Go Goa
Goa is the paradise of South Asia! It is not only a state, but also an emotion, hence we must visit at least once in our lives. It has stunning beaches, vibrant nightlife, colonial architecture, and an emotional appeal for everyone.
Now let's talk about my first time in Goa.
My husband and I were supposed to come here for our honeymoon back in 2012, but in reality, we arrived on our 11th wedding anniversary with our 6-year-old daughter Mahi and Shinzo , our furry companion . We set out from Hyderabad at 2:30 a.m. on March 4 ,with a lot of enthusiasm and a fresh mind. After crossing ORR, we took the Bachi-Raichur highway. My man took couple of brief naps as we started too early, but it paid off later as we were able to reach our pet-friendly resort, Castle House, at around 4.30 p.m on the same day. Yes, we didn't take any hault, and didn't waste much time except the nature's call . It was a pleasant, smooth journey throughout.
We didn't stop for breakfast or lunch Since we had enough comestibles—10 liters of water, cake, biscuits, juice, oranges, cucumber, wafers, chocolates, chips, nachos, badam laddoo, etc. Here, one might want to make sure to have enough food since, until Belagavi, you won't always be able to locate a decent location to eat on the highway.
Some even take haults in Belagavi which is simply 2.5hrs ( 108km) away from north Goa . At the Goa police checkpoint, authorities scrutinise all documents, including PUC and insurance; Therefore, make sure to carry all the paper work you require.
Our lodging, Castle House is a pool resort that welcomes pets and is located in the heart of the city, being at a walking distance from Calangute beach and Baga beach. We fell in love with Goa right away because of its vibrant churches and colourful houses. .
The next day, we left early for a boat ride in Calangute beach, where one can see playful dolphins and do scuba diving under the sun. We went to Baga beach to unwind with a highly recommended foot massage. After enjoying a complimentary and delicious breakfast, we set out to Aguada fort ,the Tibetan market, and Mama Louka cafe for dinner. At Mama Louka, which is close to Anjuna Beach and where Goa's nightlife can be experienced, you'll think you're in Greece.
The next morning, we set out for South Goa Palolem Beach following superfluous breakfast. The road is smooth and beautiful. Our drive to Pacific Sunset View Resort in Palolem took approximately 2.5 hours. We had a magnificent and captivating view from our cottage on the first floor, of the monkey island, hills, and the entire sea beach from the courtyard. Palolem is a rocky beach where we saw the little black crabs work incessantly on the rocks.
The charming cottage inspired me to record a reel where I danced to the song "Calm down". We relished Goan prawn masala and chicken xacuti, which are coconut based local dishes for lunch , followed by a beach walk on the sun kissed Palolem . Numerous tourists from diverse countries were basking in the sun and taking pleasure in the salty water. The overall clean and noise free beach is a bliss for the perfect relaxation .
The next morning we took the dolphin trip boat ride which covered Monkey island , Tortoise rock , Honeymoon beach and the Butterfly beach . Goa, undoubtedly, is incomplete without a Tequila shot . Later in the evening we headed to Agonda beach to witness the sunset and to have coconut water , followed by candle light dinner on the beach with butter roti , egg curry and butter chicken .
By this time, I was little disheartened as our trip was about to come to an end . Nevertheless , after breakfast with paneer paratha , we left for North Goa , to not miss the foot massage on the Baga beach and enjoy the festival of colours "Holi". We stopped at Benaulim Beach and the Basilica of Bom Jesus on the way. I decided to get a permanent tattoo of a fairy on my right arm, which will also serve as a souvenir of this trip . On the last evening in the vibrant city , we had the famous Vada Pav along with Harman Tea. Later in the evening , we walked towards the Tibetan market and bought dream catchers , fridge magnet and tortoise shape bag as a remembrance of this beautiful place . The Goan Cabo had to be packed in the backpack before leaving on the return trip.
The next morning, after a healthy breakfast with aloo paratha , we started towards Hyderabad at around 9.30am in the morning . We took Amboli Ghat road this time and thanks to apple map , the GPS directed us to a short cut and made us reach home around 10.30 pm at night . On the way, we could see few monkeys , cashew plants and the beautiful Amboli waterfalls .
A BIG Thanks to my life partner who made this trip a truly "Trip of the year " which was nothing less than an international Phuket trip .

Day 20 - Boxing Day
Today we had breakfast at the hotel which is included but pretty limited, eggs of some sort or something indian which toast looked like paratha and mashed potato 😬
Next we drove to Margao to the train station to book a ticket down to Agonda for tomorrow and then we went to Sunset beach which was about a 30 minute walk along the sea from our place.
We found some loungers at Alex’s Place, which was a complete coincidence, made ourselves comfortable and had a swim in the sea.
I wanted a sarong so accepted the offer of looking at one ladies wares only to be surrounded by women with sarongs, anklets, henna...
We ordered some veg biryani, roti and raita for lunch which was lovely. Mr snorey face put in an appearance for a bit once we were back on our beds and then we made our way to our hut.
Got ready and headed into Colva, first stop the police station to report my kindle missing and get a report to claim on the insurance then onto a rooftop bar to watch the Spurs Southampton game (my choice obviously!). Despite the football 😂 it was a really nice bar, we had some peanut masala as a snack which was lovely, roasted peanuts with tomato, cucumber, onion, coriander chilli and lemon, so simple but so tasty!
Then we went downstairs to the Garden for dinner - No.1 on tripadvisor (Oz’s choice obviously)!
Service was good place was nice and owner was chatty and friendly. The menu didn’t really cause any major excitement so we had butter chicken, prawn Xacuti palak paneer pilau rice and cheese naan... verdict, good but not amazing. Maybe we were expecting too much after the rave reviews?! But the brownie and ice cream was pretty good!!
Took a walk and organised a Tuk Tuk for the morning, not an easy job as apparently the taxis local to Betalbatim run them outta town, it’s like turf wars!
Returned home to some late night hardcore techno trance mixes from our in house DJ.
We took to our hut and drifted off to a meditation app, sleeping soundly... according to our fitbits!

Unique. Unusual. Unforgettable.
Satisfying my wanderlust and the innate intrepid nature of an adventurer, I gave in to my passion of exploration and the excitement of sampling new and delectable cuisines. Traveling around to capture the essence of life and lifestyles, I took off on a tour that was an unusual but perfectly chosen whim that was just up my alley. Knowing my adventurous nature, it was just like me to choose a journey that combined cuisines, cultures and curries!
With my wanderlust for the unique and the unforgettable, my trip blended the quintessence of travel and though a long one, it was filled to the brim with lasting experiences for the explorer.
With adventure flowing in my veins and anticipating the thrill of discovering exotic cuisines and the perfect holiday destinations, I decided on a trip to India. I was thrilled to travel through the vast and diverse terrain of an exotic South Asian country which evolved over 5 millennia from the famous Himalayan Mountains to the Indian Ocean coastline. Surrounded by an exciting and exotic history, India is the second-most populous and the seventh-largest country with over 1.2 billion people.
And then…it was nostalgia time with a great trip to the Taj Mahal, Agra which is about 3.5 hours from Delhi. Inspiring me with its love story, the Taj Mahal or the Crown of the Palace spoke volumes with its passion. I was over-awed by the Mughal architecture and its spectacular features which was illuminated with the fact that this gesture of love was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. My journey through time began as I traversed the charisma and culture with historic sites which ranged over the Red Fort, the Qutb Minar, Jama Masjid, Humayun’s tomb and other wondrous sights of the city. Delhi took me on a voyage of culinary discoveries where I went on a long yet delightful culinary journey with the popular street food, Mughlai and Frontier cuisines.
Experiencing the Aromas of India
I looked forward to visiting Mumbai where I grew up playing gully cricket, eating world famous street food, indulging in Golgappes, Misal Pav, Dahi Misal and Pav Bhaji. I went through a much-needed culinary travel, tasting the delectable side of life with traditional Shahi Mughal dishes, Biryani, and Butter Chicken and innumerable fabulous, spicy dishes in Mumbai.
Bringing back memories of adolescent days, I escaped in to the landscape of ‘Mumbaiah’ cuisine and re-experienced delicious culinary delights. Taste bud tickling spicy Chaat snacks such as Vada Pav, Bhelpuri, Dahipuri, Panipuri, Sevpuri, Ragda Pattis, Kebabs, popular Mumbai Sandwiches including other local favorites were a source of authentic gastronomic pleasures which recalled memorable times. The Mumbai culinary scenario has constantly filled my soul with scrumptious and robust fare as I took off on a repertoire of Konkani coastal meals, South Indian meals and snacks, seafood, Bori Mohalla cuisine, Mangalore meals, North Indian dishes, Parsi food trails and other regional bests. My all-time favorite desserts were Kulfi, ice golas and incredible mouth-watering sweet concoctions.
After buying a few mementos for my friends back in the USA at the Bombay Bazaar, I strolled down the Mumbai Marine Drive and watched the sunset throwing a beautiful aura of light on the great architecture of the Taj Palace. My enchanting and tasteful Mumbai diaries tripped on a delicious vegetarian sojourn at the famous Ram Naik Sadya House in Matunga which served South Indian Sadya or meals, flavored with coconut and authentic South Indian masalas, this great must-taste meal took my palate on a diverse travel.
With ‘Khau’ meaning good dish and ‘Galli’ or small lane, the Mumbai street food goes on a delectable journey with any number of food stalls displaying visual treats with multiple vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices. The Khau Galli near Churchgate served up the sweet life with sandwiches, Pav Bhaji, strawberry juice, sugar cane juice, milkshakes and other great options for the sugar addicts. And what can I say about the humble yet rich in flavors Bade Miya behind the Taj Hotel which cooked up a storm with kebab and curry dishes which was a treat for the weary adventurer? This was total bliss which added a replete sense of fulfillment.
Relaxed and rejuvenated with a laid-back mode, I touched down in Goa as she beckoned with her lovely beaches, Goan concerts, incredible cuisine, sun, sea and sand. Combined with a bohemian lifestyle and a carefree frame of mind, I set off to enjoy the culture, the curries and the cuisines of Goa. Indulging in fish curry and rice along with other local seafood fare, I ventured into Portuguese flavors which involved Pork Vindaloo, Sorpotel, Calfreal and Beef Xacuti that took the palate to a pinnacle of delicious heights. Robust and satisfying, Britos in Calangute on the beach presented a charming environment with great seafood. While the Ritz punctuated my culinary voyage with prawns in Goan masala, crab cakes, pork vindaloo, chili pork and other supreme dishes, my flavorful journey was quenched with the local brews comprising of cashew and coconut feni. Peppers, Margoa sprinkled my encounters of the tasteful kind with traditional Goan seafood classics and a few global dishes while I let my taste buds go on a sweet journey with Bebinca and other local treats.
My diary of travel notes was burgeoning by the time I reached home which created a bubble of expectation and delight as I planned yet another exploration into the myriad colored world of travel.

The cafe opens for the day at 8:30 a.m. and shuts for the night at 6:00 p.m - early by Goan standards. The menu card is interestingly designed...like a tabloid that you can browse through before or as you munch your way through the very fresh, very yummy food served there. Try out the croissants, sour dough bread, pumpernickel bread, Hungarian goulash and smoked kingfish. Word is that they're the best you'll get in Goa. If you're there around lunch, try the Fried Leg of Chicken or Beef Steak with Mashed Potatoes. They also serve an assortment of German, Swiss, Continental and Mediterranean cuisines. They also serve a great rendition of the Goan specialities: Pork Vindaloo and Pork Sorpotel. The bar is well stocked, the bartender creative, and for those who get drowsy after a hearty meal and drink, they have bed and lodging too!!

Curlies beach shack is located at Anjuna Beach. It's a chilled out joint with a unique culture and loyal customer base. Curly's is pretty big on the party scene. The food at Curly's is memorable to say the least. Even their non-alcoholic beverages are brilliant. The restaurant serves you everything from oven fired pizzas to pasta, to seafood, to the best of Indian, Chinese and Continental dishes. chicken xacuti recipe:
Chicken Xacuti / Shaguti are the version cooked in Hindu Brahmin houses in Goa. This dish is likewise known as Chicken Xacuti and has its roots prompted by way of Goan cuisine.
This recipe is from a completely near friend's Mum who hails from Siolim, Goa. My favorite Chicken recipes are Chicken Shaguti, Chicken Cafreal and Kori Rotti. I enjoyed this style of chicken cooked in highly spiced gravy.
Chicken Xacuti Recipe Ingredients:
· Chicken (Dark Boneless Meat) - 3 lbs.
· Goan Garam Masala - 1 tbsp
· Indian Bay Leaf - 2
· Coconut milk - 1/three cup
· Turmeric powder - three tbsp
Chicken Xacuti Recipe Method:
Chicken in Marinade –
1. Clean and trim the bird of any extra fat.
2. Wash and pat dry.
3. Cut each piece to two" chunks and add to a mixing bowl.
4. Crush ginger and green chillies more or less and add to the chicken.
5. Do no longer make a mushy paste simply weigh down them more or less.
