I would happily make a quilt for my chickens, especially if they were indoor birds.

The starry purple quilt is finally finished!

He arrived over 10 years ago....

... a very small Pyncheon rooster.

We named him Quilt, and he was perfect. He went for walks, took care of his hens (most popular rooster on the place!) and kept us all entertained with his opinionated observations.

He ruled the hen yard fairly and with a light touch, and was well behaved on his many sojourns into the house.

(Quilt joining us in a game of Wingspan. In his estimation the eggs were very puny. His girls laid much nicer ones.)

Yesterday he left us, quietly and without fanfare. He was old and it was his time. His favourite hen was at his side. He will be sorely missed.

We have a limited time on this Earth, and there are only so many quilts we can make, and yet my mother *chose* to buy four metres of this fabric. She pulled it out of a box years later while clearing out, and asked if I could use it. After we finished laughing, I realised that @ephraelinhats and @redhillian would be my partners in crime.

We have taken a metre each, with the noble quest of trying to make something, anything, from this. I have a plan....

A quick share on what's been going on here~

Unfortunatly not much, still hot and I haven't gotten my seeds started due to weather watching.

This is all from 2 sweet potato slips. I plan to harvest some for supper tonight :)

And from the side, the trellis is from an archway we had up some time ago for the front. I'm hoping to make a little shaded space for the ducks, or at the least extend potential harvest vines (the ducks enjoy the leaves right off the vine)

I've also had some time to be able to do some mending this week.

This quilt needs some patching. Since it was among the first quilts i made, I decided I want to do something a bit different than how I've patched others.

I'm taking it apart. Figure I'll keep what fabric is salvageable in pattern and replace what isn't on the front panel. pin it and stitch it back together. Probably replace the border entirely as I noticed the fabrics worn pretty thin there. The busted fabric I'm gonna put in with my small scrap pile to use as a filling for a foot cushion I'm making for personal use.

I've gotten round to finally processing the carrot seed heads from last grow. I'm currently doing a germination test to see if it was worth it.

Final pic of the day is a chicken pic :) they very much enjoy when I do a bit of weed whacking.

foolishly blundering my way through this quilting process but BEHOLD MY SQUARES

I woke up in a cold sweat yesterday morning, scared I'd not have enough patches for the bad idea/patchwork/leftovers dress.

Then I counted my squares, realized my extreme reusing of cutoffs had me in a nice and cozy spot and descended into a haze of mindless sewing until I got here.

I put new cones on my overlocker when I started this project. The only other one I did was 4-yo nephew's knight coat. I may have trust issues when it comes to patchwork fraying with wear, and foundation piecing is not gonna lay them to rest.

I just finished panel 10 out of 14.

I can't feel my right wrist or upper spine.

This thing still needs a hem finish and it might have to be binding or a hem facing, because none of it will take kindly to turning over.

I wanted to have this done by Tuesday evening.

I desperately need a pep talk that I can finish this.

More table runners. These ones are fun, rainbow chicken feet/wire, and dinosaur fossils.

It’s easy to fit two of these onto the long arm at the same time as long as they’re both getting the same backing. I picked a black Northcott Cotton Canvas for these since they’re both darker.

I giggle every time I think about the chicken print one, all fenced in with wire 😂
