So apparently making PikeUna lists is kind of my thing now...

Missing PikeUna or Pike & Una scenes I really wanted to see in SNW:

(Some of which I think have been really well covered in fanfics already)

Talking about La'an! Pike and Una are close, but she'd never mentioned La'an before she boarded the Enterprise, there's no way Pike doesn't beg Una for all of the gossip, or at least tips on how to approach and befriend this new Security Officer.

Honest conversation about Pike leaving Enterprise & Una following Discovery. After having spent much of that career together, that potentially could have been hurtful, especially as Chris didn't want to ever come back, and contemplated not doing so even when hearing she was missing. And even if it didn't hurt her, I think they need to talk about Pike's head space now he's back (even leaving the whole Boreth and the future thing aside). Make this either take place in sickbay (Una's leg was broken!) or after she's released, but I think having it in sickbay and MBenga being vaguely around, getting to see the two of them and their friendship for the first time would be good.

Talking about Una's revelation that she's Illyrian - We got a cute scene where Pike vehemently rejects her resignation and that heartbreaking moment at the end when Una questions whether Pike would have acted differently if she hadn't saved the ship. YET they don't talk about it!!!!!! That's a big deal, a massive secret that she's hid from him from decades. Chris must have so many questions, his head must he swirling. Una is anxious Chris only likes her still because she saved people. There are some big feelings that need sorting out, I can see them both being anxious about bringing it up, but there should have been a scene where they finally talk about it at some point in season 1. Maybe whilst doing the washing up one night it just comes flooding out.

Pike going to see Una after she almost died and had to be stitched up - A mix of fear that she almost died & anger that she could be so stupid & not seek medical attention earlier. I'd have liked to have this scene either take place in sickbay, or Una coming to the Captain's quarters (without approval to leave sickbay) still hurt but knowing that Pike needs somebody given that members of their crew died. A scene, to show their vulnerability with one another and that they have each other's backs.

Una and Pike trading stories after Spock Amok - Preferably a late night drinking scene, or she swings by for a late night snack in his kitchen. They're both in pajamas eating Brie and drinking wine, leaning against the counter. Pike bumping her arm that got shot with the phaser and Una wincing. She ends up revealing that she and La'an participated in Enterprise Bingo. Pike says he's proud of her and La'an for having some fun.

A fun scene between Neera, Una and Pike just after the trial- Something lighthearted to juxtapose the tension of the courtroom. Neera raises an eyerbow at Una 'seriously this guy?!! Have you seen his hair?!" Pike blushes, Una rolls her eyes. Pike is sheepish when he realises that after forcing Neera to travel across the galaxy to defend Una that he doesn't have anyway to return her to Illyria (it's not like the admirals are gonna let The Enterprise take a detour to that Non Federation colony right now). Neera commenting that unlike Una, his dimples don't work on her when he tries to apologize. Neera shakes her head and says she's already got a lift.

Una's return after the trial, Pike recounting all that she missed - Explaining all the stuff he did (abandon Enterprise against Star Fleet's orders, commandeer a spacecraft, go to Illyria, almost asphyxiate, find Una's old friend and the best civil rights lawyer and haul her ass to Earth...all to save his friend and keep Una in Star Fleet. Una yelling at him that he's so stupid to have risked his entire career, everything he'd ever worked for, for just her. Chris telling her quite frankly he can't do this without her, that he wasn't just going to abandon a friend he's had for decades. If they hadn't talked about her being Illyrian already this scene would be even more important. ALL the feelings need to come out here. It's raw, it's vulnerable, they're both crying, there's another hug.

Pike explaining the Illyrians' origin secrets that Spock and he found out (see The Illyrian Enigma comic) - I know he promised the Illyrians he wouldn't reveal it, but I figure Una is fair game, it is her heritage after all. Now that Pike has interacted with more Illyrians, and now know's a major historical secret, this would be an opportunity for Una to share some of her more personal experiences as an Illyrian (maybe). Now that she doesn't have to hide. Una is shocked that Pike reveals there may be other Illyrians in Star Fleet, he asks her what she wants to do. Una tells him she just wants to go back and do her job...but there's tension as she's torn between being selfish (focusing on protecting herself and her career) and helping others out there.

Debrief after Subspace Rhapsody - There's no way Una does not tease Chris mercilessly for lying to his girlfriend and being outed about it in song IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE bridge. On a serious note, I think Chris would also want to talk about Una's song 'Keeping Secrets' and what that meant. I think he'd be hurt by the lyrics of her song, that she always felt alone when he was right by her side through their careers. They'd have to have a tough conversation about the fact that Una had to hide, and she felt she had to to protect him, but also the joy now that she doesn't have to anymore. Something to talk about how things have changed now, and that she's figuring who she is now she doesn't have to hide.

Drinks after Boimler and Mariner go back to the future - Oh what a day. Like I know the episode ends with all the Enterprise crew drinking in Pike's quarters. But like, it would be cute to have a scene with Una giving Pike a birthday present and them talking about how they're actually feeling given events of the day. Like Una has to work through feelings that she's suddenly a Star Fleet pinup in the future even though right now a lot of people in the Fleet hate her. She'll joke about them being ahead of the times in celebrating a holiday (his birthday) 200 years before its cool and Chris would look sad. They'll talk about his future, but also what he wants his legacy to be.

It’s approaching midnight. They’ve been awake since 0400 but the urge to celebrate this year ending is strong. They’re here, side by side, Ship Mom and Dad, ready to look the new year in the eye and face whatever it will bring. 

Music is playing softly. Nyota would be able to identify it, but Una just knows it sounds sweet and plaintive, the kind of melody made to accompany falling in love or saying goodbye. 

Ostensibly they’re dancing, but Chris is sleepy. His movements are so slow and relaxed they’re really only swaying at this point, locked in a sort of rhythmic hug. His chest is solid and comforting pressed against her, and the brush of his stubble tingles her cheek. 

She tilts away slightly to get a better look at him. He follows her lead while maintaining a firm grip on her back, a slight question in his gaze. Una runs her eyes over the familiar features of his beautiful beloved face and reaches up to brush her thumb over his jaw. Chris smirks, likely anticipating a quip about him needing to shave. 

Instead she asks, “Can I kiss you?”

“At midnight? Always, Number One.” He reaches for the hand that was caressing his face and gives it a squeeze as he smiles fondly at her. 

Una isn’t sleepy, but by the Sacred Spring, she is tired. So tired of hiding in plain sight. She could play it off and let this moment pass like all the others before it. They could share another chaste peck at midnight. It’s a time-honoured tradition, an affirmation that Chris is her best friend, her Boy Scout - her person … but not her guy. 

But what if— 

“I don’t want to wait for midnight,” she blurts out. Smooth, Una. 

A number of expressions flit across Chris’s face in quick succession. Una’s chest flutters with a rising sense of panic before he seems to settle on a stunned smile and rapid enthusiastic nodding. 

“Okay. Now!” he says, and then he grins ruefully like he didn’t mean to make it sound like an order. Smooth, Christopher, Una thinks in amusement, grinning brightly because he’s on board. They’re going to do this! 

She closes her eyes and leans in to meet him halfway. His lips are warm and soft. At first it’s gentle and familiar, like any of a dozen quick kisses they’ve shared in their long friendship, but as it lingers…

There it is. The spark they both knew was there waiting for them ignites. 

He grips her face gently but firmly like he’s afraid she’ll vanish if he lets go. Her heart is fluttering again but instead of panic it’s full of joy and anticipation and something more. The love that was always there is now joined by desire.

Their kisses get sloppier as they intensify. His hands are in her hair and then his mouth is on her throat and she’s gripping his jaw and then his ass and he’s making low sounds of approval that are excitingly new to her ears. 

“Helloooo, Mom and Dad! You in there? You awake?” Erica’s voice chirps through the speaker on the wall. 

Chris scowls at the intercom and jabs the button with a little too much force. “Nice comm discipline, Lieutenant Ortegas. Very respectful of your senior officers.”

She laughs unapologetically, “Hey, none of us are on duty, Captain, and it’s a holiday. Live a little.”

“I’m trying to,” he mutters with a heated glance at Una before turning back to the intercom and clearing his throat. “Is there something you need?”

“I just wanted to invite you down to the mess hall. We decided to do a countdown after all. Spock has his harp. And there’s cake,” Ortegas adds in a sing-song. 

Chris and Una share a long look. 

“Mom and I will be right there,” Una declares.

Erica cackles as she closes the connection. 

“I’m Mom?” Chris sounds scandalised, and Una can’t help but laugh. He’s still her best friend and her Boy Scout and her person. 

“‘Fraid so,” she confirms as she straightens her hair and takes him by the arm. “Come on, let’s not miss the countdown.”

“But we’ll come back to this later?” He taps his bottom lip and motions between the two of them with his finger, seeking reassurance she is happy to provide. 

Not trusting herself to kiss him again just yet, she repeats his gesture and taps his bottom lip with her index finger. “Oh yes, we will definitely revisit this very soon.” 

P.S. Any half-baked ideas I have about Illyrian culture (such as the expression “by the Sacred Spring”) are based on @curator-on-ao3 ‘s beautiful world-building. 💕

20 Headcanons I have about Chris/Una/La’an as a family in an Earth AU

Chris is Girl!Dad

Una is Mommy

La’an is baby girl

1. La’an still loses her family and Una still rescues her, but Una begs Chris for them to adopt her and he agrees in an instant.

2. That first night they put La’an to bed together. Una wakes up in the night in a panic. Something feels wrong #MomInstincts. She goes to check on La’an and she’s silently crying and terrified in the corner of the room, but making no sound. Una picks her up, wipes her tears and cuddles her. Takes La’an back to her and Chris’ bed.

3. Toddler!La’an likes to spread Eagle across the bed. Una and Chris often wake up in the middle of the night to a little fist or leg in their face. Without a word to Una, Chris gets them a bigger bed.

4. Toddler/Young girl La’an is a thumb sucker

5. Chris gets addicted to Kids TV, he has lots of thoughts on Bluey, Peppa and Dora. Una is confused. La’an finds those shows boring but watches them anyway because it makes her Daddy happy.

6. All throughout elementary school La’an goes to school with immaculately braided hair. This gets the attention of the other school Moms, and soon Una has an unofficial role at birthday parties to make sure everybody has ‘princess hair’

7. When Una is on a work trip or otherwise unavailable Chris braids La’an’s hair. He’s pretty decent.

8. Una gets jealous when the other school moms flirt with Chris. Chris makes it up to her when they’re alone.

9. When La’an gets bullied for her being a Noonien-Singh Una sees red and definitely threatens the principle, Chris uses his dimples to smooth things over.

10. Chris as stay at home dad(?) making pancakes for breakfast every morning.

11. When La’an is sick Chris makes her the best home-made soup and they sit on the couch and La’an cuddles in Chris’ lap.

12. Chris is the most excited of the three to go to Disneyland. He begged Una for months for them all to go visit.

13. He carries La’an on his shoulders and points out all of the Disney Princesses correctly for La’an to see.

14. Chris most definitely wears Minnie Mouse ears, the entire time. Una has to remind him to take them off when he goes to shower.

15. He also ends up on the DilfsofDisneyland Instagram page (this is a real thing)

16. La’an makes Chris this absolutely hideous T-shirt at school that says “Galaxy’s best Dad” but he loves it and wears it absolutely everywhere for a week…until Una conveniently shrinks it in the wash. They stick it on a teddy bear instead.

17. Teenage La’an and Chris share a bond of watching sports games together on the couch. Una doesn’t understand.

18. Chris AND Una both coach La’an’s sports team.

19. La’an and Una head butt a lot in La’an’s teenage years. Chris looks on in fond amusement over how similar the two are.

20. Chris and Una dropping La’an off at college/the academy. Both Una and Chris cry…a lot, and La’an tells them not to be so dramatic. “But you’re our baby girl!” Replies both Chris and Una through the tears. La’an rolls her eyes but lets them hug her tightly anyway.

Just wanted to ask, what are the standout moments from both the seasons about, for, in, about Pike and Una? Ones that you remember or half-remember but they feel like they're the defining moments about them, or reveal something about them or just moments where they're together and we simply enjoy them, moments you'd love to write more fics about.

I’m glad you’re doing well. ❤️ Thank you for asking — this was fun to consider!

I understand the boundaries of your question, but I’m gonna color outside the lines a little bit to say that it starts for me in The Cage when Pike is so considerate of Number One’s feelings that he apologizes for the reasonable choice not to put her on the landing party. Then, on Talos IV, they work together so cleanly, handling the same equipment and picking up on each other’s ideas and plans. Yes, the episode kicks off the ship in the obvious way of revealing that Number One fantasizes about Pike. Yet the episode also makes clear why — a closeness and camaraderie that’s evident from the start. (And at the end. Colt asking who would have been Eve and Number One shutting Colt down, then Boyce pressing the question and Pike shutting Boyce down. Meanwhile there’s me ignoring the Lilith story to shout: “Her name is literally ‘Number One,’ y’all. Who else would be Eve?”)

Then we get to Discovery and she appears before him in a shimmer of transporter beam and the camaraderie, the understanding, the care for each other — it’s all still there. He teases her about her food and drink order. She teases him right back. She knows his orders before he gives them. He trusts her completely. It’s so lovely and comfortable and real-feeling.

There’s more in the Short Treks (Number One freaking out when Spock notes her “most careful study of the captain,” etc.), but let’s get to the heart of your question.

Strange New Worlds took the care, the camaraderie, the understanding, and deepened all that even more, made it so Chris has never served on a non-redacted ship without her, made it so they’ve known each other most of their lives, made it so we see them talk about life and duty and journeys whether in his quarters or the ready room, it doesn’t matter because the comfort they have with each other transcends location. Both times she even mentions resigning, he says absolutely not. Twice, he holds her service record in his hands and rushes off to do what he can to save her from a dangerous situation. And, as we all know, Mr. “He Views Resorting to Force as an Admission of Failure” (per Number One in Q&A) gets violent when Starfleet arrests her and is about take her away from him.

So, in terms of truly answering your question (finally), I love how, in the premiere, the second Chris walks in to rescue Una from Kiley 279 that she starts teasing him, he instantly teases back, and she knew damn well that he would come and rescue her even though he wasn’t technically on duty. I also love little things like how when he’s helping her get around despite her injured leg that there’s no self-consciousness in touching (even in underboob territory) because they’ve served together in close proximity for ages so why would they be self-conscious?

Which takes us to Children of the Comet and more talking and domesticity (yes, I can fully believe that dishwashers are a lost technology since that means I can watch them do dishes together) and sharing hard truths in his quarters. There are layers at the dinner party, stories and him teasing her in front of other people for everyone to be able to laugh together … and her deep care for his feelings when he’s not laughing at all.

Clearly, I could keep going for season one:

Ghosts of Illyria when he subtly checks in on her feelings at the beginning, then she’s so worried about him on the surface, and finally his stalwart support for her in the ready room.

Memento Mori when he asks how she’s doing — and the way he asks in the midst of a crisis with softness in his voice.

Serene Squall with the casual intimacy of her helping him put on his gear, then their history together and understanding via the Alpha Braga IV reminisce.

Quality of Mercy when she chases after him even though he put her in charge of the meeting, then his reaction to her being missing in the future, him trying to figure out what happened to her, him standing by the command chair when he finally sees her again, and, of course, as mentioned before, his reaction to her being taken away.

And I could keep going for season two:

Ad Astra Per Aspera, like, all of it but especially when he speaks of the loss it would be to him if she left, the fact that he’s an adult who suffered from asthma as a child yet he risks asphyxiation to help her, the picture of them both that she keeps in her quarters, everything about The Hug™️, and so much more.

Charades with the There Was Only One Couch scene and, earlier, the “🎶 first contact get down, get down, first contact get down” look on the bridge.

Those Old Scientists having them both like the communicator better than a commbadge — and getting how Pike and Una visually check in which each other so much than even their cartoons do it.

Subspace Rhapsody letting them kiss (I always say I will send a bouquet of flowers to the editor who put that in the show).

Under the Cloak of War showing him listening to her and trusting her where her talents exceed his.

I’m leaving things out that I’ll remember as soon as I hit post.

There are vibes and glances. There is body language. (🎶 There were moments of gold/ And there were flashes of light/ There were things I'd never do again/ But then they'd always seemed right.) There’s a certain groundedness that lets me believe these two truly know each other.

And, for all of that, I am grateful.

Do you even lift, Bro Una?

Una carrying members of the crew, becasue thats a thing now.

Una looked at captain pike with her eyebrow raised. “Captain, what did the ambassador just say?”

The captain had the decency to look chagrined. He cleared his throat. “Well…ambassador Talia said that as enterprises matriarch, it is ceremonial to carry me…um…your husband around the Mother Tree to demonstrate your strength, determination and selflessness. Thus concluded, we can begin negotiations for them to join Starfleet.

Una just stared at him unamused for a moment longer, making the captain squirm slightly under her piercing gaze. Then she turned to ambassador talia with a smile and gave a small bow. “Of course, ambassador.”

With that, she quickly scooped the captain up bridal style, held him easily in her arms and began to circle the giant tree while the rest of the Triani delegation followed, all holding hands.

“Chris,” una said somewhat exacerbated. “How does this keep happening?”

“What?” the captain asked with faux innocence. He draped his arms loosely around his number ones neck and beamed. He looked entirely too comfortable being carried like this.

Una rolled her eyes. “You know exactly what I mean.”

The captain just smiled up at her and kicked his feet a little bit. “What? I cant help it if everyone thinks we are married.”

Una scoffed. “Of course, you can. You really need to stop letting this happen.” She looked down at him with an eyebrow arched. “Remember the lecture la’an gave you after the mix up on Tsalia IV where they thought you and the entire away team were married?”

The captain grimaced. “Oof. Yeah, that was bad,” he agreed. La’ans lecture on potential security risks due to the captains egregious and overly effusive affection for the crew which led to a gross misunderstanding and required them to enact several DAYS worth of a fake married situation, still made him shudder.

“Yes,” una agreed. “And on Zelon III where they thought you and spock were married?” The captain tilted his head acknowledging unas words.

“There is that,” the captain agreed lightly.

“Or my favorite, Cathlos II where we had to watch you and ortegas try not to bicker us all to death because they thought you were married.”

The captain groaned at the memory. He gave out a low chuckle. “That was…memorable.” He agreed. Then he snuggled further into una as she held him tightly. “I think my favorite was Moop’sey Mons where you and I were married and somehow la’an and spock were our kids.” The captain grinned.

Una snorted then rolled her eyes. But she didn’t argue. Because…it had felt right calling la’an her family. And it had been adorable watching la’an and spock squabble like true siblings.

“My point is,” una said severely. “This needs to stop happening.”

The captain just shrugged. “I will do my best,” he promised as una finished the walk around the tree and gently set him back down. She smiled softly as she steadied him a moment. She knew he would try. But she also knew chris. This would keep happening.
