Hello everyone :)
I'll soon start finishing up writing my Chuggington oneshot, but after the pilot of my Chuggington reviews, I'd like to give an update on them.
The reviews will return... ehh when I actually get to them. Same with my headcanons and OCs.
In the meantime, here's a brief, spoiler-free as possible list of episodes I currently plan on covering from both the original 5 seasons and S6 aka Tales From The Rails, and what to expect from them:
(These will not be in any particular order, but if there's an episode you want me to cover first that is or isn't on this list, please comment or reblog to sound off your suggestions at anytime)
Double Review: Can't Catch Koko and Braking Brewster (S1): The episodes that started it all - how good are they?
Double Review: Bang Klang Wilson and Cool Wilson (S1): Wilson has self-e-"steam" issues?
Mtambo's Amazing Adventure (S1): Some backstory for Mtambo...

Piper-Active (S6): Piper's excellent return to the spotlight
Chug Patrol: Out Of Control (S6): A fun S6 episode where Wilson gets his own Chug Patrol crew
The Royal Chugger (S6): In-character for Wilson, but a royal mess of an episode...
Brewster's Greatest Gift (S6): Organ Donor representation in Chuggington and Brewster's best S6 episode?

Been thinking about Mtambo recently and his worldwide travels before coming to Chuggington as mentioned in Season 1:
Mtambo in his early days would travel around the world to many places - from Zimbabwe to Antarctica.[1] During his travels on safari, he once came nose to nose with a rhinoceros that began to charge, but Mtambo honked his horn so loud it ran away. Deep in the jungle, Mtambo raced a jaguar, and it ran out of breath before he did. There was also a time he was lost in the desert, and along came a camel that guided him out.[2] - Chuggington Wiki
I realized I could get a few flashback episodes out of this for my fanseries. Mtambo would tell these stories to Astra, who is of course new in Chuggington and hasn't heard these yet.
The same could work for Piper, as in Season 6 we see her become a more common chugger at the safari park and even helps Mtambo from time to time. (Ex: S6E13: Piperactive, S6E43: The Record Breakers)
Tumblr media
And if you read my headcanon for Rosa, this is build-up to her becoming Mtambo's apprentice at the Safari Park when she moves up in training.
What do you guys think?

I might be the only one, but what if I told you I feel like Wilson isn't on duty with the Chug Patrollers as often as S4-5 make him out to be.
I mean think about it, Koko is on Speed Fleet because she's fast and she is a high-speed engine built for passenger work, Brewster with The Chuggineers because of his strength and he is a locomotive that's better suited for freight.
Wilson is kind of the in-between. He's not the fastest or strongest trainee, but still has quite a bit of speed and strength, reflecting the fact he is based on a EMD F3 unit, which were in fact capable of mixed traffic.
And in the show, pre S4-5, Wilson not only does just that, but a variety of other small odd jobs, and has a fair number of hidden talents too.
Even though I do not count S6 canon to the previous seasons for reasons I have explained before, I feel like the writers still knew this from how much we can only presume they've seen of the show, and had Wilson do other jobs aside from Chug Patrol again.
Tumblr media
Also notice how in between S5-6, Wilson has been shown without his gear more often than Koko and Brewster:
Tumblr media
So yeah, maybe Wilson isn't always on Chug Patrol, maybe less often than we think, but given the enthusiastic adventure seeker he is, that's totally fine by him.
Because as stated in one of the better S6 episodes, "The Fast, The Strong, and The Wilson," maybe he isn't the fastest, strongest, or the best at certain things, he can still do lots of things, even if he hasn't always known it.
Which is one reason why I love him as a character and why I feel he was written better in the first three seasons, because once they introduced the advanced training agenda, nearly every episode in S4 was strictly formulated on that and S5 wasn't funded enough to past 10 episodes, and Wilson's character in particular was kind of weakened. (Not that I have anything against Chug Patrol tho) Thankfully S6 was a bit of a course correction for him.

i'm kinda new to the chuggington fandom. i used to own the episodes on dvd but idk where they went. anyway! I figured it'd be cool to hear the thoughts of someone invested in the show, to get a new perspective on it, so i myself could become more invested! do you have any thoughts you'd share to an amateur train appreciator??
OMGOSH 👀 👀 👀 👀 👀WELCOME ABOARD!!!!! 🚅🚄🚈🚃🚂🚂🚂😄😄😄
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've been into the show since 2011-2012 I think... pretty sure before Cars 2 came out- or maybe after... memory's a bit rough in that area. I was first exposed to the show by my younger cousin who watched it on Disney Junior, or at the time, Playhouse Disney, and also had the DVD Let's Ride The Rails, which I now own, playing in my auntie's van one morning on our way to school. I would later track down Disney Junior myself to find the show.
It was pretty much the main reason I've hung around Disney Junior. As a kid who loved trains because of already being a Thomas The Tank Engine fan, it just to captured my interest so quickly and I was hooked.
I'd say the characters and designs are mostly what I love about Chuggington. While there aren't really antagonists in the show they all have their own quirks and distinction from each other which balances it out well.
Wilson is both my favorite to draw and favorite overall. While I haven't gotten to making my own scripts for my planned fanseries yet, his ADHD personality is just pure spirit animal energy when I look at how he's characterized by the show and by myself. I also relate to him to an extent in some areas. He's practically my son lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The episodes are mostly well written, and miles better than Thomas was at the time... (*COUGH* SHARON MILLER *COUGH*)
Chris McHale's music for the show some of the most unique I've ever heard and the fact we don't have more of the show's score available in high quality than we do is a crime.
Production slowly went to hell since Season 3 onwards, due to investors pulling out for unknown reasons, resulting in S3 being cut from 26 to 14 episodes, Season 4 being rushed and strictly formulated towards the advanced training agenda, (but the episodes were not by any means terrible) and S5, while better than S4, was entirely funded by TOMY resulting in only 10 episodes. After that, Ludorum Entertainment was on the verge of bankruptcy resulting in the show being on hiatus for five years until Herschend Entertainment purchased them, but things weren't that much better.
Season 6 or Tales From The Rails is sadly where Chuggington truly dropped in quality due to Herschend's low budget and their inexperience with the show. Many characters and locations were written off and a number of the voice actor recasts were not too great. Not to mention occasional mischaracterization (mostly Brewster), continuity errors and overall rather shifty writing quality. The merchandise also plummeted in quality and the pandemic caused several delays, and this whole disaster ultimately led to Season 7 being cancelled as of November last year... 😔
While Season 6 was a failed comeback and is NOT fit to be regarded as canon to the first 5 seasons, it still has a decent number of episodes that are good to okay enough at best, and I do plan on rewriting the misfires of season 6 at some point.
Despite all the hardship this show faced, production, performance, and reception-wise, Chuggington is still very much an enjoyable and mostly solid series. I commend both Ludorum and Herschend for not going down without a fair fight and I've very much grown to love the show just as much as Thomas.
To the point where Thomas content is not my top priority anymore and hasn't been for some time now, seeing as thousands of people do Thomas content already while Chuggington content is very scarce and slow going, even with more people finally appreciating and warming up to it, since there's far worse out there nowadays... media ain't what it used to be so good f---ing luck... 😑
With all the moping and mourning aside, thank you so much for joining us, you don't know how much it means to me to have another person hyperfixating on this underated and criminally disregarded series, but it's important to remember that you don't choose the hyperfixation. The hyperfixation chooses you >:3
I am an artist, editor and headcanon writer, and slowly pushing to write up my own fanseries which takes place after S5, and I even have my own roster of original characters and locations in progress, one OC I've already revealed, and another that was actually created by a Tumblr buddy of mine, @lomotunes2008.
So make sure you follow my art account, @masterjarthub - with notifications on, cuz I may pump out surprises over there!
But for until then, welcome to The Chugger Cult! 🚂🚄🚅🚈😄😄😎😎

Enjoy your stay. 😊

A Chuggington fan? Heck yeah!
What do you like better- the original series or Tales From the Rails?
You better believe I am!
I prefer the original series. Tales From The Rails is unfortunately not canon as is as characters and locations are retconned and continuity is questionable, but it's mostly fine at best.
Some episodes presented some really good ideas that could work with some tweaking. A few were not so good because either they were just completely ridiculous even for Chuggington's standards or someone is just out-of-character, which Brewster in particular got the worst of by a landslide.
I plan on writing a Chuggington fan series that takes place after S5, which includes rewriting S6 in order to work in the original continuity. I'm also planning a Season 0 to fill in S3 and 5's missing episodes to meet the 26 limit. I hope to animate it, but I currently lack the resources and experience with that, and with how much I'd have to model myself, it's not something that will happen for most likely a hefty number of years.
But in the meantime, hopefully we'll get more Chuggington fan content online, as more people including Thomas fans have opened up to it in recent years. Calleyfan is still going with his Roblox game and WaksWorldRebooted is working on a yet-to-launch one with some friends of his. And I hear SteamOddity from Youtube has a Chuggington project in the works and I'm hoping he doesn't bail on us like Herschend did with S7... 😅 (REALLY Hoping those scripts get leaked)
Thank you so much for the ask! 😄

Chuggington Headcanon: Rosa
Tumblr media
Tonight, we'll be talking about Rosa, the Spanish crane chugger introduced in the 6th season episode "Not From Around Here" where she moves to Chuggington from her home of San Locomota, to try and find jobs that utilize her to her full potential, and in the end, she is recruited by Zack as part of the Chuggineers.
Tumblr media
In my headcanon, Rosa never joined the Chuggineers.
The reasons for this is because with how many characters and locations were written off and Herschend's rather mixed writing quality and their overall depiction of the world of Chuggington, (I'm not normally much of the reviewer type, but that elephant in the room shall be covered some other time) It really feels like they were hastily scraping the bottom of the barrel with the choice of having Rosa join the Chuggineers...
Another thing to note:
Tumblr media
Notice how the Chuggineers all match each other, Zack, Fletch and Tyne all have matching stripes and certain parts. Even Brewster has the Chuggineer attire to some degree, but Rosa does not. She still wears that brightly colored Carribean styled paint job.
Some of you fellow Chuggington fans who have been around a hot minute on the internet may remember user TranquilSkies, or on here, @chuggingtonfanatic , who is no longer active in the Chuggington fanbase as far as I'm aware, but around the time of S6, she used to write some headcanons for Chuggington herself, and I was greatly inspired.
In her headcanons for the Chuggineers, she mentions that Rosa turns down the Chuggineer livery in favor of her own, due to her still being very attached to her homeland. I very much see this being canon and while I agree that Rosa would have good character dynamics with the Chuggineers, having her part of this team just felt kinda forced and doesn't exactly sit right with me, especially since Fletch and Tyne were two of the characters cut from S6 and Rosa pretty much replaces them...
Now, I DO NOT mean to say this out of bias in any kind of offense, but I'm sorry- I... I just can't get over how trippy this feels... They did Fletch and Tyne dirty...
So now, this begs the question: If I am not having Rosa become part of The Chuggineers, what is her new job in Chuggington? Where will she go?
Well recently, I finally found the answer: An underused character, and an EXTREMELY underused location, both of which were ALSO absent from S6...
Tumblr media
...Yeah, I think it's already safe to say I'm gonna have to post a re-write of "Not From Around Here" someday, as well as the other misfires from S6, but anyway, here's what happens:
In this re-write, the episode plays out mostly the same, albiet with more characters of course.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After caring passengers with Koko, Wilson, on his way to deliver extra safety barriers, shows Rosa the quarry of Rocky Ridge where Speedy is working, and she helps him with his work. After deciding hauling heavy stone is not for her, Brewster meets up with Rosa and asks for her help; The Chuggineers are repairing a wooden bridge in the countryside and need some timber, so Rosa offers to pick some up from The Timber Yard while Brewster is busy collecting ballast.
Little did she know, she would not only encounter a familiar face on the way, but a VERY close call as well...
Tumblr media
As Rosa heads down from the quarry after getting directions to the Timber Yard from Brewster, she comes across Rocky Ridge Rickety Bridge, which is just before the quarry.
Speedy was coming out of the mine and crossing the old bridge with loaded hopper cars. Then there was trouble...
The weight of Speedy and his heavy stone cars made the old bridge sag and creak, and only after he made it safely across, a chunk of the bridge snapped off with a CRACK, about to crash down on another chugger!
Rosa rushed in and caught the falling wooden beams just in time. But when she saw who exactly the chugger she saved was, she could not believe her eyes...
Tumblr media
The chugger was none other than Skylar, whose model was reused for Rosa. Although we've known him since the 3rd season, he unfortunately did not get much focus due to the advanced training update in S4-S5 before he was written out. Regardless, he and Rosa are indeed siblings.
Thankfully, Skylar was not hurt, and he and Rosa were very happy to be reunited after so many years. Skylar did live in San Locomota with Rosa for a period of time before going of to The Training Academy in Tootington, to pursue his career of becoming a trainer.
By this point in the show, the trainees of Chuggington would become less dependent of both Dunbar and Skylar as their trainers.
As we know, Wilson, Brewster and Koko have well already joined Chug Patrol, The Chuggineers, and Speed Fleet, respectively, and Hoot and Toot are recently promoted to advanced training as shunting engines in The Depot, giving Dunbar the extra set of wheels he needed. Even little Piper would have completed the basics of training and find her own role in Chuggington becoming a frequent helper for Mtambo at The Safari Park.
With the younger trainees needing less and less lessons from Dunbar and Skylar, Their time would go completely into their work. Skylar became The Timber Yard's designated chugger, which would explain his semi-regular usage after S3, since The Timber Yard has not been seen at all since the first season.
Rosa and Skylar head off together to The Timber Yard and load up the timber to take to The Chuggineers. It is then Rosa finds that she really enjoys working there - loading and pulling logs was the perfect job for a crane chugger, and even better, she had her own long lost brother to share it with; she had found just the right job for her in Chuggington at last!
The two set of with the timber for not one, but now two bridges in need of repair, catching up and Rosa getting to know The Chuggineers for the rest of the day, which raps up the episode.
To this day, Rosa and Skylar work happily together at The Timber Yard, and while neither of them are part of The Chuggineers, they do help them out with certain construction jobs around Chuggington from time to time, and become very close friends indeed.
Although Rosa can be a little shy around those she's not too familiar with, it doesn't stop her from proudly sharing her heritage of San Locomota with all her fellow chuggers who welcomed her with open arms, and her experience and knowledge from navigating complicated routes to keeping loads even does wonders.
She wasn't sure at first, but while she is indeed still attached to San Locomota, she can now safely say that she is proud to call Chuggington her new home.
(Oh, and before we close off, I should also mention that Rosa and Skylar's close call with the bridge was also based one of TranquilSkies's headcanons, so credit to her)

Chug Of War is a fun episode, but it kinda makes no sense...
So something I've decided to try is analyzing some Chuggington episodes, to get a few discussions going and hear other people's thoughts on the show. Not every episode, particularly really good ones, really wacky ones, ones with kinda dodgy writing or ones that are legitimately not so good. The latter two are tending more toward Tales From The Rails territory.
I've decided to start with S2's Chug Of War, or Wilson And The Steam Team for the American audience.
Tumblr media
(Spoiler warning)
So what happens is that Vee orders for a team of chuggers to gather the rolling stock from the mine for cleaning, but because it's a dirty job, no one volunteers to go except Speedy.
Tumblr media
Speedy then suggests a Chug-Of-War (tug-of-war) to settle this, to which Vee agrees. Wilson is excited - until he ends up on Speedy's team instead of Harrison's. He tries to swap teams with Hodge, but Hodge refuses and Wilson gets caught by Harrison and taken back to Speedy's team.
Tumblr media
Annoyed, Wilson tries to sneak off again, possibly bailing himself out of the Chug-Of-War altogether, but Emery bumps into him, and then laughs when he sees Speedy's Steam Team practicing breathing, much to poor Wilson's humiliation.
Vee then asks for a chugger to fetch a peace of rolling stock for the Chug-Of-War and this time Wilson immediately volunteers - anything was better than breathing with the steamies.
Tumblr media
But then Wilson gets trapped in the underground store due to poorly shunting a hopper car out of his way, and it's time for the teams to head to Border Bridge for the Chug-Of-War.
Tumblr media
Dunbar assumes Wilson has forgetten what he was doing so no one thinks to go check on him and they proceed on with the Chug-Of-War. (Assholes.)
Luckily Emery is passing through on his passenger route and helps Wilson get free using Speedy's breathing method, allowing Wilson to help Speedy's team win the Chug-Of-War.
Later however Wilson shows up to help Harrison and his time with their job, which Harrison happily accepts, so there are no hard feelings.
Let's review
A train tug-of-war was a really cool idea for a Chuggington episode, however the way this was set up in the story is kind of a mess.
Tumblr media
Firstly, I really don't think you need a whole team of chuggers to clean out the mine. All they're doing is just hauling out empty wagons? You could just assemble a whole consist and haul it out in like a couple hours or so tops. I doubt there are THAT many cars just left inside a mine anyway. A two or three-engine job maybe, but seven definitely feels like overkill.
Secondly, let's talk about Wilson's line here:
Tumblr media
This would imply that Wilson has never interacted with any chugger on this team throughout the 52 episodes of S1, the only exception would be Speedy as he is fully introduced this season, but he's still friends with everyone here. If he said Koko and Brewster instead that would have been fine.
Tumblr media
Now it may sound like I'm overthinking this line, until you remember it's not much of a steam team when there are only three steam engines and the majority are not. You got three diesels and a cable car girlie my dude. This would have made more sense if they had introduced more steamies around this point in the show, doesn't have to be specifically this episode. Would've been so much cooler if they did that. It would open oppurtunities to learn more about Chuggington's days of steam.
Lastly, am I the only one who finds it a bit strange that no one, absolutely no one other than Speedy volunteers to go to the mine?
I mean, we had a whole episode in S1 where the three trainees get covered in mud and Wilson doesn't want to go into the Chug Wash, he doesn't mind getting dirty at all. I imagine the reason he didn't volunteer is because it's most likely implied that gathering the rolling stock from the mine would've taken a very long time and a playful and excitement-seeking character like him didn't want to be lumbered with that.
I'm pretty sure Brewster, Dunbar and Calley would be the most likely to volunteer, they've all got pretty good work ethics but yet here we are and I can't think of an in-character excuse for them. I would also say Irving would've volunteered because of his whole "neat and tidy" shtick, but then, that would apply to himself so that could also be the reason why he didn't want to go.
Maybe there was very little work to do that day and the chuggers would get some time off and then Vee suddenly coughs up this bullshit. Yeah... that sucks, I can see why no one volunteered then.
I also kinda find some of the chuggers involved in this just slightly strange, Mtambo is usually busy at the Safari Park, Hodge is roped into this because he's shown at the roundhouses at the start of the episode when he usually sleeps in Eddie's workshop, and would normally have work to do with him. But out of all the chuggers here, Zephie makes the least sense to involve in this. She's a tiny ass cable car! We've seen her struggle pulling one boxcar up the mountain, which is just a steep as the mine, and then crash coming back down with that same car loaded, and you're gonna try to send her of all chuggers to clean out a mine?! She'd just be dead weight!
Conclusion
Overall this is not the worst episode throughout Chuggington's run, I'd roughly consider it a B-tier in fact, hell, probably the least frustrating episode I'll ever talk about, but it's not quite the most suitable first choice to toss off to people getting into Chuggington either.
I kinda used to not really like this episode as a kid because Harrison was kind of an asshole to Wilson not letting him onto his team, so was Hodge now that I think about it:
Tumblr media
I mean I get it, Harrison choose Brewster because he's stronger, but Wilson has his power too. Harrison's bigger bastard move though was not dropping one of his team after Wilson went missing.
Harrison gained character development in the S1 finale, Training Time Harrison, promising not to be so selfish, and it was Wilson having an accident trying to copy him that made him change his ways, so surely he'd be gracious enough to give the young trainee who admires him a chance and play fairly?
Tumblr media
I guess not...
Thanks for reading, feel free to sound off your thoughts!
