In your response about military service, you mentioned wasteland comp-het. Do you mind expanding your thoughts on that? Like, what are the differences between pre-war and post-war attitudes, what do you think are he reasons the wasteland is like that? Is it just Boston/the commonwealth? Do you think those attitudes are still around quite universally? How does that impact queer people in the wasteland?
In my mind, nothing cultural necessarily changed in America immediately following the bombs. I would imagine that the atomic-age veneer of 2070's America and the subsequent focus on the nuclear (ha-ha) family meant queer people weren't openly hated or persecuted in prewar America, but socially ostracized and shooed into the closet. There's nothing WRONG with being gay, per se, but are you sure you're not just confused? Rebelling? Propagandized by communist spies? There's two billion Chinese people and only half a million Americans, still shy of a billion counting Canada. It's YOUR DUTY to replenish the generation of kids WE just threw into the meat grinder in Alaska/Gobi/Canada.
After the war the justifications changed but the underlying message stayed the same, especially for women and vault dwellers: stay home, get married, get pregnant, raise the new generation of Americans, be they panicky vault dwellers or resourceful legacy muties.
That being said I don't think that open homophobia is either rampant or ubiquitous. I imagine that (like in our world) proximity to larger population centers makes people less inclined to care, because of greater social progress there, proximity creating familiarity, or simply having other things to worry about. A waster in Vegas, for example, isn't going to give a damn if Old Ben tries to book him for a night, because he's running to pay the Omertas who threatened to break his legs, and it's probably not the first time he's been propositioned that day.
Boston, meanwhile, is a slum to end all slums. It's been over two hundred years and the place is basically a giant hole in the ground full of garbage. There are still skeletons and trash everywhere. It's economically depressed and has no real government, only small bands of survivors - typically nuclear families - eking out a living, eating trash and huddling in shacks. So I always imagined that places like that are sort of the backwoods of postwar America. In contrast to the cosmopolitan jewels like Vegas and the Boneyard, survivors here have very little to do, limited exposure to strangers, and a constant everyday threat of cannibalism, robbery, or just plain murder that makes them highly distrustful of strangers and new ideas.
Ultimately it makes life in these spaces very lonely for many queer wastelanders, who grow up knowing something is different about them but often go their whole lives without learning the tools and language to live their lives authentically. Not all of them though! Opinion on LGBTQ folks in the wasteland tends to improve the closer to NCR one gets, and one trip to Vegas can be enough to get people informed and living their truths.
Cheyenne has never been to California and I haven't played Fallout 2 in about 8 years, so I can't speak on attitudes there, although I know Knight in FNV mentions "friendships" are frowned upon there. And I won't be commenting whatsoever on the Legion; it should go without saying that abusing child slaves and men loving men are not the same thing or really even close, and it's kind of weird to hypersexualize legion men because of their perceived homosexuality when they're about as queer as a bunch of frat boys.

The "Echo" Chamber - Another Marvel/BH6 Character Discussion
So for those of you who may not be in the know, Echo is dropping on Disney+ today. Now, a lot of people have varying amounts of Marvel Fatigue and may not be interested in this series, but I will actually be super interested in how they handle the protagonist herself.
Because you see, I'm a big fan of Maya Lopez.
Not necessarily the MCU one...
But the comic one.
So here's a little backstory into the superhero known as Echo.
One of her defining characteristics (whether it's a good thing or not) is that she is one of the few deaf characters in Marvel comics. What she lacks in hearing she more than makes up for in her fighting abilities, as she has the same ability as Taskmaster: to replicate any movement or action perfectly while only seeing it once. With that, she's one of the best fighters in the entire Marvel universe.
Her father worked for Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, and after being in his employ for a long time, Fisk kills him. William makes him promise to take care of her daughter, which he does. After shooting him, Maya finds him, but not before leaving the trademark handprint of his blood on her face.
Fisk would take Maya in, sender her off to a gifted school, and trained her with her skills. He would later convince her that Matt Murdock (Daredevil) was the one who killed her father. After several issues in the 1999 run of Daredevil, secrets would be revealed, and Maya would blind Fisk by shooting out both of his eyes.
And you though my version of Kate was crazy.
After going on a personal quest to find herself, Maya would later get recruited into the New Avengers on the recommendation of Matt. She used the guise of Ronon (a former alias of Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye). Over the years, she played a central part in the New Avengers run and the events World War Hulk and Secret Invasion, being one of the first to discover that Jessica Drew was a Skrull.
Later, she moved to LA and went undercover before having to blow said cover to save Moon Knight. They teamed up together to take down the Kingpin of LA, but not before she was killed by Count Nefaria.
Of course, we know that being dead means literally nothing in the Marvel universe, and she shows up alive and well taking down another attempt of a villain taking over NYC.
For a while, Maya was out of action, not appearing in comics for almost five years.
And then?
Well.
And then entered the Phoenix.
"Enter The Phoenix" was a story arc in the 2018 Avengers run that saw heroes and villains alike in a "competition" to see who would wield the power of the Phoenix. I put that in quotes because it wasn't really much of a battle; the Avengers figured out there were other things going on.
But it didn't really matter in the end because guess who ended up with the power of the Phoenix?
Well it wouldn't be much of a Echo write-up if she didn't get it, now would it?
Alas, she wouldn't have the powers for long. After a less-than-well received mini-series (Echo: Phoenix Song), she helped the Avengers with the Multiversal Masters of Evil and the Council of Red. She used up the power to help heal the verses destroyed by the God Quarry.
And...that's kind of where we're at with her.
(Also, I know there were about twenty words and phrases that may not make any sense whatsoever, so you might want to take up the opportunity to read her comic before proceeding.)
Now I know what you're saying. "Jason, how on Earth are you going to make this about Big Hero 6? We already know you didn't think of her when you wrote that blog post about other potential team members you were thinking about."
...True.
But Riri, Nadia, America, Alison, and Cindy were not the only people that were considered.
They were just the only ones who got logos.
A Cheyenne deaf teenage girl with super memory powers and an ability to kick your butt sixty ways to San Fransokyo? Not to mention a (varying level of) permanent handprint on her face? You bet your patootie that she was on that list.
The problem, as many of the previous people were, was a way to integrate them into the mythos. Her main adversaries (Daredevil and Kingpin) are nowhere to be seen. Fisk is a NY guy too; unless he finds his way to SF for some reason, he wouldn't fit that well.
You'd have to find some other way to get her in. Who do we know that is a superb fighter that can also swordplay.
They also would probably be equally ruthless and not afraid of having to do what it take to achieve their goal.
...Oh.
Oh dear.
How about the daughter of a kingpin?
(Marvel's Echo airs all five episodes tonight on Disney+.)

What is the headverse version of Stephanie Brown like?
Daughter of registered nurse Agnes Crystal Bellinger-Brown and Arthur Brown*, Steph grew up in the shadow of not only her father's criminal career and eventual death, but also the destruction of large parts of Gotham by Bane. Her mother became addicted to prescription painkillers and Steph struggled at school, constantly getting in fights despite (or because of) her intimidating intellect and perfect test scores.
Inspired by a mix of resentment for her criminal father and her memory of Batman's actions in defeating Bane, Steph became Spoiler, undermining her father specifically before branching out to Gotham's larger criminal underbelly...naturally bringing her to the attention of Batman, though it was ultimately his apprentices Tim Drake and Harper Row would become most significant her life. Steph and Tim would date briefly, but Harper would go on to be the love of Steph's life, helping to raise her child Leslie while Steph was in med school.
While always Spoiler at heart, Steph played a few roles in the Gotham Knights, filling in as Robin and Batgirl alongside Tim and Cass, and eventually spending some time in the role of Nightwing before Cheyenne Fremont eventually took the mantle. While capable in a fight, Steph's inventiveness and quick-thinking always served her better than the martial arts Cass was champion in.
The father of Steph's child, Broderick March, has a connection to Batman as well, the stepson of Bruce's older sibling Samantha Thomas Wayne when they were living as "Lincoln March" and feigning a loving marriage to Rebecca March (The Court of Owls' Doctor Leviticus). With Rebecca's experiments on both Brody and Dexter Dent (at the time reconditioned to believe he was a fictitious child named "Turner Hayes" supposedly orphaned by Batman), it remains to be seen if Leslie Brown carries any generational side effects from the traces of Electrum in her father's body...
*former host of the game show Think Thank Thunk, source of an infamous bit of lost media after Arthur attempted to murder three people associated with the show. The footage is believed to be in the possession of the Wayne Estate.

Brandon De Wilde, Jean Arthur, Van Heflin, and Alan Ladd in Shane (George Stevens, 1953)
Cast: Alan Ladd, Jean Arthur, Van Heflin, Brandon De Wilde, Jack Palance, Ben Johnson, Edgar Buchanan, Emile Meyer, Elisha Cook Jr. Screenplay: A.B. Guthrie Jr., based on a novel by Jack Schafer. Cinematography: Loyal Griggs. Art direction: Hal Pereira, Walter H. Tyler. Film editing: William Hornbeck, Tom McAdoo. Music: Victor Young.
The sexual tension between Shane (Alan Ladd) and Marian Starrett (Jean Arthur) is key to the texture and motivation of George Stevens's Shane. It's obvious from the moment when she watches him, shirtless and glistening with sweat, help her rather dull (and fully clad) husband, Joe (Van Helflin), uproot a tree stump, and it plays like a low bass note throughout the film, until it becomes the main reason why Shane feels he has to move on at the end. After all, he has just humiliated Joe by knocking him unconscious and taking on the role Joe assumes is his rightful one, thereby reducing him in the eyes of his wife and son, Joey (Brandon De Wilde). It also doesn't escape the notice of the bad guys, one of whom taunts Shane with the fact that Joe has a pretty wife. (The filters used on some of Arthur's closeups are a giveaway: She was 50 when she made Shane, her last film, but she's plausible as a character 10 or 15 years younger.) It's to Stevens's credit that he plays all of this as low-key as he does. It would have been much too easy to move the eternal triangle to the center of the film's structure. Shane is an intelligent film, though to my mind it gets a little heavy-handed with the introduction of the black-hatted Wilson (Jack Palance) as the potential nemesis to the knight errant Shane. As fine as Palance's performance is, I wish his character had been given a more complex backstory than just "hired gun out of Cheyenne." Otherwise, the screenplay by A.B. Guthrie Jr. does a fair job of not making its villains too deep-dyed: The chief tormenter of the sodbusters, the cattleman Rufus Ryker (Emile Meyer), is given a speech justifying himself as having gotten there first and settled the land -- we haven't yet reached the point in historical consciousness where the claims of the Native Americans are taken seriously. And Shane's first opponent, Chris Calloway (Ben Johnson), eventually has a change of heart -- not an entirely convincing one to my mind, considering Calloway's behavior in his first encounter with Shane -- and warns Shane that Joe's appointment with Ryker is a trap. Stevens uses Jackson Hole, Wyoming, almost as effectively as John Ford used Monument Valley, and Loyal Griggs won a well-deserved Oscar for his cinematography, even if Paramount's decision to trim the original images at top and bottom to make the film appear to have been shot in a widescreen process resulted in some oddly cropped compositions. Shane is undeniably a classic, but I think it takes itself a little too seriously: The great Western directors, like Ford and Howard Hawks, knew the value of a little comic relief, but in Shane even Edgar Buchanan plays it straight.

NIGHTWING PROFILES: Jason Todd
1st Nightwing Appearance: Nightwing (1996) #118 Other mantles: Robin, Wingman, Outlaw, Red Robin, Batman Secret identity: Jason Todd is the biological son of Willis and Catherine Todd and the adopted son of Bruce Wayne. He's officially dead, but has, occasionally, run his own gangs.
ORIGINS
A year after Blüdhaven was destroyed by Chemo both Dick and Jason find themselves in New York. Dick hasn’t been Nightwing for just as long and hears about Jason’s presence as New York's murderous Nightwing through the news.
Jason dresses up as Nightwing to get Dick’s attention. He knows Dick was present when Blockbuster died and wants him to see the merit in killing criminals, hoping that once their views align, they’ll be able to team up.
The first thing Jason does in New York is kill child kidnappers in front of witnesses. Because Nightwing wasn’t seen for so long after a traumatic event, many citizens believe the new murderous Nightwing is the old one.
Jason doesn’t let himself be stopped by Dick, but they eventually teamup to defeat the Pierce brothers, two criminal twins who were trying to make a name in New York. A third Nightwing, Cheyenne Freemont, helps them.
Appears as Nightwing in: Nightwing: Brothers in Blood (2006)
TRIVIA
Jason was likely introduced as Nightwing in this story to draw a parallel to the enemy twins, the Pierce brothers.
“Brothers in Blood” is the story in which he gets temporarily transformed into a tentacle monster.
Jason was the first kid to be adopted by Bruce and the first kid Dick wanted to adopt. Bruce decided the responsibility should lie with him (Detective Comics (1937) #526).
Jason and Dick had a good relationship before Jason’s death even if some canon gives it a rocky start.
Depending on canon, Jason has red or black hair.
At one point in time Jason thought Lady Shiva might be his mother.
Talia and Jason acquired Kord Industries with the resources of the League of Assassins to push Bruce out of the Board of Directors. Because Kord Industries was Wayne E's Research and Development branch, Jason gained access to both Blue Beetle and Batman technology.
Jason temporarily takes in a sidekick, a girl named Sasha who goes by Scarlet, who was traumatised by Professor Pyg. His second temporary sidekick would become Duela Dent. He later taught several metahumans he was introduced to by Lex Luthor, including a telepathic infant named Babe in Arms.
Jason has used the possible death of both Tim and Dick to rile Bruce up. When Jason held a knife to Tim's throat and when Jason fought Bruce while Blüdhaven got destroyed.
Natalia Knight aka Nocturna temporarily adopted Jason alongside Bruce Wayne.
Jason smokes on occasion since he was Robin.
Pre Crisis, Jason’s parents were named Joseph and Trina, however, after Crisis they were renamed Willis and Catherine.
After Jason stopped using Wingman, his father Willis took it up.
Writer Jim Starlin originally wanted to give Jason HIV, but the idea was rejected by editorial.
Though Jason is most known for his use of firearms, he has also used swords and a crowbar as weapons. During Brothers in Blood he uses knives. He also once killed a man with a taser.
As Robin, Jason had several nicknames from different characters including Jaylad, Toddster, and Little Wing.
Jason once found a dog, whom he named Dog.

2023 OC Battle Royale! Round One!
So, i thought it would be fun to throw in most of my characters in a free-for-all fight, and see who yall chose as the winners! A nice time and getting some activity on here cuz reading ppls tags makes me smile! Each round lasts aroynd a week, and the next round is made either that day, or the closest day i have off cuz oh boy are these long! I'll have the rounds master list pinned each week as well for easy acess.
Now, you might be wondering why I said most of my OC's.
To make things slightly fair, I made a few rules:
No deities/deity power level OC's (which is why the Celests of both galaxies are not here)
None of my personas I use for vent art (this includes the "positive" ones of Dee Astraeus and Co.)
Self inserts are allowed because they're halfway into being OC's anyways
Try not to pit OC's from the same storyline , or in a relationship together
That being said... polls under the cut

A Dine Driver robot revealed a head at Norfolk, and Vance had the duty of telling Knight she was assisting the ‘An Eye for an Eye’ villain’s child bride in preparing for her movie role as an NCIS agent- also he got to make the obligatory Top Gun reference, and I wish there’d been a bit where McGee thought she was familiar but couldn’t place her. Chloe Marlene was surprisingly down-to-earth and studious, which was a nice break from the usual snotty, stuck-up celebrity portrayal that shows go with, and she and Knight discovered a bomb in the robot’s body, which promptly exploded. The head’s eyes had heterochromia, which was definitely going to become an important plot point, and Kasie schooled Chloe on forensic procedure, which was great. Parker and Torres discovered the victim’s body, along with two more, which meant that the team were on the hunt for a serial killer. I absolutely loved Chloe asking why anyone would kill someone based on eye color- it totally made up for the previous missed opportunities to reference 2x17. The notion that someone would kill people based on their having heterochromia was definitely new (and plain weird). Kasie looked cute in her coveralls and tied-back hair, Parker’s dragging the killer was great, as was the fact he watched a movie called ‘Paw and Order’, and I liked how the act ended with the van guy laughing creepily. I can’t believe the phrase ‘eye for an eye’ was actually uttered (the writers definitely knew what they were doing), and it would’ve been nice for Ducky to make an appearance, but the mention was enough. Knight’s pep talk to Chloe was great, and inspired me as well as her. The Harlans and Cheyenne Fuentes were found, Torres’ wide-eyed portrayal of a dead body was terrifying, and overall this was a great episode that I really enjoyed.
