IDA KOHLMEYER: ESTATE REPRESENTATION In the 1980s, Kohlmeyer abandoned the grid and allowed geometric shapes to float in watery, atmospheric spaces, again evoking Hofmann’s legacy. In a variation termed the Mythic series, she introduced a new symbolic element in forms suggestive of balls, arrows, and architectural and landscape motifs. She brought together strands of her earlier art in her Circus Series, depicting her distinctive semi-abstract hieroglyphic symbols and signs in complex spatial relationships. She had adopted a new flatness arranging bolder, brighter more clearly defined forms in arrangements that are either open or gridded. Stronger in their patterns, these works have been related to the New York-based Pattern and Decoration movement begun by a group of artists in the early 1970s, including Valerie Jaudon, Joyce Kozloff, Miriam Schapiro, and Kohlmeyer’s friend, Kendall Shaw. 다양한 조형미를 갖춘 작품들이 갤러리 전체에 흩어져 있었다. 밀폐된 공간은 견고하고 순수하다. 흔적을 덮어놓은 듯 전시장을 뒤덮은 천들 위에 놓인 조각들. 아르헨티나 소설가이자 시인인 호르레 루이스 보르헤스의 소설 “Dialogue of echoes” 에서 집의 덧없음 그 안에 수���된 것에 대한기억 사이에 대한 긴장을 묘사한다. 전시의 제목처럼 마리오 프라츠(Mario Praz)-<생애의 집, The house of life>저자, ”집에 대한 감각이 없는 사람은 자기 안에 음악이 없는 사람이다” 가 떠오른다. 또다른 내 자신을 발견하는 곳.

My work is distinguished by a broad spectrum of vivid and strong colors while incorporating more subdued tons of oil paint and mixed media techniques.” – Zvia Merdinger Israeli artist Zvia Merdinger creates emotive, large-scale, oil and mixed media paintings distinguished by using a broad spectrum of vivid colors and emotional brush strokes. Merdinger's compositions depict her childhood being spent in a refugee camp in Kirgizstan, USSR during World War II; these memories resurface in her paintings as conceptual, organic forms, which, coupled with the scale of the works, allows them to appear as large and striking as they would have been to a child. The abstraction of the ground behind the natural forms also lends the works a dreamlike quality and removes them from reality.
