Charles François Jalabert's "Galatée" is a remarkable sculpture that captures the essence of classical beauty and mythological storytelling. Inspired by the ancient Greek myth of Pygmalion and Galatea, the sculpture portrays Galatea, a statue brought to life by the love of her creator, Pygmalion.
Jalabert's mastery of form and detail breathes life into this timeless tale, as he meticulously renders the delicate features and flowing drapery of Galatea. The sculpture serves as a testament to the enduring power of art to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary and to evoke the emotions of love and desire.
"Galatée" embodies the spirit of artistic creation and the enchantment of mythology, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the enduring beauty of this classical masterpiece.

This painting illustrates the myth of Acis and Galatea. The sea nymph Galatea was in love with a young shepherd, Acis. His jealous rival, the Cyclops Polyphemus, crushed him with a stone.
Heartbroken, Galatea prayed to the gods that her lover Acis be transformed into an immortal river spirit, to bathe in every day. Today, a river is named after him near Etna.
