So regarding the fake names, and how it could be bittersweet for machete to have to give up his real name for the sake of anonymity and safety, I had this funny little thought that the entire church genuinely forgot his name from calling him machete for so long. So when they hear about his death, or hear his real name they just go “who?” In response. If he was ostracized as long as he was I doubt any of the enemies he had actually bothered to learn his real name, kind of another massively ironic twist of fate where the very thing that they could use to find him and they never actually bothered to consider it.

And now the question (if that’s okay, I know a suggestion for way to explain why he still is named what he is can be a little rude) Where would they go? Would they head north to where Germany or France currently sits? South/East towards the balkans? Even further north to the anglo-saxons island? I imagine they would need to find a place where the Catholic Church can’t find them easily.

I don't know how plausible it would be for people to completely forget his proper name, but I can't deny liking the idea of him being able to shed the Machete persona and attempting to revert back to his kinder and more sensible self. From the time before his work filed his personality into a set of sharp edges.

Truthfully, I'm not entirely sure, I haven't thought that far. Trying to settle in a protestant country would be distressing, since Machete dedicated so much of his life to counter-reformation causes.

Discussing Joshua Graham in the fandom is really weird(outside the apologism bad takes etc etc) because i see a lot of content that kinda assumes mormonism is the same as other forms of christianity. Three equally noxious flavors of emotional violence inflicted on Astolfo by these supposed men of God:

Gano: Overt cruelty, flippantly dropping the bombshell that Astolfo just lost his entire family with callous disregard for the boy’s fragile state of mind. He may wear a cross slung around his neck, but Gano seems utterly devoid of the compassion preached by his faith.

Ponytail dude: Offering empty platitudes while he passes Astolfo the tools to his destruction with a smile. The quietly malicious action speaks far louder than his words.

Charles: Building a connection with Astolfo at his most vulnerable and weaponizing his guilt, shame, and fresh trauma from a (metaphorical or otherwise) assault so that the boy himself is forged into a perfect weapon for the Church. Sometimes the worst sort of evil appears as an angel of light.

Role-reversal AU where Machete opens a library on Florence and slowly becomes a very influencial local political figure, while Vasco's parents become fed-up with his "lifestyle" and send him away to the clergy (he probably has a brother in this AU, to make their decision more believable)

They reconnect in a similar way to the original, but their relationship is much more tragic as Vasco became self-hating and thinks he corrupted/doomed Machete in their youth and meanwhile, this Machete is trying to protect him from the corrupted side of the Church and possible assassination plot, that he's too indoctrinated to see happening around him

A interesting ending for this AU should be that Machete still dies, but results in Vasco finally running away from the clergy/inquisition (not sure if Vasco joins the inquisition or not, you can decide) and hiding in the country-side. Where he grows old dedicating various paintings and poems to Machete and possibly taking care of some noble's horses for a living

It's been awhile since I posted my art here.

A couple of fan OCs I sketched tonight.

The voa on the far right is a past executioner I had designed awhile back and only tonight put the finishing touches on his design. He's inspired by the minotaur of Greek mythology, but also inspired by bullfighting, considering that Divinity(the cult, aka bad guys) holds their executions in an arena, it was too good not to pass up. This poor guy met his end at the hands of the cult leader when something went wrong™ and he snapped, taking out several handlers with him before his rampage was ended. Such is the life of an executioner. I've named him "The Spear" or when talking about him with friends, I just call him Spearhead.

The lady voa on the left is a current timeline OC, a higher class lady who inherited her family's vineyard. She uses her status to give back to the community of Roshvrehvoavon, offering community service work in her vineyard and fostering troubled kits(which is how she came to adopt my other OC Verhnach). I've named her Inecha. She is commonly referred to as Mama Inecha by family and friends.
