something about the central greek and trojan women surrounding the trojan war is so fascinating, like-

Helen | Hesione: both ripped away from their homes, their identities erased, stuck in a foreign land, unable to return despite those dear to them wishing for it - except helen's suffering and longing for home has an end, she gets to go back home.

Penelope | Andromache: both wives of great heroes, who lost their husband when their son was but an infant in their arms, both women who spend much of their life waiting and longing for their husbands to return to them - except andromache's never will, penelope gets everything back at the cost of her youth, but no matter what andromache sacrifices her family won't return to her.

Clytemnestra | Cassandra: both women whose deathes were caused by agamemnon, who was the reason for the death and destruction of something so dear to them, both women who are doomed by the narrative - except Clytemnestra had her semblance of peace, her semblance of victory, staining her hands with the blood of the one who took from her.

lrb i agree the iliad is one of the funniest books ive ever read but also their point abt background npcs having their entire backstory explained to us and then dying two pages later is like. the point is that those npcs are people who had lives and families and homes to get back to but because theyre dying in a war (that isnt even their own) they dont get to have those anymore. so no, i dont really think its fair to call those descriptions unnecessary. they add depth and tragedy to smaller characters that you wouldnt glance at twice otherwise

Lions & Men is a WIP 10-episode show that reinterprets the Trojan War into a sci-fi setting

MENELAUS: No, it's fucking not okay! Helen just ran off with some little man-whore from Troy! She can't do that to me! He can't do that to me! Who do they think they are? I'm a fucking king of Sparta! I'll rip his head off! I'll kill him! I'll kill his whole family!

AGAMEMNON: Whoa, whoa, take a chill pill! Yeah, that fucking sucks. Total bullshit, I hear you. I'd be mad, too. But dude...Troy? That's all the way across the ocean. It's not exactly a day trip.

MENELAUS: I don't care! He deserves to die for taking what is mine!

AGAMEMNON: And say you make the trip, then what? No one's going to let you in if you stand there at the gates screaming about ripping off heads.

MENELAUS: He took my wife! The most beautiful woman in the world!

AGAMEMNON: I know, I know, Helen's crazy hot. But there are lots of gorgeous women in Greece, and you're Menelaus of Fucking Sparta, bro. You've got girls falling all over themselves for you. Take your pick. Shit, take two or three!

MENELAUS: To wife?

AGAMEMNON: To bed, dude! Your wife ran off on you with little pissant? Her loss! This is your chance to go wild! Forget about fucking Helen.

MENELAUS: ...are you drunk?

AGAMEMNON: Oh, totally, for sure. It's this new stuff from Crete, you gotta try it.

MENELAUS: You're not even taking this seriously!

AGAMEMNON: I'm just saying. Would you rather spend the next couple years sailing and fighting and pitching some giant hissy fit, or would you rather stay here and have some fun?

MENELAUS: ....pass me the wine.

Day 4: Business ft. Odysseus trying to get home after a long business trip

(Everything for this month will be very quick and not rendered most likely! So please take my doodles <3 )

Business AU:

Hiii back with more AUs! This AU is heavily based off this post, so I’ll only do a small rambles

Odysseus has gone on a business trip with his coworkers, and he’s heading home to see his son and wife :D

The universe is not on his side.

The lotus eaters are drunkards, Aeolus is the check in agent who Odysseus has to come back to because there were problems with the check in, Poseidon is the airlines who delay the flight, cancel the flight, he has to rebook it for a connection, get soaked in the rain in the new airport, connection flight gets delayed because of the rain, Charybdis is the baggage claim that eats his baggage, Calypso is the TSA agent that locks him up in a holding cell for hours, etc etc

His coworkers are: laughing (Achilles), concerned (Menelaus), confused (Diomedes), feels so SO bad for him (Agamemnon)

He’s been calling Penelope and his coworkers this entire time, giving updates and whatever
