Paring: Casey Acosta x reader
Summary: Y/N was one of the happiest nurses, until her brother died in an ambulance collision.
Words: 940
Request: I would love anything with Casey Acosta that man is dreamy 😍
A/N: I was waiting for this one. Also, Theo is the name of your brother in this imagine. Easier than writing Y/B/N.
You didn't have any family aside from your brother.
Mother died after giving birth to you, and father wanted nothing to do with you. You knew that he was still in contact with Theo, even if he tried to hide it from you.
You just pretend that you didn't know. That everything is fine.
"You're early today," said someone beside you, which made you jump. Person laughed, and you immediately knew who it was. You lifted your head while taking your eyes off the patient chart you were filling out. You mostly knew Casey from working together very often. He was also your brothers' best friend, and after he died, Casey has been trying to talk to you more than usual.
"I'm taking an extra shift." I answered.
"Just make sure you don't overwork yourself, okay?" He asked me, looking at me carefully. When he looked at me, I felt strange. I felt a strange feeling in my stomach and felt more calm at the same time. As if all the stress of Theo's death had vanished for a moment.
"Okay, I'll try," I simply said, smiling slightly at him. At the same time, our pager went on, so I passed the patients' chart to the nurse sitting beside the computer as I headed for the ambulance. He sighed again, and he followed me.
"Don't just say you'll try; just be careful." I nooded, but I knew that extra shifts would distract me from all the stress and pain.
"What do we have?" Bloom asked, "Distract me from all the stress and pain.
"Forty-two-year-old man, heart attack," the paramedic told her as they pulled the patient out of the ambulance. I immediately looked at the patient's face and raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"Dad?" I asked. I felt like the universe sent me my father out of spite. Bloom shot an eye at me but quickly sent the man for a vacant position.
I followed them, just to be pulled back by someone.
"Maybe you shouldn't be here," said Lauren, concerned by the situation. I sighed, knowing what she meant. She knew almost everything about me and my family.
"I know he didn't want to see me anymore. But it's my dad." The woman sighed but allowed me to go.
"Dr. Bloom, we have a cardiac arrest," Casey said as we entered the room.
"Adrenalin," the black-haired woman said to me, and I quickly grabbed the syringe and injected the substance intravenously, then put it away.
"Move aside," Casey said, coming with a defibrillator.
I sat by the bed my father had occupied for a long time, waiting for him to wake up. Max was here earlier to bring me some t-shirts and talk with me for a little. He didn't have a problem with me sitting here and not doing my job.
I felt as if somebody was watching me, so I turned around just to find Casey, standing at the counter and looking directly at me. I sent him a faint smile.
"What happend?" I turned around, just to find that my father woke up. "Where am I?"
"At the hospital. You had a heart attack" I explained, feeling as my anxiety started growing more.
"Where's Theo?" He asked, as if he forgotten that he was dead.
"Theo's gone, don't you remember, dad?" I asked. One part of me was hoping that he had some kind of amnesia.
"Y/N?" He asked, squinting to look at me. I grabbed his glassed from the small table beside bed, and passed them to the man. He put them on his nose and finally looked at me. I swallowed, stiffening as he looked me over.
"Of course." He laughed sarcastically. "Why are you even here?"
"I'm working here"
"And why is that?" He asked, getting angrier as he continued to glare at me. "You shouldn't be working here, because it's your fault that Theo is dead. You didn't even try to rescue him!" I blushed out of shame and somewhat of rage at the scene his father was making at that moment.
"Dad-" I tried to explain myself. That I couldn't help him, because when two ambulances collided with each other, not only Max, Sharp, Bloom or Theo suffered. I was there to, lying on the ground and having to look at my brother, who was probably beyond saving.
"It's all your fault, Y/N! It's always your fault!" He screamed at me. I got up so fast that the chair I was sitting in fell to the ground. I quickly left, ignoring the looks on my coworkers' faces.
"Y/N" I heard, but I didn't stop. I opened the staff corridor door and sat down on the stairs, trying to calm dawn. Someone came after me and sat beside me. Just then I felt a familiar scent, and I immediately knew that it was Casey. When he put his arm around me, I started crying.
"It's okay, Y/N." He said softly, stroking my head slowly. "You were very strong. It's okay now" He added, making me cry more.
We sat here for quite a while when i cried my eyes out. I finally calmed down, but he was still sitting with me moving gently back and forth while still stroking my head. He didn't say anything. He was just sitting here with me in silence, slowly calming me down.
"You're amazing, Casey" I said softly, making him laugh a little and kiss my forehead.
"Thanks, love."
"I really love you, you know?" I opened my eyes to see his reaction. He smiled at me and kissed my temple.
"I love you too."

I wonder what the retired riders think about Marc at the moment.
Like imagine, Dani Pedrosa sitting in the KtM facility working, analyzing how Pols bike is doing, keeping an eye on Acosta, Fernandez, Binder and Miller, comparing the data when he sees Marc overtaking Pecco, like he was overtaken by the Spaniard so many times before. He watches him fight his way up the standing and his celebration. He watches Alex pulling up next to him, to congratulate him, like he had congratulated when they were teammates. Does he remember their best races? Their shared podiums? Is he happy for him? Is he getting nostalgic?
Or Jorge Lorenzo being able to actually enjoy Marc's wins and podiums. There is no underlying jealousy that he manged to win instead of him or that he is on the podium when they are fighting over the championship lead. No nagging feeling that maybe one of that risky moved could have caused Marc going wide and losing points. He watches the Spanish hero, the man that has gotten up from a terrible injury, without a worry about his own racing career. He can interview him and finally mean his congratulations. He can finally actually enjoy seeing his home country on top. Especially in Misano of all places.
In Misano where it has always been a home race for Andrea Dovizioso. Did he watch Marc crossing the line and excitingly shaking his head? Did he laugh about him? "After all those years not a thing has changed" Does he remember the pain he used to feel at the sight of Marc's bike being parked at the P1 sign when it could have been him? Or does he forgot about it and moved on and now only focuses on texting Marc a quick 'congratulations 🎉 that was an amazing ride. Truly sick. You deserve it' because he think that he and Marc won't find each other in the chaos of the circuit.
And Casey... Does he watch the races? Some of them are in the middle of the night for Australia. Does he stay awake? Maybe not. So he wakes up, makes breakfast for his wife and children and suddenly the news reporter is at the sport part and he hears that Marc Marquez has won a race after 1043 days and then only took 7 days to secure his 2nd Ducati win. When he was new in retirement, had he been angry? Watching a rookie win races and a championship on a bike that could have been his. And now that Marc is 5 years older than he was when he won his last championship, does he wonder whatelse the used to be golden Honda rookie has up his sleeves at Ducati? Do they all? Or do they not care?
And when Valentino Rossi stands infront of the podium in Misano, trying to only look at the success of his academy, can he really ignore the dancing man who is the focus of the attention? Can he ignore the sun shining as bright as he used to do more than a decade ago? Can he really deny himself to remember the little bit of memory left of from the 2013/2014 Marc, when he was just a happy and successful rookie and Vale could still handle it? Can he really forget the feeling of happiness a shared podium bought them? Does he remember what it was like to stand up there, watching a smiling Marc, hearing his giggle while being the center of their world for just a few minutes? Or is all he feels the rage and betrayal he went through? Maybe he sees the darkness and demons that's hidden in the lights shadow.

if you could typecast the grid as stereotypical americans who would be who? (idk if i'm making any sense) but for example bezz gives very cali stoner energy.
god this one is hard because they are all so stunningly european. truly. american men do not act like that. the jean tightness alone. ummm. okay let’s start with the easy ones
pecco: pecco is from a suburb like three hours from chicago and he tells everyone he’s from chicago. framed bulls jerseys on the wall etc
pedro acosta: someone said baseball player from north carolina and yeah. i can imagine bumping into this guy at cookout. like he’s giving charlotte/macklenberg county. serving gastonia. he went to nc state with my friend thomas and he has strong basketball opinions.
bez: califoniaaaaa you’re right. of the surfer or skater variety… either way he’s in baggy as fuck clothes skulking around outside kicking it whenever he can. eating a sandwich
vale: new jersey. my trashy italian american clown princess
mav: screams boston 2 me
aleix: too european im being real. insane amounts of european. kind of breaking my brain sooo im not assigning him one
enea: gay ass san fran guy with his lil dog. walkin around the castro the dog gets hot. he picks up the dog. gay pride flag in the background. i cheer. he’s drinking espresso that costs fourteen american dollars. that’s like 12.50 euro google is telling me
casey stoner: this bitch is from vermont
luca: right across the river from vale in new york citayyyy… i think he would thrive in an environment where he doesn’t look insane wearing something very elegant and a lil dressier. like you can’t really do that in idk. most of the south or midwest or southwest or— anyways we’re sending him to nyc
jorge martin: i COULD see him hanging out in florida but like slutty florida not trashy florida. just on a beach in miami in the tiniest shorts imaginable with aleix comma also there europeanly. idk
joan mir: LOUSIANA. need to take his pissy ass to the bayou.
jack miller: attended the university of alabama and was perhaps too invested in SEC football culture. i would end this by saying roll tide for comedy but that would make me gag here in real life. anyways
marc and alex. hmmmmmmm. i could see outside austin texas as that seems 2 be hallowed ground for marc lol. alternatively. kentucky. horse boys. this is another hard one i’m open to suggestions here cuz nothin is jumping out at me tbh
franky: seems into mindfulness in a way that is giving seattle. runs a bookstore with REALLY good staff picks. big ass armchairs HUGE used book section that smells good. sitting there petting the store cat in a flannel with the sleeves rolled up. sipping his coffee. works nights at the local bar sometimes. who said that.
brad binder: denver.
#a mix of cities and states alas i am not perfect#PLEASE fellow usa people give me ur thoughts on this quote a few stumped me#motogp#callie speaks#asks#like truly you guys. you get called gay if you’re a man wearing a turtleneck here it is a different vibe.

Bus Stalker
That's the thing about this city Living in New York it was all about different possibilities and a new adventure.
This was one of those new adventures starting your new job at New Amsterdam
Starting your New Job as a Emergency room Nurse. You loved being able to help people and give back to people.
The nerves were starting to take over the butterflies as you sat on the bus on your way to work.
The bus was packed and thankfully you were able to occupy one of the few seats on the bus.
You were jamming out to your headphones when a tall man with a lot of tattoos started walking in your direction.
He was cute af you weren’t gonna deny that. So you moved your stuff and opened up the seat next to you and took out your headphones.
“Hey this seat is open if you know wanna sit.” you said to him
He smiled at you sitting down next to you.
“Thanks I appreciate it.” he said
“Yeah No problem.”
You sat there looking out the window and not trying to stare at him but you felt like a teenage girl happy to sitting next to their crush even thought you just meant the man.
Also that conversion was the most boring one of your life.
Sadden you realized that your transfer was coming up and you were going to have to say goodbye to the handsome stranger.
You got on the transfer bus and thank goddess it was pretty empty. After sitting down you looked up and saw him again. He looked up at you and smiled.
“Mind if sit here again.” he asked you
“Yeah sure no problem.” you said to him, smiling up at him. You wondered to yourself if you should start a conversation with him.
The more you thought about what you should do the more time passed and then you thought against it. I mean it would just be weird right. You didn’t realize how much time had passed because you saw your stop coming up.
He got up at the same time as you and at first thought that was weird but then you brushed it away.
Walking towards the hospital new thoughts began to cross your mind. The butterflies and the nerves coming in as you walked into your new place of employment
Looking down at your phone you realized it was about 20 minutes early so you walked down to the café to get some food.
As you were walking down to the café you saw him again. It stopped you in your tracks you stared at him making sure it was the same guy and of course it was.
He was in the café you were about to go. What the hell you thought why was he here you thought.
This isn’t real like omg what are the chances you thought. Like zero to none. If you ran into him again would he believe that because if the roles were reversed you sure as hell would have probably thought about calling 911.
Walking away your stomach growled so loud and your stomach had other plans and it was to late to go any where else. You kicked yourself for not eating before you left the house.
So you nervously walked over to the café trying to ignore him because you didn’t want to make things awkward. That’s not how your life went because he looked over at your direction and noticed you.
“Hey you following me.” he shouted at you making people stare.
“What no why the hell would i follow you i don’t even know you.” you yelled back at him your cheeks were red hot at this point.
“Sure I know I’m good looking it happens I’m not surprised.” he said back smirking at you.
He then walked away and you thanked god for that because you had no idea how you would respond to that.
So you brought your food and went up to the locker rooms and hurried up and changed and quickly ate.
You looked at yourself in the mirror taking a deep breathe getting excited to start your first day. You walked through the double doors of the ER looking for DR.Bloom to see where she needed you and to introduce yourself.
Looking around you jumped for your life when a familiar voice rang out.
“What the hell man this is just straight stalkerish and criminal at this point.” you heard him say.
Looking behind you at the desk that’s when you saw him sitting in a chair next to DR.Bloom. Why the hell does this happen to you.
“Is this bus girl the one who stalked you all the way here. Man she must be obsessed with you” she asked him and he nodded his head.
The two of them just staring at you and whispering between each other.
Why does this happen to you. All you wanted was a first good day not this.
Walking over to them you went and finally formally introduced yourself.
“Hi I’m Y/N I’m the new nurse here obviously I am not a stalker this is all just a strange coincidence.” You said smiling
“Hi I’m DR Bloom and This is Casey your stalking victim But you probably already know that.” she said laughing.
“He’s gonna show you around sense you obviously wanna be around him .” Dr Bloom yelled laughing while walking away to help with a patient.
Casey walked over to you and you tried to contain the blush you could feel coming up.
“I mean maybe i should keep my distance from you. Don’t wanna end up another victim on your board.” Casey said to you
“Your not even pretty enough to be on my board.” you told him not even trying to hide your smile.
“Ouch that hurt.” Casey said to you and you could tell he was trying to contain a laugh.
The rest of the day went by pretty quick everyone was so nice to you. They also found the stalker story pretty funny.
The time went by so fast and it didn’t even feel like work.
So in the early morning when your shift was over you went to change out when Casey stopped you in the hallway
“Hey so i might be willing to take my chance and end up on your murder board if you maybe wanna go get breakfast with me. Might be better than stalking me to get to know me.” He said smiling at you.
“I can’t make any promises that this ends well for you but it could be fun. But I wanna pick the place.” you said to him
“Sure that way if you do murder me they know you there.” he in such a serious tone.
You both bust out laughing after he said that and walked out to the bus together. New York you thought a place of great adventures.
A/N: I Hope everyone loves it there is not enough screen time and love for Casey he deserves it I love this man :)

Comforting Casey On FaceTime
“I miss you so much,” you rasped, pushing back the tears in your eyes.
“I miss you more, babe,” Casey grinned. FaceTiming you was the highlight of his day.
During the height of the pandemic, all medical staff was either quarantined in the hospital or in nearby hotels that doubled as shelters.
As much as you missed your husband, you knew that his coming home could risk your life as well as your daughter, Isabella’s.
“How’s Bella?” Casey asked. The bruises on his face and dark circles under his eyes concerned you beyond belief.
“She’s doing okay, she misses you a lot. Bella, honey! Daddy’s on the phone!” you yelled across your apartment.
Suddenly, you heard a loud shriek and your five-year-old daughter ran into the living room quick as lightning.
“Daddy, daddy!” Bella squealed, climbing up onto the couch then onto your lap.
“Hey, babygirl. I miss you,” Casey said, his voice choking up.
“Daddy, when are you coming home?”
“I don’t know, sweetie. When more people get healthy,” Casey tried to explain.
You had tried to explain COVID-19 to your inquisitive little girl before, but a widespread pandemic was hard for a child’s brain to comprehend.
Suddenly, you heard a beep from Casey’s end.
“I’m sorry baby, I gotta go. Stay safe, okay?” Casey said hurriedly, as you and Bella waved goodbye.
When your screen went dark, you realized your heart was racing. It was so hard, worrying about your husband 24/7. You couldn’t even imagine how hard his job was right now.
“Is daddy gonna be okay?” Bella asked, looking up at you expectantly.
“Daddy will be fine, baby,” you assured, praying that you were right.

Father of the twins
Imagine : Casey's fiancée finds out she is pregnant and is afraid to tell him the truth.
Olivia stared at the white sticks lying in front of her on the cabinet by the sink. The results on each of them were not expected, they both hadn't planned on it. They'd never talked to Casey about it. He was busy now because of what was going on at the hospital. He worked sixteen hours at a time on his call and it was also common for him not to come home. He would sleep in the hospital for a few hours, take a shower, and move on to work. He loved his job and she couldn't blame him. He sat on the tub and she stared at a single point in front of her. She had no idea what she was supposed to do in this case.
- Babe - Casey shouted from the bed.
- I'm coming - she breathed.
She washed her face with water, hid the pregnancy tests as deep as possible in the cupboard and went out to the bedroom. Casey was lying on the bed with her back against the headboard and staring at the TV on the wall.
- Do you think we should be afraid of what is happening in the world? - she lay down next to him.
He pulled her to his side and kissed her temple.
- I don't know - he shrugged - We'll see how it all unfolds.
- I have to call Max and make an appointment for a checkup - she breathed.
- What's going on? - He looked at her and furrowed his brow.
- No - she shook her head quickly - routine as usual.
Casey reached for the phone, dialed the number for Max and handed her the device.
- Can I help you ?- a voice on the other end spoke up.
- Hey Max - Olivia smiled slightly - could you find an hour for me today?
- Is it serious?
Max knew Olivia like no one else. He had to know his little sister, he could sense the uncertainty and maybe a hint of panic in her voice.
- Sis?
- Routine check-up.
- Can you come with Casey to the hospital? I'll find time to examine him and talk to him.
- Sure, thanks - she hung up and put the phone on the table - I'm supposed to come with you to the hospital for a shift.
- We'll have to get going soon - he looked at her - but first I'll find time for my fiancée.
He leaned over to her and kissed her, gently at first. After some quick sex, breakfast and coffee, they set off for the hospital. Which was located four blocks from their apartment. The emergency department they entered exceptionally seemed very quiet.
- Why do I get the feeling this is the calm before the storm? - Casey muttered under his breath.
- Oh - Dr. Bloom smiled - get ready to be fucked as usual.
- I'll go change - he smiled slightly.
- I love you - Olivia kissed him on the lips.
- I love you more - he kissed her on the forehead and headed for the locker room.
- How sweet - Lauren smiled - you could get sick.
- Oh, jeez, woman - Olivia rolled her eyes - do you know where Max is?
- He's in his office, taking a break. What happened? - She furrowed her brow.
- Does something have to happen right away? He's my brother and I want to talk to him.
- Mhm - she nodded.
Olivia rolled her eyes and headed for Max's office. The director here, she greeted the passing doctors. They knew her and all too well, Iggy joined her in the hallway.
- Your gait makes me uneasy, what has Max done this time? - he smiled.
- I'll surprise you, this time it wasn't him.
- Then who did? - He scratched his chin.
- Iggy I really don't feel like doing your psychological analysis today. I'm not up for it, I've got other things on my mind.
- What does he mean by other? - He furrowed his brow.
- Iggy leave my sister alone - Max stood in the doorway of the office - don't torment her as usual.
Iggy raised her hands in a defensive gesture and walked away leaving the siblings alone. Max led her into the office and closed the door behind him. When he turned around he saw tears appear in his sister's eyes. He pulled her to his body and hugged her tightly, only then did Olivia start sobbing. She was shaking in her brother's arms, unable to contain herself. He stroked her back with his hand wanting her to calm down. After several minutes, she pulled away from him, wiped away her tears, and smiled slightly.
- I can't remember the last time you cried, what happened?
Olivia sat on the edge of his desk, playing with her hands. Max walked up from her and stood between her legs. He took her face in his hands and looked into her eyes, searching them for the solution to her condition.
- I think I'm pregnant - she finally let it out.
Max stood still for a moment, staring into her eyes.
- I'm so happy - he hugged her tightly - It's unexpected, but it's a reason to be happy.
- Can you do a blood test for me? I want to make sure before I tell him.
- Come on - he grabbed her hand and pulled her close.
30 minutes later.
- This waiting can kill a man - Max muttered under his breath.
- You can't tell - Olivia stared at her hands.
- Hey, he grabbed her hand. It's gonna be okay. Casey will be happy.
- We got engaged, but we never talked about kids. I don't know how she'll react, I don't know if she wants kids.
- I'm sure she will love this baby as much as she loves you, but if she doesn't then remember I'm with you. I will always be there for you, no matter what happens.
- Thanks - she smiled slightly.
- I'll be honest - the nurse left the room - Max is counting on your support of our initiative for such quick results.
- Of course - he nodded taking the results.
He looked through the papers for a long moment and a smile appeared on his face from ear to ear.
- I'll be an uncle - he laughed - my dear, congratulations, you're pregnant. But...
- Oho if there's a but, it doesn't sound too good.
- The results suggest that it could be a twin pregnancy - he furrowed his brow - you're very high in hCG. That's why we need to do an ultrasound if you want to be sure.
- I have to tell Casey first, she wants him to be there for the scan.
- I'll call Bloom and have her send him over.
- Thanks - Olivia sat down on the couch in his office and hid her face in her hands.
A few minutes later, the office door opened and a panicked Casey rushed in. As soon as he saw her he rushed to her, dropped to his knees in front of her and pulled his hands away from her face. Her tears almost broke his heart, he had never really known her cry.
- Baby - he muttered softly.
- I'm sorry Casey, I didn't plan this. I don't know how it happened - she lowered her gaze.
- Hey, honey - he lifted her chin gently - what happened?
- I'm pregnant - she whispered uncertainly.
Casey took a moment to understand what she had just told him. He moved over to her and kissed her. Just like this morning, he put his hands around her cheeks. He pulled away from her after a moment, staring into her confused gaze.
- You're not angry? - she whispered.
- Honey, why would I be angry? - He furrowed his brow - I want to start a family with you, to raise this child.
- Children - Max said.
- What? - He furrowed his brow and looked at him.
- You did such a good job that you put two kids in it - he smiled - probably.
He covered his mouth with his hand laughing out loud and stared at his fiancée.
- I love you even more - he kissed her again.
Olivia smiled at the kiss, now she was finally at peace. She knew she had the people she loved by her side.

Little Book Review: Sammy Keyes and the Curse of Moustache Mary
Author: Wendelin Van Draanen.
Publication Date: 2000.
Genre: Mystery middle-grade fiction.
Premise: Seventh-grader Sammy Keyes and her squad opt to spend part of winter break with their friend Dot, whose family has moved to the country to open a plant nursery. Naturally, Sammy ends up in the middle of a century-old family feud involving murder, arson, and an honest-to-God meth lab. She also enjoys the company of Casey, a cute eighth-grade boy who happens to be the brother of the dreaded Heather Acosta. Is this the start of another generations-spanning vendetta? Probably not, but it's still awkward.
Thoughts: While there is some good material in this installment, particularly the nascent romance between Sammy and the very likable Casey, this is easily the weakest book in the series so far. I found the cornpone shenanigans of the rival families tiresome; there is far too much business involving a massive pet pig. I'm willing to put that down as a matter of personal taste, but there was a more serious issue involving the origins of the family feud that soured me on the rest of the book. Early on, the matriarch of one of the families tells Sammy about her ancestor Moustache Mary, an East Coast widow who disguised herself as a man while traveling with a group of pioneers to California. Her true identity was discovered when a Native American trader deduced that she was a woman, decided that she was an "evil spirit," and ratted her out to the rest of the pioneers.
There are a lot of problems with this story, so I'm just going to address them chronologically. First, the unexplained ability of the trader to suss out Mary's true identity, which she'd successfully disguised for months on the wagon train from people she was living close to, smacks of the racist "magical indigenous person" trope. Second, the trader is made out to be silly and backwards, to an extent that none of the white pioneers are; they're hostile to Mary once they find out the truth, but they don't think that she's an "evil spirit." This is an even nastier stereotype. Third, while it's impossible to know the exact views of a Native American man (about whom nothing is known except he was a trader who lived in Missouri during the last half of the nineteenth century) towards a white woman cross-dressing for practical purposes, it seems unlikely that his views towards gender would be more rigid than most nineteenth-century white Americans. Fourth, the whole thing just seems unnecessarily stupid and mean-spirited. You have one indigenous American character in the whole book, and he's a generic superstitious dick. And there's no reason for any of this to happen! Mary's identity could've been discovered a number of other ways, or left completely up to the imagination without hurting the story. Again, it's just a paragraph of the book, but it put me off in a huge way.
Van Draanen's attempts to tackle drugs and alcohol don't quite work, either, although I can't fault her intentions there. Sammy and her friends end up going to a big party attended by middle and high school students--Sammy to retrieve a lost skateboard, her BFF Marissa at the invitation of her crush--and Sammy is alarmed when she sees that kids are drinking beer and smoking weed in the backyard. For the rest of the novel, she refers to the backyard as "the edge of the world," and she worries that Casey is friends with some of these people. There shouldn't be any problem with this. I, too, am alarmed by the idea of middle schoolers drinking booze and smoking weed. I don't think it's a good thing for high schoolers to be doing those things on a regular basis, either. And if I had walked into that kind of party in seventh grade, I would've been knocked for a loop. It's just that Sammy has spent four books interacting with sleazy characters, hanging around sketchy locales, getting blackmailed, stealing a van, pulling pranks, fighting, and generally being a little bit of a delinquent. Obviously her peers getting drunk or high hits closer to home...but it doesn't, really. No sympathetic character--not Sammy nor her friends nor Casey--drinks a beer or even feels tempted to do so. If there had been a little bit of that, I would've bought Sammy's consternation. Hell, if Van Draanen wanted to keep her good guys away from drugs and alcohol (understandable in a middle-grade novel), it would've worked for Sammy to go, "I don't like Heather, but I'm honestly worried about her--she's obviously out of her depth." But no. As things are, I think that Sammy would just think, "This party is dumb and gross, I'm leaving" and not give it much thought otherwise.
Hot Goodreads Take: "Yeah, so I totally figured this mystery out early on in the book. Mostly because I (apparently) recognized the basic ingredients for meth before I was even thirteen." In contrast, I apparently retained no memory of the meth lab.
#little book review#sammy keyes and the curse of moustache mary#wendelin van draanen#racism#anti-indigenous racism#drugs#the copy i got from the library also had a hideous cover#like ms paint but more charmless#plus it was literally dirty#i tried not to factor that in but it didn't help

A, G, O, and X! I would love to see your otps!
Thank you so much for the ask!
A - Your current OTP: Varigo (from Varian and the seven kingdoms/seven kingdoms au). What can I say? The ship just immediately sucked me in and now, well, here I am ass deep in varigo hell haha G - Do you remember your first OTP, if so who was in it: I think the closest I can get to remembering my first OTP is Sammy Keyes and Casey Acosta (from the Sammy Keyes series). All I know is that I shipped them hARD (before I really knew what shipping was since I was like nine or ten at the time) O - Choose a song at random, which OTP does it remind you of: I stand alone (from the movie Quest for Camelot)...Varigo. I’m sorry, but Hugo just gives off so many Garrett vibes and I can totally see Varian as Kayley. And also, whenever I watch this scene from the movie I can’t stop imagining Kayley and Garrett as Varian and Hugo, it just fits too well and all I have left to say is I would kill to see art of this au X - 3 OTPs from 3 different fandoms: Klance (Voltron Legendary Defender), Caleo (PJO/HoO), and Wesper (Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom)

You Saved Me
Authors Note: This story was inspired by the scene above ! :)
Working in the pandemic you thought you hit your breaking point. You loved working as a Paramedic being able to help someone in their worst moment and make it a little better.
Also the job had its other perks to that’s where you meant your boyfriend Casey.
He was a nurse at New Amsterdam in the ED. The moment you saw him you thought damn that man is hot.
Ever since then the two of you had been inseparable.
He was never the one to show affection at work but at home that was a different story. He was so sweet and caring and funny.
Things were going so good between the two of you. That was until now the pandemic had taken a toll on the both of you and your relationship.
It was harder than ever to not bring home the stuff you both dealt with at work.
Before you felt like you just took it off and was able to separate it. Now it was all over the television and taking over your life.
There were a lot more deaths and heartbreaks.
You always held someone’s hand and looked them in the eye and said ``It's okay I’m with you and now you couldn’t do any of that.
You both had to quarantine away from each other. Both working in high risk places neither of you could risk bringing something home.
You both longed to hold each other’s hand to lay down next to each other again. You both missed each other.
You two started fighting more and yelling about the littlest thing. The longer you two were apart you weren’t sure anymore if it was temporary or permanent.
Finally towards the end of the year things finally started to settle down and you were happy because you could finally come home.
Casey had other plans though he thought it was too soon; he only wanted to keep you safe. But he didn’t come out and say it. He didn’t wanna worry you.
So on your daily Friday night date night in the park getting food truck food together you brought up the topic again.
“Cas hey come one I want us to live together again I miss you It’s time we can take precautions before we come into the apartment how much longer are we supposed to go on like this” you said placing your hand on his gripping it.
“Babe I love you we can’t though I don’t wanna risk you.” he said giving you a sad look
Getting mad you got up and walked away you couldn’t go on like this anymore you loved him and you missed him it killed you being this apart from him.
You didn’t even see him get up and followed you. He grabbed your arm and pulled you to see him and look in him in the eyes.
“You saved me and you still are if I didn’t have you I don’t know how I would have gotten through this year without you.” he said to you
“Look I want nothing more to be able to move back in with you and be able to come home to you but truth is I’m scared if anything happened to you because of me I wouldn’t forgive myself.” he said avoiding eye contact with you.
“Look I’m scared all the time but we can take precautions. Things are settling down and I miss you. I wanna be able to come home to you.” you said, taking your hands and cupping his face.
He leaned down and kissed you and you kissed him back. Pulling away he whispered to you
“I’m so ready to come home.”
