Cleveland Way & Cinder Track Hike - Whitby & Robin Hood's Bay, England

We started today off with a climb up the 199 Steps (pictured below) to Whitby Abbey and the trailhead for Cleveland Way to Robin Hood's Bay.

The weather was perfect for the hike along the coast, fantastic views of the countryside and the North Sea:

After 6.5 glorious miles, we arrived at Robin Hood's Bay. We walked into town and had brunch at the Victoria Hotel - lovely views and lovely staff!

On our way into town, we had discovered that the Cinder Track path also goes through Robin Hood's Bay. We decided to walk back to Whitby along this pathway - it was a beautiful walk through the English countryside:

We made it back to Whitby - a wonderful 14 mile walk! We earned a cold one at a local pub - cheers!

I'm pretty sure two players are needed to 1:1 reproduce the original(?), but for convenience I wrote all the parts on one score. (In fact I don't really have a keyboard around to test out the playability/fingering/etc., so this is more like just me trying to write down all the notes lol.)

I'm still working on the recap for "Rude, Red, and Royal" so I obviously won't be writing up today's episode yet (which oddly doesn't have a title on Crunchyroll), but uh... it sure was a thing!

I've got a lot to say about the lampshading of major writing issues, straight up ignoring the Salem question for the fourth Volume in a row, the girls' messy visions, and the cat interrupting Ruby's internal conflict right as we were getting somewhere. However, what really stood out to me was the framing of Ruby's hardships like some inevitability, as if she's a Chosen One forced by fate to suffer through the Salem crisis, and not a teenager who literally wrested that responsibility from others.

Hey, vision!Ruby? You're thinking of Ozpin. Like, for real. The character whose unwanted responsibility it is to make things better, the one who the whole world depends on, forced into an unambiguously unfair fight against an immortal monster forever and ever and ever? That's Ozpin. The story gave that role to Ozpin, not our protagonist, which remains a BIG problem for the heart of the story. Ruby is not the one cursed by the Gods and trapped in an endless cycle of pain, suffering an obvious personal loss due to the Big Bad (because lbr we only found out last season that Salem even knew who Summer was and we still don't know whether she actually killed her). Ruby chose this, she demanded it, and she's been at it for... a couple of months? At most? Yeah, can we give this vision to the guy who's been at it for literal lifetimes after watching all four of his daughters burn to death instead? Give Ruby something that actually reflects her struggles and mistakes.

I really need to get all my notes more coherently written for my Miquella and the Ancestral Followers/Spirits lore that I'm fairly certain was what they were setting up for the Age of Abundance ending that they scrapped. There's just enough for it to not be a coincidence and ties in so nicely with the contrast of Malenia's rot. Plus it explains Torrent, the spririt/dream connections, etc.

okay so my favourite mechanism is by FAR raphaella, her derth of backstory and absolutely nuts vocal range has utterly bewitched me. im also SO in love with her aesthetic, and any + all portrayals of her wings kick ASS

FAVOURITE SONG IS HARD... rn it is a very close tie between pieces and hellfire -- but atm hellfire wins out! i fucking LOVE the ominous sermon vibes it has; the organ in the beginning? the way the humming progresses into wailing in the harmonies? the fucking TRUMPET in the chorus*???????? the hair-raising whispered poem ABT arthurian legend in the second spoken section? jonny's Deranged Preacher Cackle??????? THE DTTM RECORDING WHERE YOU CAN HEAR THE WHOLE CROWD SCREAM 'BUT YOU'RE A LIAR'????????????? showstopping. breathtaking. absolutely no notes.

anyway if you couldn't tell my favourite album atm is high noon over camelot LMAO. i think the soundscape it creates is like. the most impressive + immersive out of all of mechs recordings -- the way they use the synth throughout is fucking MASTERFUL, and its such a PERFECT way to blend the genres of scifi + western, considering the mechs usual timbre lends itself extremely well to folky and old-fashioned. like, the absolutely BONE chilling reprise of hellfire during the heirophant goes CRAZY hard and ive never seen ANYONE mention it! and the whole album is full of moments like that! like each song transitions perfectly into a background hum for the narration and then back again, and its always so well balanced and !!!!!!!

i have regrettably never been to a liveshow </3 i don't actually have a lot of knowledge of all the different recordings - i have a bunch of masterposts saved, but im super slow to work through them.

so i think ive gotta go with death to the mechanisms! while i do sometimes wish it captured the details a little better, its so awesome being able to see the majority of the band during each song :) in paticular, i LOVE getting to see kofi's acting, they're SO fucking expressive and they get so excited in the leadup to both thor and expert testimony and i just :D

More Sugar Rush?

Nora slammed her hammer into another grimm and sighed when she watched the charm at the end of her hammer dangle. She let out a sigh and slowly folded her hammer back up as she looked around her. It had been weeks since Ruby had been taken from her, weeks of searching for Salem and helping Ozpin with his missions that seemed to lead to nowhere. Fighting grimm, defending villages, searching for anyone who could lead them to Salem… all of it felt pointless the longer they went on. No leads, no trail to follow, and no hope to find what she was looking for.

���Nora?” Pyrrha asked. “Is everything okay?” 

“Are we sure this is the best way to find her? We’ve been doing this for months with nothing to show for it and Ozpin hasnt helped us get any closer.” 

“What other choice do we have?” 

“There has to be something beyond this!” Nora yelled out. “We have to find her! The trail has been cold for months and no one has seen any sign of that faunus that took her or of her! We had to have missed something when we searched-” 

“We both know that we searched everywhere we could with no sign of who took her or even to where.” Pyrrha put a hand on Nora’s shoulder and gently squeezed it. “Maybe we should get back to camp and see if Ren and Blake found anything.” 

“And if they havent?” 

“Then we keep-” 

Nora watched as a bullet passed through Pyrrha’s shoulder and quickly pulled her down as another shot rang through the air. She looked around the clearing outside the village to see if she could spot anyone, frowning when she couldnt. Her attention went back to Pyrrha as she watched her teammate’s aura start to flicker and blood seeped through her clothes. “I’ll get you to the village healer and get you patched up, alright?” 

Pyrrha nodded and winced as she used her semblance to pull the remaining pieces of bullet out of her wound. “I’ll be fine. You should see if you can find who’s out there.” 

“Are you sure? I can help support you-” 

“I’ll let the others know so they can back you up, alright?” 

Nora nodded and helped Pyrrha up. “As long as you promise to be fine.”

Ruby slammed her prosthetic fist into a beowolf and rushed out of the way of a fireball from Cinder as she tried to reach for her cloak in the middle of the arena. She pulled a small dagger from her hip and slammed it into another grimm’s neck as she tried to vault herself over, feeling the heat of a fireball slam into her side and knock her to the ground as her aura flickered. 

“You’re still not ready,” Cinder said as she walked over to Ruby. “Why Salem doesnt just kill you now is still beyond me. You’ve been nothing but a thorn in our side for years and the idea that she still wants you alive and trained is insulting!” 

Ruby picked herself up and groaned as her aura started to stabilize. “Is that why you wont let me succeed in this? This would be easier if I had Crescent Rose-” her sentence cut off as she felt the tip of Cinder’s blade pressed against her throat. 

“One more word and I will kill you.” 

Ruby nodded and slowly pulled herself away from Cinder’s sword. “Yes ma’am.” 

“Good.” Cinder pulled her sword back and started to make her way to the other side of the arena once more. “Again.” 

Ruby sighed and picked herself up, watching as the grimm started to file back into the arena. She rolled her tattered sleeves up and eyed the grimm and Cinder as she took a few steps back before launching herself forward with her semblance. In a flurry of rose petals, she weaved through the grimm and around Cinder until she reached her cloak and grabbed it just as she felt another fireball slam into her back, the flames scorching the back of her shirt. 

“That’s another failure.” 

“You cheated!” Ruby put her cloak around her shoulders and fastened it with a knot to keep it in place. “I grabbed the cloak just like you asked me to!” 

“The task was to get rid of the grimm and get past me without getting hit.” Cinder’s eyes started to flare up in flame as she readied her bow with a flamed arrow. “Besides, no one is going to try to fight you fairly. Not after they find out who you’re working for now.” 

“So all I have to do is beat you and then I can get Crescent Rose back?” 

“If you can beat me, you can get your precious weapon back and speak to Salem. Assuming its still in one piece once Mercury and Emerald are finished with it.” 

Ruby took a deep breath and readied herself with the daggers she was given as she eyed Cinder. “Then dont hold back.” 

Cinder smirked and let her arrow fly. “I dont plan to.”
