned for that!
For now though, best wishes to all of you for the coming New Year! And, as always, happy viewing.
