My head canon is that Monty and Charles bond over both being down bad for Edwin and form the Edwin Payne fan club and The Cat King and Simon (who comes down from Heaven just to yap about his feelings for Edwin). They have a logo and merch and it becomes a whole thing because the boys need a space to yap about how much they love Edwin Payne. Niko is also the unofficial president because she loves Edwin and is trying to be a wingwoman for Payneland. Edwin shows up one day and is like what’s going on?? And they’re all like nothing……

I've been scared to share this, but I feel like this is a safe space. This is for my fellow F1 fans that were commenting on my Mall of America post, asking to give ideas high. This is a far better time than what I came up with.

In February, I had an endoscopy. If you've never experienced/ heard of an endoscopy, it's like a colonoscopy, but they go through your throat instead of your ass. Obviously, for an imaging procedure, they put me under. Basically, they put a plastic piece in my mouth to keep it open and have a steady gateway for the camera.

So now that we've got the basics out of the way, it's story time.

You know that plastic piece? Yeah, well, my high ass thought it was a ball gag. As I am a minor, I'm sure that was alarming to the medical personnel. That wasn't the worst part, no, of course not. When they showed it to me, I started singing S&M (remix) by Rihanna and Britney Spears. Coincidently, that's also where I learned what the item listed above was.

I seriously think Edwin Payne is my favorite fictional character of all time. My third rewatch of DBDA is only confirming this. I just relate to him SO MUCH and I also admire him more than I can put into words. Love you, Edwin.

Character I feel is overrated: Charles Grey

I genuinely have NO idea how he scored so high in the Akuma6 popularity poll or why he has so much merch. He's not even attractive?? Phipps is better in every way.

I just.... really dislike him. In fact, he may be the one character in all of kuro I dislike most. Yes, even more than Kelvin and that crazy doc from the circus arc....

Character I feel is underrated: Bard

Yeah, shocker, I know. But he is! Even with his amazing arc with Lau, he's been ignored by most of the fandom. He's one of the most interesting and deep side characters in the story, and he's refreshing because he's so UNLIKE so many of the other kuro characters. I really wish more people would give him a chance, but sadly, a lot assume that he's just a buffoon and an idiot, which I could see if you've only seen the non-canon anime. But he's definitely much more than that, and it hurts when I see people who have read the damn manga who still dismiss him that way.

Sebastian recruited him specifically as someone who would be able to lead and direct the other servants, especially in combat, when Sebastian was either not around to do so or was otherwise engaged. And he has done that, during the Circus Arc, which is the first time we see him in action as more than just a guy who thinks you use a flamethrower to cook. We see it again in the Murder Arc, when he rallies the servants despite their grief. And ofc we see it again later in other arcs as well.

Sebastian clearly trusts and respects Bard on a certain level. If he didn't, he wouldn't leave him in charge, and he would not have a code with him ("collect our wages").

I didn’t expect to have my heart sweetly flayed open as I peruse tumblr this morning, but there ya go.

yes, i am posting about this again because yes, i am thinking about this again.

i understand that most people likely wanted for charles to immediately be in love with edwin back and for him to know it immediately, but i sincerely appreciate that he didn’t.

but i also appreciate that he didn’t immediately write it off either.

payneland is, for most people, absolutely endgame and i totally understand that (because it is for me as well) but charles has never had to look at edwin in a romantic light before. he’s never thought about it and he’s never been forced to think about it.

edwin can only begin to understand his attraction to charles because of the cat king forcing him to face his sexual attraction to men, which is something that he had been repressing for a long time before then.

charles has always known he’s liked girls and that has always been the easiest answer so i can’t imagine he ever thought about men in a romantic sense before his death and i don’t think he ever would’ve thought to see edwin in that light after his death.

to us, it was very clear off the bat that edwin was a raging homosexual. but i’d argue that it was for the characters of the show as well.

crystal immediately clocks edwin’s behaviour and frustration toward her as jealousy. she very quickly calls them a married couple and tells charles that edwin’s jealous. charles had called him jealous before that, but he thought that edwin was just jealous that there was a new person in charles’ life which is not inaccurate, but it goes far deeper than that, and i don’t think that either charles or edwin understand that in this moment. i’m fairly certain crystal does though. she has a much more modern understanding of human sexuality and i truly think she knows how edwin feels about charles off the bat.

niko very quickly caught on the fact that Edwin had something romantic going on with with monty and even the cat king (which i don’t think the other two picked up on, only that he makes edwin flustered and nervous). this is also just another reason that she’s such an amazing friend, especially to edwin, because she doesn’t even bad an eye at this despite the fact that Edwin is likely terrified right now. not only does he make an offhanded statement about how monty is a boy and he’s a boy, but he was also murdered for being a boy who was deemed too feminine, and that was because he was clocked as queer in his life.

the cat king is immediately able to say and do certain things that get edwin feeling hot and bothered because he’s physically attracted to him and he didn’t doubt his ability to do so once.

when esther turns monty into a human, she doesn’t think for a moment that he will have any trouble seducing edwin.

even simon in their 1916 all boys boarding school where homosexuality was quite literally a crime could tell that edwin was queer.

i think charles always kind of knew that edwin likes men, but it’s very much something that is in the back of his head that he knows vaguely. he knows to be jealous of monty and the cat king and not to be jealous of niko, but he doesn’t understand what that really means for edwin. no one has said it out loud, but it doesn’t make any difference to him when he does tell him because of course he is. that was always just kind of a fact about him, but not an important one. not to charles.

regardless, everyone knows him to be queer, and he knew himself to be different, but i think he did always know that he was attracted to men. it was repressed, of course, and im sure there was a lot of self hatred and internalized homophobia there, but i think he sort of always knew.

charles, on the other hand, just went with the label that was most natural, the one that didn’t have any negative connotations to it, and that most people assumed was the norm. it worked for him because he was able to masquerade as that demographic. he’s never had to think twice about his sexuality because all he needs to know is that he’s attracted to women and that’s fine. i think that if he was able to live a full life, he may never have even thought about it and would’ve settled down with a woman, never realizing that he was also attracted to men.

we all know how jealous he was about monty and the cat king, but i don’t think he even began to consider the possibility that this was a romantic sense of jealousy and not just his protectiveness for his friend and for his friendship.

it truly speaks magnitudes to his character that after edwin confesses to him, he stops. he stops and he thinks. he’s an impulsive character and we know that from the beginning. but he stops here.

he has never considered men to be an aspect of his sexual orientation, but he refuses to sit here and give edwin an immediate yes or no. it would be so easy for him to say “i love you and you’re my best friend, but im straight and i don’t like you in that way,” but he doesn’t do that. he says that he can’t say he’s in love with him back, but that there is no one other than him on this plane of existence or on any plane of existence that he would ever go in the hell for and that they have forever to figure out what that means.

he says i love you, and i can’t sit here and say that i mean that romantically right now, but you mean more to me than anybody ever has and ever will.

charles rowland takes this scared young boy’s face in his hands, and he says “we can figure this out together.”

he’s not rejecting him here. he’s saying i don’t know if i love you like that, but i love you in every other way and i need some time to think about it, but i might love you in that way too.

and even if i don’t, nothing will ever change how much i love you.

i can’t handle how much they mean to me.

“You hear who’s in the paddock today?” Oscar eyes Lando as he joins the group of drivers. They all look suspiciously giddy.

“No…?” Lando eyes them, It’s Carlos who’s grinning and speaks up first.

“Y/n L/n.” the spaniard whispers.

Lando raises a brow as Alex nods to his girlfriend talking to you, “She’s a super famous singer right? Lily loves her.”

“Very pop.” Charles adds in.

“Very hot.” Franco says as they all turn to him, “What? You were all thinking it.” a surge of jealousy goes through Lando. Obviously he knows people think you’re hot, he’s the fan club president. But Franco saying it makes him want to go over there and kiss you in front of the young driver.

Lando watches you move your hair behind your ear, assessing the little black dress you’ve got on. “Fuck.” is the only think Yuki can say.

“Hasn't she been to a couple races?” George adds, “For any reason or…” Lando wants to yell at them that you’re there for him.

“She’s a fan.” Charles says, “Hangs with Alex in the garage sometimes.”

You wonder if they know how obviously the group is looking at you. You turn and give them a little smile. Most of the guys look away except Lando, who waves.

“What the fuck?” Carlos makes a face.

“Dude-” Max laughs as Lando looks around at the group.

“What?”

“Give up now.” Alex shrugs.

“Excuse you?” Lando crosses his arms over his racing suit, “You think I don’t have a chance?” They all start laughing, “Fuck you, lot!”

Alex grins, “Don’t let netflix hear.”

Carlos slaps his hand onto his friends shoulder, “Mate… she’s just so- and you’re so… it’s not made to be.”

Lando just scoffs, “Don’t pout!” Max laughs, “I’m pretty sure she’s the only girl out of your reach.”

“You don’t know about Nadia?” Alex grins.

Max gives him a confused look but turns back to Lando, except when he does, he realizes he’s already gone and walking towards you.

You smile when you see Lando, he slips his arm around your waist and pulls you in for a quick hug, “Hi.” His eyes linger on you before smiling kindly at Lily.

“I’ll be back, Y/n. Lando keep your distance.” She points to the driver before walking away.

“The guys don’t think I have a chance with you.” He whispers into your ear, his hand still on your waist.

You laugh a bit, glancing at the men who are all staring at you two. “So naive.” he laughs a bit, tilting his head down.

A curl goes into his face and you resist the urge to push it back. “I’m happy you’re here.” this makes your cheeks go a bit pink. Funny, you’ve been sleeping together for months and he can say the tinest thing to get you to blush.

“I’m happy I'm here too. Win for me?”

“What do I get if I do?” His hand backs off your waist a bit, clearly aware of the eyes on you.

You look up at him, his eyes greener than ever, “Whatever you want?”

His brows go up, “Whatever?”

The corner of your mouth quirks, “Within reason.”

“Not much reason between the two of us.” You roll your eyes and back away from him so you’re no longer touching.

“Go run back to your friends and giggle about how a pretty girl kissed you.”

“But you didn’t-” He gets cut off by your lips on his cheek. He’s grinning ear to ear as you walk away, waving a bit.

When Lando walks back to the guys they’re gobsmacked, “Tell me you didn't just meet her today.” Charles practically pleads.

He laughs at their faces, “Have you ever heard the song, bed chem?”

Rumors have been swirling around the paddock this week as summer break comes to a close and the drivers are set to make their return this weekend. Ferrari driver, Carlos Sainz, was caught at the beginning of the break leaving a posh dinner with a mystery girl. Since then the pair have been spotted out at dinner again, in a coffee shop and even driving around in Monaco.

Fans have been speculating that the mystery girl is, Y/N Y/L/N and the most recent sightings of the two in Monaco all but confirms this.

Now you may be wondering - who is Y/N? Y/N is your normal corporate girly by all accounts. Our sources have shared that Y/N met Carlos by chance one night in Australia while she was on vacation and he was out celebrating with some drivers. Not much is known about her - she’s from [home country], works as a [insert job] and has been with Carlos for at least a few months now. Currently all of her socials are private.

Carlos soft launched their relationship via instagram just a few days ago. We have to wonder - will we see Y/N in the paddock this weekend?
