I am so excited that Synapse's release of this film is finally available!
You can order it with the limited slipcover at DiabolikDVD, which is a seller I highly recommend in general.
I had sworn off buying any other movies for the rest of June at least, but I had to order this one.
[Note: This appears to just be the US cut, but it features "Deleted & Alternate Scenes" so hopefully that gives us at least a tiny glimpse of the original cut of the film]

The great thing about this movie is that this poster art is both entirely accurate and hilariously dishonest, thanks to the crocodile constantly changing size.

sien-chorak married her husband largely to annoy her family by wedding a man of no great lineage or distinction. she then accompanied him overseas to what she liked to call "reman's anthill" largely to annoy her family by wasting time with distant royals of no great lineage or distinction + also because plunging a bored and ambitious versidue-shaie into the fractious court of reman iii was the next-best thing to buying him crusader kings (not invented yet)

Elder Scrolls: Possible portrait of Akaviri Potentate.
The tradition of depicting tsaesci in a thoroughly anthropomorphic fashion, may actually predate the "damnatio memoriae" issued against this race (once proudly prolific in all the upper echelons of imperial society) in the aftermath of dissolution of Akaviri Empire. One, after all, understands the need to assuage the apprehension of the populace being governed by creatures the sources describe as towering, eel-like and vampiric. And given the texts (having gone through stringent censorship) have been allowed but a momentary candor to suggest decidedly serpentine features of Akaviri Potentates—we should deny ourselves the comfort of this "conventionally monstrous" interpretation. I for one am not prepared to dismiss the notion of them having four arms, especially in relation to a passage lauding Savirien Chorak's ambidextrous wielding of swords. Another remarkable feature of this painting (besides its faithful depiction of imperial scale-mail armour) is that the mask looks almost identical to another famous artifact—The Battle Mask of Almalexia—which itself perhaps been made in commemoration of sinking of Tsaesci fleet at Bal Foyen.
Digital painting. Made in Krita. Feel free to repost.

i am of the opinion that some tsaesci live for extended periods of time, but in the same way that like, the nord demons inexplicably lived for hundreds of years despite being nords. they are profound outliers. powerful tsaesci warriors who fought against dragons had extended lifespans, but to them, the reason they kept on living was to keep hunting dragons until the day the hunt is finally over with or they die in battle. it's kind of a solemn duty type thing and not a heehee i am an immortal overlord thing.
notably versidue-shaie and savirien-chorak were NOT powerful tsaesci warriors who fought against dragons. as per jiub and shal's headcanon, versidue got in touch with the telvanni about extending his lifespan through magic for political "not letting the empire instantly fall apart when his son who hates him inherits" reasons. and a side of "maybe one day i can reconcile with my son and make him understand that i literally had nothing to do with killing his boyfriend" reasons. and even this, versidue did this with that same culturally inherited sense of "i cant die yet, i have a duty that requires me to keep living." chevalier renald and the other dragonguard who became vampires did that too for similar reasons. they basically surrender their lives as mortal people in order to live on in the tireless service of some important burden

In Ardabil turkish we say "chorah"/"chorak" which means both "bread" and "food"
Our Japanese class found it funny that in common terminology "food" isn't very distinguished from specifically "rice" until it was pointed out to us that in English "meal" is "loose roughly ground grain"

 Special Investigation (1974)
A Special Investigator (1975)

If you have any idea where to find Crocodile Fangs, let me know. The currently available Korean VHS is simply the US cut with Korean subtitles.

hey did anyone ask for your first impression on versidue shaie. can i hear that
first impression: the scheming advisor trying to usurp the throne is invariably my favorite character in any fantasy work so i skimmed 2920 for the first time like "i could not at knifepoint care about what sotha sil is doing. where's the muahaha guy and his eeheehee son." and then versidue and savirien muahaha'd and eeheehee'd their way to masterfully usurping the throne. i lost it
impression now: i interpret the 2920 books as texts rife with bias and versidue-shaie as a historical figure who's served for centuries as a convenient scapegoat for imperial historiographers. he didn't betray reman solely for power or petty revenge; he betrayed reman—initially with the intent to put reman's heir on the ruby throne, not himself—because reman was terrorizing his own people and feeding them en masse to a pointless endless war
favorite moment: "simply tell people what they want to hear in a way that gets them to do what you want them to do. what, like it's hard"
idea for a story: currently making progress on the one that tells the story of the emperor's favorite consort rijja blackmailing versidue-shaie into helping her extricate herself from reman's court (her willing complicity in shaie's plot to do away with reman being what townway later interprets as shaie ruthlessly framing her)
unpopular opinion: he would agree with me on this one. sien-chorak's paintings are good. she was just ahead of her time. they're abstract
favorite relationship: all of them lmao...his disastrous and tragic dynamics with his wife and son. his disastrous and tragic dynamic with reman's son (who looked to him as a mentor and parent). the nervewracking matador-and-bull thing that he and reman had going on for two decades. his cautious fondness of dinieras-ves (his preferred heir and one of his illegitimate grandsons) near the end of his rule, at which point he was wholly estranged from savirien-chorak and various pressures both political and interpersonal had him slipping dangerously towards acting like reman. i doubt that the story of the reman dynasty and the akaviri potentates would have been much happier if juilek had lived but his accidental death did destroy not just the lives of everyone who cared about him but their ability to care about each other
favorite headcanon: it's all headcanon with this guy

Chapter 11: Clear The Air
Chapter 10 Here - Chapter 12 Here
Several days go by, and Yondu doesn’t see much of you. What happened with Trenvik really damaged what confidence you had aboard the Eclector. This really took it’s toll on you both mentally and physically. You feel violated. The event could have been worse, but that Chorak still took something away from you. Although you really can’t pin down what that something is, you just feel helpless and weak. Kraglin has been bringing you meals while you work from your cabin. He stops by three times a day, and a few times in between just to check up on you. The two of you have gotten pretty close over the past few days. There is a soft knocking on your door, and Kraglin pokes his head inside after punching in your key on the number pad.
“Hey, I gotcha some tea. I wasn’t sure if ya’d be hungry yet, but I thought at least somethin’ warm might be nice.” He approaches your desk and sets the cup down, steam gently rising from the top.
“Thanks, Kraglin. Tea does sound nice.” You don’t really move or say much else. The silence begins to get tense, and Kraglin taps his thumbs together.
“So…ya think ya might wanna take a walk with me today? We don’t have to go far, and the guys are all off ship, nobody is around – promise.”
“Off ship? Where are we?” You ask, rather surprised.
“Cap’n wanted to take the boys out for a little break. He brought us to our usual place, Contraxia. We usually do that after a big score. That client paid us real well for them jewels ‘n stuff we took from Johpar. We’ll be sittin’ pretty fer a while.” He smiles.
“Contraxia?! Oh, god.” You roll your eyes and bring your palm to your forehead. You know a little about this planet, your boss used to talk about it when you were slow at the pawn shop. All you know is that there’s hookers, and drugs, and tons of booze.
“Ya know this place?” Kraglin asks with one eyebrow raised.
“I’ve never been here, but I know of it. My old boss used to talk about this planet. I’ve heard all I need to know.” You roll your eyes and play with the tag on the tea bag.
“Oh. Well, we don’t have ta leave the ship if ya don’t wanna. I just think it would be good fer ya ta get outta this room. You’ll go nuts in here!”
“Where’s Yondu?”
“I think he’s at a bar down there with Tullk, Oblo and some of the others.”
You sigh and sip your tea. You really don’t like the idea of Yondu being down there. Trust was something that the two of you hadn’t really had a ton of time to work on, but he did save your life the other day, so why wouldn’t you trust him to be faithful? I guess it’s good for morale. The Captain does need to be out with his men.
“How about this - I finish my tea and get dressed, and you can take me down to that disgusting excuse of a planet and show me around a little? But absolutely no brothels! Deal?”
“Deal! Go ahead and get ready and I’ll meet ya down at the docking bay in 20?”
You laugh lightly at his excitement and playfully nudge him. “Sounds good…” Just before he gets to the door you stop him. “Hey, Kraglin? Thank you…for making sure I was okay and checking up on me these past few days. What happened with Trenvik…it really did something to me, ya know?”
“Don’t mention it. Yer one of us. But more than that, ya make the Cap’n real happy. That makes me real happy. Cap and I go back a long ways, and ya mean a lot to us both y/n.” He smiles gently and nods, and disappears out your door.
You get dressed in a clean set of leathers and throw a coat over top with a black scarf. Unless anything has changed, you remember your boss talking about how it snows on Contraxia year-round. You find your mind wondering back to Kraglin again as you lace up your boots. Ya know, Kraglin is such a great guy. If he wasn’t so damn shy, he wouldn’t be single. Poor guy. You smirk at the thought.
~~~
You and Kraglin touch down on Contraxia and you both walk toward the bars and brothels in the snow. The streets are lit with loads of neon lights and signs. You notice there are a few restaurants and tattoo shops too.
“Hey, I think the Cap’n and the guys are at that bar over there.” Kraglin points to a larger metal building with a sign on the side that seems to be in a language you can’t read.
“Uh, Kraglin? Can we just…not go in there?”
“Why? Did ya wanna go somewhere else?” He asks, confused.
“Yeah, that would be great. I just don’t really want to see the Captain yet.”
“Are you two okay?”
“I think so, it’s just…something else happened before you guys went to Knowhere.” You rub your arms from the cold. “Is there somewhere else we can go to talk about it? Somewhere quiet?”
“Uhh, sure. There’s a little coffee place at the end of the road here.”
“Coffee?!”
Kraglin laughs loudly at your reaction. “Yeah, coffee. We do have some Terran things out here, ya know. We don’t have much, but coffee has definitely gained popularity over the years. There’s even some little farms that grow that stuff on Xandar. Just ‘cause ya ain’t seen other races on yer planet, don’t mean we haven’t stopped by ta look around."
“Woah…I had no idea. That’s really cool. A little unnerving, but cool. Remind me to ask you more about that later. I need coffee! Let’s go!” You grab Kraglin’s hand and hurry down the street toward the shop.
The two of you enter the coffee shop, and find a seat near the window. After your drinks arrive, you speak up after taking a few sips.
“Okay, so before you guys left the ship, I kinda said something to the Captain I maybe shouldn’t have...not yet at least.”
“What kinda’ somethin’”?
You hide your face behind your hands and sigh. “I might have accidentally told the Captain that I loved him, among other things. Truthfully, I do – ya know, love him. But he didn’t say much of anything back and I panicked.” You don’t hear a reply for a few seconds. You drop your hands to see what horrific expression Kraglin has on his face. To your surprise, there isn’t any expression, he is just nonchalantly drinking his coffee.
“He told me.”
“What?! He told you?!”
“Yeah, he told me. To be honest, I wasn’t all too surprised. You Terran’s have a thing about love. You’d be surprised how alike Terrans are to us Xandarian’s. We have a thing about love too. That’s something Quill and I always had in common. We understood each other, I guess that’s why we got along so damn well.” He finished with a smile.
“Okaaay, so what else did he say?”
“Look y/n, yer my friend, and I care about ya a lot. That’s why I think you ‘n the Cap’n should talk about it. I will say that he ain’t mad or put off, but he just ain’t used to it. The Cap’n hasn’t had the most fantastic life. Love ain't never really been apart of it neither. Just be patient with him is all.”
After a few minutes of silence pass, Kraglin speaks up again. “Maybe ya should talk to him tonight? Just clear the air and see where things go?”
A light laugh bubbles up to your lips and you look at him, not surprised. “Since when did you get so good at relationship advice?”
Kraglin just shrugs. “Honestly, couldn’t tell ya. Maybe I’m just level headed? Dunno.”
“You really shoudn’t be single, ya know that?” You tease.
“I had a girl a long time ago. But, bein’ a Ravager makes relationships hard. Unless another girl just falls from the stars onto our ship, I don’t see that being in the cards fer me.”
“Yeah, well, if things can turn around for Yondu, I’m sure they can for you too.”
~~~
Back at the bar, Yondu couldn’t really get into the celebration spirit. Your frightened expression from the other day in your office wouldn’t leave his mind. The men were beyond happy with their payday, and super drunk. Sex bots were everywhere, and it was all he could do to keep them off of him. He eventually decides to just leave. He gets up from his stool, and Tullk taps his arm.
“Hey, ya alright Cap’n?”
“Yeah, yeah ‘m fine. Just tired, gonna head out.”
“We’ll see ya later then?”
“Yeah, sure.” He replies as he’s walking out the door.
Yondu heads back to the Warbird so he can call Quill. He’s got to know what to do. Quill is Terran, and he’s…younger. Maybe he’ll have some kind of advice on how to handle this.
He sits down and taps a few buttons on the console. The screen beeps for a few moments and then an image pops up. He sees a large grayish green looking man with bright red tattoos.
“Oh, Hello Yondu. Are you looking for Quill?” Before he can answer, Drax turns and yells behind himself. “QUILL! Your father is on the communicator! He needs to speak with you!”
Yondu leans his face onto his fist and rolls his eyes. These “Guardians” are really somethin’…
From the distance, Yondu can hear Peter yell back, “My Father? What the heck are you talkin’ about Drax?” Peter comes into view and see’s Yondu’s unamused expression on screen. “Oh, hey ol’ man, what’s up?”
“I got somethin’ I need ta talk with ya about, but it seems like yer a little busy.”
“Nah, it’s fine. I was just helpin’ Rocket with some plans for a new blaster that launches explosives! We just left Xandar, we were picking up some supplies. What did you need?” Quill asks.
“This ain’t an easy thing ta talk about…do ya think ya could go to another room er somethin’? I don’t need everybody hearin’ all about it.”
Peter’s expression turns a mixture of concerned and awkward. “Uhh…yeah sure. Is everything okay?” he moves Yondu’s transmission onto a handheld communicator and heads to the back of the ship. He enters his quarters and closes the door. “Okay, shoot.”
Yondu takes a deep breath, and exhales slowly to try and calm his nerves. “Long story short, Krags and I hired a new Terran girl to help with record keeping, transmission logs and mission details and stuff. We’ve gotten close over that time and now, well…she’s ma girl.”
“Woah! Yondu! She’s really Terran?! That’s so awesome man! I always knew you had it in you. What’s her name?”
“Her name’s y/n, and she’s really somethin’. I never met anyone like her. She’s really special ta me, but there’s somethin’ else I need to ask ya.”
“Okay…”
“The other day we made a stop out at Knowhere to sell some stuff, and she said somethin’ ta me. We both kinda panicked, but I think it mighta been my fault. See, she told me she loved me, but she said it so casually and it came out so natural soundin’. I didn’t expect it at all, and I didn’t exactly say anything back. She freaked out and ran off. Now, I don’t know what ta do! Is that normal fer Terrans?”
“Wow, okay. That’s a lot to unpack. So, let me ask you this. Do you love her?”
“Well, see that’s the other thing I need to ask ya. I don’t exactly know what that is. Boy, I ain’t Terran, and I ain’t no good with this love stuff. I figured, with ya bein’ Terran ‘n all, you might know what it means ta love someone and maybe ya’d know if that’s what y/n and I have.” Yondu’s expression turns sheepish, and he rubs the back of his neck as he waits for Peter’s answer.
“Oh, that’s easy! Love is something that happens between two people, and it’s a feeling that is super strong. You feel like you can do anything – unstoppable almost. Some people say it makes you feel like you’re floating, like you could almost fly. There’re loads of movies about love I remember from being a kid. The point is, you’d do anything to see them smile, you want to always make sure they’re happy and cared for. Gamora is in a similar boat with you, but we work on it.” Peter’s smile grows at the mention of Gamora.
“Well shit…” Yondu stares at something on his control council. “Okay, so yeah…I think that about pins it down.”
“So, you love her?” Peter asks.
“Heh, yeah boy, I guess I do.”
“Alright, well there you go! Look man, love is supposed to be easy. That’s not to say that you won’t have any disagreements or the occasional fight. That’s normal, but let go and just try to fall in.”
“Yeah, that makes sense. So, I guess all that’s left ta do is go tell her. Right?”
“Right.” Peter crosses his arms confidently and glances off screen. “Anything else you need? Rocket sounds like he’s getting pissed. I want to make sure he doesn’t blow something up or break anything.”
“Yeah boy, that’s it. But listen, thanks. I was at ma wits end over here.”
“No problem, Yondu. Now go tell her!” Peter laughs.
“Alright, alright. I’m goin’!” Yondu ends the call, and heads off the Warbird to find you.
Yondu starts to make his way back to the bars when he notices you and Kraglin walking to his smaller M-ship. The captain makes his way toward you in the snow, and you stop short.
Kraglin notices you stop. “Ey, it’s okay. You should talk to ‘em. I’ll see ya back on the Eclector?” He says as he reassuringly pats your shoulder.
“Yeah, okay.”
“Comm me if ya need anythin’.”
Kraglin walks past Yondu and nods, and he boards his small craft. You stuff your hands in your pockets and watch Yondu approach you.
“Hey, uh…” he starts. “I was wonderin’ if we could talk? Things have been a little off since the other day. Can I take ya back to the Warbird?”
“Yeah, I think that would be fine. We do need to talk.”
As the two of you walk to the Warbird, Yondu throws his arm over your shoulder to pull you closer. The warmth and weight of his arm makes your heart flutter. The feeling of security and safety brings a quiet smile to your face. Yondu glances at you from the corner of his eye and smiles too. It’s at this point he remembers what he is about to do. Anxiety strikes him in the chest and he can feel his heart begin to race. He swallows, and closes the door to the M-ship after you step inside with him.
You take a seat in the copilot chair and wait for him to speak first.
“Y/n, there’s somethin’ I been thinkin’ about and I really need to get it off ma chest. The other day, in yer office…well…” he looks down at the floor and begins to pace. “What I’m tryin’ ta say is – shit…this is harder than I thought it was gonna be.”
You get a bad nervous feeling in the pit of your stomach. Yondu can’t seem to find the right words and he’s pacing the ship even further. He’s going to break up with me, oh my god, he is about to break up with me. You can feel tears beginning to form, and he turns to face you. Your thoughts have apparently been written all over your face.
“Oh, no. No darlin’ it ain’t like that. I swear on all the stars, it ain’t nothin’ like that. Look, when ya told me ya loved me the other day, I didn’t know what ta do. No one has ever told me they loved me before. I wadn’t sure what love even meant, let alone how ta love somebody else. Love ain’t exactly somethin’ I’m used to. But now, I think I understand – at least a little.” He takes your hands and pulls you to your feet. With deep pull of breath, he finally gets the courage.
“I love ya too sweetheart. I do. No woman has ever made me so damn crazy before. Ya get inside ma head, make my hands all shaky, and when ya look at me ma heart races out of ma chest. I can’t even begin ta tell ya how outta the norm this is fer me. Heh.” His crooked smile shows how unsure he is. But you can tell that he means every word. You don’t have any words for him in return. His confession was more than you expected, so you pull him toward you for a tender kiss. He wraps you in his strong arms and returns your kiss happily. You both get so lost in each other that you almost forget to breathe. You break away from him and gingerly bite your lip.
“So…now what?” He asks.
“Well, now, we just keep doing what we’re doing. Build and grow, one day at a time. Don’t worry, I’ll show you how.” With a smirk, you head toward the dining area of the ship to get some water.
“Y/n, there’s somethin’ else I been thinkin’ about. What do ya say we make another stop? The crew will be well off for a while, and we have some downtime ahead. I have an idea I’ve been sittin’ on fer a while.”
“Sure, what’s your idea?”
He takes a seat next to you and taps on the table a few times. “I was wantin’ ta take ya back ta Terra fer a visit. Maybe we could find yer family. I know how much ya miss ‘em, and it would bring ‘em some closure. I can imagine they’d be thrilled ta know yer safe…and I wouldn’t mind meetin’ ‘em. If ya think it’d be alright?”
“Back to Earth!? Are you serious?! Yondu! Yes, yes! Oh my god, I can’t believe it!!” You jump into his arms and kiss him excitedly. “It’s been so long. I’d love to show you where I grew up and, well, my family might be a bit shocked – but they’ll get over it.”
“Alright, then. It’s a done deal. I’ll let the crew finish up their…merriment, and we’ll get headed that way.”
In the back of his mind, Yondu knows this is a huge risk. There is chance you’ll find your family, and you might want to stay. If he takes you back to your home, he could lose you forever. However, he understands now, that he’d do anything to make you happy. Even it that happiness takes you away from him.

What was life like under Potentate Savirien-Chorak's rule?
I doubr I would give you a more exhaustive list than a history textbook, because I’ve had quite the sheltered life and until I joined the army, and the Potentate fell when I was 15.
I remember mostly the fashion, which was very Akaviri and I’m always pleased when it makes a return in some fashion. The colour combinations were nice and soothing. Today they’re just loud and crass.
The Empire was more or less stable, the level of education among people was at all-time high. The Guilds often came to the Elder Council with propositions of new laws; mostly reasonable.
A lot of political murdering. Corpses everywhere. You had to be a shrewd person to get far in politics, because your allies would either die tomorrow or try to get you killed. Sending an assassin for birthday was seen as a good present, because it gave the child a sense of importance. Also it was common to have a lot of children, so ruling out the future competition came in handy.

The Secret Clanstone Pt. 7
Air seals hissed as the team removed their helmets.  They were now back in their private cargo hold, with their shocking live cargo secured.  Fuzi looked at the first living Mutilaxian he had ever seen.   It had not escaped his notice that only the bonds holding the creature to the chair had been cut.  The handcuffs the Snot was wearing had never been removed.  It had been an arduous task to get the Mutilaxian to their section of the ship without anyone noticing.  Entire corridors of the capital ship were cleared out as the strike team had moved their captive along with them, a rag covering his head in a laughable attempt to hide his species.  If anyone had disobeyed orders and seen them, there would be no mistaking the top heavy looking proportions and mottled, dried, mucous membrane the Mutilaxians had for skin.
Agombi withdrew the rag with more force than necessary.  Now uncovered, the Snot calmly viewed his hosts with an air of bemused joviality.  He didn't seem to mind at all that he was in a position usually reserved for criminals or those about to be interrogated.  There was silence as the team beheld their prize, all of them with separate feelings of either disappointment or dread.  The silence continued for what seemed like eternity, the humans glaring enmity at the ocular dome of the Mutilaxian as the eye spots within stared back nonchalauntly.  Finally, and somewhat surprisingly, Dragomir broke the silence.
“What’s your deal, Snot?”  The human said, expending his ration of syllables and efficiently getting to the point.
“Oh?  The Skails can speak after all.  Bedenik was thinking he had imagined it the first time.”  The Mutilaxian responded in an annoyingly calm voice.  Fuzi had trouble deciphering the meaning of what it had called them, but then remembered that the Mutilaxians used the giant mollusk Skails to hunt the same way humans used dogs… he had just been insulted.
The humans didn’t react to the jab, but then they were already staring at the Mutilaxian as if trying to kill it with their glares.  The eye spots within the ocular dome rolled in a very human-like display of annoyance as though bored by the lack of response. “You sure that’s within your pay grade, Skail?  Not going to compartmentalize the intel?  Usually you WENO types are more like ‘need to knows,’ Is Bedenik right?”  The Mutilaxian laughed at it’s own joke… or at least Fuzi assumed the rude flatulent sound was the Snot version of laughter.
“You are correct, but you have guessed who needs to know wrong.  There are no other teams, you will meet no one else from now on.  Your world begins and ends with the beings you see before you, and we need to know why you are necessary… now.”  Michelle said in a tone that had all the severity of a cocking gun.  The Mutilaxian’s respiratory sacks inflated and let out a slow sigh of exasperation. “Bedenik is your guide, of course.  Those very illegal stealth drones you keep at R2 can’t give you the whole picture.  You need someone to help you get in, and get out without leaving a trace.  Bedenik knows the way… and unless you have a super computer in that backpack of yours, Bedenik is the only one who can ID your target, whichever one of the bastards your government picks.”
It was true.  Every single Mutilaxian looked the same to Human, Chorak, and Furka eyes.  Not because of racism… well, not just because of racism.  The creatures were perfectly identical in the shared “visible spectrum” of the three species.  Dubachi and Cariz’n could see the ultraviolet patterns the creature’s sported, but the patterns were as useful as having a fingerprint for identifying someone from a distance.  Only fellow Mutilaxians or a powerful analytics device could tell one Snot from another.
There were another few moments of staring between Agombi and the Mutilaxian that called itself Bedenik before the dark skinned human finally let out a dismissive snort.  The fireteam began moving towards the prefab to remove their gear, one team member always standing by to watch the enemy being.  Not one of the humans made a move to uncuff the Mutilaxian, and while Fuzi had to think about it for a moment, he agreed with this attitude.  Just because the Snot wanted other Mutilaxians dead, didn’t mean it still wasn’t a threat to them.  The Furka moved along with the rest of his fireteam and left Bedenik cuffed on the chair.  For its part, the Mutilaxian simply adjusted itself to slouch more comfortably in the chair and waited.
The team was done changing back into their normal duty fatigues by the time Mr. Dross arrived.  Fuzi noted that every one of them had kept their service pistols on them, and had followed suit.  Mr. Dross made a beeline for the Snot as soon as he entered the room.  As always, the human was nothing but business. “It doesn’t matter which one?”  The spy asked.
“Bedenik will simply find a different way to kill the other.”  The Mutilaxian replied.  “One must die to prevent war, but both must die for justice.”
“I’m not in the business of delivering justice…”  Mr. Dross began.
“Clearly.”  Bedenik scoffed, having had a front row seat to the summary execution of the pirates who had captured him.
“You’ll have to make do with a politically expedient overlap of interests.”  The spy finished, just as clearly not bothered by the Snot’s sarcasm.
“A dead tyrant, is a dead tyrant.  Bedenik is not fussy about the minutiae.”  The Mutilaxian said evenly.  Mr. Dross nodded and turned to Agombi.
“Move a cot to the second platoon bathroom… and give him a datapad on redaction privileges or something to pass the time, then lock him in there.”  The boss ordered.
“Is Bedenik a prisoner?”  The Snot asked.
“When this is done, WENO will be on the short list of suspects.  There can be NOTHING to implicate us.  Not one single, solitary, hint.  There are already zero cover stories to explain your presence on board.  So what Bedenik is, is a walking security breach.  You stay out of sight, you stay quiet, or you disappear and two tyrants get to live and plan the deaths of billions.”  Mr. Dross said, his tone no more, nor less terse than he used with anyone else.  He was simply stating the facts.
“Bedenik will behave himself… but you owe Bedenik a corpse.”  The Mutilaxian said as Dragomir and Hector led him to the barracks.  Fuzi noticed how the eye spots tilted in anger as the Mutilaxian delivered his thinly veiled threat.  It had looked just like the paper silhouettes Fuzi had trained to shoot at for years

Tsaesci /
Tsaesci (pronounced Say-es-see[2] or Say-chee[3]) are a race of vampiric serpent folk and/or humans, hailing from the continent of Akavir.[4] They originated from the Wandering Ehlnofey, just as the Atmorans and Yokudans did.[5]

History
The First Tsaesci Invasion
For thousands of years, the Tsaesci lived, and presumably thrived, on Akavir, without disturbing or being disturbed by Tamriel. Late in the First Era, around 2703, the Tsaesci invaded Tamriel, at a time when the Cyrodilic Empire was still fairly small. This invasion is usually credited with forcing the Colovian Empire to officially join the Cyrodilic Empire, under then-Emperor King Reman I. The invaders managed to fight their way through northern Tamriel, into the Jerall Mountains near Bruma. Reman eventually defeated the Tsaesci, trapping them at Pale Pass and cutting off their supply lines until they died or fled back to Akavir.[6]
After their defeat, the Empire granted amnesty to many of the remaining Tsaesci men, including taking them on in key political and military roles. The Tsaesci presumably bred into the Imperial families, as Tsaesci surnames are now considered a thing of pride among Imperial nobility. There are rumored to be small clans of "true" Akaviri still on Tamriel, though the details are inconsistent. The military prowess of the Tsaesci was one of the key reasons the Empire was able to expand as successfully as it did.
A Serpent King
At the end of the First Era, in 1E 2920, a Tsaesci Potentate named Versidue-Shaie was advisor to Emperor Reman III as part of the emperor's attempt to conquer Morrowind. A theory states that the Potentate was secretly plotting to eliminate the royal family (another possible source of their depiction as "snake-men"), and eventually succeeded. The heirs of Reman III were all killed, in battle or by hired assassins, and eventually Reman himself died without a successor. The Potentate assumed command of the Empire, and ruled for over 300 years before being assassinated by the Morag Tong. His son then ruled for another 100 years, before he was also assassinated and the Elder Council put an Imperial back on the throne. At that point, the Tsaesci and Akavir in general disappeared from historical record, until the time of Uriel V and his Akaviri invasion.
Founder of the Fighters Guild
In 2E 320, a Tsaesci warrior, Dinieras-Ves "the Iron" presented to Potentate Versidue-Shaie, amidst the chaos of constant revolts and financial bankruptcy within the empire a solution to the plaguing issues. He suggested an order of mercantile warriors, named the Syffim, hired by the aristocracy which would serve in place of a standing army, as well as a percentage of the profits being invested back into the imperial treasury, effectively solving two of Versidue-Shaie's biggest issues. Following the Guilds Act, the Syffim was renamed to the Fighters Guild, an already popular name for the organisation and legitimised as an order. Versidue-Shaie's successor, Savirien-Chorak reformed the empire's army, breaking the reliance on the Fighters Guild for military capacities. Following the reforms, the Fighters Guild was reduced to more mercenary based work and Dinieras-Ves disappeared into obscurity.
Uriel and the Tsaesci
Around 3E 290, near the end of his reign, Emperor Uriel Septim V launched an invasion of Akavir.[7]Uriel had mostly succeeded in stabilizing his empire on Tamriel, including retaking lands recently lost to revolt, and was anxious to focus the might of the Empire outside of itself. Relying primarily on information retained from the First Era Potentates, and extensive reconnaissance of the areas between Akavir and Tamriel, the Emperor launched a military initiative to conquer the small island kingdoms in the Padomaic Ocean, to the east of Morrowind, most notably, Black Harbor, which served as a base for the Imperial navy.[7] When he finally reached Akavir itself (far to the east of Tamriel), he landed in the kingdom of Tsaesci, on the southeastern Akaviri coast.
According to the official record of the invasion, it was initially successful, but primarily due to a lack of Tsaesci resistance. Once the Tsaesci armies decided to put up a fight, the Imperial armies were routed in short order, with nearly the entire invasion force lost. Only a fraction of one naval fleet managed to return across the ocean to safety back home. The Emperor himself was killed before he was able to flee Akavir, and to date there have not been any subsequent attempts to invade the continent. In addition to the obvious military prowess of the Tsaesci, there are persistent rumors that the Tsaesci mages possess very potent abilities, including changing the weather patterns off the Akaviri coast, and large-scale disruption of magical communication lines.
Anatomy
The continent of Akavir, in general, is the least understood of all of Nirn's continents. Only three times in recorded history have inhabitants from the two continents mingled, all three being military invasions, two of which involved the Tsaesci. Thus, the Tsaesci are the only race on Akavir that the majority of Tamriel has even heard of. What little we do know about Akavir's other races mostly derives from accounts related to the Tsaesci Potentates during the late First and early Second Eras.
Even though the Tsaesci are the best known of Akavir's inhabitants, very little is known about them, and much of it is contradictory or cryptic. Within the current lore of Tamriel, there are two quite different depictions of the Tsaesci. Some evidence seems to indicate that they are humans, much like the Nords and Redguards from their respective continents. Other evidence, however, paints a much stranger picture, as vampiric snake-like creatures that feed on humans.[4] One source says that the serpentine beings are tall and beautiful with golden scales.[4]
Serpentine folk
Early depictions of the Tsaesci almost invariably describe them as having the upper body of a man but the lower body of a snake. The most direct evidence of these "snake folk" comes from Mysterious Akavir, which claims that the vampire snakes of Tsaesci ate all of the humans that once lived on Akavir.[4] The reputability of this book is frequently questioned, however, as few of its other claims have been independently verified.[citation needed]A much more reliable source is the series of 2920 books that describe the events that ushered in the Second Era. One of the key elements of this series is the plot by the Tsaesci Potentate, a close adviser to Emperor Reman III, to have the king and his heirs assassinated, and assume the throne in his place.[4] Though the books are written in a narrative, as opposed to a historical style, they are extensive, detailed, and the author is considered to be quite credible. These books explicitly describe the Tsaesci Potentate, and his son, in serpentine terms (as "eels", moving by "slithering", etc.) An obscure text known as "And We Ate It To Become It" purporting to be the Tsaesci's version of the creation myth, is strongly steeped in snake-like and reptile-like symbolism and phraseology.[UL 1]
In The Elder Scrolls Online, a reward for a quest in Stonefalls to bless the bones of those who died in the Second Akaviri Invasion has the following description: "These gauntlets were designed to choke the scaled throats of the Akaviri invaders." More evidence of this serpentine physiology comes from veterans of the Second Akaviri Invasion: Fedrasa Andrethi, who has become terrified of any reptile she sees since the war, especially lizards, and Denskar Earth-Turner, who refers to the Akaviri as "the Snakes."[8] It is also supported by Priestess Brela, who states the Akaviri were "Snake men."[9]
Men
Other written accounts of the Tsaesci seem to contradict the popular legend, however. A religious text on the Imperial creation myth, The Annotated Anuad, lists the Tsaesci alongside the Redguard and Nedes as one of the races of men. A detailed report of Uriel V's invasion of Akavir, which first attempted to conquer Tsaesci, describes them as mounted men, and makes no mention of snake-like qualities.
In addition, the Tsaesci had a very strong influence on Imperial culture dating from the early Second Era, including being the genesis for the Fighter's Guild and Imperial Blades. Despite this, there are no pictorial depictions, or any other physical evidence, that would indicate that the Tsaesci were anything other than human. The question has been further complicated by a recent re-discovery of a Tsaesci fortress, deep in the Pale Pass on the Cyrodiil - Skyrim border. The remains of the Tsaesci found inside, including the apparition of a Tsaesci officer, all appeared entirely human. The Tsaesci also interbred heavily with the aristocracy of the time. Modern-day nobles consider it a high honor to possess a Tsaesci surname and facial features.
During one of the invasions, the Akaviri built Sky Haven Temple as explained by Esbern during the events of Skyrim.[10] And inside the Temple lies Alduin's wall, built during their occupation of Skyrim. In the third panel, the Akaviri are kneeling before the Dragonborn and are depicted as humanoid figures which may mean they are human.[10]
Theories
There are a variety of theories that attempt to explain this contradiction. The most clear-cut are simply that one or the other of these conflicting images of the Tsaesci are simply wrong. Many scholars have attempted to reconcile the contradiction in a more practical manner. Some of the better-known theories are:
The Tsaesci are entirely human, as noted above.
The Tsaesci are entirely snakes, but have enslaved the humans on their continent (instead of eating them) and use the humans to make up the bulk of their armies. Goblins were also said to be the slaves of the Tsaesci.[4] As political savants, the Tsaesci were wise enough to limit their direct interaction with humans from other lands to only high-ranking nobles of both races. In this case, both the snake people and their human slaves would be considered Tsaesci, with the humans being able to blend in with Imperial society. Since the invading armies of the Tsaesci were more often referred to as "Akaviri" instead of "Tsaesci", it would seem the invasions mainly consisted of human Akaviri footsoldiers, with the Tsaesci only being present as high-ranking officers. This also puts a slightly different spin on the "amnesty" granted by Reman I -- it may have been more of an asylum for the human slaves against their Tsaesci masters.
The final theory is that there were two races of beings, one human and one snake-like. It is worth noting that the humans are never directly referred to as "Tsaesci" but usually as "Akavir". This supports the idea of two different races. During the two invasions the human Akavir still lived but sometime after the Empire's failed invasion, they were wiped out by the snake-men, the Tsaesci. Thus today there are no humans on Akavir.
Culture
Regardless of which of the views of the Tsaesci people are correct, there is a good bit of information available on their culture, dating from the time of their first invasion. They were known as powerful warriors, especially when mounted, and are very disciplined soldiers. Their battle prowess made them ideal as guardsmen, and by the Third Era, the descendants of Akaviri men were training nearly the entire Imperial Army, Imperial Guard, and made up the bulk of the Fighter's Guild and the Emperor's personal guard. The Emperors of Cyrodiil also traditionally kept a Tsaesci advisor, or Potentate, on hand.
The Tsaesci fought with daikatana blades, and wore dragonscale armor, their army gear became the source of most of the traditional raiment and banners of the Blades. They also apparently had tamed, and perhaps even rode, the Akaviri dragons in battle. The red dragon was eventually adopted as the main symbol of the Imperial Septim Dynasty. Of particular note, Reman I was the Emperor who instituted the tradition of lighting the dragonfires and was ruling Cyrodiil at the time of the Tsaesci invasion.
In addition to being powerful individual warriors, the Tsaesci are very potent as a unified military force. A relatively small invasion force managed to fight its way through all of Skyrim, and into the northern Jerall Mountains, before ultimately being stopped only by the combined armies of Cyrodiil, Colovia, and their allies. When Uriel V invaded Akavir, with as large an army as he dared pull out of Cyrodiil, he was soundly defeated by a Tsaesci army that, by all reports, was barely even seen before they struck. The military prowess of the Tsaesci so impressed Reman I that he granted amnesty to any Tsaesci left on Tamriel after their failed invasion and promoted a Tsaesci adviser to the high political office of Potentate.
They seem to make buildings of stone as evidenced by Cloud Ruler and Sky Haven Temple. They have blood seals that can only be triggered by a specific kind. The Tsaesci appear heavily based on both Imperial China and feudal Japan. The Chinese influence in the Tsaesci culture can be seen from their architectural style as well as their status as the most powerful kingdom in Akavir, which reflects pre-modern China's traditional status as the most powerful kingdom in East Asia. The Japanese influence can be seen from their weapons, the katanas, and dai-katana, which are traditional Japanese weapons, as well as their armor designs. They use hieroglyphic-like murals for story telling. In a book called Annals of the Dragonguard, a map with their written language can be seen.
Lifespan
Not much is known regarding the Tsaesci's lifespan, but the member of the race Versidue Shaie was known to have been alive from at least 2E 1–2E 324 until his assassination. From this it can be known that the Tsaesci can live for hundreds of years. Because the cause of death was assassination it is unknown how long the natural lifespan is.[11] According to some sources, the Tsaesci are in fact immortal.[12]
Notable Tsaesci
Versidue Shaie – Potentate (not to be confused with an Emperor) for three centuries after the death of the Reman Bloodline
Savirien Chorak – Versidue's son and potentate for around a century following his father's death
Dinieras-Ves – The founder of the Fighters Guild
Sidri-Ashak – An advisor and potentate to Brazollus Dor who managed the emperor's affairs
