A while back there was a post screenshotting some fool on Twitter's celebration that cuts to science funding would get rid of supposedly "useless" research on "the sex lives of beetles." This sparked a conversation about how these research projects being cut out or stopped actually are very important.

It is true, and at the same time, I think it is an important cultural value as a society to value knowledge for its own sake. Ultimately the justification for this might have something to do with "usefulness" ("research is always useful somehow") but the only societies that would benefit from this, would be those that value apparently-useless research.

Schlocktober: A Fake Event Where Anything Goes

While other people are out here dropping Kinktober prompt lists with 9000 stipulations, I bring you this.

Tag appropriately. 'Creator Chose Not to Use Archive Warnings' means anything goes. 'No Archive Warnings Apply' means your work is guaranteed not to contain any of the major archive warnings (non-con, major character death, graphic violence, or underage sex).

i think it is unrealistic for fans to expect sequels to be published a year after the first one and also want the book at its highest quality. it's okay to expect a few years in between and i think it weird how much pressure authors face to publish their next book immediately. that's a lot of stress on authors and i think it often leads to books being put out before they are ready.
