February 2025 Escher Girls Patreon Thank You & Life/Site Update

Hi everyone! I hope everybody is okay despite everything going on in America and the world ):

As some of you who follow me elsewhere know, I've been recovering from sudden surgery for most of January which is why I haven't really been able to do much with the blog this month. I'm still recovering so this update will be short.

Before I had to get surgery, I managed to restore and update some old posts, they are: this old Black Widow post & an associated humorous redraw with Iron Man in her position instead, a great inked redraw of Yelena Belova by frequent EG contributor Deanna M. Brigman, a really strange cover of Yelena and Natasha fighting,and an old panel of Natasha from Avengers #399 which I finally found a source for.

All restored/fixed posts have working images, videos, and animated gifs (a lot were broken or deleted by either Tumblr or during the move to the new site), and have added image descriptions for screenreaders, sources, and links to the cross-posts on the site & on Tumblr.

I have also been looking through my email inbox and Tumblr inbox, and there's a bunch of submissions during the pandemic and site move period that I think I never got around to posting due to a combination of moving the site, the pandemic, and exam stresses. I'm really sorry for missing those, and I'm now processing and posting them all.

Leon Kennedy x Reader - Kapitel 4

𝑫𝒊𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒔𝒌𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒆

Das leise Plätschern des Wassers erfüllte das Badezimmer, als die Wanne sich langsam füllte. Der sanfte Duft von Vanille breitete sich aus, als ich ein paar Tropfen eines Badeöls hinzufügte. Ich verbinde mein Handy mit der Musikbox, und es erklang "Summer Song" von Elita im Raum. Die sanfte Melodie und die beruhigende Stimme der Sängerin ließen mich meine Gedanken abschalten. Musik ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil meines Lebens; sie begleitet mich oft beim Schreiben. Je nach Genre, Stimmung und Geschehen im Buch inspiriert sie mich. Manche Songs scheinen wie für bestimmte Szenen geschrieben, und es fühlt sich magisch an, wenn die Musik sich mit der Geschichte verbindet, die ich erzählen will.

Langsam schob ich mir den weichen Bademantel von den Schultern und ließ ihn achtlos zu Boden gleiten. Die angenehme Wärme des Wassers umhüllt mich, während ich vorsichtig in die Wanne stieg. Der erste Kontakt mit dem Wasser ließ mich vor Entspannung aufseufzen, sodass ich mich zufrieden zurücklehne.

Seit meinem letzten Besuch bei Chris liegt schon eine ganze Woche. Die Medikamente, die er mir verschrieben hatte, wirkten wie ein Wunder und schienen ein Schlüssel zu einem lange verschlossenen Teil meines Lebens zu sein. Endlich hatte ich das Gefühl, wieder ein Stück Kontrolle zurückzugewinnen, auch wenn ich wusste, dass ich vorsichtig sein musste. Chris hatte mich darauf hingewiesen, die Tabletten nicht zu oft oder dauerhaft zu nehmen. Aber die bloße Vorstellung an die Albträume jagte mir eine große Angst ein, dass ich mir einredete, sie unbedingt zu brauchen. Vielleicht war es auch keine Einbildung. Nach all den schlaflosen Nächten, die ich hinter mir hatte, fühlte es sich fast wie ein Luxus an, endlich wieder durchschlafen zu können. Warum also nicht dieses kleine Stück Normalität genießen?

Ich blieb fast eine Stunde in der Wanne, ließ immer wieder ein wenig heißes Wasser nach, um die Wärme zu bewahren. Die Zeit verging in Sekunden, doch ich weigerte mich, diesen Moment der Ruhe zu früh zu beenden. Schließlich, als die Müdigkeit schwerer wurde, stieg ich aus dem Wasser.

Ich mache mich bettfertig und greife eifrig nach den Tabletten, schlucke eine hinunter und freue mich zu schlafen. Ich zog die Decke bis zum Kinn und ließ mich tief in die Kissen sinken. Ein Lächeln huschte über mein Gesicht, als ich daran dachte, dass das Wochenende begonnen hatte, zwei ganze Tage, die ich für mich hatte, ohne Termine, ohne Verpflichtungen.

Ein Klingeln riss mich am nächsten Morgen förmlich aus dem Schlaf. Mühsam hob ich die Hand und tastete auf dem Nachttisch herum. Meine Finger strichen über die kühlen Oberflächen, stießen Kleinigkeiten um und fanden schließlich mein Handy. Das grelle Licht des Displays blendete mich, als ich die Augen halb öffnete, nur um die Worte 4 verpasste Anrufe von Jill auf dem Bildschirm zu sehen. Irritiert und immer noch halb schlafend drückte ich auf die Rückruftaste.

„Hallo?" murmelte ich heiser in den Hörer, als sie annahm, schloss die Augen wieder und ließ den Kopf schwer auf das Kissen sinken.

„(Y/n)! Sag nicht, dass du bis jetzt gepennt hast! Ich brauche dringend deine Hilfe! Hazel fällt heute aus, und wir haben so viele Reservierungen. Bitte, bitte hilf mir!" Jills Stimme am anderen Ende klang hektisch, flehend, fast panisch.

Ich blinzelte, versuchte, ihre Worte zu sortieren, und mein Blick wanderte träge zur Uhr auf dem Nachttisch. 17 Uhr. Mein Herz setzte aus. Es fühlte sich an, als hätte jemand die Zeit beschleunigt, ohne mich zu warnen. Geschockt setzte ich mich hastig auf, sodass mir für einen Augenblick schwarz vor Augen wurde.

„(Y/n)? Kann ich auf dich zählen?" Jills drängende Stimme holte mich zurück.

„Ja, ich versuche, mich zu beeilen," stammelte ich und klang alles andere als überzeugend.

„Du bist meine Heldin!" rief sie erleichtert, bevor sie mit einem eiligen „Bis gleich!" auflegte.

Einen Moment lang starrte ich mein Handy an, dann ließ ich es auf das Bett fallen und fuhr mir mit den Händen über das Gesicht. Eine Welle von Schuldgefühlen plagt mich. Wie war es möglich, dass ich fast den ganzen Tag verschlafen hatte? Ohne Hunger, ohne Durst? Ich zwang mich, die quälenden Gedanken beiseite zu schieben, schwang die Beine über die Bettkante und stand vorsichtig auf. Noch immer fühlte ich mich benommen, fast schwerelos. Nach einer Kleinigkeit zu essen zog ich mir ein anderes Outfit an und verließ das Haus, ohne mich besonders zurecht zu machen.

Mit einem Seufzen griff ich nach meinen Autoschlüsseln und fuhr zur Bar. Jill erwartete mich bereits an der Tür, und die Erleichterung auf ihrem Gesicht war fast greifbar. „Danke, danke, danke!" rief sie aus und drückte mir hastig eine Schürze in die Hand. Ihr Lächeln war erleichtert, aber ich bemerkte, wie sie mich kurz musterte, bevor sie sich abwandte. Ohne groß nachzudenken, stürzte ich mich in die Arbeit. Gläser spülen, Bestellungen aufnehmen, Bier nachschenken. Es war hektisch, chaotisch, und die Zeit verging wie im Flug.

Als ich zum anderen Ende des Tresens lief, um Nachschub zu holen, erstarrte ich. Dort saß er. Der Mann von vor ein paar Tagen. Er schob mir sein leeres Glas entgegen und sah mich intensiv an. Eine unheimliche Kälte kroch meinen Rücken hinauf, meine Hände wurden nass vor Nervosität, und mein Herz begann zu rasen. Es war, als würde die Zeit für einen Moment stehen bleiben. Ich redete mir ein, dass es ein blöder Zufall ist, doch es fühlte sich wie alles andere als ein Zufall an...

Ich zwang mich, mich zu beruhigen, und griff nach dem Glas. Meine Hände zitterten, als ich es füllte, und ich konzentrierte mich angestrengt darauf, keinen Tropfen zu verschütten.

„Danke," sagte er plötzlich. Ihre Stimme war tief und düster, sie ließ mir einen unangenehmen Schauer über meinen Körper laufen. Seine dunkelgrünen Augen wichen keine Sekunde von mir. Ich nickte stumm, unfähig, zu sprechen, und ging mit schnellen Schritten zurück zu Jill.

„Ich brauche eine Pause," stieß ich hervor, kaum fähig, die Panik in meiner Stimme zu unterdrücken. Jill sah mich irritiert an, legte dann den Cocktailshaker ab und musterte mich aufmerksam. „Ist alles okay?" fragte sie leise. „Ja... ja, ich bin gleich zurück," murmelte ich und wandte mich ab, bevor sie mich weiter ausfragen konnte.

In der Toilettenkabine lehnte ich mich schwer gegen das Waschbecken, meine Hände umklammerten den Beckenrand fest. Ich atme tief durch, doch ich konnte mich nicht beruhigen. Was war das? Warum macht mir dieser Mann solche Angst? Ich hob den Kopf und sah in den Spiegel. Das Gesicht, das mich anstarrte, war blass und müde. Dunkle Schatten zogen sich wie blaue Ringe unter meinen Augen, und meine Haut wirkte trocken. Mit zittrigen Fingern fuhr ich über meine Wangen. Ich hatte es vor lauter Eile nicht einmal bemerkt, kein Wunder, warum mich Jill so merkwürdig gemustert hat.

Nach einigen Minuten kehrte ich zurück zur Bar, wo Jill mich erneut musterte. „(Y/n), bist du sicher, dass alles okay ist?" Ihre Stimme war voller Sorge. Ich nickte hastig, griff nach einem Tablett und stürzte mich erneut in die Arbeit. Ich spürte ihren Blick noch lange in meinem Nacken, bis sie schließlich nachgab und sich wieder auf ihre Aufgabe konzentrierte. Ein kurzer Blick zum Tresen verriet mir, dass der Mann verschwunden war. Erleichterung kam mir auf, und ich fühlte mich um einiges besser.

Mittlerweile war es Mitternacht, und kaum war ich zu Hause, ließ ich meine Sachen achtlos auf dem Boden liegen und ließ mich für einen Moment auf das Sofa sinken. Trotz der späten Stunde war ich kein bisschen müde. Der lange Schlaf zuvor hatte mich zwar körperlich erholt, doch mein Kopf fühlte sich leer und unproduktiv an. Eine Unruhe machte sich in mir breit, fast wie ein Schuldgefühl, weil ich den halben Tag verschwendet hatte. Ich stand hastig auf, schnappte mir meinen Laptop und setzte mich an den kleinen Schreibtisch im Schlafzimmer am Fenster.

Ich öffne das Dokument für den historischen Roman und beginne zu schreiben. Dabei verlor ich die Zeit aus dem Auge und konzentrierte mich voll und ganz auf das Schreiben. Ich beendete eine Seite nach der anderen, und die Geschichte zog mich vollständig in ihren Bann. Die Welt um mich herum verblasste, bis schließlich ein Blick auf die Uhr mich aus meinem Bann riss. Es war fast 3 Uhr morgens. Ein leises Seufzen entfuhr mir.

Ich klappte den Laptop zu, stand auf und streckte mich. Mein Körper fühlt sich träge an, und ich hatte noch immer ein ungutes Gefühl darüber, wie ich den Tag verbracht hatte. Bevor ich mich letztendlich hinlege, um den Tag offiziell zu beenden, um dann einen hoffentlich besseren zu beginnen, wollte ich die Vorhänge zuziehen. Mit einer Bewegung griff ich nach dem Stoff und schob die Gardine zur Seite. Doch mein Blick verharrte mitten in der Bewegung. Draußen, in der Dunkelheit der Straße, ragte hinter einem der Bäume eine Gestalt hervor. Nur der Kopf und ein Teil der Schulter waren sichtbar, und obwohl ich keine Details erkennen konnte, hatte ich das unheimliche Gefühl, dass sie direkt zu mir hinauf sah.

Mein Atem stoppte, und meine Hand zitterte leicht, während ich die Gardine hastig zuzog. Mein Herz schlug so laut, dass es die Stille durchbrechen könnte. Für einen Moment stand ich einfach da, unfähig, mich zu bewegen. Die Gestalt war weit weg, geschützt von den Schatten, doch die Angst, die sie in mir auslöste, war überwältigend.

Ich zwang mich, ins Bett zu gehen, zog die Decke bis zum Kinn hoch und versuchte, meinen rasenden Atem zu beruhigen. Doch die Angst ließ nicht nach, und ich wusste, dass ich ohne Hilfe nicht schlafen konnte. Mit zittrigen Händen griff ich nach der kleinen Schachtel auf dem Nachttisch und holte eines der Schlaftabletten heraus. Ich schluckte sie hastig, bevor ich mich wieder hinlegte.

Gerade als die Wirkung der Tablette einsetzte und mein Körper schwer wurde, vibrierte plötzlich mein Handy. Das leise Geräusch ließ mich zusammenzucken. Zögernd griff ich danach und entsperre den Bildschirm. Eine neue Nachricht. Kein Absender, nur ein graues Textfeld war zu sehen:

„Ich sehe dich." Lese ich die Nachricht laut vor. Die Worte ließen mein Blut gefrieren. Meine Hände begannen zu zittern, und das Handy fühlte sich plötzlich schwer in meiner Hand an. Ich starrte auf die Nachricht, unfähig, zu reagieren. Mein Blick wandert zum Fenster, und mein Herz sprang mir förmlich aus der Brust. Das konnte kein Zufall sein. Wer sollte wissen, dass ich zur späten Stunde noch wach bin, bis auf die Gestalt vor meinem Fenster?

Ich legte das Handy zitternd beiseite und zog die Decke noch fester um mich. Die Panik breitete sich aus, die mich davon abhielt, die Augen zu schließen. Alles in mir wollte wach bleiben, wachsam sein, doch die Tablette zog mich unaufhaltsam in die Dunkelheit. Mein Bewusstsein wurde schwer, und ich verlor die Kontrolle über meinen Körper. Völlig ausgeliefert und wehrlos fiel ich in Ohnmacht.

great example of why it is so valuable to be always in the habit of talking about your shit to a wide variety of people--my woodworking bench has this bizarre issue where when I use it for sawing boards the whole thing resonates, producing a loud warbling tone like the world's worst cello. I couldn't find any mention of such an issue in any book on the subject or online. So I leave a comment asking about it to Chris Schwarz, widely considered one of the world's biggest experts on woodworking benches. He was also completely stumped with no clue to the cause or solution! But several regular readers who happened to be upright bass players chimed in recognizing it as what's called a wolf tone, what causes them, and how to address them.

I wouldn't have thought to search out musicians or acoustic scientists to ask after this problem, and even if I had, most I asked would likely not have enough background in woodworking bench construction to understand or address it. Looking at it from the outside abstract we're talking about niches within niches within niches. Too many that it wouldn't be possible to try and identify them all before starting, which is, I think, something many people are inclined to do when encountering a problem or thinking about trying a new skill or hobby, and which leads to them giving up at the enormity of the prospect. But in truth, on a human scale it's very simple. As long as you keep talking to people and asking questions the vast network of weird human knowledge and experience contained within all of us and everyone we know will connect those dots through paths of association strange and impossible to see from the outside.

(Wolfgang Becker), una comedia en la que un joven (Alex) oculta a su madre recién despertada de un coma que el Muro de Berlín ha caído y con él todas las ideas en las que ella creía.Daniel ganó el premio al mejor actor de la Academia de Cine de Alemania. Meses más tarde cosechó el premio de la Academia de Cine Europeo, así como el galardón del público. Tras la ceremonia declaró su interés por trabajar con Julio Médem y Fernando León de Aranoa. What's the secret? The tools are hand forged. And…? Follow the company on Instagram to see how much dirty work goes into their tools. I own some blacksmith-made tools that are hand forged and have superior working properties. But Barr's are still just head and shoulders above those tools as well.

I've come to the conclusion that the hand forged nature of Japanese tools is key to why they have the properties that they do — being easy to sharpen to an extremely fine edge while being able to hold that edge for a long time. It's good to see an analogous example in the western tool world.

My only quibble is the lumping together of Japanese chisels as one monolithic category. There's a difference between the 10 piece Japanese chisel set that Grizzly sells for $165 and a single Tasai chisel that sells for the the same price, like there's a difference between a Harbor Freight chisel and the ones that Barr makes.

[Rezension] Ich und der Weihnachtsmann – Matt Haig

Klappentext: Weihnachten in höchster Gefahr Aus ist es mit der Ruhe in Wichtelgrund – eine finstere Intrige wird geschmiedet, und zwar vom hinterlistigen Osterhasen. Das Wichtelreich soll untergebuttert und Weihnachten zu einem zweitrangigen Fest zurückgestuft werden! Das können Amelia, das ehemalige Kaminkehrer Mädchen, und Nikolas alias der Weihnachtsmann nicht zulassen. Sie kämpfen mit allen Mitteln der Fantasie darum, Wichtelgrund und Weihnachten zu erhalten. Rezension: Was mache ich nun eigentlich, wenn nächstes Jahr kein Weihnachtsbuch von Matt Haig erscheint? Richtig, ich lege mir noch das zweite Buch der Reihe zu „Das Mädchen, das Weihnachten rettete“. Nun muss ich erstmal das Tempotaschentuch wieder beiseitelegen, und nun habe ich auch Luft fürs Rezension schreiben. Ich liebe ja Wichtel, Elfen und alles was dazu gehört. Es sind Lebewesen, die in meinem Blog nun wirklich zu kurz kommen. Aber wenn diese sich zusammenfinden mit dem Weihnachtsmann und auch noch dem Osterhasen, und es zu einer tollen Geschichte entwickelt, dann ist Weihnachten oder doch Ostern? Oder beides fällt auf einen Tag, oder Matt Haig hat mich verzaubert. Nun habe ich ja gedacht, dass „Ein Junge namens Weihnacht“ schon ein Klassiker sei, und ans Herz gehe, aber ich muss sagen, dieses Buch geht noch mehr ans Herz. Diese Einsamkeit der kleinen Amelia, welche fast jedes Kind irgendwann mal spürt, weil es denkt ich gehöre hier nicht hin, berührt ungemein. Ihr Kampf sich doch behaupten zu können, das Zeichen für die Wahrheit, mit der Wahrheitselfe und der Botschaft, dass die Wahrheit wesentlich mehr bewegen kann als die Lüge, sind sehr starke Signale, die uns gerade jetzt bewegen sollten. Dazu kommt noch die Wärme und die verschiedenen Charaktere der Wichtel, die nicht immer einfach sind, aber die einfach Spaß machen. Zu der Geschichte von Matt Haig, gesellen sich wieder die Bilder von Chris Mould. Obwohl sie „nur“ in schwarz-weiß sind, sind sie mit so viel Details gezeichnet, dass man auch mal zwischendurch innehält und sich die Bilder etwas länger ansieht. Richtig hart wird es, als die Kaninchen in den „Krieg“ gegen die Wichtel, und im Besonderen gegen den Weihnachtsmann und Amelia, also den Menschen, ziehen. Wie es ausgeht? Na, das wird nicht verraten! Ich weiß nur, dass ich auch Stunden nach dem Ende noch immer denke, dies ist der perfekte Abschluss einer Reihe. Oder ist da vielleicht doch noch ein kleiner Faden, aus dem eine weitere Geschichte gestrickt werden könnte? Tja, das muss schon jeder selber lesen und sich überlegen. Natürlich kann man dieses Buch auch zu Ostern lesen, denn irgendeines der beiden Feste ist ja immer in der Nähe. Mehr kann man doch wirklich nicht erwarten von einem Weihnachtsbuch - was fürs Herz, eine Botschaft, was zum Lachen und man hat die absolute Kinderüberraschung zum Vorlesen, selber lesen oder mit Hilfe der Bilder zum selbst erfinden. Den Möglichkeiten sind, wie immer bei Kinderbüchern, keine Grenzen gesetzt. Aber egal wie, es geht mit viel Fantasie um den Kampf um Weihnachten und Wichtelgrund, welcher mich von der ersten Seite an gefesselt, und zwischendurch einen leichten Hunger auf Schokolade erzeugt hat. Dec. 2024 Update & Patreon Thank You!

Hi everyone!  November is over, so it's time for our monthly Escher Girls site update and to thank all our wonderful Patreon subscribers & others who have supported us!

No major updates this month, I've been dealing with a health thing, so major site changes were paused a little, but as a reminder, I have improved the submission page for those who don't want to submit or Tumblr or don't want to link their Tumblr to their submission. As a reminder, if you don't click that it is okay for me to reply to your email address, you won't get a reply if there's something wrong with your submission or I otherwise don't post it for not fitting criteria reasons/not being able to find a source.

As usual, I've spent a lot of time this month fixing up old broken posts, cleaning them up to fix formatting errors, adding sources to them, and adding screenreader descriptions to all the images. I've also fixed up the Tumblr versions of those posts, and linked them to and from the EscherGirls.com posts.

Hobby woodworker here. You absolutely can make anything today the same as was made 100 or 1,000 years ago. You just may have to join pieces together to get the width.

I recommend any of the Anarchist woodworking books by Chris Schwarz.
