Thank you all for voting! Some results are exactly what I expected but quite a few were confusing to me. Sometimes I wish I knew why people voted the way they did. Also, just for the record, I did randomize these. None of these pairings were planned.

Now for something important I'm going to say before things get too bad.

I've seen a few heated replies that are getting too close to aggressive for my taste. Guys, this is for fun. There are no real world consequences to the result of this poll bracket. If I believe someone is getting too aggressive or insulting towards other voters (or me), I will block. I don't want any true negativity here and if preventing some people from interacting keeps peace, I will do it. Here is how you read the list… If a couple has a (s) after it, that means it's directly stated in the game/show that they're a couple, and I feel funny breaking them up, even if I wasn't too keen on it. I am going to rate them individually with the (s) before the number so you can see how keen I am on the pairing. If a couple has a (1) after it, it's a first rate couple. Meaning, they are favorites of mine, and I tend not to read fics if they get split up, unless I was unaware (no one marked it), or someone recommended the story (the only exception is if the broken pairing(s) is/are reworked as 1 or more (3) pairings). A few notes about the Japanese dub of The Legend of Vox Machina

My interests and skills happen to overlap a little here, so rather than continue to spam my poor D&D group's Discord with even more rambling about the Japanese dub, I thought I'd drop it here on Tumblr for those who might be interested.

So yeah, LOVM is available dubbed in like 9 languages or something???? The CR cast mentioned on Twitter they thought the Japanese dub was really good and honestly I do too. I gotta be honest, I actually think the writing is snappier than the original English version in some spots haha. I'm gonna drop my more opinionated impressions that I gave to some friends in a separate post but here I'd just like to share a few facts and translations.

The main cast members for the Japanese dub are (names in Western order): Grog - Hayato Kaneko Keyleth - Misaki Ikeda Percy - Masanori Shimizu Pike - Yuumi Yabuuchi Scanlan - Chiharu Sawashiro Vax - Fumitake Ishiguro Vex - Ahiru Oohira (Wasn't able to find a Twitter for Yabuuchi-san, if anybody else does let me know)

Some side cast members I was able to find: Allura and others - Suzuka Kimura Kima, Cassandra, and others - Haruka Murata

Fun trivia: I didn't know any of these particular performers before hearing them in the LOVM dub, and I haven't deeply researched any of them, but while checking to see who had Twitters I noticed that Vax's actor Ishiguro-san identifies as X-gender and questioning (X-gender is a gender identity often seen in Japan which is roughly equivalent to nonbinary or genderqueer).

Everlasting Light

Single Effect: Anti-Bind [100%] & Regenerate HP [3%]

MLB Effect: Anti-Bind [100%] & Regenerate HP [4%]

TLDR: Anti-Bind makes “Everlasting Light” important to keep, though you won’t be using it much outside of that. There are few sources of Anti-Bind in the game, and this one is the only one that is an unlimited four-star. Even Whales (who have been unlucky or just not playing during the right times) might need to keep this one around.

Review: “Everlasting Light” is pretty terrible, but it’s Anti-Bind is what saves it. Anti-Bind will prevent the equipped character from being hit by Bind. Bind is a Status Ailment that will cause the afflicted target to be unable to take any actions (attacks or skills) for the number of turns shown, make the target take 80% more damage from its weak element, and prevent the target from recovering HP.

The Regenerate HP in this case is sort of just a bonus to go along with the Anti-Bind. Regenerate HP will cause the equipped character to regenerate a percentage of of their HP for the number of listed turns. The regen will occur at the end of the turn (note: the end of the enemy’s turn). Regenerate HP can stack.

So why is the Anti-Bind what is important here? Well, there are only two unlimited ways to get it from a memoria: “Everlasting Light” itself and “This Is the Fragrance of Love,” a two-star memoria.

You’ll see here that most sources of Anti-Bind come from limited events, two of them being either event rewards or from the event shop, and one of them being something you can actually roll for. Without them, “Everlasting Light” is going to be your best bet at a four-star memoria for Anti-Bind.

So, outside of the need for negating a Bind, “Everlasting Light” isn’t going to be helpful. Its’ Regenerate HP is low and there are other sources in the game where you can have a higher passive than that. Its passive ATK stats are fairly low as well-- if you’re completely new to the game then any passive memoria with its passive ATK stats will make do, but hopefully you’ll find a way to replace this one soon.

Because the Anti-Bind is 100% regardless of whether or not it is max awakened, you shouldn’t feel the need to max awaken this one if you’d rather have two sources of Anti-Bind instead.

Lastly-- check to see if any of your characters have passive Anti-Bind as a part of their Spirit Enhancement. This includes: Mito Aino, the Amane Sisters (Swimsuit ver.), Ashley Taylor, Konomi Haruna, Chiharu Hiroe, Iroha & Yachiyo (Final Battle ver.), Kuro, Seira Mihono, Umika Misaki, Nagisa Momoe (Valentines Day ver.), Maria Yuki, and Kanae Yukino.

My Transformation Rankings (PART 1)

Hello, it is time. I will now be ranking all magical girl transformations. Firstly, I will not be rating the ones featuring characters specifically made for the main story, or are a part of the original anime, or are an anime property like Monogatari. Of course they have the best transformations lol. A transformation here is defined as “going from one outfit/state-of-dress to another”. In addition, I will sort transformation videos into categories:

Category 1: There is no actual outfit transformation. They’re in their outfit at the beginning of the video, or don’t appear in two different states of dress. 

Category 2: There is no actual outfit transformation, BUT they summon their weapon. 

Category 3: There’s an actual outfit transformation! However they don’t summon their weapon (they already have it on them in most situations, Melissa does not have it at all)

Category 4: An actual outfit transformation, and they summon their weapon.

My favourites for each category: I will be grading these based on how they use what they are given. If they have weapons, how do their weapons add to the scene? What does it tell us about the magical girl? For instance, category 1, instead of transforming, what makes it interesting to watch, how do the girls appear? 

For Category 1: Riz Hawkwood – music is cool and reminds me of a witch burning at the stake, relevant to Tart’s story. I like how she emerges from the shadows and her animation is pretty stylized in terms of shading and shine. Suzune Amano – the fire is cool and has a similar style to Riz’s, she’s swinging her sword and moving. Ashley Taylor and Ayaka Mariko – both of them emerge from smoke. Ayaka’s is relevant to her theme of performance, and I like how she transitions into the last frame by turning the thing into her hammer. Fun and upbeat energy. Ashley and her bear both mimic each other and it’s ADORABLE. 

For Category 2:  Megumi Moka – It tells us a lot about her: she likes sweets, is clumsy but a good sport about it (considering her axe almost cut her foot off), and is honestly a sweet-heart *ba-dum-chiss*. The videos are supposed to be an introduction to their character and I’m already in love with this cutie pie. Kirika Kure - the animators embraced the crazy and I will forever love them for it. Kokoro Awane - fluid animation, moves with her weapon in a dynamic way. 

For Category 3: Melissa de Vignolles - This introduces us to her backstory as a maid, and how she was raised to act well-mannered. Everything is perfected by her little curtsey at the end, she’s just adorable! Rika Ayano - First we see her reflection, then it cuts to her. I enjoy how her compact mirror is used to transform her, similar to one of Sailor Moon’s or Pretty Cure’s transformation items. Kurumi Manaka - I appreciate that the fire from her frying pan acts as a transition into her outfit, a few frames dedicated to highlighting her chef’s hat. Toki Sunao - This is one of the more detailed transformations in this category, and I enjoy how the glass ball remains as a constant, slowly moving her arms up at the end. The music fits well, and it’s one of the better animations overall, personal top 3. 

For Category 4: Karin Misono - music gives you a sense of that halloween feel they’re definitely going for, and the transformation sequence is timed to it. It’s satisfying to watch the hat fall on her head and how she cheekily sticks out her tongue as the music dings. I love how they add on her outfit items as the camera zooms out farther. Emiri Kisaki - Very well timed to the music. Mizuki Rui - She starts off confused “What’s happening?, transitions to “Okay! I guess we’re doing this”, to “Yeah! We’re doing this!”. The emotion tells us a story, and I love it! As well as being timed to the music, the items appear as she twirls her weapon, wrapping the whole thing up in a neat bow and gives us a satisfactory conclusion. Sayuki Fumino - Her transformation reminds me of a mix between something I’d see in Mermaid Melodies and Sailor Moon with the whole singing and catching the twirling microphone in her hand as she glides through the air, magic wrapping around her whole body. It’s very well done, even if her end pose is a little suspect, she still looks adorable. Izumi Kanagi - the PRESENCE this one has. She is a fighting commander and you WILL follow her orders. Less emphasis is put on her face, as we see the cape flapping behind her as she braves the harsh wind. As she struggles to summon her eye glass, we get a sense that she cares less about herself and more so the cause she fights for and the burdens she carries. If this technically bends the rules, I DON’T CARE.
