Discworld-"What I Did On My Holidays"
Really wished this book was real, and it's all just a picture book on the events of "The Color of Magic" and "The Light Fantastic"
And hey!, it's my first time drawing Rincewind and Two-Flower! Let's go!!!!

More from The Light Fantastic: 1) Herrena the Henna-Haired Harridan and 2) Bethan and Twoflower scaring the star cultists by pointing Rincewind at them ('we have a wizard and we're not afraid to use him!')

Inside every sane person there's a madman struggling to get out, said the shopkeeper, that's what I've always thought. No one goes mad quicker than a totally sane person.
-Terry Pratchett, The Light Fantastic (via the Cursed Shopkeeper)
..........................
Reading this gave me a double take because this theme is carried throughout almost all the books, especially among main characters. The Witches Series have loads of characters like these, Vimes has his mad dark alter-ego, the Vampire always live at the edge, the Rats from Maurice and his Talented Rodents, the Wizards from Sourcery, Rincewind when he loses all self-control, Jeremy Clockson.
You'd think it's a throwaway quote from the early books but it is not. It is a theme Terry Pratchett always played around with. Amazing. Truly Amazing.

I made some luggage stickers!!!!!!!! I loved revisiting this old sketch - did you know somebody even got one of my luggage sketches tattooed on them???? :0 wild!!!!
I took some of these stickers to a local con but.... nobody got them..... I hoped it at least looked like a D&D mimic if people weren't recognizing the character from the books...

Unseen University had never admitted women, muttering something about problems with the plumbing, but the real reason was an unspoken dread that if women were allowed to mess around with magic they would probably be embarrassingly good at it.

Finished The Light Fantastic today, didn't read it with the same kind of attack The Colour of Magic inspired, but then it is a direct sequel, bound to happen.
I loved the building of the eldritch nature of magic as radioactive, especially in how it interacts with lightwaves. The playing off the idea of computers just being rocks we tricked into thinking is utterly breathtaking also. The idea that Discworld just gets the platonic idea of a computer and tries to extrapolate that to stone circles and eventually HEX is wonderful. The scene at Death's house is wonderful of course. I love how even by the end of The Colour of Magic, Death is sort of losing interest in pursuing wizards who won't die on schedule. Pratchett is very invested in the alignment of evil with mundanity and bureaucracy, so letting Death relax a bit inherently makes him a bit more chill. Just hanging out learning bridge from Twoflower.
Oh also, I saw on reddit that Twoflower might be a mistranslation pun - either through French, 'fleur deux' - Florida - or through Greek, 'dis aster' - Disaster. I wouldn't put it past Pterry to be doing both simultaneously.
Solid five stars obviously. Untouchable.

When the first explorers from the warm lands around the Circle Sea travelled into the chilly hinterland they filled in the blank spaces on their maps by grabbing the nearest native, pointing at some distant landmark, speaking very clearly in a loud voice, and writing down whatever the bemused man told them. Thus were immortalized in generations of atlases such geographical oddities as Just A Mountain, I Don't Know, What? and, of course, Your Finger You Fool.
-- Terry Pratchett - The Light Fantastic
