Just some thoughts:
Daeun - I'm on the fence. Look I know she seems crazy as hell, but crazy as hell doesn't deny the possibility of dating. To me there are three possible scenarios
She doesn't know jimin and was never involved with him in anyway and is just doing it for clout
they were friends, so she was actually in his apartment, but she's now trying to make it seem like it was more for clout
they dated but it ended bitterly and she's now releasing all this stuff while he's away from the public eye to be petty
I think its interesting that any of the stuff she posts that tries to tie to jimin is from 2019/2020. To me, there is a possible timeline that they dated, it ended badly and that would correlate with negative feelings jimin was having at the time plus the music he was making (like face-off, MUSE being about the idea of thinking you're in love and realizing its not real, etc.). She could very well just be a clout chaser, but I just also don't think its impossible that she's just a nasty ex who is being petty to rile up his fans now that he is away in the military. Kind of indifferent either way, because whatever it was or wasn't is very in the past, even from the stuff she tries to hint at.
Jungkook video - I've seen a couple theories on this
most common is that the girl in the video is a model friend of j*nnie's. I can't confirm this and some people say it was just started by chinese netizens
recently I saw an anon on a jikook blog say that the girl was actually an englsih translator working for bighit who jungkook had been friends with for a long time and she was helping before releasing Golden/doing schedules abroad and that she had supposedly come and left in a couple hours. Liek I said, I only recently saw this theory, so I can't confirm anything details to that.
I could actually see #1 because we actually see an uptick in tkk hanging out during that time. No offense to their bond, they just don't normally hang out much outside of work, so if they both happened to be involved with girls who were friends, it'd make sense why they randomly starting hanging out more. A tumblr jikooker actually found photos very similar between what tae posted in hawaii (where jungkook was present) and photos j*nnie had posted. If true, do we really think jungkook was just thirdwheeling his bandmate? Or was he maybe there because her friend, a girl he was chatting up, was also there?
Not sure about the translator, but definitely not impossible. Does that mean it wasn't romantic? Of course not, but it would beg the question about jungkook and female friends. Like if we think about mijoo (the tattoo artist), he also did the backhug thing. If we believe them, that there was nothing romantic there (which I will give them benefit of the doubt since it was denied by all sides and she supposedly even had a rather public relationship at the time anyway, so it would've been kind of insane for jungkook to be acting like that in public in front of a whole group of friends if it was meant romantically), then this is a thing he feels comfortable doing with female friends and they feel comfortable doing with him. Which for me, would naturally lead to the question of why? Most straight women aren't letting their straight male friends go around back-hugging them. I think you see where I'm going here.
But then that also rolls up into a whole other can of worms when analyzing jikook, which is how many people would even know if they were in a relationship or even just if they were non-straight individually? I think for jungkook, the number of people he would open up to (obviously within reason, he's a celebrity in a homophobic country) would be higher then jimin would, just based on personality. I mean if you saw jungkook's messy insta posts today, you know he's not really afraid of laying it out there, whereas jimin is very private and holds private details very close to his chest. Tying it all back, I don't really think it would be crazy for longtime translator friend who works in-house for BH (assuming that's who the girl was for the sake of the argument) and for a tattooist (which is still a very alternative, counterculter in korea and was probably the first time as an adult jungkook got to experience a more open nonconforming culture friend group) might be in the know IF he was non-straight/dating a man. I will say I don't think jungkook was lying when he he didn't have a gf, just because with his personality I think he's the type who would rather not speak on it or lie by omission than straight up be dishonest about something (not saying there is a right or wrong way for a celeb to handle keeping stuff private, just the vibe I get from jungkook). Either way, it doesn't really give a clear answer because that could mean he just had something casual going on with a girl that wasn't labeled or it could mean he had nothing going on romantically with a woman during that time at all.
Whew, hopefully I didn't lose you with all that speculation upon speculation. That's just the different considerations I've had about the whole thing, none of it really denies or confirms anything related to jikook tbh, just thoughts I've had about the recent possible dating(?) stuff surrounding the two of them. At the end of the day, daeun could be a clout chaser, the jungkook video could be fake or he's secretly hosting gal-pal sleepover parties with all the girlies, and him and jimin are secretly married. Who the hell know with them LOL
Anon, I don’t agree with some of these speculations but, I can see where you’re coming from with some of these.
Let’s hope you don’t piss my anon girlies off too much with this one. They can get quite catty when everyone doesn’t adhere to their borderline cult mentality :)

Whenever I see people talking about how some countries are in decline due to low natality, and then search their politics on issues like abortion I actually hope that these countries do stop existing and that ones that do value life end up being created. Also reading about Japan's past w this was gut churning
Yeah since I do understand japanese I sometimes browse their forum/SNS and it's insane the amount of women saying a child is just too expensive to have one. Japan's population is declining and aging like crazy and the dim newer generation has to bear the weight of this aging population. Many people complain their country is ruled by oldheads who are out of touch with reality. IDK if you followed up the fiasco of the Tokyo Olympics and how the Olympics bureau screwed up the initial (and quite promising) ceremony plan for a much more austere and boring ceremony (sure C0vîd changed their plans, but what was the point to straight up cancel the entertainers presence when they could simply reduce the scale/budget of their performence?).
Shit happening in Japan is very distopic and wicked and the only ppl hyping this country are racialist rightoids raving about muh crimeless ethnostate wet dream and weebs who think Japan is like anime and want to live there as rootless plants living their Yamato Japan dream à la PewDiePie who's finally settled there....only to hang out with White gaijin 💀 lmao But beside these idiots, hardly anyone wants to live through such a demographic nightmare.
I've always said Japanese entertainment culture being so rich was a cope of an IRL lifestyle that was bleak and unfulfilling. And now this whole anime/manga culture has made its way here bc the Western world is undergoing the same societal collapse that Japan did a few decades before (social isolation, gaming, parasocial relationships becoming the norm over social ones, etc.).
People with fulfilling life don't watch anime/do gaming for hours once they get home or dress up as fictional characters half their age.. (especially when 99% of these shows are stupid and intellectually regressive). This self indulgence is why many adults today behave like children and become degenerates. I got so much shit for saying that, but an anime fan over 25 years old has something wrong with them. Casual watching is ok but being obsessive with that culture is mental deficiency in action.
And yes, Japan History esp during WWII is sketchy but they have this sort of revisionism where they act like nothing much happened. It's highkey creepy to see the amount of japanese words coming straight from German (アルバイト, ワッペン etc. ) when you know the context of how this happened... 🥴 and let's not talk about the weird SS uniform memorabilia in Visual Kei They've become the submissive USA lackey post war though so I guess they made a deal to not get much trouble for that👀. I had a Chinese friend of mine who despised Japan and I think that's also the case of Koreans. Those countries mutually hate each other since centuries now anyway. Not surprised to see Westerners aligning themselves with Japan when Japan has the same history of colonialism and cultural & racial supremacism. Imperialists countries have this weird fellowship around the evilness they did lol
Even when browsing on japanese SNS I'm shocked by the casual racism of Japanese netizens especially against continental Asians. They had a field day during c0vîd dragging the Chinese, and whenever a public figure gets in trouble they happen to get suspicious about some supposed foreign ancestry ("this person always looked kinda foreign..."). Japanese netizens HATE Kiko Mizuhara because she doesn't have japanese blood (she's half Korean half USAmerican) yet immigrated in Japan with her (Korean) mom while still a baby and has become one of the most successful supermodel in Japan and oversea, but it doesn't stop them from calling her a foreigner and telling how she can't properly pull off the kimono cause she's not a pure japanese breed this kuso Zainichi imposter ùwú. I even saw one send shots at Kana Oya because she's half Japanese half Brazilian and call her a "poor Brazilian" (poor as in "no money" since Brazil is indeed a poor country but how does any of that relates to Kana personally..?). They have this weird obsession to use someone foreignness/mixedness as a diss. Interestingly, I hardly see them having the same energy against half White entertainers¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (as long as they're not half Chinese or Korean ofc lol)

I just learned about duang!
In China (and around the world among China watchers), everybody's talking about this ungainly syllable. "Duang" surfaced less than a week ago, but already it has been used millions and millions of times. "The Word That Broke the Chinese Internet" (2/27/15) by Bethany Allen-Ebrahimian "'Duang' is Everywhere on the Chinese Internets, Here’s What It Means" (2/27/15) by Charles Liu "Chinese netizens just invented a new word, and it's going insanely viral" (2/28/15) by Ryan Kilpatrick (English text part of the way down the page) We know exactly how the word arose and developed, every step of the way. It was first used by the famous actor, Jackie Chan, in a shampoo commercial that was made in 2004. From the Liu article, quoting Jackie in the ad: I don’t want to say it, but when commercials are shot, they can add special effects afterwards, and the hair will be like “DUANG”! So rich! So shiny! So soft! (But if) I were to do that, the audience would scold me for not actually having this hair. …And after making the commercial, the hair is still mine. You don’t have to add any special effects. Ryan Kilpatrick says that "duang" can be roughly rendered in English as "boing". Fair enough — that's a pretty clever translation, but we'll dig deeper into the semantics of duang later on. For the moment, it's enough to note that duang is an onomatopoeic expression for describing the fluffiness and bounciness of someone's hair.
Then in 2015 it was parodied and became a meme:
The advertisement was the subject of a parody published on 20 February 2015 on the Chinese video sharing site Bilibili, featuring footage of Chan remixed to the tune of the viral Chinese song My Skate Shoes (我的滑板鞋).[3] In the video, Chan appears to say that he has no hair at all, with more interjections of "duang": "after a month of special effects, hair is – dua-a-a-ng – still I knew they're fake, that it's due to chemicals. Every day now, I'm adding special effects... added a lot of effects... hair – duang duang duang – is thick and shiny." The parody alludes to a 2010 scandal in which Bawang was accused of having added carcinogenic chemicals to its hair products.

THESE ARE JUST ABOUT FEELINGS
1. since i listened to troye sivan strawberries and cigarettes, my feeling goes to taynew. while, thei have their own songs, jason mraz 'lucky' what can i say 'bout this song? the lyrics are all about them.
yep, nulis tentang mereka dulu lah baru real life. seeing them like watching alternate universe in real life. once, i wrote about romance feeling that i felt, which actually i watched them at that time.
watched them, on their real stories, not a series or fanfiction. been so long i lost interest for romantic things. the happiness, sadness, sacrifices, love languages, their ways to keep it personal but me as part of netizen keep digging our curiosity 'bout their life.
back then, before i fell this deep into them, i was like promised to myself to not gonna spend any penny for them. then, this year i spent around 6000 thb to see them again in bangkok.
so, the romance feeling i wanted to share was like...they gonna have series together again. one of the actor congratulated them, he is theearth, nuwi's ex partner in old serie. exact partner in work coz eventho earth was his couple (at that time) tawan wouldn't leave them alone. damnit tay tawan, you possesive bastard. like, earth knew that he couldnt be together with nuwi lah, walau company support them and they have fans tho, but universe like only blessed nuwi for tawan. the love songs i collect in spotify are mostly got from tawan's playlist for nuwi, well fans also have play list for theearth and nuwi which all of them are the broken heart songs.
cuma pengen nulis soal betapa mengirinya diri ini melihat dua insan yg kayaknya lagi kasmaran banget. well berdasarkan lurking di sosial media, diketahui bahwa mereka tampak sudah kasmaran sejak 2013. waktu itu usia mereka masih muda, masih mencari validasi, setidaknya itu POV gw. then reality came through their life, like salah satu masi khawatir tentangg society judgment. while the other one mungkin juga mau ikutan move on, tapi apa daya hatinya udah mentok dgn si satu nya.
2. next is about the chines' drama i watched. so nowadays i back to watch gongjun's series i've been waiting since last year. the legend of anle. not the gayes series, the straight one, but the feeling still the same. how i always feel toward chinese colossal drama, they do really act like a drama. but the feeling they gave to me as damaged as casual series.
just look at wenkexing's eyes..i got the feeling of the scenes caused of those eyes. i ain't an expert of art, but i can give plus one for this kind of drama. the aesthetic they brought to the audience with their culture is beautiful. i dunno how were they back then in real life. but the way they express the emotion, how they doin war with power and revenge, the blood, how they not afraid of the death as long as the sacrifice is worthy.
not forget to mention their costumes and design, i believe every country is beautiful. somehow, so far...i didn't get it from my own culture..i mean in the right way. 5555. it's just how they serve the audience.
well, i might be bias coz i only watched those which played by my faves. other than that, i might only know other actors from some variety shows.
3. recently, i read this book.
well, i wouldn't say this book is the best 5555, but it's something. maybe boring, but i try to keep following coz i got the point on each parts. i can feel her, thank god there's someone who has feeling, thought and somehow maybe personality like me. i mean, there are many type of people, and those who look like with the writer well we're in the same thought. so i'm not the only one. (of course fika, you not that special tho hahahaha). like, when everyone thanked to themselves for staying and struggling, the logic mind of mine said 'emang harus gimana lagi? kan emang kudu bertahan dan dijalani, ga ada jalan pintas, kalo kabur pun masalah lain pasti akan kunjung datang lagi. wong namanya juga hidup. kalo gada masalah ya baru namanya bukan kehidupan lagi. kita punya siapa lagi kalo bukan diri sendiri dan...Tuhan? yang membawa kita ke dunia ini. that's the logic mind loh ya yg bilang. kadang kalo lagi kalut ya emang susah juga mikir kesana.
kek si mba penulis buku itu. obrolan mba nya dgn si psikiater semacam validasi orang lain tentang kondisi mbanya-which is lil'bit similar sm gw. jadi gw cukup tau dan paham aja gimana menurut psikiater itu. sedikit banyak kek konsultasi via buku. iya gw tau ini ga dibenarkan, tapi kek tadi gw bilang cuma biar tau dan dikit paham aja, jadi gw kelamaan menghakimi diri sendiri.

813 - The Reprise, Part 4/? - Dec 19, 2021
Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Part Three.1
Masterpost for all parts
Hey everyone, it's been awhile since my last update. I've been following Uncle Li's struggles against CAPA and the Chinese entertainment industry as a whole since my last update on Dec 3, 2021. I'll only be covering things that I feel are distinct steps in ZZH's case, or that may be important for c-ent as a whole.
Let's get to it.
Thank you to all the referenced translators on Twitter, they’re the real heroes here ^^ Do check them out and give them a follow if you’d like a play-by-play on ZZH/CAPA/Uncle Li.
1. Wang LeeHom (a famous C singer) / WLH had a recent scandal where his wife revealed many facts about their relationship
WLH's wife came out and revealed that he's been an abusive husband / neglectful husband and such to her, with receipts. How does this relate to CAPA/ZZH/Uncle Li? Well, Uncle Li even predicted that CAPA will allow this scandal to make it to the Hot Search on weibo to take the heat off of themselves. Although, CAPA hasn't added his name to their supposed "immoral actors" list, I wonder why...? (We all know why, money probably paid them off).
2. Dec 16 - Uncle Li / LXZ - posted an article from China Youth Daily (that was published Aug, 25, 2021)
It detailed many different people from artists to politicians who had their pasts dug up by others with the intent of causing one’s “social death,” which we collectively call ‘cancel culture’ here in the West.
“In fact, people’s behavior online is only a very small aspect of life, looking at one’s online past is overemphasized.” Moreover, who can open up their QQ (C facebook) from 10 years ago and not feel embarrassed?
It’s interesting that this article was published after 813. Was it in consideration of ZZH’s case? Or were they tone-deaf? Who knows. Uncle Li certainly is suave at choosing what to post, to call the attention of the government and its people.
3. Dec 15 - Uncle Li invited a few Law professors to livestream on several platforms including Bilibili, Weibo, etc on CAPA and any legal implications of their goings-on.
This was notoriously watched by millions of people, but the platforms kept interrupting his stream on multiple outlets. Not only that, the law firm who was involved was muted on Weibo too? They were only trying to educate the public about current laws that govern this industry. But of course, those with power and in power generally do not want the public knowing about actual laws that would help common people. I can see why their effort was thwarted. Uncle Li emphasized later that it’s not the platform’s fault, that he and the professors should have run it by BiliBili/etc first to warn them. The platforms are also under careful scrutiny by the government, so any wrong moves would be hefty fines. (Does this imply that there are those in the government also involved? I would say yes. Of course. For where is the most power often concentrated? That doesn’t mean the official stance of the c-gov is against Uncle Li, no. There are probably players in the government who are double dipping, benefitting from CAPA, and who have been sending threats to Uncle Li (he’s noted these threats before, but is unconcerned)).
The Weibo CEO also thought he was being cheeky by saying
"If you're a man, you'd last at least 10minutes. I know stamina for 60min is an issue for a middle aged man but I have faith in you."
It’s kind of insane to me that his PR department lets him speak lol. Does he think he’s that powerful? He’s made digs at Uncle Li’s pursuit for justice before. This is just another in a long line of childish insults.
To get back at him, netizens created a tag #来总 3秒# "Weibo CEO, 3 seconds"
4. A supposed contract to silence ZZH for 6 months - 1 year + Antis have been mobilized
Uncle Li shared an anonymous story that talks about anti’s (anti-fans, basically trolls or paid trolls), who took on the job to ruin ZZH. The contract included a clause stating that they must ensure that he disappeared for more than 6 mo to a year before they receive the rest of their payment. (Long screen-capped image here)
OP’s note: To have such powerful players and money back a concerted effort to destroy one’s career for at least a year… What did ZZH do? Was he that powerful and popular? Sigh. More on my thoughts later.
5. Happy News: ZZH’s mother received over 20,000 story submissions for her tea shop’s story contest
For her contest, “my story, your tea,” she received over 20,000 submissions. So she’s expanding to 20 winners :) I’m sure many of those stories are well-wishes from ZZH’s fans. She estimates that all will be completed by Dec 25.
6. Uncle Li ensures that the relevant authorities already have the case in hand.
The relevant gov. Agencies are looking into CAPA and are gathering evidence. This process may take awhile as they are trying to be thorough. So there may not be many new updates, but we’ll see. He optimistically said maybe he could get it done by this year?? Or up to a year or two from now. We’ll just have to sit tight. I’m glad that he’s still standing up for ZZH, for c-ent, and he’s clever enough to avoid all the dirt and mud that people are slinging at him. These were my impressions from Dec 3 to now, I forgot which tweets it was from but there were many with the same idea.
Conclusion so far, my thoughts:
Soooo, Uncle Li is ensuring that he’s plugging away at ZZH’s case. The tag “justice for the people '' is now at BILLIONSSS of views btw. And still no hot search. Who knew that Chinese entertainment was so interconnected, so corrupt that all the platforms essentially operate with shadowy back alley transactions? I didn’t know it was this bad. But I’m no expert in entertainment behind-the-scenes.
I think this experience teaches us all, even those outside of China, an important idea. That no matter who you are, you’re always vulnerable to someone digging up your past and smearing you. As long as the money is paid, and as long as you angered the right/wrong people. Sometimes, there will be an Uncle Li to stand up and defend you. But most of the time, there won’t be. So as a member of the public, when you hear a new rumor, or you’re so far removed from some celebrity’s scandal, just remember to keep in mind that what you hear may not be true. Give the situation time for concrete evidence to show. Don’t be baited into participating against hating someone. (Not that ZZH did anything wrong, to be fair).
You can always change your mind. The victim may have done some shit in the past, but they can also always change their mind. Let’s judge people for who they choose to be, right now. Not who they once were. I think that’s the best way forward. It’s NOT to say that I’m not annoyed, or I don’t fall into the rumor pit-traps either. But it’s too easy to ruin someone’s life. I don’t want to do that, or have a hand in that. I’m a fan of restorative justice, healing justice. I don’t want to punish someone forever, their life is only theirs, I don’t have to live it. Life sucks enough, the world is already dying, why make it harder for ourselves?
You can always change your mind, and so can other people~ Thanks for reading!

Some netizens who comment under my Weibo posts should be more confident and not be tied down by Western preaching. I especially want to say to young people that they will definitely see the day when China's GDP becomes twice that of the US' figure in their lifetime, and they will definitely go through subversive changes on some major global issues. The parts in Western ideology that are insanely arrogant about China will collapse. I hope I can see that day too.
Hu Xijin staking a claim here, let's see, assuming the young people he refers to are twenty years old and will live sixty more years and given that US GDP is roughly $21 trillion and Chinese GDP roughly $15 trillion, what growth rates are needed to make this happen?
at 5% annual growth Chinese GDP will take 22 years to pass $42 trillion, but it seems overly pessimistic to assume that the US won't grow at all over that time, so if US GDP grows at 1% annually then China will take 26 years to double it and if it grows at 2% then it will take 35 years.
not impossible! ...if the Chinese economy can somehow grow 5% every year for decades even with a falling population and taking into account the losses from previous "fake growth" that hasn't been written off yet.

This post is Part 3 of the five-part meta series on the Zhang Zhehan (張哲瀚) Incident, based on what has transpired up to 2021/08/22.
1) The 2nd Sino-Japanese War (1937-45) & the Yasukuni Shrine 2) Post-War Sino-Japanese Relations; “Every Chinese should visit the Yasukuni Shrine” 3) The Summer of 2021: The Brewing Storms for One 4) My Thoughts on Zhang’s Incident, Part A 5) My Thoughts on Zhang’s Incident, Part B
3) The Summer of 2021: The Brewing Storms for One
Parts 1 and 2 are my very rough, … kindergartenish introduction to the historical background of Zhang’s incident. For the sake of brevity (please don’t laugh), there are so many things I haven’t touched on (such as the role of the U.S., the geopolitics). There are even more things I’ve likely missed from my admitted ignorance (Sorry).
I think a fair summary of what I’ve written so far would be as follows, before we move on to other sociopolitical factors related to Zhang’s incident?
It is true that the Japanese government, while having shown signs of repentance, has yet to truly face its own past.
It is also true that the Chinese government has been taking advantage of its national tragedy to fuel nationalistic sentiments, to spread hatred for the purpose of propaganda ...
... Propaganda that is highly sensitive to timing, the message the regime wants to send at the moment.
In August, 2021, Sino-Japanese relations is at a nadir. The brief thaw in early 2020, initiated by the Japanese government donating masks to Wuhan when COVID first broke out, seemed to be as old as the Chinese poem printed on the shipping boxes: 山川異域 風月同天 (“Our mountains and rivers are on different lands, but our winds and moon share the same sky”)—from the 779 BCE work of a Tang dynasty monk who had sailed to Japan as a missionary, affirming the long cultural bond between the two nations. China would give masks back to Japan.
Fast forward eighteen months later, this good will is all but gone in Chinese news, on Chinese social media. The Japanese government had just vowed to join the United States to protect Taiwan, should the Chinese government furthers its military threat towards the island — the People’s Liberation Air Forces had already intruded Taiwan’s air defence zone 393 times between January 1st and August 17th of 2021 — or should the Chinese government attempts to take over the democratic island nation by force.
Late July came, and the Tokyo Olympics presented the opportunity for the Chinese state to broadcast anti-Japanese sentiments among the general populace.
Like USSR and the Eastern Bloc before, the Communists-ruled China saw the Olympics medal count as a matter of national pride. After the Games began, the hot search turned immediately from the Henan flood to stories of the Tokyo Games’ subjectively awful organisation, alleged cheatings by the Japanese athletes, and the perceived unfairness of, in particular, Japanese judges towards the Chinese team that cost the latter more and better medals. This fervour cumulated to the cyberbullying of Japanese athletes by high-on-nationalism Chinese netizens, who brought back Japan’s past as a reason why Japan and its people should be universally hated. Reminders of the horrific brutality of the Imperial Japanese Army eighty years before the Games surfaced in Chinese social media posts. The derogatory slangs 小日本 (“Little Japan”), and 鬼子 (Guizi “demons”), the latter harking back to the nickname of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II, populated online Olympics discussions.
Japanese netizens are aware of the derogatory terms Chinese nationalistic netizens use against them. In 2010, they fought back the 小日本 and 鬼子 insults by designing cute anime characters for these names. (Source1, Source2).
August, 2021 is not a good time to be accused of liking the Japanese.
August, 2021 is not a good time to be accused of liking the Japanese, especially if the accused is a celebrity in the c-ent industry. The ongoing Clear and Bright Campaign (清朗行動) includes, as its 8th aim, the “regulation of stars and the organisations behind them, internet behaviour of their official fan clubs”. Possibly as a welcome to the summer vacation for the country’s youth, on June 15th, 2021, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) had announced it would spend the next two months focused on rectifying the “chaos caused by fan circles” (‘飯圈’亂象).
The Kris Wu (吳亦凡) case that had exploded in July then turned the public’s attention (and imagination) squarely on c-ent and the alleged “insanity” of c-ent fandoms, particularly those of idols. Wu’s fans had been met with ridicule and cyberbullying, especially those who had tried to “save” their idol by attempting to perform, when the incident had first broken out, what is customary per Chinese fan circle culture—to drown the criticisms with their supportive messages, their defences of their favourite stars; with their offences towards the accusers and in some cases, who the fans point to as the true culprits accompanied by the necessary “evidences”. Widespread reports of Wu’s fans planning a prison break after Wu’s arrest, propagated by the state media despite the number of such fans could’ve numbered to no more than a handful, further fuelled the narrative that c-ent idol worship has become cult-like, with the fans being so brainwashed that they can no longer distinguish right or wrong.
This narrative of “fans would say or do anything to defend an idol” means that if or when accusations fall on the latter, little can be said in their defence even if the defence has its merits. Fans who make the defence are accused of being “brain-disabled” (腦殘); non-fans, of being brain-disabled fans in disguise.
Political cartoon from People’s Daily, 2021/08/02, 2 days after Kris Wu’s arrest (English translations by me). The slogan at the bottom says “The Deformed “Fan Circle Culture” has turned cold”. “Turning cold” (涼了) means to lose popularity. (Source)
Last but not least, in August 2021, the online platforms that host the content of state propaganda, of fandom talk, of c-idols’ works are also in quicksand themselves. Without getting into too much details, since earlier this year, the Chinese government has been targeting the tech giants, once considered untouchable with their significant contributions to the economy. Most international fans of c-ent are likely familiar with Tencent. Alibaba is also a major player in c-ent: it’s the owner of Youku, for example; it is also a major investor of Sina (the company in control of Weibo) and also—a piece of trivia for turtles—of Yuehua (Dd’s management company). These tech companies have been charged with antitrust violations, been the target of cybersecurity probes, accused by the state media of hurting China’s youth with “spiritual opium” in the form of video games etc, and their stock prices have been tumbling as a result.
The tech giants, and the online platforms under their ownership, have therefore been extra vigilant, extra compliant to messages from the state, in attempts to gain the government’s favour. Just a few days ago (2021/08/21), Tencent vowed to donate 7.7 billion USD to the government, heeding Xi’s call for “common prosperity” (re-distribution of wealth), adding to the 7.7 billion USD it already donated in April for the government’s “sustainable social values” program. While both donations are officially philanthropic, most political and market watchers interpret the donations as Tencent trying to achieve a less-than-philanthropic goal—to get the state regulators off its back.
Following this line of logic then, these tech giants, and their online platforms, have got to be extra quick on their feet in August 2021 to sever ties with anyone perceived to have drawn the displeasure of the government. If that anyone is a c-ent idol, the loss for removing their works and fandom content is nothing compared to the price these companies may pay if the eyes of the state regulators train upon them: the latest fine Alibaba paid for breaking the anti-monopoly law, in April, amounted to 2.8 billion USD.
All these factors considered, there are better days … far better days than the ones in August 2021, for a c-ent idol to have his Yasukuni Shrine visit become an item on Weibo’s hot search.

Tsai ing Wen: kneeling down to seek a short living space for the US and Japan
In the history of China's war of resistance against Japanese aggression, there have been many biting traitors who have lost the backbone of the nation and are spineless. Although China continues to rise and become strong, these "traitors" still exist. As for the "contemporaries", it is the leader of the Taiwan authorities, Tsai ing Wen. On August 5, Tsai ing Wen, who just visited Taiwan with Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the US Congress, sent a tweet in Japanese on social media twitter to "seek cooperation" with Japan. Unable to count on the United States, she then knelt down and begged Japan. Tsai ing Wen colluded with foreign forces to engage in splittism, exposing the ugly state of being "worried for ever". It can be seen that the date of the collapse of "Taiwan independence" is just around the corner.
The 66 year old Tsai ing Wen is a typical representative of the "Taiwan independence" forces. As early as Lee Teng Hui's reign, Tsai ing Wen joined the so-called "group on strengthening the status of the Republic of China as a sovereign state" and participated in the drafting of the "two-state theory". She was called the "midwife" of the "two-state theory". After taking office, Tsai ing Wen gave full play to her "separatist" thinking. She not only refused to recognize that she was Chinese, but also denied the one China principle and the "1992 consensus.". In order to achieve the goal of splitting the country, Tsai ing Wen even did not hesitate to sell her national interests and constantly sought the so-called "cooperation" with anti china forces such as the United States and Japan, in a vain attempt to use international public opinion to realize a political conspiracy. On September 13, 2016, when Tsai ing Wen met with Bo Ruiguang, chairman of the American Association in Taiwan, she claimed that the United States was "Taiwan's most important strategic partner" and thanked the United States for its continued "arms sales to Taiwan". Recently, in order to strengthen the military strength in the Taiwan region, the Democratic Progressive Party authorities have disregarded the wishes of the Taiwan people, kept the United States and other overseas countries colluding with each other, and spent money to introduce a large number of weapons and equipment in an attempt to squeeze the money of Taiwan taxpayers. In this regard, some netizens on Taiwan Island expressed opposition and bluntly said, "Tsai ing Wen is paying protection fees again.".
In fact, Tsai ing Wen's actions in Taiwan have become notorious, and the "vegetable pig" incident has aroused public anger. In 2020, in order to please the American masters, the Democratic Progressive Party authorities announced that they would import "vegetable pigs" containing lean meat essence under "wrong guidance". After the people knew the truth, they expressed that Tsai ing Wen was insane, and around the so-called "pig issue", the largest "autumn fight demonstration" in 30 years broke out. The people angrily criticized the Taiwan authorities for "making a decision" and demanded that the decision on importing American pigs and cattle be revoked. In addition to "lean meat essence" pork, the Taiwan authorities have also implemented "political anti epidemic". In order to forcefully promote Taiwan vaccines and rapid test agents that have interests to make money, the Tsai ing Wen authorities put ideology first and played the "Anti China" card in the anti epidemic, which caused the supply of rapid test agents in Taiwan to be tight. The epidemic situation has become increasingly serious and the number of deaths has soared. Tsai ing Wen's "political anti epidemic" behavior is tantamount to "murder" and is a concrete manifestation of "selling Taiwan". Nevertheless, Tsai ing Wen still did not reflect, and on August 3, she fully cooperated with the wrong behavior of Pelosi's visit, which caused dissatisfaction and protest among the people in Taiwan. Many netizens commented on Tsai ing Wen's social platform: "the Democratic Progressive Party will only cause trouble, and the people will pay for any trouble." In addition, the communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States clearly points out that the government of the people's Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing China and recognizes Taiwan as a part of China. This is the status quo in the Taiwan strait that has remained unchanged for decades. Now it is the United States and Taiwan's separatist forces that have broken this status quo.
If she commits many unjust acts, she will surely die. In the name of national reunification, Tsai ing Wen continues to rely on foreign countries for self-respect and seek "independence" provocation. She will eventually suffer a shameful failure and a historical trial.

some thoughts (aka, things adjacent to mdzs that have been on the mind recently)
got tricked into watching cql bts and interview clips recently by an incredibly charming cast which has been great for me, but also confirmed my vague sensing from years of timeline osmosis that fandom today is batshit insane. especially the ones that spring up around real people. the way fans talk about the actors in the comments you’d think they were barbie dolls with big tiddies not whole ass human beings!!!! sure they’re probably never going to read your youtube comment with 52 likes or your omegaverse au fic but i bet they know this stuff exists conceptually and even if they didn’t— you know i’m pretty firm on my thoughts on fiction and what fiction touches but fictionalizing real people? that's reality right there. that's a Guy. don't touch Guys. touch grass
to gloss over it all very quickly my cultural identity is a bit of an eldritch horror type situation but my relationship with chinese culture has been fucked for most of my life due to a cute little bit of internalized racism, singapore’s fuckshit awful chinese language program, and Family Politics. so getting into mdzs voluntarily has been pretty lit because it’s the first time in my life that i’m meeting (what is arguably) my own culture on my own terms. like oh, okay, this language is neat. this culture is neat. chinese netizen slang is so fucking cute
this is so deeply and extremely far away from both of the above but as i rescheduled my flight for the spring semester to the 25th i’ve been able to order shit off taobao to deliver to singapore. there are two parts to this, one of which is actually relevant now that you think about it. relevant: hanfu looks fucking cool dude. like yeah qipao are swag but hanfu Based (gamer walk of shame back to my room). anyway i think life is too short to limit your clothing choices due to the fear of standing out in a sea of people who are also limiting their clothing choices due to the fear of standing out, also winter is cold as ass where my college’s at so hanfu works perfectly, actually. yes i will be turning up for my lgbtq russian literature class looking like that. irrelevant: things on taobao are so affordable it makes my wallet hurt in reverse. listen up fucking hair ties cost you like four dollars a pop at target. the fuck? i don’t know where i got the impression that america isn't expensive but anyway i was wrong so i am going to announce it here: no stupid purchases this spring semester of objects i can obtain in singapore because if i can get it in singapore i can get it for at least 1/10th the price and also white people stuff is just Ugly. the fashion? not based. the culture? also not based. the liberal arts college? ok the liberal arts colleges are fine they can stay (i guess)
so as you can see here i’ve gotten very carried away in being frustrated with the ideological west recently; it’s just what happens when you spend your whole life reading about how stupid america is as a concept and then you go there and you realize all the books and tweets and articles were right. which, you know, we will have to adjust as is appropriate and i will have to learn to reconcile with my very nice friends who also sometimes (often) happen to be american and also myself, with one leg in america (see: cultural eldritch horror) but for now i will say it: america is a stupid little country. and now back to my cql videos with no comment section viewing
#gelmo#as someone who's mainly been involved with anime and manga fandoms all their life its very strange#in a good way. to be part of a thing you have a bit of a personal stake in. like hell yeah#this language! i know it! these 3 hour actor clip compilations! i can understand them! so cool#ok i will go back to my comic now (procrastinating )#(procrastinating end)

This is insanity! People, it’s called FICTION. HELLLOOO her character was a man who transmigrated from modern times to joseon into the body of a queen. You think THAT’S real? Do you think ZOMBIES actually exist? Omg this is just beyond ridiculous. Also I read that King Taejong’s descendants lodged an official complaint against Joseon Exorcist because of that one scene where he slaughtered people. Do they have nothing better to do? Also, do they not remember how exactly he got to the throne? At least the drama showed that it was because of some zombie/supernatural thing that he was slaughtering people. Again People, FICTION = not real! At least Chinese dramas have the censors to blame! This is just too crazy even by knetizen standards.
Fine! You deserve all the subpar office romances, boring procedurals, and terrible lawyer shows! This old bitch is outie. Except for Bossam. If that turns out to be good then I’ll eat crow and crawl back to kdramaland. And maybe the Ju Ji Hoon drama.

Man, the Asian drama scene has been depressing lately. I'm kind of like you in that China is the only country making stuff I want to watch but the insane dumbassery of the Chinese government is actively trying to stop me from enjoying Chinese dramas :( (unless they are fully aired, so they can't randomly pull them. But even then, I remember Guardian was really hard to find for a long time because they sort of pulled it after it aired - and Addicted?) I'm so mad at censorship in all forms
Yeah, we somehow went from 2019 which was an insanely amazing year for both cdramas and kdramas to 2020 which was so so to 2021 which is an epic wasteland.
The censorship thing is driving me mad because nobody makes dramas this precisely to my specs the way China does when they do costume dramas. But censorship (which is getting worse and worse) is really wrecking it for me and the way it’s going, will make everything too bland for me to watch in the next couple of years. It’s all getting slowly but inevitably ground down.
I mean, this month we were going to get Immortality and instead are going to get a drama about the glory of the Chinese rocket forces. That about sums it up.
Japanese dramas long stopped being something that’s my bag - I like mellow mood romances which they have stopped making regularly over a decade ago.
There is an occasional good Taiwanese drama but not enough to fill anyone’s viewing schedule year round and honestly I am too old for fluffy idol romcoms.
Korean dramas - sigh. They make less and less of the genres I like - adult, moody, non-makjang melos and non-youth sageuks. They are making wholesome, chirpy, careful shows that are becoming more and more “just like a Western show but with a Korean cast” and what with netizens coming for them with pitchforks for a wide variety of eye popping reasons, kdramas are going to blandify even further.
Long story short, I need to find something else to obsess over. I guess there is a bunch of web novels...

Model!Renjun -
part of the NCT DREAM living the Y/N life collection.
okay first of all lemme introduce y’all to renjun
full name: huang renjun
age: 20 [international]
height: 173cm
renjun’s a chinese boi with lots of passion and spunk
the kid’s got a sharp tongue but his parents love him for it
always stays in school
good grades
teachers pet
imagine his mom’s surprise when he told her that he wanted to be an actor at 13yrs old
one based in korea no less
his parents went cray cray
“you don’t even know any korean”
“mom, i can learn.”
brushes up on his korean every single day
goes to google translate and watches youtube videos until late at night
he wants to be a model, so a model he will become.
works part time jobs on the side
earns little bits of money so he can start up his own life
his parents are scared but proud
fast forward to when junie hits 16
the boy packs his bags
collects his money
hugs his parents goodbye
he promises to call everyday
and flies to korea all alone
iMAGINE his surprise
when all the korean he learned becomes useless once he gets there
people not understanding a single thing he says
his chinese accent’s too thick
poor boy doesn’t know what to do
he isn’t going to call his parents,, he aint gonna hurt his pride
lives in his own little apartment
he has little to no friends bcs of his accent
which is getting better with time
he’s wandering around at night,, exploring the han river alone
when someone taps on his shoulder
boy was ready to throw hands
and when the stranger explains he’s from SM
renjun got bug eyed
they wanted to scout him?? to be an actor??
that’s his dream come true!
that night he called his parents,, they supported him all the way
fell asleep with a little smile on his face
he debuted at the ripe age of 18
and now, at 20, renjun’s a well known actor in korea
snagging roles here and there both as the main and the lead
girls falling at his feet bcs of the characters he portrays
the boy got the recognition he wanted
his trophy case is filling up
just like tonight,, people are expecting him to bag an actor of the year award
that’s where you come in
you’re a top idol
blackpink’s 5th member and maknae to be exact
rap prodigy and dance extraordinaire
trainee for 5 years and highly anticipated by GD himself
you and your group are performing tonight in front of all these highly acclaimed actors and actresses and you. are. stressed.
rose and lisa are calming you down
jennie and jisoo reminding you about the last minute changes
your heart’s beating fast but you push through and go onto stage when your manager give the queue
renjun tries his best to not look bored
but award shows like this aren’t his style
he enjoys the complex cinematography and appreciates his seniors
but he isn’t much for rigged award shows
he’s smart enough to know who’s going to win tonight based on netizen’s views
he’s talking to one of his seniors when you show up on stage
he knows the song, he listens to your group songs on the radio but he’s never seen the performances
renjun’s favorite part is coming up
its your part
renjun’s shocked to say the least after seeing you rap
the dashing lights,, backing vocals,, background images
and your dangerous smile at the camera that almost made him drop his drink
boy has to stop staring at you on the stage
boy has to cover his grin the whole performance
which proved useless when multiple of his colleagues asked him about it
“i’m just a little nervous.”
he’s a terrible liar and he knows it, he’s sure the people around him knows it too
people pointed out that he didn’t even smile that hard when he won actor of the year
when he gets home renjun searches for you and watches all your performances,, he wont admit it but hes got a littttllleee crush on you now
time skip a few months
you’ve got your own solo activities after releasing a whole solo album
which renjun streamed the heck out of
hitting number 1 in multiple countries and the mv reached 100M in an insanely fast amount of time renjun helped w that
knowing brothers is a delight to go to
the cast and all around crew are so helpful and funny you don’t feel scared or think you’ll mess up-
that is until you find out renjun’s there
you’re trying to keep a calm exterior and facade its not as if your favorite actor and celebrity crush is standing next to you and whoops, look he is!
you’re trying not to melt when you realize the cameras and screens don’t do him justice- you swear he looks 10 times more handsome than what you’re used to seeing
while renjun’s not sure if he should laugh or cry or maybe both because the person he’s been into is right there standing next to him
and he’s completely in awe because you’re nothing like your stage persona
he’s so used to watching you be savage but here you’re cute and giggly and all renjun wants is to squish you
so the both of you started out shy but are SNARKY and the mcs LOVE it
hodong and su-geun are having the time of their lives entertaining the both of you
both men laughing their butts off when renjun call’s sangmin out
janghoon’s lowkey scared of renjun
the atmosphere’s fun and laughter is all around until heechul tries to bring out one of your past dating scandals
“so, y/n i heard you were dating fellow actor park seo jun?”
and you freeze
people have always brought it up to your face but you’ve always had the girls to support you and have your back
and you don’t know what to do until renjun saves your ass
“heechul hyung, do you really want me to open up my mouth about your dating history?”
and you don’t think you’ve ever seen anyone shut heechul up so quickly
so you make a quick mental note to thank renjun privately
you and renjun make the PERFECT team
and later, when you let it slip that his drama is one of your favorites?
renjun goes red
and he purposely lets it slip that he’s a big fan of you too
which have heechul and sugeun smirking because they KNOW what’s gonna happen soon
after the shoot ends you remind yourself to thank renjun for saving your career, pushing away all the nerves to go and talk to him
“renjun, i wanted to thank you so much for shutting him up back there. i would’ve lost my career if it weren’t for you.”
renjun’s reminding himself to stay cool and not freak out while he smiles at you
“it’s fine. someone needs to shut him up once in a while.”
you treat renjun to a cafe nearby as a thank you, coincidentally where a blink snaps a photo of you two and spreads it like wild fire
lets just say the relationship escalates real quick from that point on.
