enough sad soukoku angst. give me SILLY soukoku angst. give me 16 year old dazai dragging tired older brother odasaku on a "very important mission given to him by the boss" and it's just dazai watching chuuya on a date (oooooh) with comically oversized binoculars. the date goes horribly wrong, no dazai meddling required, and dazai feels nothing but successful. odasaku leaves halfway through, knowing he cannot stop this but not wanting to enable dazai.

OKAY BUT LISTEN. LISTEN. I WANNA BREAK DOWN SOME OF THE PANELS FROM THIS SCENE CAUSE UH. This is like a powerpoint of the audience realizing the Sheep are not Chuuya's friends.

First off, baby? Baby. Also Chuuya's body language in the art is so, like, embarassed/self-conscious teen, except instead of the problem being hanging out with the wrong people in high school its...Mafia-level stakes. Anyway, Chuuya curling up while hiding from his "friends" immediately gives you a sense he is not the one in control.

Dazai-like expression who? Chuuya is putting on a mask so eerily similar...it gives us some great parallels.

Chuuya unnecessarily apologizing to Shirase? Yeah. Straight from the book.

Insane over Shirase's solid B+ gaslighting. I don't remember if these lines are from the book, but Shirase implying Chuuya's the one "acting like a tyrant" when he literally didn't do anything?? Except ask politely for favors? Throughout the whole conversation he's been the polar opposite. But hey, maybe Shirase's just projecting.

Nothing to add here except Shirase's body language in this is SO much better than the anime. In the anime he just acted mad and kinda hot-headed. Here he's smiling, acting friendly, giving off those "ofc I'm on your side Chuuya but you make it so hard for these made-up reasons" vibes. Shirase is opportunistic, manipulative, he believes he has control over Chuuya, and therefore his ability.

Of course, Dazai can tell immediately what Shirase is doing. That Shirase has more power over Chuuya than Chuuya does over any of the Sheep (which is once again reinforced by the body language. Shirase's arm over Chuuya's shoulders, swamping him. Being physically taller than Chuuya. Chuuya just kind of standing there, passively.

Also despite what Shirase seems to believe, he and the other Sheep are not one bit smarter than Chuuya. They're eagerly celebrating their victory when Chuuya can clearly tell this is some sort of plan on Dazai's part.

Dazai destroying any leverage they had over Chuuya and yet knowing there's some reason Chuuya is doing this anyway. Offering him a choice.

As I've said before (and it's more obvious than ever in the manga) Shirase's using it to gain Mafia territory by getting some of their members captured. I've stated this before, and we do get a confirmation:

The "self defense rule" is something Chuuya explicitly created. To not strike unless provoked. I have a lot of thoughts on this and why but that's not for this post.

And we have!! Dazai getting pissed off on Chuuya's behalf!! He's scary.

Guys I love this chapter. Because on one hand, Shirase, like the rest of the Sheep, have very legitimate fears. They're literally a bunch of kids that used to be preyed on by other organizations, and if Chuuya is not guaranteed to protect them, then...well...they're in horrible danger, really.

The problem is that Chuuya is ready to protect them. But they don't trust him, and it seems they never have. The whole thing is built on Shirase (and probably the others) holding some kind of emotional and social power over Chuuya, therefore guaranteeing their safety. But when that's not longer the case, well, they don't trust Chuuya to protect them. I'm curious how the manga is going to adapt Dazai's whole "meat" story later on because the issue isn't a selfish conflict of interest. The issue is trust, and the lack of it between Chuuya and the rest of the Sheep.

It's like the Sheep built their gang on high school clique rules, and didn't realize Chuuya's not just operating out of a sense of obligation and need to belong, but genuine care. Anyway, that's all I have to say. The art is beautiful.

im on my abuse cycle agenda again, so let me remind you that most of the abusers in it care about the recipients of that abuse.

mori has said in beast that he cares about dazai, but in the 15 light novel he says that a problem like dazai can be useful. he wants dazai to succeed but success to mori is very limited, meaning that the only way mori saw fit to raise dazai is to prepare him to be the mafia boss. he assumed they wanted the same things when all dazai wanted was to be happy and that the way to be happy was to survive the darkness long enough.

dazai has said that he believes that akutagawa could become one of the strongest members of the port mafia, that's including others like chuuya and kouyo by the way, if he could just play it smart. he chastises and belittles akutagawa to try to force him to use his head in the same way that he does, the same way that he had been ultimately forced to do. he pushes and pushes for akutagawa to get through the darkness when all akutgawa wants is to be useful to somebody.

akutagawa pushes kyouka to be useful. he wants her to work through the pain because he believed that eventually being useful would make her happy. and as we saw, akutagwa eventually realises that all kyouka wants to to be surrounded by people who love her, not to be a tool.

the headmaster wanted atsushi to be able to survive, koyo wanted kyouka to be able to thrive with her, most of them care about the people they abused. the only exceptions to the rule are abusers who see a goal greater than their victim or who are afraid of them.

acts of service is his #1 love language. There’s no convincing me otherwise. When I say ‘he will do anything for you’ besides killing this is what I mean. You really don’t have to ask either. I talk about this some more later but, examples: done with your plate? He’ll take it. He remembers you said you needed xyz, he got it for you. You said you wanted to ____ but you fell asleep, so he did it.

hope you get along with Gin because to continue a relationship with him past 2 minutes, you need to. He will never choose friends over family. I stand on that.

The Sheep King and his Demon AU

Aka Bsd except Chuuya doesn't join the Port Mafia.

Not technically canon to this... Butt what if Dazai joined the Sheep.

Basically the whole operation of setting members of the Sheep free, takes a lot longer than anticipated.

And so Dazai is sort of taken hostage by the Sheep until their hostages are released.

I say sort of because Dazai offered himself up as a hostage.

He's curious, he wants to know about this gang of teenagers that causes such havoc for the Port Mafia.

Especially their king.

The Sheep hold a meeting and they agree.

Dazai is suprised by his treatment, sure he and Chuuya argue constantly and he can piss off anyone without even trying.

But they treat him like they treat each other.

At first Dazai assumed they were lax about security because he came willingly. Or they were just that overconfident.

But he realises that's not the case at all.

Sure they keep an eye on him, mostly Chuuya. But he's not restricted to their base, just warned against going further into Suribachi city.

Obviously, Dazai doesn't because that sounds like more trouble than its worth.

But he's not handcuffed or kept in a makeshift cell. He's allowed to roam around the base and the surrounding area with a Sheep member keeping an eye on him.

Their all well aware of who he is, and have procedures and an agreed upon plan if things go south.

But for the most part, Dazai is treated like one of them.

Like, Yuan takes food inventory. She calculates how much they've got, rations the food as fair as she can.

So Dazai is suprised when a can of crab is handed to him every so often.

Because no one else eats crab, he's the only one. And Yuan goes out of her way to get him it so he'll have something to eat.

He wonders if it's to keep him on their good side, but it's not the case. Because Yuan tries to grab the others food that they love, it's not always possible but she tries.

None of the others comment about it, some joke about him eating crab of all things but leave it there.

They never force him to eat with them but the door is always open.

"Thanks for the crab."

"Hm? Oh your welcome."

Shirase is a strategiest, which suprised Dazai given their first meeting.

But apparently when he's not blinded by emotions, he's a lot more calculating and smart.

Dazai's offered to help when he's seen Shirase scheming a heist against a shipment heading into Port Mafia terrority.

"You... Want to help us steal from your people?"

"Why not?"

Shirase just stared at him for a moment before snorting, moving to sit beside him.

Showing his notebook and filling Dazai in what was happening.

They spend the next few hours pouring over ideas.

Tossing plans back and fourth. Sometimes they end up walking in circles and Shirase ends up leaving to patrol but thanks him for his input.

Dazai's never had anyone but Mori to steategise with, but this felt different. Quietly he'll admit that it was fun.

For all of Chuuya's grumbling of not being a king, he's an effective leader.

And so different from Mori.

After becoming Boss, Mori is strictly hands off.

He rules through fear and intimadation. He doesn't have to fight because he had tools that would it for him.

Mori's word was law, you didn't challenge it unless you had a coffin picked out.

Than you had Chuuya who constantly throws himself onto the front lines. He's a team player even if he would jump into danger alone to spare the others.

The Sheep follow Chuuya because they trust him. They need each other to survive and care about each other.

Chuuya doesn't give orders, everything feels like an open ended discussion. They debate and scheme and come up with solutions together.

The Sheep have even benched him when he's injured despite Chuuya saying he was fine.

They know each other's limits and don't use that to exploit it each other. Rather how to help and take care off each other.

It's so different to what Dazai's used too.

It's werid.

But it's not a bad werid.

Dazai starts to dread the idea of going back to the Port Mafia. He makes a throw away comment about it at dinner and everyone goes silent.

Chuuya just looks at him like he's said the dumbest thing he's ever heard.

"Idiot, if you don't wanna go back. Don't."

Dazai wants to laugh and say that it's not that easy. You don't just leave the Port Mafia, he'll be killed or worse and that's before Mori finds out and deals with him personally.

Chuuya rolls his eyes, as if reading his mind. He tilts his head to the others, and Dazai looks around.

And notices the looks on everyone's faces.

No one objects, no one looks annoyed or angry... Infact, they seem to all be in an agreement.

If the Port Mafia tried to take Dazai, they would all rally behind him.

And Dazai... He smiles.

Somewhere deep down he knows he's found where he belongs.

Chuuya gifts him his blue wristband, putting it on his wrist.

Dazai: Werid way to propose Slug.

Chuuya: I'm not proposing?! We're not even dating!

Dazai: Do I have to do everything around here?

Chuuya: You never do shit!

Shirase: Not true! Shirase tell him! Tell him how useful I've been!

Shirase: He's not wrong, Chuuya.

Dazai: Awww thank you hedgehog!

Shirase:... Nevermind he's been lazing around all morning.

Dazai: Gasp betrayal!

Yuan:.. Did he just say gasp?

Dazai:, Fine fine, oh great king Chuuya will you go out with the lowly peasant that is me?

Chuuya:... I will pay you to never call me that... And sure fine I'll go out with you.

I was thinking about the jobs of BSD cast in the real world.

Well, I know that the Ada members are detectives and they formed the Private Investigation Bureau.

If I remember correctly, Mori and the other PM members are working to establish Port Mafia in the real world.

Nikolai is a magician ig.

And Lippmann is working to be an actor

I have some questions-

1) Do the Beast!Ada members also join private Investigation bureau with the og!Ada members?Then which Fukuzawa is the president?

2) Similarly, Do the Beast!Pm members join the PM with the OG!Pm members. Who is the boss then? Mori or Dazai? (Tbh, I kinda imagine Beastzai taking Og!zai's vacant executive spot)

3)What does Beast! Mori do?

4)What does both Fyodors do? I don't think they would choose terrorism again since they already live in their desired world.

5)What does the HD do? Does Teruko go to school with the other kids since she's only 12.

6)Does Sigma join the Private Investigation Bureau?

1. At first, it was the plan, that OG!ADA and BEAST! ADA will work together, with both Fukuzawas sharing the title of president.

However, two problems arise.

№1. Half of the time, Ranpos refused to work together. Sometimes, because they were arguing, who solved the case faster. Other days they were fighting because they can't decide, how to share snacks. Then they would fight over your attention.

Both Fukuzawas have to break the quarrels between Ranpos. But they would start again later. You also could act as a mediator, Ranpos did listen to you, but you can't just spend all day in the Bureau's office.

№2. BEAST! Akutagawa, OG! Dazai and BEAST! Oda have troubles working with each other.

BEAST! Akutagawa still doesn't like Dazai (any version), OG! Akutagawa will try to pick up a fight with BEAST! Akutagawa for his disrespect, which doesn't make BEAST! Akutagawa likes Dazai.

BEAST! Oda still can't believe, that another him is friends with OG! Dazai.

OG! Dazai, out of respect of BEAST! Dazai's situation keep his distance from BEAST! Oda.

At the end, BEAST! ADA agreed to establish their own detective agency. And BEAST! Kunikida will be a President of the second agency, at least on paper, so people won't question, why Fukuzawa Yukichi opened two agencies.

BEAST! Armed Detective Agency will be known as Insight Investigation Agency.

2. It took a lot of discussion, but Port Mafia and BEAST! Mafia joined forces. With some rules for BEAST! Port Mafia

Rule №1. BEAST! Dazai can be executive, Black Lizard or took any Mafia's job he likes, even leave the mafia any time he wants, but, in return, he agreed to never took Port Mafia boss position.

Rule №2. BEAST! Chuuya will have to be a sub-executive, together with Rimbaud. He can become proper executive, when OG! Chuuya either become Boss, and gave BEAST! Chuuya executive spot, or if OG! Chuuya leave mafia and agreed to give BEAST! Chuuya executive spot.

Rule №3. BEAST! Chuuya works together with Verlaine and Flags. They try to help BEAST! Chuuya with his temper.

Rule №4. BEAST! Atsushi and BEAST! Kyouka will work under Kouyou. OG! Akutagawa is prohibited from going near BEAST! Atsushi without good reason. Because OG! Akutagawa doesn't trust BEAST! Atsushi in doing good job protecting you. Fun fact, OG! Akutagawa trusts OG! Atsushi, that he will protect you.

BEAST! PM are fine with new jobs. However, BEAST! Dazai does think from tome to time about leaving Port Mafia.

3) BEAST! Mori and BEAST! Elise is working in the orphanage. They are a mix between medics/caretakers.

4. OG! Fyodor and BEAST! Fyodor are working with computers, Internet security and IT. They mostly work from home, helping companies find weak spots in their defense with hacking skills.

And, yes, they aren't terrorizing anyone. Except your hair. Because:

"Myshonok, you looked so sad with unplayed hair, so I decided to help."

"Myshka, let me style your hair and give you scratches."

... If it makes things better, sometimes, Fyodors play with Shibusawas', Bram's or Nikolai's hair. The only difference, that with them Fyodors do it automatically, when they are thinking about something. With you, Fyodors do it on their own violation.

5. Hunting Dogs became bodyguards for hire. Tachihara works both as bodyguard and as mafioso.

As for Teruko... It's slightly complicated.

Teruko will go to school. However, Teruko wasn't to fond of this idea. Her ability makes her mind quite developed. Because of that, Teruko is much smarter, then average twelve-year-old, and also acts very mature. Teruko just thinks, that she can do something else, beside going to school and keeping an eye on kids.

However, she also can't use her ability to age her up to be a bodyguard with the rest of Hunting Dogs.

HEADCANNON ABOUT TERUKO'S ABILITY

Her forms, that makes her older, require great amount of energy. Teruko can maintain them for a few hours, but, after that, she will "reduce" to her normal age and will need time to be able to use her ability again.

You helped to find the compromise.

Teruko helps you with training, and she is a good couch. So, you decided to use Internet.

Teruko will go to school. But, she will also use her ability, make herself older, and film training routine videos. Then videos will be uploaded. This way, Teruko can have a "more or less" fine childhood and not feel like a burden.

6. He is. Sigma is quite happy to be a detective. But, if in Reader's country casinos are legal, Sigma also might open one.

Day 12: Vehicles

Chuuya learned early in their partnership that Dazai is not, and can not, be allowed to drive under any circumstance except one.

And that’s only if Chuuya is legitimately passed out and can’t drive for them.

Chuuya doesn’t know if it’s the ADHD or the Dazai’s eagerness to die or a combination of both that makes the man an abomination to the rules of the road.

Whatever it is, though, he wants nothing to do with it.

The amount of curbs that have jostled Chuuya’s fragile organs after Corruption and the amount of mini heart attacks he’s had from a certain mackerel speeding through red lights has left him scarred.

He wouldn’t be surprised if it genuinely took off years of his life.

Mori had tried to teach him and Dazai how to drive when they were fifteen so they could get fake IDs of their permits, and later, their licenses.

One lesson and an almost-plummet into the harbor was enough to have the man reconsidering.

So then the responsibility went to Chuuya, and who would he be if he didn’t take the opportunity to be better than Dazai at something?

He realized belatedly that Dazai’s just a fucking lazy ass who’d rather play passenger princess like the brat he is.

What’s worse is that he /knows/ Dazai can theoretically drive if he really wants to. One loss at go-karts told him all he needed to know.

And yet Dazai still claims to this day that he hates driving and being on Chuuya’s bike but you know what? At least Chuuya is safe when he drives, both for them and for others.

Chuuya made it a point early on in their partnership that Dazai was not allowed to touch his bike without him being there, and even then that was a hit or miss.

So if it leads to Dazai being his passenger with arms wrapped around his chest and head between Chuuya’s shoulders, then Chuuya isn’t to blame either.

That’s entirely Dazai’s fault.

Chuuya’s favorite thing, though, is hearing the stories of how Dazai’s managed to traumatize his Agency coworkers because, like the dick he is, he didn’t tell them about his “ability” to drive most any motor vehicle.

Chuuya got the rundown of Kunikida’s experience from the man himself when they’d gone out drinking once. A five minute drift in a roundabout was enough for the blond to surrender and take Dazai’s (fake) license from him.

Ranpo was smart and never set foot near a car with Dazai. Yosano took the hint from Ranpo and did the same, though apparently she’s let Dazai drive them back to the dorms after getting sloshed enough that she doesn’t even remember their drinking sessions (Dazai’s words, not hers).

Atsushi, unfortunately, was a victim of the roundabout incident like Kunikida, and luckily the rest of the members haven’t had the chance to experience the ‘thrill’ of Dazai’s driving.

Apparently his ‘license’ is still confiscated to this day in a drawer in Fukuzawa’s desk after Kunikida ratted him out.

Chuuya knows that doesn’t stop Dazai when dire situations call for least-wanted escape methods.

Maybe one day Dazai will actually obey the laws when he drives. And even if he doesn’t, Chuuya doesn’t mind being the chauffeur for them. That just means more back hugs on his motorcycle.

Chuuya was human. So painfully human. So beautifully human. 

After all, there was nothing more human than chaos and discord. The human need to find the most perfect, the most orderly form of chaos. 

Chuuya was chaotic and he was perfect. The perfect form of chaos. 

Human. 

Chuuya was human. 

Human.

For the first time since Dazai witnessed the storm that was Arahabaki, Chuuya, he wasn’t enthralled. 

Chuuya was human. So painfully human. So horrendously human. 

After all, there was nothing more human than life and death. The conclusion to a human life, the inevitable cessation. 

Chuuya was deadly and he was corrupt. 

Human. 

Chuuya was human. 

Blood. 

So much blood. 

There was a burning in his chest from having run here.  

He fell to his knees with no regard for the rubble beneath him. He pulled Chuuya into his arms. 

Red. So much red. 

Yet the body he was clinging to like a child to a stuffed animal was cold. 

He could feel the lingering warmth leaving the body and seeping into his own in a cruel twist of fate. 

He could feel as the warmth entered his own freezing body. 

There was an annoying chattering sound somewhere in the rubble. 

It was cold. It was cold and the body in his arms was becoming freezing to the touch but he couldn’t let go even as he shivered. 

Chuuya was covered in red, further staining his abdomen in sticky red. 

Cold. 

It was so cold. 

He curled himself over Chuuya as if to shield him from the cold, cruel world. 

He was tired and cold. 

He shivered, closing his eyes, pretending Chuuya wasn’t so freezing in his arms. 

… 

So cold…

It had been raining nearly all day. He couldn’t help but think it was painfully fitting. 

The gravestone was large and elegant. It was surrounded by droves of people clad in black. Only those closest were allowed to be up near the grave. 

When he finally made it up to the grave with the others, his melancholy grew. 

In the middle of the gravestone, in large, fancy font was the word Soukoku. Below that on the left was Chuuya Nakahara and on the right was Osamu Dazai. 

Apparently, when they were found together, it first looked as if only Dazai was clinging to Chuuya, but Chuuya had his hand clenched around Dazai’s coat as well. Out of respect, they weren’t separated. 

He was startled out of his thoughts when he felt someone grab his arm. He looked up only to realize most people had left after the rain had gotten worse. He looked to his side before relaxing at the sight of Kyouka. 

“Thank you.”

U: “Unless…” A dangerous glint reflected in Dazai’s eye, and he leaned back against the table. “Unless you’d like to be chained up like a dog in the dungeon. We can even treat you like one if you like—locked up and chained to the wall, feeding from the dirty floor, the last of your dignity leaving you as you realize the cell is both where you eat and use the bathroom.” Dazai put a finger down for each point he listed off, his smile twisting. “But unlike a dog, no one will come for you down there when you start crying to be let out. But here, if you don’t want to talk willingly, maybe I can jog your memory.”

R:  Raised scars that never fully healed because they kept breaking open. Old gunshot wounds. The knife stab at his front from when they were younger. Dazai could not see, but he traced a finger over the jagged line, reimagining a day of betrayal and poison all over again. A leader of the sheep no more.

E: Except…this was a different kind of death. Dazai stood over Chuuya with his fists at his sides, coat long gone and lying in the rubble. The more he tightened his fists, the more his hands shook. His knees gave out and he fell to the floor, keeping his head low. A smile spread across his face. Painfully. His eyes stung, and when he blinked, he felt the warmth of something wet seeping through the bandages around his head.

The concept of Chuuya reverting back to enhancing people's abilities is so funny to me, I always wondered what would happen if he and Dazai touched.

Would Dazai nullify his enhancing or would Chuuya enhance his nullifying?

Both powers work through touch, and there are no exceptions to No Longer Human, so it should be nullified instantly and do nothing.

I have been told this is the boring answer. The FUNNY answer is that it causes a split-second reaction between them touching and NLH taking effect, and so when they accidentally brush hands they experience the equivalent of a static shock and both start yelling and complaining

ON THAT NOTE

I wanted to be funny in those comics, but actually, I was thinking about what rules his ability could have. I think it's more interesting if it's always active, because that way he still has somewhat the potential of being a walking disaster with his ability. And if it's always active and works through touch, I want it to work the same way NLH works, which means he'd need to touch the person directly (skin/hair) or maybe the tool they use (Kunikida's notebook) for it to work on them. That's where the gloves come into play :)

I've also seen some people wonder about Corruption (it's gone as long as All Men Are Equal is active) and what it could mean for skk. I know that's it's a common to bring up how NLH is the only thing to stop Corruption, how Chuuya relies on Dazai for it, how Dazai going away took that power away, etc etc etc.

But I really don't think that Corruption was used all that much during their mafia days. I think we're seeing the crunchiest parts of their stories; the amount of times Corruption has been used so far in the story is not representative of the average amount of crises in Yokohama. Otherwise, they would not have survived Dazai going away for two entire years, let's be real.

Their partnership was built on more than a trump card. Dazai is not such a poor strategist and Chuuya isn't that weak without Corruption that they would need to settle for their "last resort" every month or so. All of this to say that Dazai's relationship to Chuuya is not dependant on Corruption. Corruption was never their go-to solution, and while it was its use that landed them their nickname of Double Black during the Dragon's Head Conflict, it's not what made them work as a team to begin with.

Fem soukoku no ability AU

They're a saying in bungou highschool, that you never lived your life to the fullest if you Haven't been with Dazai Osamu .

The woman have a reputation to accept everyone with no exception even her strange habit of asking all those that she flirt with especially beautiful women for a double suicide doesn't damage her popularity.

They're a rules for her relationship no matter what they're always short, her longest relationship was with Oda sakunosuke, they broke up amicably and are still really close .

So why when she try to woo her chibi does it always go wrong ? Obviously it's all the stupid chibi's fault.

They say that love goes throught stomach so she had a fool proof plan : She'll make her the best bento that she'll ever had and she'll had no choice but to admit that the cutest, greastest and tallest dazai osamu is perfect for her and it will make chuuya's confess to her.

So why does her first try had a violet color and made chuuya pass out, sure she fantasized about making chuuya faint due to her charm but not like that, she nearly got arrested when her second bento produced a chemical gaze, her third bento was classified by the press and the government as weapon of mass destruction and her fourth bento exploded in chuuya's face.

And it was worse on Valentine day this stupidest and most oblivious chibi is popular with both gender which if you ask dazai very smart opinion it say a lot about the IQ of the students populations to find a slug charming, it's so pitiful she could cry.

It made that chuuya locker is always full of chocolate and others sweet and of course as a good and responsable owner, she have to make sure that chuuya does not see them after all knowing her silly chibi, she will either go into debt or overwork herself trying to give a return gift to all those who gave her present, so she's just being a responsable owner , she should be praised really.

She even do the rare efforts of going to school in advance and she's so generous that she share it all with their friends , she's just doing good deed really , after all ranpo-san, kyouka-chan and Kenji-kun are always so happy to receive them , she's such a good person.

With the help of her friend she tried to give chuuya handmade chocolate but her best result looked and tasted like a burn rock.

And it's not her only attempt, she tried making grand gesture but she only though them as prank, she even made a confession when they we're fifteen and chuuya acted disgutted , all that she does caused misunderstanding and chaos.

In the end it was her chibi who confessed and dazai's made sure to be compensated and pampered lots and lots for her trouble.

Halloween Shopping

Might as well dunk this here, it's pretty funny (and probably makes no sense), but I'll paste it here regardless. A little funny write I wrote roughly a few weeks ago, enjoy XD (PS. Keep in mind this was more of a rough idea than really any story, and it was meant to be a joke I sent to my friend)

Dazai walks up to Chuuya, who's sipping on some hot coco (either takes wine, apple cider, or hot coco, nothing else), and taps him on the shoulder giddily. "Hmmm?" "Fukuzawa approved." Chuuya looked up at him now. "Approved what?" "Approved for Halloween decorations. If we buy them." A beat of silence. Chuuya yanks his phone from his pocket, dials up the nearest Halloween store, and snatches Dazai by the scruff, and immediately drags him. "We're going on a shopping spree. And we're decorating this place right."

Chuuya takes Dazai, borrows the Agency’s van, and drives off with a giddy expression. They arrive at the Halloween store and Chuuya is awed. At everything. It takes everything in him to hold back his feathers as he steps on buttons that activated horrifying animatronics, sorted through assortments of Halloween costumes, and pranced through the shelves of decorations, all the while music suited for Halloween played in the background. By the time they were done they stocked a cart full. “Dazai,” Chuuya whined. “Can’t we buy the whole store?” Dazai chuckled. “We could easily do that and more. But why?” “Cause, it’s so fucking awesome here. I’d want everyone at the Agency decked out for Halloween.” Dazai snorted. “It’s cute how much you love the Holiday.” “Well, of course, stupid. It’s the only time of the year I get to have my wings out and nobody calling me a monster or reporting me to the government,” Chuuya hissed to the brunette, much to his pleasure. “I know, I know, my little deity.” He pulled the cheek of the redhead as they made it to check out. The lady at the front boggled at all the expensive items, but cashed them in none the less, and reported it was about 560$, 79 cents. Before she could even finish her statement, she was handed Chuuya’s credit card. When Dazai mentioned they could afford the store and more, he wasn’t kidding. They cleaned the Mafia money and began investing it, soon becoming undercover billionaires, just to piss off people. And that meant they enjoyed themselves much more than necessary.

The woman looked like she had half a heart attack when the both of them weren’t even remotely phased on how much they spent on decorations, and wheeled the cart out of the store, bringing it to the van and unloading it. This time, Chuuya’s feathers sprung up, and he winced from the loud noises, but beamed at Dazai. “This is going to be fucking great. I can’t wait to see their faces.”

After all, that’s one of the reasons why Dazai decided to run through with this plan. To give the Agency a heart attack. But Fukuzawa didn’t put his foot down on any particular rules, except for the two having to pay for it, which was nothing on their end. So they drove back to the agency, and Chuuya used his ability to lift it up, Dazai carefully walking in front (because the redhead eyes him with suspicion) up the stairs, and infront of the Agnecy doorway.

Chuuya throws open the door grandly and steps inside like he owned the place, dropping the mound of Halloween decorations next to his desk and more boxes waiting behind, Dazai flicking his eyes over to Kunikida, who looked like the most bug-eyed chicken in history from pure shock. Atsushi looked at the stuff up and down. “Um.” Chuuya whirled to him. “Get crushed, or decorate with me?” Chuuya cracked his knuckles and offered a toothy smile. Atsushi didn’t even hesitate. “D-decorating!”

Eventually, the commotion stirred the others. Kenji bounced off the walls out of pure excitement for seeing these new decorations, ones he’s never seen before. Kyoka was surprisingly invested into it, and Chuuya took the two to show them how to decorate. Tanizaki flashed some of his ability as spooky holograms and laughed as Naomi dramatically squealed and hid behind him for protection. As the bundle unloaded, Kunikida grew more and more pale, and casually fainted in his chair with foam coming out of his mouth as now Yosano joined the party, Ranpo hovering around all of them with interest, since the Agency was usually quite bland every year for Halloween, poking and prodding at all the well made creatures, scary things, animatronics, flashing lights, and things that made noise. Eventually the entire place was decked out, and the entire Agency just gawked. It looked so freaking cool.

Sooo I am back on my bullshit about my silly little theories, let's go besties!

Okay so, I have been thinking about No Longer Human and All Men Are Equal and how they interact. As we know, at some point, Dazai passed the Entrance Exam to join the ADA, effectively fulfilling the condition of All Men Are Equal. Nonetheless, he tells Atsushi that All Men See Equal does not affect him because No Longer Human nullifies it, but I have been obsessing over both abilities and here's how All Men Are Equal could potentially work on No Longer Human.

First, this is what we know about each of these abilities:

No Longer Human

Nullifies other abilities (without exceptions*).

It relays on skin-to-skin contact (although sometimes Dazai needs to touch an ability-related item, such as with the Dogra Magra doll).

It is always active.

It affects ability users.

*This is according to Dazai himself, and it's the explaination he gives as to why he cannot nullify Lovecraft's Great Old One.

All Men Are Equal

It is activated upon meeting a condition, which is passing the Entrance Exam.

It allows Fukuzawa's subordinates to control their ability better (as seen with Atsushi and Kyouka).

It affects abilities.

Now, I know this is pure crack, but I have a few observations regarding No Longer Human:

Dazai needs to touch another ability user, or an ability-related object, in order to nullify an ability. Not its Target, as seen in the Cannibalism arc when he couldn't cure Fukuzawa or Mori from Pushkin's ability.

This is reinforced by the fact that Dazai can touch other ADA members, whose abilities are being affected by All Men Are Equal, without nullifying All Men Are Equal itself.

Dazai says Great Old One is not an ability and that's why he can't nullify it, because according to him, No Longer Human is infallible. This could be true. Or it could be not.

No Longer Human does nullify something that is not an ability, though: Arahabaki (a presumed god). Now, this is kind of a stretch, but the thing is that Chuuya, Arahabaki, and Upon the Tainted Sorrow are three different things. I know this is a messy swamp to waddle on, but I think that the god is separated from the ability. If, for example, it had been Akutagawa being experimented on, Arahabaki would be able to control Rashoumon, right? So, the thing is, why would Chuuya come back to his senses while using Corruption after Dazai intervenes? Arahabaki could still be piloting his vessel without Upon the Tainted Sorrow, yet this is not what happens.

From that, I have certain theories about No Longer Human that directly affect at how it interacts with All Men Are Equal:

No Longer Human could not be as infallible as Dazai claims it to be (perhaps by ignorance or by choice).

No Longer Human may have some rules we are not privy to that make it more complicated than we are originally shown.

Now, what this implies with All Men Are Equal:

Since the interaction between the two abilities happens when the condition of All Men Are Equal is met, there isn't any moment in which Dazai and Fukuzawa physically touch, so No Longer Human does not react. It affects ability users or ability-related objects, after all (expections are made with Draconia's diamonds, which can be nullified by Dazai because they don't have ability users Dazai can touch).

Since All Men Are Equal affects abilities themselves and does not physically touch ability users, it is possible that it can affect No Longer Human.

By affecting No Longer Human, All Men Are Equal could potentially be improving it by making it truly infallible, which means that upon interacting, No Longer Human can now repel All Men Are Equal, since it's always active. By doing so, it again becomes "imperfect" and therefore can again be affected by All Men Are Equal. This would create a cycle that could eventually make Dazai a walking Singularity.

This could also mean that perhaps Lovecraft does have an ability after all, and Dazai just cannot nullify it. Don't get me wrong, I personally believe either that Lovecraft is a cryptid and not an actual ability user, just something else, or that his calamari horror show comes from a pocket dimension or something similar. But, still, it is a possibility.

So, that's all for now (I feel like I am forgetting some of my points but oh, well, this doesn't make any sense anyway lmao).
