I appreciate X Generations giving Sonic respond dialogue to his friends after rescuing them instead of just standing there in silence like he did in the original.

Amy watched the green landscape sweeping past her as Tails carried her in a long aerial dash toward the abandoned Chemical Plant. Soon, the metal towers were within sight, and Tails slowed down to seek out an open space for him to land. However, as he drew close to the structures, he couldn't help but notice...
"Did someone... do something... to this place? It's so... clean!"
Amy nodded as Tails carefully descended into a courtyard surrounded by vibrant greenery, a marked path leading toward the metal structures which marked the entrance to the Zone. Not only was there an unusual abundance of plants and nature in the areas once polluted with Eggman's experimental chemicals, but it appeared that even the towers and chutes had been renovated and restored with brightly colored paints.
"Sonic told me what he had seen when we were visiting the Oil Ocean Zone. Everyone on Westside Island has been working hard to restore the land to what it looked like before Eggman took over and started building factories everywhere. They're still far from being done, but everything certainly looks a lot cleaner from what Sonic remembered the last time he was here."
She looked up at the gleaming towers, hearing the faint sound of flowing water in the distance. Tails, catching his breath and resting his tails, sat down on a nearby park bench.
"Yeah... It looks like they turned this place... into some kind of water park."
The sound of a distant explosion caught their attention. Turning to look at the entrance area, they saw Sonic arrive, skidding to a halt and kicking up a small cloud of dust. He turned toward the two with a stern look on his face.
"Lots of badniks here. ...Well, not so much since I got started. Each one had an animal trapped inside it. Eggman's definitely up to something here."
Amy drew her hammer, resting the handle against her shoulder.
"We'll help investigate, then. Once Tails gets rested up, we'll check around to see if there's any signs of what Eggman's been doing here."
Sonic nodded, giving Tails a quick glance to ensure that he was okay. He then took off back into the Zone, dashing up along the metal structures as he explored the higher reaches of the factory-turned-waterpark.
Amy turned to Tails, who gave her an acknowledging nod, lifting up his Miles Electric for her to see.
"Somewhere in the old plant, there was a control room with access to a database. I should be able to find something there."

Recently made this custom character in Sonic Forces that I've really taken a liking to.
Came up with a backstory for him which boils down to him being a Resistance member who had an unfortunate accident in one of Eggman's Chemical Plant bases in which he fell into a pool of that pink, chemically tainted water (sometimes referred to as "Mega Mack"). In this incident, he almost drowned before being rescued, and had swallowed a significant amount of the substance. The result of this is that his body turned magenta and he developed breathing problems due to overexposure to the chemicals in the water.
Tails was able to fashion a special apparatus to ease his breathing problems, which resembles a gas mask. He won't die without it, but it keeps his breathing regular so he can continue to go on missions, at his own insistence.
His personality is pretty laid back and some might describe him as cynical, though that doesn't stop him from giving his all during missions, and ever since his unfortunate incident he's become more determined than ever to take Eggman down.
I'm thinking of naming this guy "Scuzz". lol

After finishing my 6th playthrough of Sonic Frontiers, I got to thinking about the Cyberspace levels, specifically the oft-bemoaned re-use of old level themes implemented for them, and how these could have been better implemented.
Certainly, the best-case scenario would have been to just make new level themes altogether, but my thinking here was to try and figure out how SEGA could have used the ones they did in a manner more effective to the overall themes of the game itself.
Memory is a really strong theme in this game - this is kind of put forward for the reason that they used old level themes to begin with - and each of the game's 4 main islands has its own storyline centering around one of Sonic's companions and their memories.
This, of course, does not include Rhea Island, but we get lucky there because Rhea also does not have Cyber Space stages.
4 main islands (Kronos, Ares, Chaos, Ouranos)
4 companions (Amy, Knuckles, Tails, Sage)
4 level themes (Green Hill, Chemical Plant, Sky Sanctuary, City)
What's interesting to me (and odd that SEGA seemingly did not catch) is that each level theme kind of matches up with one of the companions in some way.
It wouldn't take a lot - if any - tweaking to reimagine the City as Stardust Speedway, where Sonic rescued Amy from Metal Sonic in her debut.
Tumblr media
Sky Sanctuary is on Angel Island, where Knuckles lives, first appearing in Knuckles' debut game - Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Tumblr media
We have Chemical Plant on West Side Island, where Tails is from, and where he first met Sonic back in Sonic 2
Tumblr media
Then we're left with Green Hill, which does not hold much relevance to Sage, but is significant to Sonic himself, as it's where his adventures began - the first level from the first game in the series.
Tumblr media
So how do we capitalize on this?
The problem is that, in the game, the Cyber Space level themes are all mixed up. On every island, you'll do some Green Hill stages, some Chemical Plant stages, some City stages, and some Sky Sanctuary stages.
Instead, we would have each island implement ONE level theme for its Cyber Space stages.
It's likely the level layouts could even remain largely the same, they would just need to switch some of the assets they used.
Stardust Speedway on Kronos Island to emphasize Amy's story
Sky Sanctuary on Ares Island to emphasize Knuckes' story
Chemical Plant on Chaos Island to emphasize Tails' story
And Green Hill on Ouranos Island to bring everything home for the finale
This not only helps justify the re-use of old level themes by linking them to each of the characters and their memory-centric stories, but it also gives each island a stronger identity, with each having its own aesthetic theme for its Cyber Space stages.

After playing through story mode again, it can be said that the game is pretty much the same as before, although there are some minor changes to the dialogue.

Although the changes are so minor, it really makes you wonder why they even changed it to begin with. It also causes the Mandela Effect where it feels like you're remembering it differently.

That being said, I do like that the developers went out of their way to reference the Sonic games more, such as the Time Stones from Sonic CD, Green Hill Zone being from South Island, or Chemical Plant Zone from West Side Island.
