Phantom of the Paradise is a 1974 American musical rock opera horror comedy film written and directed by Brian De Palma, and scored by and starring Paul Williams. In the film, a disfigured composer writes his music for a woman he loves so that she will perform his music. However, a record producer betrays him and steals his music to open his rock palace, The Paradise. Betrayed, the composer dons a new appearance and exacts revenge on the producer. It co-stars William Finley and Jessica Harper.
The story is a loosely adapted mixture of several classic European works: Gaston Leroux's novel The Phantom of the Opera, Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Faust by Goethe/Christopher Marlowe.
The film was a box office failure and received negative reviews; however it earned praise for its music, receiving Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations. Over the years, the film has received much more positive reviews and has become a cult film.

Ahh thank you frond! I love talking about books, and peripherally, talking about me :D
1. The book you’ve re-read the most times?
It’s gotta be Black Beauty by Anna Sewell. Probably upwards of 50 times, no exaggeration. I always needed to have a book on the go when I was lil (...still do actually) and Black Beauty was always there on my shelf to fill the void between the other horse and princess books. I had pretty stereotypical little girl reading habits. Second would be the Secret Garden because wholesome/10. Plants, robust red-cheeked Yorkshire children, secrets. Och. Good shit.
2.  Top 5 books of all time?
WHY HAVE YOU DONE THIS
I thought we were friends
You have forced me
To make
.... a Decision
My book collection is in storage right now so I’ll probably miss a few really key ones but I’ll give it a go *rifles through goodreads history for a good 20 mins*
Small Gods or Going Postal (can I lump all of the Discworld books into one?)
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
The Liveship Traders by Robin Hobb (a series but shhhhh)
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
The Lost Years of Merlin by T.A. Barron
I do read things other than fantasy, I promise. But they’re just, not as good.
12. Did you enjoy any compulsory high school readings?
Yes! Nearly all of them, in fact. I got to take an AP Literature class and have awesome enthusiastic teachers and other bookworm classmates, so naturally we got waaaay too into everything. We once spent an entire class period discussing the first word of Beowulf. Beowulf was fire. Hella rhymes. Sea serpents, all that goodness. The things we read were also quite different from the regular curriculum, so that might have helped. I’ve still never read Catcher in the Rye.
I also really enjoyed A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, by James Joyce (the most poetic description of algebra you’ll ever see, plus a good 50 pages of hellfire, and some transcendent seagull noises. literary/10)
Also, Heart of Darkness was gloriously dense, and Macbeth was fecking high drama.

Thank you for the ask! Happy reading ~

8 and 36 for the "talk about" prompts
8: Talk about the thing you are most proud of
Ok so this is kind of lame but I worked my butt off in high school. Like four hours of sleep or less every night.
I did four AP courses, two of them on my own, and got fives (the highest mark you can get) in all of them (except for physics, because there wasn’t an AP physics exam in my province apparently?? Shoulda checked that one before I spent a semester doing it). I had a blast. The AP teachers and students were so passionate and excited about learning everything you could with no holds barred on your enthusiasm.
I was in the PVA (performing and visual arts) program at my school for singing, and we were one of the top choirs in the province. I also took private vocal lessons and competed in local festivals, while teaching myself the harp.
I was on the track team and made it to city’s for hurdles. I was in a super intense kickboxing class, got my green/blue belt (highest you can go without sparring – me mum didn’t let me and honestly I’m ok with that) and was one of the top in the class. I was the fittest I have ever been. I could do over 50 push-ups at once no problem. ‘Course, I always had to go vomit after the class and was constantly sore :D
On top of all this I sewed, read a whole bunch, wrote creatively, drew, climbed trees, knit, played D&D with the best damn D&D group ever to be nerds in a garage (shout-out to @ironykins) and watched a lot of Whose Line is it Anyway.
All this while (and probably because) my dad had brain cancer, which was getting worse every year, and my family was at this point almost falling apart from the stress of the long, grueling illness.
It gave me an escape, an excuse, and ultimately, the Governor General’s Award for the top grades in the whole province, plus ~$30 000 in scholarship money.
So, yeah. I’m proud of all I accomplished in high school. I am constantly comparing my current self to that bar, before my dad finally passed away, before I finally got sick, but I get a lot more sleep now, which is really great.
36: Talk about your guilty pleasures
Well, since this is my “everything else” blog, you probably know a few of them by now. 80s pop and rock. Especially British 80s music (Bowie, Adam and the Ants, Kate Bush…). Sometimes I go on a Taylor Swift music video binge. Music videos in general. Especially musicals. Old sappy musicals. I will watch clips for ever. Oh yeah, Phantom of the Opera. That obsession is never going away. Labyrinth. Musicals/Period dramas with dark, powerful, problematic dudes for some reason. Uhg. Why
(Edit: My Chemical Romance. A guilty pleasure so repressed I forgot about it until I ran across a mashup on my dash. There’s something just so primally, disturbingly satisfying about them)
In terms of food, Hawkin’s Cheesies. And chocolate-covered pretzels. I could eat apples for days, but that’s not really a guilty pleasure. Oh god, chicken fingers and fries. Sour jujubes. Milkshakes (heyo lactose intolerant folks)
Thrift shopping. I spend waaay too much money on clothes, always thinking I will alter them some day, make it perfect (Narrator: but she wouldn’t ever come back to those clothes) Just… outfits man. I was always playing dressup as a kid (and waltzing with my prettiest dresses… hmm come to think of it, is that foreshadowing?) and I don’t think that’s gonna change. Catch me at 2am with my room a complete mess, but lookin hella cute.
And the guiltiest of all? Tumblr. Why are you so addictive blue garbage site? Why can’t I just live my life?
*****
Thank you so much for asking! Wow was that was a roller-coaster of pride and shame

From Chelonaut’s latest release, Rise of the Orangutang, available now from Bandcamp.
Lyrics:
Time past count, I tell the tale First tracker I be, this here's my Yell Behind us now, long haul from the sands From the end that were the start To the crash that were the land Remember this May God have mercy on our souls May God have mercy on us all Remember this One of us will come for you Mr. Dead's on our back, and the wind's up our arse Past the Pox-Eclipse, highscrapers and cars Captain took us to the air, said bidey-bye to home To everything we was and everything we known Remember this Remember this, remember this Tomorrow-morrowland River of lights and turbulence Remember this Captain Walker said ...
Production notes:
This song is very similar to the version released on Past the Pox Eclipse, however, the bridge is different. It has an extra solo/noise part courtesy of an open E string and Digitech’s fantastic Hyperphase pedal.
Listen. Enjoy. Share.
