Holy shit I was working on this since late October, and I'm the most proud I've ever been of a picture I've drawn?

Details and graffiti transcriptions below the cut! 'Cause I worked on that shit for like three entire days, and I'll be damned if I don't show off some environmental storytelling word crimes.

So, first we have a couple closer looks of Sasha! Their outfit was pretty fun. I haven't done modern outfits in... probably ever, and it was nice having a lot more references to work off of.

Their sefirot necklace was fun to draw because I have one almost exactly like it. The flannel was the first time trying to do plaid by hand with a new little technique (Base colors+Multiply layer for dark stripes+Overlay layer for light stripes) but it went way faster than the god damn quilt?

All in all, my favorite detail was doing cosmetics, because I got to do little chips missing in the nail polish, and that's probably the first time I've drawn eyeshadow and willingly shown the result! : D

Next we have the little rat family in the background, with the wall-dwelling Rat King peeking through the wall, which is where I did dipped into tracing a couple photos instead of just looking at references.

Generally my process has been doing anatomy lines over a reference, then working off of those for about... three to four layers for body->clothes->hair->Full sketch, then another with whatever brush I wanna do the lineart with (usually a watercolor detail brush from one of two sets on Krita), but I'll note where I skipped that process and committed some art crimes.

The two background rats (Pestis and Mortar) are from a pair of stock photos from Getty, while the one in the foreground (Yersinia) is a mix of a pic that pops up in meme dumps from time to time of a smoking rat and a few bits that weren't in the original image. (Jewelry, the legs that were covered by an ash tray in the original pics, the "Buns and Roses" lighter she clearly stole from Sasha.)

Time for some graffiti transcriptions! Most of the variation in the graffiti came from switching the size of my brush and trying to mix up my handwriting, but there's a few segments where I use a font, then outlined the font with a 2px across brush to make it fit more into the art. Mostly, this was through screenshotting google docs, but some of the fancier fonts are from cooltext.com.

So, the map behind Sasha is made up on the spot, with some inspiration from a map of the Seattle Bay. Kinda proud of just how dirty this fucking place is, but the final, and greatest achievment in making this picture look grimy...

THE RUST

I didn't exactly nail the perspective on some of these (The sketchy layer for the floor grating was done once, then dragged into place and warped with the perspective... and then completely fucked that up) but god DAMN do I love texturing the fuck out of things!

There's like six Multiply layers scattered about because it turned out it's a phenomenal way to make the shading of multiple textures make sense without losing that texture, and I feel so god damn powerful!

Oh, right, the posters.

Not much to say about them. The righthand one was 95% traced from a mafia stock photo, while the hands in the left came from another stock photo.

Honestly, I drew the frames, then had no idea what to put in them. There was briefly gonna be a pic referencing a cosplay photo I have of myself, but eh...

The rats and the guy in the wall were originally referencing a Vampire the Masquerade character I had named Pretty Paulie, who was a mafioso turned nosferatu who dubbed his crew the Rat Pack. I figured if there was some kind of dramatic, Scarface-esque movie about him, he'd definitely find a way to keep the poster nearby, and I wanted to slap in one of those "Give blood!" posters from the Red Cross except... not from the red cross.

I don't really feel like I put in much effort into these (compared to the Graffiti-a-thon with several subplots), but hey... they covered the tile, which before shading was boring and very flat, so they did their job.

I'll leave you with some zoomed in textures, because I do feel proud about those! I make them via a combo of oil paint and watercolor brushes, usually with a whole lot of different coats of varying opacity until it looks like the thing it's supposed to be. :)

I've only just started drawing again this year (I've been editing a looooot longer) so there's a lot of spaces where I have hiccups, but I'm figuring out the areas I do well in.

...Also sweet Jesus this started as me trying to figure out what a character looked like. It says 3 full days worth of editing was done in Krita on this file, and I don't think it's counting the idle time.

I CAVED IN!!!! I wanted to make a sona mostly for meme purposes, I chose Indicolite because Tourmaline is one of my birthstones, and tbh I connect more with that than I do with Opal. I also tried to make them more like my real current body type? Naveen is insane. Play this 4 drop Singer with a decent statline and oh yeah also play Grab Your Sword or A Whole New World or Along Came Zeus for free. Nutty.

Keyword is just Support (meh) but he costs 1 less for each item in play. This will see play in item decks and he might be scary.

This is just shiftable worse Don Karnage, but the art is fantastic.

He also gets a gorgeous Enchanted, which he deserves, just look at him.

Ward, shift 3, gets +1 lore pip for each other The Queen you have in play. This gets more interesting with:

Ward, when you play her, look at the top 3 cards of your deck, put any The Queens from them in your hand, bottom deck the rest. I'm not sure why The Queen is Spiderman meme-ing, but I am intrigued, let's see what this gaggle of girlbosses gets done.

First printed 5-lore character! Gonna be real hard to actually get her on the board, but still love the symmetry of a 5/5/5 for 5.

She's also the prize for store championships next set, with gorgeous art.

WHOSE LIES WERE TOO GOOD TO LAST sorry don't know what came over me. Maybe play in a Puppy deck? Would be amazing if this were in Broom colors but right now there isn't really any (competitive) name-typal deck in Amber.

Obviously intended to bounce his cousin we just saw, but I could see him in a Blurple items deck running him as an extra Tamatoa or Belle.

Welp, Amethyst had to get a good card eventually. Shift 4, when played, exert all opposing characters. This might see play in Amethyst/Ruby, but I think Amethyst/Sapphire might be a more likely candidate, since those colors like a board wipe.

I LOVE HER AND NEED A PLAYSET. Shift 5, at the end of your turn, choose an opponent, if they have more cards in hand than you, draw until you have the same. This is very good card draw, especially against Amethyst decks, and if you can get her out quickly enough, you can get around discard decks as well.

Shift 4, when played, banish an item or location. Notable mostly for being Simba's first Floodborn, he is not going to replace Benja or Aladdin - Brave Rescuer anytime soon, and Steel already has so many ways to get rid of locations.

The passive is nifty, but I don't understand why they keep giving Challenger to higher lore characters. He dies to Brawl, for fuck's sake. Most notable for the story beat, I guess we have different villains trying to fill in the power vacuum left by Ursula?

So first off this is Brainstorm in Lorcana, which will likely see play, second Basil gets hypnotized by Jafar, which is interesting, and third I really hope this means we get a Basil Floodborn in Emerald, and a good one this time!

Here, have 4 extra copies of Mufasa - Betrayed Leader. Also does this mean we're getting a new Mother Gothel card?

I want to like this card, but he dies to Brawl and Daring Visitor, and if your first and second turns are just playing an item and a location and Pacha is your first character, you have just forfeited any board control.

This one is interesting. I like the flexibility, and it's cool that Emerald has been getting these "kicker" cards this set, but the uninkability does hurt her a bit. She may still see play just for how much she can do, though.

What made you ship it?

so... I have a very specific list of qualities I look for when it comes to my favorite male characters. And Grimmjow fit them all 😂💕

When I first watched Bleach the only thing I shipped was IchiRuki, bc naturally that was the only way to go for me tbh, but then Grimm appeared and I was obsessed. When it comes to otps for me, first I find a fave character, then I consider the possible pairings. Not any other way. And with Grimmjow... well the only option for me was Ichigo tbh.

Not to discredit any other Grimmjow ships, I've done a few of them myself, but with how passionately these two throw themselves at each other I truly couldn't look any other way. Lol

So tldr; Grimmjow's got slut potential and I dig that, and they're too into each other for me not to see "gay" plastered all over them 💫

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

Hmmm 🤔maybe how inherently feral it is, canon-wise. Also how harmonious their overall designs are together, there's nothing nicer than a pair that looks good together, at least as an artist. Also how easy they are (for me at least) to write/draw; I have a hard time focusing on one thing for long enough to get good at things (hence the many AUs lol!) so for me to have a ship I draw constantly for more than four years now... is truly astounding lmao. They helped me grow soooo much so they hold a dear dear place in my heart just bc of that alone.

And because of that last one: how easy it is to apply AUs to themmmm ;w;<33333 I can legit think of anything and make an AU out of it and not struggle too much to find the perfect place for them in it.

And also,, sort of fave sort of least fave- that it's not an overly popular ship in general (ik it's popular in the Bleach fandom itself, but rather; not popular like a ship from BNHA or JJK). but also-- it gets verY quiet at times specially for someone who's so picky. Like, if I could find a fandom space like the exclusive bottom Bakugo enthusiasts I followed on twt (and even bought a whole zine about) but for GriMMJOW??? WOOF😭💕 so yeah,,, love-hate situation on this last bit lmaooo

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

A few 😂😭 everyone who's followed my art for a certain amount of time can probs tell how the 'tism really affects how I enjoy ships lmaoooo I have to enjoy them a very specific certain way so... that means I don't partake at all on a good few of the popular tropes for the ship. Some I can think of rn; damsel-in-distress!Ichigo, overly hurtful!Grimm (although this one is more old fandom I think 🤔? I remember, in a lot of fics back then, Grimmjow was portrayed a lot as this violent rapist adgdfddfdff not for me lmaoo), ofc top!Grimm, Grimmjow acting all macho relationship wise, and too much angst (I think this ship (and Ichigo in general lets be honest) can call for a lot of angst in fic so I totally get it- but ...meh, if it's not romaticized/sexualized angst, idc for it adgdfgf I don't like it when they actually suffer 😭)

OOH OH! ALSO --- making them OOC in AUs CAN be great actually (to me at least). I know a lot of people (not just here, but in any ship/fandom/etc) don't love OOC characterizations of their fave characters/ships (hence why it's a tag we use tbh) but I personally love that at times??? I won't do it all the time and all over the place... but AUs where there's space to make Grimm less violent? or Ichigo less friendly/loving??? While still within their canon character potentials--- hecC yes. >:)ccc

Also ofc; that I wish it was still common to tag ships as top-bottom like it is with HoEn/EnHo (bnha), VK/KV /trigun, KRBK/BKKR (bnha) etc or at least tag it some other way along the ship.... it would be sO much easier to filter out stuff i don't want to see instead of having to mute/block a whole person I would still love to see stuff from.

BuT I am aware most have no preference whatsoever lmaO so... yeah nothing I can do there except not follow people pfFFF 😂😭 (and wait until I find peeps with similar tastes aasdfs)

I went a bit overboard haha. Taylor is one of my favorite characters so always happy to draw him and thought the outfit was pretty. Thank you for requesting! After reblogging this Twitter thread earlier, I feel like I'm starting to join the dots with a few things, especially in light of this tag someone left on that post, which kind of blew my mind:

There was a popular post going around very recently arguing for the importance, if not superiority, of subtext, and as can be seen from my own tag rambling on it lol, something about that post didn't sit right with me in relation to queer media.

Queer subtext was all there was for so god damn long, and fandom devoured and embellished every single second of it because that's all there was and we had to be grateful for what we were given so we would be deemed worthy enough to be allowed more. And whilst it obviously still can have its place in media, it feels like audiences are conditioned to prefer it over actual text. And then you get posts almost shaming people for wanting more than subtext and putting it on an intellectual pedestal. As if anyone wanting to see *gasp* kissing and sex scenes and messy, complex queer relationships in all their explicit glory is somehow devaluing the queer experience with such crass displays of sexuality and love and humanity.

Which leads me to yet another popular post about how fandom wants queerness as a cultural performance rather than a lived experience. It loves passing round memes about kinky gay sex and bisexual lighting and jokes about messy polycules and top/bottom discourse and how X or Y much-loved character is secretly a disaster bi. It loves to performatively and loudly tell everyone how totally chill and cool and fine it is with queerness. But then a piece of unapologetically queer media, either professionally or fan-made, involving these things and more comes along, and suddenly, it's tumbleweed and barely anyone wants to seriously engage with it or be publicly seen to support it.

I don't think I've ever felt more validated after reading those tweets from Brandon Taylor about IWTV. Because I've seen those exact attitudes replicated in fandom and on Tumblr these past few years. And they're always dressed up in just enough manipulative language and subtle microaggressions to make you feel like you're imagining things.
