Egotober - Day 3
Prompts by @tracobuttons
Prompt: Jewel
---
Celine woke before William, as she often did, and quietly got out of bed, plucking her clothing from the floor like feathers from a chicken; carelessly, tediously, a task waiting to end. She did not need the light to accomplish this, having done it many times in the last year.
When she was done she reached for her wedding ring, abandoned on the nightstand. She turned it over, examined its diamond, glittering even in the dim.
She remembered when Mark proposed to her; it seemed so long ago now. He did so in public, of course, in front of a crowd of adoring fans and cameras. She had no choice but to say yes, in hindsight, but she was so blinded by the light that was loving him that she didn’t care.
It wasn’t even a big diamond. It was a tiny thing, hardly able to call itself a jewel.
She slipped it on with something resembling a grimace, but as her gaze went to William her expression became something like love. Soon they would leave this half-life, and she would be free.
Like a ghost, Celine drifted to William’s bedside, where she leaned to press a light kiss to his forehead. He did not stir.
It was for the best, she thought, as she left to return to her husband’s home.

When Alfie learnt that Tommy had a tortoise named Roy as pet, the torture began, testing his partner's patience.
From "there's a burger walking in the living room" to "that rock is moving."
And nothing is going to stop him. Only, maybe, the friendship between his dog and Roy.

#at this point I don't even think cilliam murphy is fun looking anymore. he's just a guy#and his character truly is so unimpressive idk why these women are fighting over him#cor.txt

I saw a tiktok with two scenes. A relaxed Tommy hugging Grace and smoking and another Lizzie hugging him from behind and he completely 🧍🏻♂️ looking at himself in the mirror.
The comments were like "awnn tommy loved grace but he also loved lizzie look how relaxed he is with her"
cut to the man standing there as stoic as a stone ahuahauah barely moving or blinking. And with grace he is there hugged and swaying watching the window smoking 💖 people really are blind 😂 Cilliam's posture in the two scenes are completely different and he was not at all relaxed with Lizzie. He was like 🧍🏻♂️🔵👄🔵
Hahahaha yes, I know which ones you are talking about and it is as you say.
In the scene with Grace, he tells Grace to come with him so he can hug her, he kisses her neck, and he is at peace with her. Tommy adored her.
On the other hand, the scene with Lizzie, is she the one who goes to him and hugs him, and he stays still, and looks like he's saying what she's doing? If I stay still maybe she'll go away hahaha. And she is very creepy in that scene, she smells him like she was a dog.
He is never the affectionate one with Lizzie, she is always the one who tries to get closer to him, but he always rejects her, on the other hand with Grace, he hugs her and kissed her all the time, just like she did with him, and he was happy to receive her kisses and caresses.

I saw Oppenheimer (here after Oppy Heim)
It is a magnificent movie. It's exciting and very interesting and thoughtfully made, and with care. I'm glad the doofus who directed the batman movies and Directing: It's Heroic (aka Inception) gets to make these very unique, fascinating, huge projects. No one else gets to these days, it feels like.
That said, I can understand some meaningful critique of the film. No, it's not at ALL condoning the actions of building nuclear weapons, but as the film states from its protagonist in a scene where he is later under close scrutiny (and to some extent bad faith interrogation) he explains that context is important. I think that is brutally true in a story about the creation and utilization of mass weapons. So what context is this film presenting?
The film is large in scope, and knows it. Characters say as much multiple times. Creating the power to unleash literal hell on earth with one "gadget" or "device" is literally world changing. It doesn't hinge entirely on the efforts of one man, J. Robert Oppenheimer, but the film takes pains to indicate that the US wouldn't have accomplished the building of the bomb on the timeline it did without Oppy's charisma, his intellect, and his ability to coordinate and collaborate with other geniuses. Oppy Heim tells a huge story, but it does brilliantly narrow the scope of the story, long ass running time aside, because it's not The Story of the Atomic Bomb it's the story of J. Robert Oppy Heim, Father of the Atomic Bomb. These are overlapping but disparate things.
I would be a hypocrite if I tossed this film aside, by the way, after I have declared more than once that The Wind Rises is Miyazaki's finest film. They are essentially parallel works, exploring very, very similar themes. That said, isn't that the crucial distinction? Miyazaki was fire bombed by the US in his own living memory. He and his family had to run away from war and violence. Now, of course, Nolan is not a man without a dark and complicated history. (Spoiler alert, we all come from pain) However, context is important, is it not? When grappling with the pain Oppy Heim inflicted, it's clear that he is at once self-flagellating, and truly guilty, filled with shame, and also unable to accept ownership of the real harm he's done at times to real people. So, when the only direct reference to real Japanese human being being charred to death, and those who survived the initial blast eventually doomed to feel their organs liquify inside their own bodies, we only see it reflected in Oppy Heim's pained face.
Which, Cilliam Murphy Deserves the Oscar, it's not even a question. That's part of what elevates the film. Really superb acting, and Cillian still the stand out.
I am not sure what to do with a film that wants to build and explore sympathizing with an accomplice to mass murder. Am I meant to see himself in him? Does Nolan, absurdly, see himself in this man? Is it just sick fascination? Is it suggesting that any of us could do this? That genius forces us to do this?
That's sort of what The Wind Rises suggests, and again, it deeply informs my reading.
So, I mean, if the film wants me to think "wow we strongly over rate Big Important Men of Genius" then sure, yes, lol.
That said, this is a film that makes a staggering case for Seeing Films In Theaters. I can't imagine seeing and enjoying this film even half as much at home on my couch with distractions abound and my wimpy sound system.

Any opinions on the reoccurring Jimmy?
Naturally Jimmy from the first film
The mother before shutting the door on the kids tells a kid called Jimmy to be quiet (could be Timmy)
The church has written "Behold he is coming in the clouds" and "Jimmy" written on the side of it. They could be a message together but they seem to be written in different fonts and Jimmy is on a different angle
The infected hanging upside down with the bag on it's head looks like it has Jimmy carved into it's back
Which leaves the question is the Jimmy they're talking about Original Cilliam Murphy Jim, or the Jimmy in the tv room grown up? Any why are people leaving his name around? Is Jimmy the one coming in the clouds? Why is Jimmy important?
I have no idea. I've not seen the other two movies. But I've seen comments and articles thinking that Jim is seen in the trailer as an infected person and we are just gonna see him briefly.
