my "im not reading that" list
please note: this is my list with my personal preferences. if you disagree, thats okay! however you will not change my mind. this isn't about good or bad, this is knowing i wont enjoy reading them
stephen king- i really cant do horror and one of his most famous characters shares my name and im just petty enough to care about that sorryyyyy
brandon sanderson- the amount of people who tell me to read his books is hysterical. ive tried mistborn three times. its not happening
neil gaiman- ive read like 6 of his books and 4 were for class please please let me read another author
song of ice and fire- this series sounds so unappealing to me and i also do not want to watch the series.
lies of locke lamora- i am not the target audience for this book, trust me on this
sarah j maas- ive heard acomaf was her best. thats where i ended and ive never looked back
flowers in the attic- no god why no please stop never
wheel of time- thats just too many books for me to commit to and i refuse to be ashamed of this fact
james patterson- maybe if he actually writes a book by himself ill finally forgive him for maximum ride
#lol apparently this is mostly fantasy#this is mostly based on books people rec the most#esp after i say i like notw#and flowers of the attic is on here cause i had to tell a classmate to stop summarizing it#about me#idk if anyone wants to make this a tag game

2024 Reading Wrap Up!
Total: 37
Most Read Trope: Grumpy Vs. Sunshine
Favorite Books:
Seven Year Slip By Ashley Poston: A wonderful romp with a magical apartment, a main character who feels lost and a love interest who can COOK! This was the first book that I'd ever read by Ashley Poston and it is my favorite one of hers. The idea was interesting and the main character's growth from beginning to end was lovely. Not to mention the main character loves watercolor painting and I do too đ€
Lost And Lassoed By Lyla Sage: An enemies to lovers/ grumpy vs sunshine between a woman who loves fashion and feels like everyone else is moving on and grumpy older single dad cowboy who loves and cares about his daughter and his family.- I'm also not going to lie, Lyla Sage writes a whole series in this "universe" and this is her third book. I have been WAITING for her to write this couple since the first book. It was worth the wait. Plus grumpy vs. sunshine has me in a chokehold...
The Paradise Problem By Christina Lauren: A fake dating (fake married) romance where the main character is whisked away to paradise to a destination wedding only to find out that her fake husband's family isn't as welcoming as they seem. This was the first book I've ever read from Christina Lauren (it's a two author team!) and I loved it! I'm hoping to read more for them this year.
Bride By Ali Hazelwood: A vampire and an alpha werewolf are forced to marry for an alliance, but it turns out that it's not as bad as they think. This one was really good. I've read books by her in the past, but this one is my favorite. This one reminded me of all the paranormal romances I read when I was a teenager and it was nostalgic in the best way!
Favorite Re-read:
The Outsiders By S.E Hinton: Told by a 14 year old boy living in 1965 from a poor family who experiences the tension between the Greasers and the Socs in his hometown. I read this book at least once a year and I am still on the look out for a 1965 love story between a soc and a greaser that's a book. đ
Favorite Emily Henry Book:
Beach Read: A lovely enemies to lovers and of course grumpy vs. sunshine between two writers who challenge each other to write a book outside of their genre over a summer and who promise not to fall in love with one another. I really love this one, because it's a little abnormal. Not abnormal, as in weird, but abnormal in the way that Emily Henry fits little pieces into this story that make it more than just an uplifting rom-com. It's real and sometimes a little raw, but it's wonderful. All of her books are wonderful!
Book Written With the Prettiest Style:
The Secret History By Donna Tartt: A loss of innocence and a questioning of what is morality between a group of college students at a New England College. Alright I read this one for the dark academia vibes and it was written well. The style that Tartt writes in is hypnotic and pulls you in. I will say that this book was sad- but it was written well so I can't be mad lol. And also that I knew it was going to be sad from the get go đ. I don't know how many of y'all have read "Paul's Case" By Willa Cather, but she's one of my favorite writers and this book reminded me of that story.
Complete List:
A Touch Of Darkness By Scarlett St. Clair
A Touch of Ruin By Scarlett St. Clair

3. What is the top character you write about?

4. What are your top three pairings?

5. What are the top three additional tags?
Alternate Universe (36)
Kissing (19)
Fluff (13)
6. Does any of this surprise you?
Not really? JatP took over my brain in a way no other fandom has managed to yet. It also happened during a period of life where my energy wasn't entirely drained from work.
A lot of my fics are prompt fills and usually for ships of some kind. The kissing prompts were especially popular. I do wonder how the additional tags would differ if I was better/more consistent with tagging.
Tagging: @bbreaddog, @daintyduck99, @obstinatejules, @ginervacade, @sarah-sandwich

Could you do an analysis of the Mage of Time?
The Mage of Time [symbols: brain, gear]
The Mage class has its basis in the classic court magician. An example would be Merlin from Arthurian Legend.
The Time aspectâs main themes are endings and destruction. You can find its official description here.
A Mage of Time is among those who explore physical existence. This is the âclasspect groupâ they belong to. Members include: the Mage, Seer, Heir, and Witch of Space/Time. These classes are all opposites or inverses of each other that explore the Space/Time dichotomy (physical existence). A description of classpect groupings can be found here.
The Mage of Time actively knows the Time aspect. Active classes tell themselves what to do and do so for their own benefit. They are more likely to stand up for themselves, but more likely to be cruel. Mages and Seers possess great knowledge of their aspect and everything it symbolizes. Simplified, the Mage of Time is motivated by themselves to know endings and destruction.
In personality, the Mage of Time has trouble forgiving their own mistakes and has a strong desire for closure. Personality descriptions can be found here.
Their archetype is the Genius Harbinger, defined by introspection, endings, and destruction. Archetypes are explained here.
Their opposite is the Seer of Space, who passively knows creation and beginnings.
Their inverse is the Heir of Space, who passively manipulates creation and beginnings.
A classpect or âgod tierâ is an individualâs best self. All classpects go through a journey from unrealized, to struggle, to realized. When a character is unrealized, they neutrally exist as their inverse. On their struggle, they will wildly flip back and forth between their inverse and true classpect. In their worst moments they will act as their inverse, in their best their true classpect. When realized, they will stabilize as their true classpect. They will still have room to grow, but will become happier, more successful people.
This means that the Mage of Time begins life motivated by others to manipulate creation and beginnings. When their struggle arrives and they are at their worst, they will continue this behavior in negative extremes. However, when at their best, they will find purpose in instead knowing endings and destruction for themselves. When realized, they will stabilize and continue to know the Time aspect actively, in a positive way.
They share their archetype with the Witch of Mind, the Harbinger Genius.
The Mage of Time would quest on a planet similar to the Land of Thought [Mage] and Time [Aspect]. An example would be the Land of Amnesia and Ruins. An explanation of planet naming conventions can be found here.
Two possible gods, or denizens, to reign over their planet would be Chronos (God of Time) or Hephaestus (God of the Forge). Other Time aspect denizens can be found here.
When the Mage of Time completes their planet quests and dies on their quest bed, they would rise to ascension on the wings of crows (symbols of death). A list of soul animals can be found here.
The characters that I have currently classpected as Mages of Time are:Â Elliot Patterson from Doom Patrol, the Ninth Doctor from Doctor Who, Saxon Master from Doctor Who, Merlin from Arthurian Legend, Sarah Palmer from Twin Peaks, Fenris from Dragon Age, and Yukio from X-Men.
If any of the links not connected to my blog break, the content can be found on my Google Drive.

Random Thoughts I Have Had While Reading Sarah J Maas
I am on chapter 31 of House Of Flame And Shadow. And I have some thoughts about SJMâs worldbuilding. I have read other fantasy besides SJM.
I started reading SJM with the Throne Of Glass series in December of 2016(rough guess). I never read ACOTAR and I donât plan to.
SJMâs worldbuilding. Is it actually better in TOG or is it just that the character relationships and the battle scenes move the story along faster?
Iâm not bored with Crescent City but I am noticing that other fantasy authors and some science fiction authors have better storytelling ability.
Sabaa Tahirâs worldbuilding. And her villains. Everything about Sabaa is wonderful.
PC and Kristen Cast have excellent worldbuilding. And I love that PC and Kristen seem to include Native American themed stuff in a lot of their books.
Cassandra Clare of course has good worldbuilding. I am currently reading Chain of Thorns from her and Swordcatcher is in my TBR.
Maggie Stiefvater has spectacular worldbuilding. I havenât read all her books yet. Iâve only read The Raven Boys series.
Nora Roberts. Again, I havenât read all of her fantasy books. I am on the last book of The Dragonheart series. The male protagonist of the Dragonheart series. I actually like him more than I like some of the CC men.
And where do thrillers fall in the worldbuilding scale? Because a lot of thriller authors use a world that is at least loosely based on the real world. Wayne Stinnett, Stuart Wood, James Patterson(I haven't read all of James's Patterson's books), Wendy Dranfield and Lisa Scottoline all use the real world as a base.
Tom Abrams, it depends on what series. But sometimes he uses the real world. Or sometimes he seems to use a slightly more futuristic version of the real world.
Alexandra Ivy also sometimes uses a more futuristic version of the real world
Jackson Ford is science fiction. I have read all of The Frost Files books, except for the prequel because itâs not available through Amazon. Frost Files, the main character bores me sometimes. But I loved both villains.
K. Gorman is science fiction. I have read all of the books in Eurynome Code and I loved them very much. Especially the fact that K. has LGBTQ characters.
VC Andrews. Iâm not sure if sheâs considered thriller or not. But Iâve read books 1-4 of Flowers In the Attic. And all the Orphans books. I plan to read more of the Flowers in The Attic books when they fit into my schedule.
Iâm not asking for recommendations. I just realize now why readers say that there are issues with SJMâs worldbuilding. And to think I havenât even touched on all the YA, middle grade, and romance and historical fiction authors I have read in my life.

August TBR--
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4271c2154b49838043f72c59d1a9f926/e20882dbc4939ae2-b4/s540x810/786d4381530d1e3421c5e7c488f242013921e325.jpg)
August is going to be the month of SciFi apparently. This is because I was given access to an ARC of the new Murderbot Diaries novella that comes out later this year. Which means I need to speed up my reread of this series. Iâm also continuing with my reread of the Skyward series in preparation for the final book later this year. But Iâm going to try to leave a lot of my reading open for the month so I can have less pressure on myself and the ability to mood read books from my physical TBR and the TBR I have with my library. Letâs get into the books I plan on reading.
1. Fence: Disarmed by Sarah Rees Brennan-- This was sadly the only book in Fence that I couldnât find at my local library so I had to purchase it instead. This book is based on the comics from C.S. Pacat about a group of boys who fence at a boarding school. The comics were great on their own but I had such a good time reading the book that comes before this one. I am sad, however, that this is the last work about these characters that I have left to read.
2. Sunreach by Brandon Sanderson and Janci Patterson-- This is the first novella in the Skyward series. Iâm rereading the entire series in order to prep for the final book coming out in November. This follows Spensa who wants to become a pilot for her countryâs military but her fatherâs reputation as a coward holds her back. This comes after the first two books in the series so I wonât dive too far into the synopsis. I will say that this one follows a secondary character and keeps us in the loop of whatâs happening while Spensa is being a badass.
3. Exit Strategy by Martha Wells-- This is the fourth book in the Murderbot Diaries. You all have heard me go on and on about this series so Iâll keep it short. We follow a SecUnit that has hacked their governor module. They can do anything they want now. But it seems like what they want to do is keep saving stupid humans and keep watching their serials. Murderbot is anxious and socially inept (but who am I to judge really?) and they also keep finding themselves falling head first into conspiracy after conspiracy.
4. Home: Habitat, Range, Niche, Territory by Martha Wells (Kindle)-- This is the only currently published Murderbot that I havenât read yet. This is a 12 page story following Dr. Mensah and the events of Exit Strategy. A human perspective on Murderbot? Iâm interested. Itâs listed as #4.5 in the series so hopefully I didnât NEED to have read this before the full length novel.
5. Network Effect by Martha Wells-- This is the only full length novel in the Murderbot Diaries and itâs still following our favorite SecUnit. If I remember rightly, this also has one of the most heartwarming scenes in the series in it. So Iâm really looking forward to rereading. Iâll probably read this closer to the middle of the month while the other two will probably be read back to back.
6. The Unspoken Name by A.K. Larkwood (Kindle)-- Csorwe has always known how and when she will die. Sheâll climb the mountain, enter the Shrine, and become a sacrifice. But on the day of her foretold death, she is given a new fate from a powerful mage: to become the wizardâs sword-hand--stealing, spying, and killing to help him reclaim his seat of power in the homeland from which he was exiled. From the GoodReads:Â âCsorwe and the wizard will soon learn--gods remember, and if you live long enough, all debts come due.â Letâs freaking go my dudes. I love it. I hope the part about the gods is really about some gods who she has to defeat some how. Iâm excited to throw some Fantasy in the mix with all this Sci-Fi.
7. Moorewood Family Rules by Helenkay Dimon (Library)-- I saw this one on my library app and Iâm really hoping I can get a chance to read it this month. I keep seeing it pop up as available and then unavailable the next day so Iâll have to keep an eye on it. This one was pitched as Kives Out and Oceanâs 8 meets The Nest. This one is about a woman who returns home from prison to her dysfunctional con artist family and tries to get them to go legit. (Okay, is that ringing The Company You Keep bells for anyone else? Just me? Okay.) Iâm excited to see where this one goes. Itâs listed as both a Mystery and a Romance so that could be good, as long as itâs done well.

Knowing I'm a big lover of ecohorror, a friend of mine introduced me to this gorgeous new anthology that's about to hit the shelves. Naturally, I was instantly interested, especially considering I have been longing for some winter forest vibes. Needless to say, this anthology proved to be the perfect choice for my cravings.
The collection features 22 short stories from 22 different authors, offering a diverse take on the subject of northern forests. Each story offers a completely unique perspective on the assigned theme, but they are also complimentary to one another, giving this anthology a unified feel.
If something stands out from this collection, it's the stunning visuals. The authors managed to portray the taiga as a unforgiving wilderness, but also as a place of beauty. There's a lot to admire about the depictions of the forests, especially the feeling of otherness, peculiarity, and divinity, and the stories manage to perfectly convey humanity's reaction to them through the characters. In turn, it's easy to become engulfed in this collection and truly fall in love with everything it has to offer.
Choosing taiga as the main theme for this anthology turned out to be a perfect choice for some incredible ecohorror. The dark, unfamiliar surroundings of the forests define the featured stories and create a sense of unease that stems from knowing the woods hide something people could never truly understand. In turn, the characters are rendered merely as a passive component to the narrative, guided by something much higher than them. It is a grim reality that reflects onto the reader themselves - there is so much that we don't know about nature and its ways. Facing that fact is horror in itself.
This theme ties itself seamlessly into the notion that a singular organism is insignificant on its own, but that it's still indispensable in the grand order of things. While such a thought might seem comforting at first glance, the authors manage to extract its terrible, indefinable truth - we, as individuals, are at the mercy of a greater power, whatever it may be - a god, a species, or nature in itself. People are as important as they are allowed to be, and confronting this belief is utterly horrifying.
On the other hand, there are stories that portray forests as something positive, no matter how scary or different. They are a place separate from humanity, governed by rules often conflicting to those of regular society. This thought inspires many authors, especially those who decided to focus their work on queerness or femininity. In these cases, wilderness offers peace, comfort and safety, but also allows the characters the opportunity to create their own destiny. In these cases, forests signify freedom, and the collection does a wonderful job to highlight its cost, as much as its reward.
While I wasn't equally captivated by each story, they were all quite interesting and offered me something I haven't yet encountered anywhere else. They managed to beautifully portray the relationship between people and nature, and offered gorgeous visuals and gruesome narratives. This collection is a real treat for all ecohorror lovers and a perfect introduction to the genre to all those that are yet to indulge in it.

Get ready for a wild ride with James Pattersonâs latest thriller, "The Chef". This book will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, with its gripping storyline and exciting twists and turns. The story centers around Anthony Costello, an accountant with a talent for manipulating both numbers and people. Costello is found murdered in his own home, and the investigation leads to three suspects: Sarah, his personal chef, Anna, his wife, and Serena, his maid. All three had access to his home and all three women are missing. Are they on the run or have they fallen victim to foul play? Detective Sean Walsh is assigned to the case, and his personal connection to the three suspects only complicates his investigation. Despite the powerful forces working against him, Walsh is determined to uncover the truth, no matter the cost. What sets this book apart is Pattersonâs ability to create fully-realized characters who feel like real people. The three suspects - Sarah, Anna, and Serena - are complex and nuanced, with their own motivations and secrets. As the investigation unfolds, we begin to see the web of lies and betrayals that has lead to their disappearance. Patterson also does an excellent job of keeping the reader guessing. Just when you think youâve figured out the mystery, he throws in a new twist that keeps you guessing until the very end. And if that wasnât enough, "The Chef" is also filled with plenty of action and suspense. From tense cat-and-mouse chases to heart-stopping confrontations, this book is a non-stop thrill ride that will leave you wanting more. If youâre a fan of Pattersonâs previous work, you wonât be disappointed with "The Chef". Time Era Swap AU - Sybil (Sarah Patterson)
When we were led into the courtyard, past the thick, hanging grape vines and sheer fabric canopy, Deaâs benefactor was finally revealed. She lounged on a low bench, lazily picking up a gold goblet as a handmaiden fanned her. The girl looked around my age. Her honey-brown eyes looked to us. âAh, punctual as usual.â she drawled. âWelcome, little mystery.â
âPardon?â
She smirked. âYouâre the odd Thracian Deaâs been prattling on about. Something special, she claims.â Her eyes raked over me, lingering on my slightly curved hip and still non-existent bust. âIâm not sure what that would be from a glace, though. Expected some stunning thing for my eyes to feast upon. They say Thracians are wild beauties.â I shrank back. I didnât like how she looked at me. She took a swig from her goblet. âWell then? Can you not speak? Are you dumb?â
âI can speak.â
âThere we are!â She sat up. âI am Sybil, daughter of Lord Ioannidis. Welcome to our humble home, foreign guest of Thrace.â She tilted her head. âTell me, miss, by what name should my tongue call you?â
I stared at her for a moment. She spoke with a haughty elegance that put me on edge. Still, Dea was my friend and this girl was her benefactor. Maybe she could help me as she was helping Dea. I bowed as best I could, still unused to the motion. âI am Elena of the Zlatariva Clan in Thrace. The Temple of Artemis houses me at this moment at the request of my mother.â
âHelen then.â Sibyl nodded. Though technically not incorrect, I still grimaced at the botching of my name. She stood. âCome! Helios is being cruel today despite the fair wind. Trina, my darling, will you retrieve my tools from the chest?â Her eyes flickered to me. âIâd rather figure out this girlâs mysteries sooner rather then later.â
The handmaiden, Trina, took her mistressâ hand and bowed over it before kissing the fingertips. The intimate gesture sent a shock of surprise through me. âAs you wish, my lady.â She left, neatly plaited red-gold hair flashing into the shadows of the archway leading deeper into the manor.
Dea (Diana) - Elena - Sibyl (Sarah) Â - Talia (Tiera) - Trina (Tyler-Ann)
