Hi, it’s been a long time since I’ve been in the Avatar fandom and I was trying to get my friend into them! I remembered you being one of my fav blogs since you wrote Chiaroscuro. Long story short— has there ever been some kind of lore masterposts for Avatar? I can find bajillions of Ghost lore posts but I’m having trouble finding anything for Avatar or at the very least for the Avatar Country era. Thank you for basically being a pillar in the fandom for so many years!
Hi, welcome back to Avatar Country!
First of all ... a pillar in the fandom?!?!? I am SHOOK with the honor, thank YOU for those kind words!!! I am but a humble servant to our king and his royal circle, I live to serve. (And by serve, I mean reblog everything Avatar-related so that my obsession can be everyone's problem...)
As for your question ... I'm thinking the reason you aren't finding anything is because there isn't anything out there. Unlike Ghost, Avatar isn't really a lore-based or lore-focused band. Avatar Country was the closest they've ever come to having official lore, and really that was only for that specific era. Even Feathers and Flesh wasn't lore about the band -- it was a fable brought to life with music. At this point, they bring out the royal costuming when they perform AC songs at shows, but it's usually only for one (sometimes two) songs.
The only thing I can come up with to offer as "lore" would be Legend of Avatar Country: A Metal Odyssey, the movie (featuring the three videos that they also put out for the album's singles) that the boys made with the help of a Kickstarter campaign, and it's so much fun! (There are a few elements in the videos that inspired @girlwiththepapatattoo and I as we developed our vision of the Chiaroscuro version of Avatar Country, but since the movie came out after most of our beast was written, it almost felt like WE inspired THEM.) It's available on Youtube and I'm pretty sure it's also available on avatarcountry.com. Speaking of avatarcountry.com, that's a great place to check out the boys' behind-the-scenes stuff, the play-throughs with Tim and Kungen, and little clips of them being the ridiculous dorks I love and adore. It's not lore in the traditional sense, but the history of the band and how Avatar has evolved over the years is just as fantastically rich as anything they could have invented. If you aren't already a part of it, you can join in at any time (I THINK you can set up a free account by filling out a "tourist visa" that lets you check out everything on the site, but don't quote me on that. Otherwise, becoming a citizen costs about $30.)
OH, almost forgot! There is The Making of Avatar Country, the book that they wrote/published through the Kickstarter campaign, available to purchase on avatarcountry.com. It. Is. FABULOUS. The photography alone makes it worth the cost. Again, not lore in the traditional sense, but seeing how Avatar Country was brought to life is *chef's kiss*. 10000/10 highly recommend.
And (shameless plug alert), you know, you can always re-read the beast in all its many parts ... lore abounds there. =)

Hey, look at that, I babbled once again and wrote a small novel instead of a normal-size response. *ahem* Hope this helped, and thanks so much for the ask! Always here for more asks if you have them ... as you can see, I love talking about my favorite Swedes!
#i love getting asks!!!!#i also don't know how to act normal about them#but YAY asks!#also ... a pillar of the fandom#that just made me blush and cry#to think that anyone considers me as such... just wow#i'm humbled and honored#avatar band#avatar country#johannes eckerström#henrik sandelin#jonas kungen jarlsby#john alfredsson#tim ohrström#beautiful swedish men#chiaroscuro#chiaroscuro: aura#chiaroscuro: umbra#chiaroscuro: aurora#chiaroscuro: lustre#chiaroscuro: illuminare#our fanfic#our writing#oh how i miss those glorious thursdays#when we would post and scream and cry over everyone reading our wild beast and loving it#good times#thursdays were best days

Dance Among Flames with Kim Beyer's "Let Loose" In the fever dream fantasia of synth-wave rebellion, Kim Beyer's "Let Loose" crackles like neon lightning against a velvet night. Here she stands: pop maestra wielding kaleidoscopic echoes of an era both retro and reborn, her voice not merely singing but igniting soul fires in echo chambers crammed with '80s bravado. https://open.spotify.com/track/25J1qDDN4xCd96EVJGpMPX The track is a threnody to liberation—a frenetic carpe-diem carousel spinning listeners through sonic wormholes whence AJB's percussion pulses like a heart racing wild from cage's breach. Kyle Vice’s guitar rips at seams of silent compliance, each riff a clarion call slicing through silk screens of conformity. Kim—accidental TikTok muse turned phoenix—wears her skin anew; melodies entwine with shadowy verses as if joy frolics hand-in-hand with melancholy under clandestine moonbeams. Her anthemic resonance trains lenses on existence’s chiaroscuro, balladry seasoned by life's abundant ironies. [caption id="attachment_55195" align="alignnone" width="1152"] Credit: Sam Fahmi / Studio 79[/caption] As synths swell into delirious crescendos and choruses detonate like confetti cannons bedecking midnight skies with stars' shrapnel, "Let Loose" ridicules restraint. It stamps defiant footprints across soundscapes familiar yet uncharted—an auroral appeal for the daring that drowns out society’s monochrome whisperings. What bellows forth is effervescent uproar—an insurrection in verse as contagious as fervor’s first blush—a jubilant insurgency painted in splashes vibrant as Aurora herself dancing shameless upon stratospheres untouched by mortal frettings. Listen! For within this symphony lies conflagration set to syllables; it begs you dance among its flames until nothing remains save the purest essence laid bare, inviolate and exuberantly free. Follow Kim Beyer on Website, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.

Heat Waves
Artist: Dawn Howard
Media: Acrylic Paint on Canvas
Date: 2023
When I discovered that our Final Exam was going to be creating art, I honestly was incredibly nervous about it. At the beginning of this course, I thought it was going to be more about art history than the actual process of creating art. I am one who thoroughly enjoys learning about art and its different time periods. Yet I have always struggled when it comes to creating artwork of my own and being satisfied with it. I am more creative musically than I am with a paint brush in hand. Nonetheless, I decided that if I have learned anything from this course it is that we form art and art forms us. Creativity, as the text taught us, “is the ability to bring forth something new that has value.” I do not need to be the next Picasso to create a piece that provides feeling and emotion. The possibilities for creativity are endless when an open mind is kept throughout the process. For my medium of art, I decided to use acrylic paint on a white canvas. When beginning my creating journey I decided I was going to paint a woman's body outline and provide a way of emotion. But before I could begin with the paint right away, I chose to use pencil and sketch out her body and its features. Once I felt like my drawing was complete, I began adding acrylic paint to the canvas. I chose this form of media due to its popularity with many artists today and its history of being an invention of the mid-twentieth century. My choice of “lamp black” acrylic allowed for the use of chiaroscuro in the background of the artwork. It created a shadow effect that gave the body emphasis which allows for the center of the piece to stand out. The slight use of black acrylic on the undergarments allowed definition on the body. My next acrylic color choice was “ultramarine blue” for the outermost of the body. I then decided to mix the colors “viridian” and “yellow ochre” to create the perfect color of green for the next layer of the body. Afterwards, I mixed the “lemon yellow” with a tiny bit of white acrylic to create the right color of yellow to add brightness to that next layer of the body. Then the next layer was painted with “metallic orange,” and I finished the final layer of the white canvas with “crimson red.” As each layer would dry, I was going back to each color and adding another layer of paint till I felt like it was complete. Subsequently, I had created a piece that resembled thermal imaging which is something that makes pictures from heat instead of light. My heart in this piece was to allow the art to form me as I was creating, and I honestly believe it did just that. Through the colors I had chosen I wanted the viewer to feel the radiance coming off from the body. My wish was for it to appear as an aurora for the viewer to read and discover for themselves. How this painting makes the viewer feel is completely up to them. And I believe that to be my favorite thing about art.

A Special Chiaroscuro Announcement!
Today is chapter 32 of Aurora. After today's chapter... THERE'S ONLY 3 CHAPTERS LEFT OF THE MAIN STORY!!! That's right, we're almost at the end folks! Almost 3 years we've been posting this crazy story, and it's almost done. We do have a bunch of one-shots we have to write (seriously, it's a list) that have to do with our universe, but the main story is about to be over. @ghuletteintraining and I want to thank everyone who's stuck with us this far, all the readers, all the wonderful people who made fanart. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for coming on this insane ride with us. As a special surprise, we've decided to celebrate the occasion. We're announcing today... THE CHIAROSCURO GIVEAWAY! To celebrate the story's closure, we're giving away a Papa Emeritus IV Funko Pop!
The rules are as follows:
1. Like and reblog this post! Likes and reblogs both count, but only one (1) reblog per day is allowed. Please don't spam your followers lol
2. Must be 18 years or older
3. Must be comfortable giving your mailing address to @ghuletteintraining
4. Unfortunately, due to the Very Bad No Good Year and overseas postage being kind of ridiculously expensive, we have to limit this to the US only. We're so sorry!
The last chapter will be posted April 8th, so we'll end the giveaway on April 7th at noon (12 pm EST). We'll use a random number generator to choose the winner, and the winner will be announced on the 8th!
Again, thanks to all our readers! Good luck, and enjoy tonight's chapter!

Hello, fellow ShikaSaku lovers! Guess what time of the year it is?
Yes, it’s ShikaSaku Week 2020! The main event of the year, during the worst year of the millennium, of course. We don’t do things by half, here at ShikaSakuWeek Ltd. For this edition, we have an interesting mix of prompts for you, and we hope you’ll be inspired by them and give us even more content than last time! Fun fact: ShikaSaku Hanami 2020 was the most prolific week since the event was created, and we know you can do even better this time! Let’s get started ♥
— The Rules
• you can post anywhere! Tumblr, AO3, FF.net, DA, Twitter, Pillowfort, go wild! • please send us a link to the fanwork so we can add it to the masterpost • tag it with #shikasakuweek or @shikasaku-week to help us find it • the only requirement is for ShikaSaku to be the main pairing in your fanwork. It can be a fic, a fanart, a fanvid, a gifset, an edit, it’s up to you!
When: Sept 30th to Oct 7th. We would have loved for it to match with Shikamaru’s birthday like we usually do, but we want to let people know a bit in advance, so herewe are.
Please, no character bashing. We’re here to create content for our ship, not ruin other people’s day.
This time, you get two prompts, like for Hanami, with a twist! One prompt is our traditional group of obscure words and obtuse metaphors. And the second prompt is a song from which we picked two lyrics and you have to find a way to work one of them into your story (bonus point if you use the quote word for word, but it’s not mandatory, you can just be inspired by the lyrics).
You get to choose if you’d rather use our pretentious word prompts, or the song lyrics (and if you’re not inspired by the lyrics we picked, you can still use the song prompt and pick your own lyrics in it to integrate in your story! We just encourage you to challenge yourself with the limitation of the lyrics we picked).
We tried our best to pick as many different genres of songs as possible, so everyone can find something they like. So there’s pop, rap, folk/trad, indie, hard rock, glam metal, you get the idea. Have fun!
— The Prompts Light & Shadow Theme
DAY ONE streetlights at dusk Insomnia by IAMX Lyrics #1 “ Oh, my god, you're beautiful Why do you stay with this neurotic fool?” Lyrics #2 “ I don't know what is happening to me Or if I'll die, 'cause I just never sleep”
DAY TWO like a moth (to flame) Moby Dick by Jakey Lyrics #1 “I'm not the one that you wanted But damn it I think I could be what you need” Lyrics #2 “I know you better than you know yourself Well, my self said "you can go straight to hell"
DAY THREE chiaroscuro/clair-obscur The Seed by Aurora Lyrics #1: “Through dirt and shadow I grow I’m reaching light through the struggle” Lyrics #2: “Suffocate me So my tears can be rain”
DAY FOUR eclipse (looking for the moon) Bushes and Briars by McDonnel Trio Lyrics #1: “I overheard a voice, it rang so loud and clear Long time have been waiting for the coming of my dear” Lyrics #2: “Sometimes I am weary and troubled in my mind But if I should go to love, my love he will say, "Nay." If I show to him my madness, he'll never love me again”
DAY FIVE Well then, kiss me,—since my mother left her blessing on my brow, There has been a something wanting in my nature until now” “Though my soul may set in darkness, i will rise in perfect light; i have loved the stars too truly to be fearful of the night Only The Good Die Young by Kissin’ Dynamite Lyrics #1: “I'll never sleep, how long the game will go? I have to burn bright like a star” Lyrics #2: “Only the good die young Living as a rebel, dying as a rebel”
DAY SIX (like a crystal) he diffracts the light
The Chain by Fleetwood Mac Lyrics #1: “Listen to the wind blow, watch the sun rise Run in the shadows, damn your love, damn your lies” Lyrics #2: “Break the silence Damn the dark, damn the light And if you don't love me now You will never love me again”
DAY SEVEN the night is ours (i want, i want) Her Sweet Kiss by Sonya Belousova & Giona Ostinelli Lyrics #1: “I'm weak my love, and I am wanting If this is the path I must trudge I'll welcome my sentence, give to you my penance Garroter, jury, and judge” Lyrics #2: “A storm raging on the horizon Of longing and heartache and lust She's always bad news, it's always lose, lose”
DAY EIGHT (bonus day) free day or remix challenge
If you’re interested in the remix challenge and didn’t participate in it last edition, here’s a quick explanation: Basically, you browse through the masterposts of the previous years and pick a story or art you like a lot. Then you write/draw an interpretation of that fanwork! Summarize in your head what the core idea of the fanwork you picked is (for exemple: Shikamaru and Sakura are captured. The story is their escape.) and use that to make your own, based on that same premise. It’s basically like making a movie remake, or writing fanfiction based on the canon of something you like (we have a feeling you know how to do that, don’t you?). So there you go, that’s the remix challenge! We hope you’ll enjoy yourselves and that you’ll rediscover works from previous years!
Once again, thank you for participating in ShikaSaku Week. I (Mako) can’t believe how far we’ve come, from this little event in 2017 where two people and a half knew about it, to the massive (for a rarepair, at least) amount of content from the last edition. Thank you so, so much for being here every year, you’re the best. Let’s celebrate ShikaSaku one more time!

No Terror in the Bang: The Dark Muse of "Lulled by the Waves" With the hauntingly swelling "Lulled by the Waves," No Terror in the Bang enticingly invites listeners into a swirling sea of emotion, where despair's murky depths are met with an eerily tranquil state of being. This second single from their impending album "HEAL" washes over you, a cresting wave of cinematic metal that urges one to immerse within its pervasive undertow. https://open.spotify.com/track/3h4atVAxRKHuXqfhIFs8QG Poignantly capturing humanity's darkest musings, the lyrics coil imaginatively around your consciousness like cold oceanic depths longing for surrender. The notion of death as both menace and sanctuary is rendered exquisitely through richly textured female vocals that rise and fall with a spectral charm; here lies an evocative siren call weaving creatively between sorrow’s dirge and liberation’s last breath. No Terror in the Bang distills progressive metal down to its most poignant aspects—allowing explosively complex moments to live alongside those as delicate as sea foam spray on marbled skin. Their latest offering alternates deftly between frenzied turbulence and somnolent dreamscape—a chiaroscuro soundscape inviting reflection on life's inherent tempests. [caption id="attachment_53529" align="alignnone" width="2000"] No Terror in the Bang: The Dark Muse of "Lulled by the Waves"[/caption] The music itself is an imaginative labyrinth; guitars ebb and flow around percussive breakers while orchestral flourishes soften sharp edges of pained introspection. It feels akin to witnessing a dazzling aurora borealis across indigo night skies—an undulation between eternal sleep under starlit sanctity or waking struggle against merciless tides. "Lulled by the Waves" does not simply suggest darkness but immerses you within it, ensuring each listener emerges baptized by emotional authenticity—the blurring line between pain’s disdainful caress and yearned-for oblivion becomes startlingly clear under No Terror in the Bang's spellbinding artistry. Anticipating "HEAL" transforms now into bated breath; if this track serves as any portent, we should prepare for odysseys uncharted yet deeply known within soul-recess realms. Herein promises more than just songs: they're woven narratives—with thread spun from anguish—that resonate long after final notes dissolve into silence...or perhaps beginning anew somewhere among unfathomable celestial waves. Follow No Terror in the Bang on Website, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.

For this assignment I chose to analyze the Mater Dolorosa, previously known as The Blue Madonna, 1670s painted by Onorio Marinari (Italian, 1627-1715). My boyfriend, John, has always told me how this work of art captures him every time he visits it. And through the process I took of deeply studying this piece I can see why that is. This painting can be found in the Italian Baroque Art section of The John and Mable Ringling Museum located in Sarasota. This painting is an oil on canvas and measures the image: 21 × 15 1/2 × 3/4 in. (53.3 × 39.4 × 1.9 cm) and frame: 30 1/8 × 24 1/8 × 2 1/4 in. (76.5 × 61.3 × 5.7 cm). Bequest of John Ringling, 1936. The reason I mentioned this to be previously known as The Blue Madonna is because this piece was once attributed to the great Carlo Dolci. Upon further research by the Ringling Museum, it was learned that this was painted by one of Dolci’s greatest followers and cousin, Onorio Marinari. Dolci and Marinari had a remarkably comparable way of producing art that portrayed a great balance between melancholy and sweetness to their pieces. In the Mater Dolorosa, we see a beautiful portrait of Mary wrapped in a royal blue robe. An emphasized color that would capture the eye of anyone strolling through this exhibit. Which would easily allow for this painting to be one of the most visited works of art in the museum. Blue became associated with the Virgin Mary in the early 5th century and the color signifies her role as the new ark while representing peace, tranquility, and the divine. In this painting we can appreciate how Mary is illuminating from the inside out. Her face was captured in such a soft way that she almost resembles a porcelain doll. I could physically feel the spiritual glow of her aurora just by looking at her. Marinari did a stunning job of using the effect of chiaroscuro in this piece through dark shadows of the background and luminescent light shining down on Mary’s face. The slight touch of highlight added on top of her head makes it look like a halo is being cast over her. How incredible that there is only one subject matter to this piece, yet there is such a wide range of emotions to feel in the simplicity. This artwork tells me that the artist, Marinari, is a religious man who wanted us to view Mary in a soft and innocent lighting. He might have even wanted us to feel sympathy for Mary and the melancholy she felt. I say that because the Mater Dolorosa means “the Virgin Mary sorrowing for the death of Jesus Christ.” Based on everything that I have learned from the artwork and the artist, this is an important piece to society and to the world. This is because the world needs spiritual enlightenment and awakening. We need pieces like this to help us feel emotions that are greater beyond our own understanding. That is where the truest form of peace and purpose can be found. And I believe it to be a hope from Marinari, that we would not only view his artworks as a skill but that we may look through it to understand the emotions he was trying to convey to us.

"Raidude, buddy, I just wanna see that mop of yours... C'mon man, I know you've got hair like Fujin's." [Sexual? fantasy]
Blurt out the first sexual fantasy or desire your muse has towards mine, no matter what it is. No consequences! SEIZE THE MOMENT! (Anons welcome!) || @bastardsunlight || accepting
⚡ || Lightning flickers across the dark sky, stars peeking out here and there between the rolling clouds, puffed up with the weaving arcs of his thunder, puffing up with their own smoke. Silent, the night sits, with its perilous destruction contained within the flashing streaks of high voltage. Ancient, inscrutable language slips from Raiden’s solemn lips, his focused gaze hidden by the rim of his elaborate jingasa, reflecting the very pristine hue of Jinsei itself.
“It could very possibly be that some things are true and will remain that way regardless of anything. How perceptive and precise of you to assume that I would not be hairless beneath my weaved war hat,” the continuous static charge of his gaze ascends, breaching the obsidian tapestry where the Thunder God remains buoyant, with his posture evermore upright, with the wide span of his arms stretched out as crackling orbs pass their jarring jolts in his veins. “Your patience will be rewarded, Johnny Cage, perhaps it is your propitious fate that has lead you here in my transmutation, only heightened by your marvel and curiosity.”
How Raiden’s corporeality detaches from the construct of time and place, anchored only by the ephemerality of passing, scintillating conduits passing through the burning pyres lighting the expansive, herculean columns supporting the numerous balconies. All the walls, windows, hallways become discernible only as having happened in this specific space. Penetrating blades of light coalesce with his static thunder, as chiaroscuro silhouette of his vehement form alter, as loosened immaculate white of his hair becomes a rushing waterfall, as the confines of the war hat cleaves with a deafening thud. His hair is luscious and thick, perhaps not as long as Fujin’s, but still a spectacle to behold, like an aurora.
Burnt silver sears the sky, licking the fields of the atmosphere with glorious shimmer, and Raiden’s form descends over the dusking twilight, once hidden arising with the halcyon petrichor of his tender gaze. The flowing iridescent ink over his pectorals, flowing seamlessly to his sculpted arms perpetuate his past history of eons that still, etches into the Thunder God’s being; as a destroyer and a healer, the Storm of the demigods’ quenching might could be as complex as the temperament of their elements. Despite his own utter failures and shortcomings, Raiden fights the hardest, and attempts to fill his imperturbable and forbearing heart with trickles of humanity and sentiments. “I sincerely hope that what you have witnessed have fulfilled your... desire.” ⚡ ||

If I were to have an apocalyptic event in my lore, here are the dragons who would live, and those who would die, decided ENTIRELY by a simple coin flip. (Heads is alive, tails is dead.)
Some dragons are exempt for one reason or another; there might not be an isolated event disastrous enough to fell them, they might be unlikely to be in-territory at the time, they might actually live out-of-territory, or they might live in places the disaster isn’t likely to reach, like Goblin and The Collector.
Why am I doing this?
Sadomasochism.
