I hereby curse Aqua with driving in every universe✨
Ok so fair warning. I was not a Percy Jackson kid, so in preparation for this I went and tried to consume as much of the series as possible. I can now firmly say that I’m obsessed with the wider implications for this AU and how certain characters will be fitting into it.
However...due to LORE RESTRICTIONS...i cannot fully explore it yet...
So that’s a long winded way to say I’ll definitely be revisiting when more lore allows me to make more interesting pieces .
be sure to check out my partners in insanity @clovedown & @captain-cappie

❝ I was drawn to all the wrong things. ❞
STATS:
Name: Charlie Jackson
Age: 37
Face Claim: Casey Deidrick
Occupation: Professional fisherman & owner of Drunken Seagull
Relationship Status: Single
Gender & Preferred Pronouns: Cis male & he/him
BIOGRAPHY:
As the first born Jackson, just himself and his younger sister, life in Mount Pleasant had been nothing to complain about for Charlie. His parents were laid back. They worked hard but taught their children the importance of enjoying life. It wasn’t meant to be slaved away with mundane just to get by. Education was important and a foundation, and his parents always projected that if he and his sister did well in school then they would have the freedom to grow and experience what they wanted on their own. Of course their parents would always be there if needed but they understood that growing up meant learning through experience and finding what boundaries worked for them. Charlie has no complaints about his childhood. As an average B student he enjoyed time with his friends and adventuring whenever and wherever he could.
It was his father that taught him how to fish and from that young age it had become a life long passion. A pleasure and a sport that would take him through life. Especially the older he got, more competitive he became, and as his skills grew Charlie was able to travel around the world and be apart of fishing expeditions and competitions he never would’ve thought possible. As a professional Charlie won tournaments everywhere and became ranked worldwide. No fish was too big or too dangerous. With being a sports fisherman came a great responsibility to do so humanely and respectfully. Early on in his career Charlie joined foundations that worked on cleaning up, protecting, and saving the oceans. Saving the whales. Conservation became almost as much of a career as did fishing. Balance was what he learned most.
In his early twenties Charlie had moved to Marshall Island and used some of his earnings and notoriety to set up a local bar, Drunken Seagull. To him in made sense, even if it was a little tongue-in-cheek, but it was mostly him being proactive and looking ahead to the future. The older he got the harder it would be to maintain a lifestyle of traveling around for sport. Especially since he’s always held dreams of one day having a family. He’d considered opening a restaurant, a seafood restaurant, but then he had to be honest that he really knew nothing of what that would entail. There was also consideration of enjoyment. Drinking came with the territory of fishing, especially if you were just out with friends or enjoying the solitude on your own, a beer was usually a companion and apart of the mix. Hanging out and chopping it up with others was something he enjoyed, so again, Charlie made something of it.
A couple of times Charlie got close to settling down. To those dreams of having a wife and a family. But for whatever reason they never truly came to fruition. Either he couldn’t slow down enough to be as present as the woman in his life wanted or there was simply too much drama and a lack of trust. His values are simple and perhaps a little too old fashioned and after finding himself wrapped up in girlfriends that wanted to play too many games, he decided to keep to himself and not date until someone came along and truly changed his mind. Though, now he’s beginning to think he’d turned his emotions and romantic feelings off a little too far and now there’s just no turning back. He’s perhaps even convinced himself that he’s not really actually missing anything.
When his father and best friend passed away, Charlie got on his boat and didn’t return to Marshall Island for a year. The loss and grief he felt turned him even further inward. He traveled all the way to New Zealand and stayed for quite awhile. Mostly he explored and tried to let nature heal him, then he found himself helping others fix their boats and taught people how to fish and it was through those interactions that he started to feel more like himself once again. It wasn’t so much that he was ready to come back when he did, Charlie had just received the news that his mother wasn’t well so he came home and moved her into his house. He takes care of her and takes care of his business. And that’s the life he’s content with these days.

‘Baddies are my new type’: Mathew Baynton on Ghosts, Wonka and wicked villains
He is about to say goodbye to his role in beloved spectral sitcom Ghosts. But dastardly turns in Wonka and the a festive Agatha Christie drama suggest the actor’s future is bright – if somewhat nefarious
“I feel like I’m moving into really wanky territory now,” says Mathew Baynton, looking a little anxious. We are talking about Ghosts, the much-loved comedy about a gaggle of spirits consigned to spend the afterlife in a crumbling country mansion, which Baynton co-writes and in which he plays a deceased Regency poet. After a triumphant five seasons, Ghosts officially breathed its last in October – except there’s now a Christmas episode on its way. (Last year’s Christmas special drew 5.9 million viewers, making it the BBC’s biggest comedy of 2022.)
When I ask Baynton what it is about Ghosts that struck a chord with viewers, he worries he might sound pretentious. “But here goes,” he says. “I have learned that, as a writer, you don’t always know what you’re writing. There are the quite boring times where you have an idea and it comes out as you imagined, and there’s no mystery in that process. But when it’s exciting, you have an idea and it leads you to places you don’t expect.”
With Ghosts, he and his co-writers initially imagined hundreds of spirits haunting Button House, which would have allowed them to tell different stories with a new set of characters each week. “But when we looked at the taster tape we made, we all went: ‘Hang on, there’s something much richer here,’” Baynton continues. “We realised it was a show about people being stuck together, potentially in eternity, and how they find ways to get along. All of which is to say that I’m enamoured with Ghosts too because, right from the get-go, we had absolutely no idea what it would become.”
Baynton, who is 43, is talking from his study at home in north London where he lives with his partner, the film historian and film-maker Kelly Robinson, and their two children. He is self-effacing and thoughtful, choosing his words carefully and, at intervals, wondering if he could be expressing himself better. “I think it’s partly the writer in me,” he says, “but I do come away from conversations thinking how I’d like to rewrite things I’ve said.”
As an actor, Baynton has cornered the market in ultra-sensitive men who walk a fine line between pathos and silliness. Along with his lovelorn poet in Ghosts, there was his turn as a Victorian psychiatrist in 2017’s Quacks, who masterminds a new treatment for patients called “talking”; his lute-playing bard in the 2015 film Bill, about the early life of Shakespeare (“London is not going to know what hit it!”); and good Samaritan Sam in The Wrong Mans (2013-14), which he co-wrote and starred in alongside James Corden.
But this winter heralds a new set of projects that Baynton has dubbed “my Christmas of villainy”. In Murder Is Easy, based on the Agatha Christie novel about a spate of killings in a sleepy English village, he plays a doctor who, he says, “is an awful person with some very awful views”. Next year brings A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, based on Holly Jackson’s bestselling YA novel, in which a young true-crime enthusiast investigates a five-year-old murder case; Baynton can’t reveal too much, although he confirms his character is a far cry from the puppy-eyed romantics for which he is known. And in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel, Wonka, released in cinemas earlier this month, he plays the devious Fickelgruber, Wonka’s Brylcreemed rival in the confectionery business.
youtube
Baynton can’t account for this sudden pivot into treachery beyond the fact that “a few [casting directors] had the same idea at the same time … Acting is strange like that. You do one notable thing early on and you are put on a track that for 10 years that can be hard to get off. Perhaps baddies are my new type.”
Wonka was co-written by his friend and Ghosts compadre Simon Farnaby (who also co-wrote Paddington 2) and was filmed at Warner Bros Studios in Hertfordshire. For Baynton, it “felt like you were with the same kids but in a plush playground … Even though you’re working with this huge Hollywood star [Timothée Chalamet, who plays Wonka] and you’re on a set that probably cost the same as an entire series of Ghosts, it’s still a comedy with a big heart, so for me it felt like home.”
Baynton and Farnaby first came together on the set of Horrible Histories, the anarchic children’s sketch show that recreated history’s most ludicrous and bloodthirsty moments, alongside Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond. Shortly after it finished its decade-long run, the six of them wrote the madcap puppet comedy Yonderland, largely because “we couldn’t bear that we weren’t going to get together for more mucking about in front of the camera”. This was followed by Bill, and, four years later, Ghosts. They have even given themselves the collective name Them There, mostly for production credits, though “no one actually calls us that”. Aren’t they more Britcom’s answer to the Brat Pack? “I don’t know about that,” Baynton says, bashfully, “though it depends on which of them you think I am.”
The youngest of three children, Baynton grew up in Southend on a diet of sea air and his dad’s Monty Python cassettes. He reckons being lowest in the pecking order at home contributed to his desire to perform and be noticed. In his teens, he went through a morose period during which he was overtaken by self-consciousness, but then he discovered theatre via a production of Bruno Schulz’s The Street of Crocodiles by Theatre de Complicité “which moved me to tears in ways I couldn’t understand and ignited something in me. I knew I wanted to be in that world in some way.”
Baynton went on to drama school, where he studied directing, but when he got there he realised acting was his calling. He spent a summer as assistant to Cal McCrystal, then director of the physical theatre group Peepolykus, who pushed him to join in with improv games. Later he went to Paris to study under the renowned clown Philippe Gaulier, which cemented his love of slapstick. Upon returning home, McCrystal gave him his first break on the stage in a production of Joe Orton’s Loot.
But it was Horrible Histories that really opened doors for Baynton, both as an actor and writer. On being offered the job, he nearly turned it down, fearing that he might get stuck doing nothing but children’s TV, but his agent persuaded him to take the job by telling him: “No one will see it.” In a talk last year at the Oxford Union, Baynton remarked how, were they making it today, they would do certain things differently, such as not using white actors in tanning makeup to portray Egyptians.
youtube
“I think it’s important that we examine where the line is [around portrayals of other cultures],” he says now. “It’s a murky area where intention sometimes doesn’t match reception. Certainly, no one had bad intentions making Horrible Histories and none of us at that time, in the culture as it was, hesitated and thought: ‘Hang on, maybe I shouldn’t play an Egyptian.’ But times have changed and I would hesitate now.”
If the odd Horrible Histories sketch hasn’t aged well, it is worth observing the sensitivity and inclusivity that runs through Ghosts. Baynton notes how throwing together characters from different historical periods allowed them to “highlight wrongful attitudes and interrogate how they had arrived at them. At one point, there’s a gay wedding at Button House and [the ghost of] Lady Button is appalled and goes on this journey in which she faces her own homophobia. When we were writing that story, it felt like I was having a conversation with my homophobic nan.”
Baynton is content moving between acting and writing, not least because “if I’m between acting jobs, it means I get to dream up new projects for myself and my friends”. Keen to avoid any signs of egotism as his career soars, Baynton keeps his feet on the ground by recalling the “pure dystopian hell” of his time as a school leaver working in a call centre. There, every second of the day was monitored and he was once upbraided by a manager for taking too many toilet breaks. “So when I’m on set in a scratchy costume or I’m feeling a bit tired and thinking what a terrible time I’m having,” he says, “I remember that time, and what a privilege it is do what I do.”

Whumptober 2024: No. 13 - Team as a Family/"Death Will Do Us Part"
Title: Reasons To Live
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Characters: Jack O'Neill, Samantha Carter, Teal'c, Daniel Jackson (SG-1)
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
Word Count: 901
A/N: Welcome to another addition to Whumptober, Day 13. We are back in the world of SG-1. I don't believe anybody on this blog has any idea what Stargate is, but I enjoyed writing this one nonetheless. Cheers!
Summary: Jack O'Neill finds a new purpose in his team after the loss of his family.
Cross posted on AO3 under user wrestlinginjeans.
There are moments in life that stay with you, no matter if you want them to or not. That was how life was, a summation of hundreds of thousands of moments, snapshots in time. The scenery and people may change as time moves forward, the life of the individual evolving too in a dizzying display. But some people would always remain constant through it all and that was what made it all worthwhile.
Jack O’Neill had joined the Stargate program at the request of the Air Force. He had thought it would be for one mission, a one off and then he could go back to living his normal life. If you could call what he had been doing “living”.
It had been three months since Jack had lost Charlie. Three months since his wife had left him, overcome with grief and heartbreak over losing her only child and in those three months, Jack could do nothing but blame himself. He had lost everything in this world that mattered to him, and he only had himself to blame.
So, when two airmen showed up at his door, requesting for him to come with them to Cheyenne Mountain and back into action, Jack had agreed to it on the stipulation that it was only for one mission. He hadn’t elaborated further, and nobody had asked. They didn’t need to know that he expected this mission to be his last because he didn’t intend to come home.
But then, he had met one Daniel Jackson. A man, passionate in all things with a childlike wonder that made Jack’s heart ache. Daniel was just so kind, so good on a fundamental level that Jack had never seen before. Daniel had been Jack’s first reason to keep on living.
After Daniel, Sam Carter had come along. A brilliant astrophysicist, she became the light in his life, burning brighter than any star that she had ever studied. Her feisty nature, cultivated over the years as she fought to ascend the ranks in a still male dominated military had made her perfectly suited for a place on his team. Sam Carter had become Jack’s second reason to keep on living.
After Sam had come Teal’c. The former First Prime of Apophis, the Serpent God, Teal’c’s stoic and unwavering presence had been essential to Jack finding a purpose again. While it had been rocky in the beginning with convincing the Air Force that Teal’c was a valuable asset and not the enemy, that his ideals aligned with theirs, Jack would have done whatever it took to keep Teal’c with them. He would have gone to the ends of the Earth and beyond to secure Teal’c place and he would do whatever it took to succeed. Teal’c had become Jack’s third reason to keep on living.
Truth be told, he would fight with all he had for any member of his team. Not because he was their leader, but because they had kept him whole. They had given him a reason to keep fighting, to live for all those that he had lost but also for his found family in front of him now.
Jack nods his head slowly as he brings himself back to reality, walking back into the clearing that they had made camp in. He nods towards Teal’c to his right, currently standing watch as the other two members of his team sit around the small fire that they had constructed. Daniel was scribbling away in his journal as he sat bent over, trying to catch the light from the flames close by. Jack couldn’t help but smile, wondering what on earth Daniel could possibly be writing about as he approached, dropping the bundle of branches that he had in his hands onto Daniel’s lap as he passed, causing the younger man to start at the interruption.
“Jack!” He sputters, sending a glare his commanding officer’s way.
“Relax, Danny Boy. I was only trying to save your eyesight… And your back.” Jack says, the smile remaining on his face as he takes a seat next to the younger man.
Jack’s eyes find Sam then, digging through her rucksack and pulling out the provisions that they would need to prepare their field rations for the night. Sam flashes a smile at Jack when she feels his eyes on her, tossing a ration to him across the fire that he catches easily.
“Your turn to cook, sir.” She says cheerfully, the smile remaining on her face.
At Jack’s nod, she stands and walks away to check on Teal’c. Jack’s eyes follow her, taking in the two now standing close to the tree line before falling back on the seated man next to him.
Jack had lost his family in 1995, but with loss there was always the opportunity for something to be found. Jack had found a family in this team, this ragtag group that had been brought together from a variety of circumstances. Daniel had lost his parents as a child and was on a quest to reunite with his wife, Sha’re. Teal’c was on a mission to free his people from Apophis. Sam was on a journey of discovery, her thirst for knowledge only quenched for a moment before she was off on another research project.
Jack had found a purpose in Daniel then Sam then Teal’c. Together, they were SG-1 and SG-1 was Jack’s home.

So, with the fandoms not requested for the AU event, I kind of divided the AU’s and the fandoms as I wanted to. And since I thought it would be kind of fun to kind of sort characters in a different way from a fandom I really love (and have recently rewatched all the movies of), I decided to write a Percy Jackson AU with The Mighty Ducks characters, just sort of figuring out which cabin and which God/dess they’d have as their parent!
Starting off with the obvious place to start, Cabin One. That cabin has only one occupant, the sole child of Zeus at Camp Half-Blood. That child is Charlie Conway because honestly, I do believe that’s the one that best fits Charlie. Children of Zeus are known to be natural leaders with strength and bravery, though they tend to attract a lot of monsters. We see, all throughout the three movies, that Charlie really is not only a natural leader, but a really solid leader that can manage, at the best of times, to truly inspire those around him but even at the worst of times, can still make people pay attention to what he’s saying. He’s also shown bravery several times through the movies, even though he does get targeted for a lot of crap and general growing pains, much like children of Zeus are magnets for trouble (like monsters).
We’ll skip right over Cabin Two, since Hera had no mortal children, and move onto Cabin Three, Poseidon’s cabin. Much like Zeus’s cabin, there’s only one occupant in Poseidon’s cabin, Ken Wu. Ken as a son of Poseidon makes sense to me, with the children of that God really being known for cleverness and battle skills, like Percy in the books or Theseus in the myths. And I feel like there’s quite a few hints throughout the movies that Ken is actually quite good at strategizing, at figuring out plays and moves that will work so translating that over, I feel it fully fits cleverness. While he’s small and was scared at first, Ken also was shown to not only learn how to throw down but to embrace those chances to fight, fulfilling the other big quality for Poseidon’s children.
We’re going to skip Cabin Four, since Demeter doesn’t have a child among this lot, and move right onto Cabin Five, Are’s cabin. There are two sons of Ares in this cabin. First off is the obvious one, Dean Portman. Portman’s shown right from the start in D2 as brash and kind of a goon. He likes fighting, he kind of gets a kick out of people finding him scary. He’s shown to be incredibly brave and protective of those he cares about, but prone to violence and anger. The second son of Ares, despite his small size compared to his other siblings, is Peter Mark. Much like Portman, Peter’s brash, rough and tumble. He’s harsh, with a big attitude and a short fuse. Again, much like Portman, Peter’s not afraid to speak up or to do what needs to be done, showing a sense of bravery characteristic of all of Are’s children, but out of the two of them, Peter is the one who is prouder of his reputation for anger and violence and the one more likely to pick fights just because he can.
Moving right along to Cabin Six, Athena’s cabin. There are two children of Athena in the cabin, both very different people…but both share the characteristic’s of Athena’s children – very intelligent, eager for knowledge, great planners who give solid advice and who aren’t above using tricks to get what they want. The first one is pretty easy to guess. It’s shown in the movies quite clearly that out of all the Ducks, Julie Gaffney is very serious about her studies. She genuinely wants to learn and takes grades and academics seriously. She’s quick-witted and book smart, with a cool head on her shoulders. However, like all other children of Athena, she’s also not afraid to ‘go to battle’ and will fight, physically and mentally, for whatever causes she believes are just. The second child of Athena is one that I don’t think many would assume would be put in this cabin – Russ Tyler. Much like Julie, Russ is an extremely intelligent fellow. He was shown in D2 to have street smarts and a cool head, a quick wit, and an ability to plan for what he wants. In D3, it’s shown that on top of that, Russ actually does care a lot about his academics, that he’s serious about learning and getting every advantage he can get. It’s also shown in that movie that he’s really good at giving solid, dependable advice, as he’s actually really clever and observant and is good at figuring out solutions or advising as to the best course of action.
We’ll skip Cabin Seven and Eight, as there are no children of Apollo among this group and Artemis is an eternal maiden. So, the next cabin we focus on is Cabin Nine, Hephaestus’ Cabin. Children of Hephaestus are great craftsmen, strong individuals who can be a little gruff and intimidating, but are strong, well liked and respectable. There are two children of Hephaestus in this cabin. I’m starting off with the slightly unexpected. I firmly do believe that Connie is a daughter of Hephaestus. I have it pretty firmly in my head that Connie is someone who loves hands-on work. She wants to get dirty; she wants to work with her hands and build and create. She loves crafting, yeah, but she’s also someone who would totally be up for helping with renovations on a house, for example. She’s shown throughout the movies to actually be really strong, to the point where Averman calls her the Velvet Hammer. However, she’s also very friendly and charming, and seems to be well-liked by almost everyone who meets her. The other camper is Fulton Reed. Big, solid, and strong, Fulton embodies everything that a son of Hephaestus should be. I also have always headcanoned him as being really good with his hands. Book learning has never really been up his alley, but he’s surprisingly creative and a quick learner when it comes to working with his hands and various tools. The weapons he makes are highly sought after in the camp and he’s notorious for being unbeatable in Capture the Flag if he’s wielding one of his own weapons. But on top of just that strength and creativity, Fulton’s been shown to be a really generous, respectable guy, right from the very first movie. While he might resort to violence a little too easily, he’s always the first to stick up for the little guy, to put his neck on the line for them. Protective and genuinely good-hearted, I think that, like Julie, Fulton’s kind of someone that other people just like and look up to a little.
We’re onto Cabin Ten, Aphrodite’s cabin. Surprisingly, it’s not that full, with only two campers. Tammy Duncan is, to me, most definitely a daughter of Aphrodite. She’s a huge girly girl, someone who loves make-up, skincare, beauty routines, all things feminine and cutesy. She lives for silly gossip and drama, as well as talk about romance and who likes who. However, while her pretty face and love for all those things would lead most to just dismiss her as a shallow, vapid girl, Tammy’s a lot more than just a pretty face. She’s not afraid to break a nail punching someone who angers her; she’s also got surprisingly hidden depths as the Camp’s best chariot racer. The other camper, Luis Mendoza, is a son of Aphrodite with all that that brings. People who meet Luis find it hard not to comment on what a good-looking boy he is, but he’s a good-looking boy who comes across a little bit…vapid. Like there’s not a lot going on up there. Don’t be fooled though – while he’s charming and more than a little bit of a Casanova (what can he say…he’s truly in love with love itself, as befitting his parentage), Luis has a lot more going on in that head than he lets on. An extremely observant person, he’s quick to learn other people, to figure out what makes them tick, what makes them happy, what buttons to push to get them to give him his way. However, he doesn’t often use that talent of his for anything negative, honestly. While he can be a little manipulative, there’s really not a bad or mean-hearted bone in this boy’s body.
Cabin Eleven is, as always, the fullest. The cabin is always busy, and its residents normally are too, being adventurous, clever, fun-loving, just a little hectic, and delighting in pranks and general merriment. Lester Averman is definitely the most well-known of Hermes children and he’s the Counselor of the cabin. While Averman might not be the most handsome, the strongest, the bravest, or the most talented, he is extremely clever. Quick-witted and very sociable, Averman is oddly charming and impossible to dislike. His mischievous nature and wise-cracking mouth can get him into some trouble at times, but he can almost always talk himself out of it, getting the other guy laughing along with him instead of beating him up. I also see Tommy Duncan as one of those rare cases where siblings don’t necessarily share the same godly parent, as I would put Tommy, whose main priority is having fun and keeping people happy, as a child of Hermes. Lastly, there’s Dwayne Robertson. Quirky and charming, with a ready smile and laugh, Dwayne can charm the pants off of you. And he’s got quick, agile hands…hands that are normally full of stuff that he really shouldn’t have been able to get ahold of. His natural ability as a thief is rarely ever put to serious use though as, while a little bit of a showboat and a little gregarious, Dwayne actually has a strong moral compass and very defined ideas of right and wrong.
I do think that, while the only occupant of Cabin Twelve, there’s no other place for Goldberg. This boy is undeniably a son of Dionysus. Like his father, Goldberg’s actually really good with plants…and even more to the point, I really do feel that no matter his age, with his sociable nature and fun-loving attitude, Goldberg has a tendency to be a bit of a party animal. An extrovert to the extreme, he needs those large gatherings, he needs those get-togethers, he needs the excess and the fun and the high of being the center of attention, of being the ‘good time guy’.
Next up is Nemesis’ cabin, Cabin Sixteen. In a weird twist on how mortals and Gods normally end up dating, Nemesis actually stayed with the mortal long enough to have two of his children, about a year apart. Both Jesse and Terry Hall are children of Nemesis. They both have chips on their shoulders, and are both quick to remember any insults, real or imagined. They have tough attitudes and have no problem getting revenge, but at the same time, they have very strict ideas about right and wrong, and they aren’t actively bad people. They believe in balance and think that it’s not okay for anyone, even themselves, to get a big head. If people do, of course they should bring that person’s ego back down to the correct side. That being said – Terry and Jesse? Excellent guys to have on your side because, while their caustic words may sting sometimes, they are actually really loyal to those they care about and make the best allies.
Moving to another cabin with only one camper in it. Cabin Seventeen, Nike’s cabin, is occupied solely by Adam Banks. Nike is the Goddess of victory and victory is always what Adam is after. Like most of Nike’s children, Adam has a real competitive streak to him. If he’s going to play, he wants to play to win, he wants to give it his all against opponents who are also giving it their all and he wants to come out on top. Losing is not something he handles easily, and he’ll often push himself to rather extreme limits. Adam has the drive, the determination, and is so willing to put in the hard work but sometimes he forgets that it’s okay to relax as well.

MOMMA’S WORDS REOCCUR TO ME:
growing up in cleveland mississippi meant that leaky had access to the only grammy museum outside of la. but really it meant that leaky grew up with humble beginnings, in a one story house that was full of love, laughter, and inspiration. andre and adelaide wright had been high school sweethearts, with andre giving up his dreams of being a full-time musician when they found out adelaide was pregnant, to then instead be the town mechanic. she was a nurse, he a mechanic during the days and blues musician at night, and though life was hectic. it was good.
leaky was taught all the necessities by his father, piano, bass, basic mechanic skills. he wanted his son to be well-rounded and thrive in the world. to build him up. and, like every southern town, high school football became the heart of the wright household. and early on they discovered that leaky was talented. he was good, he had promise for the future. and that he had.
so between practices, gardening, picking on his younger siblings, jamming with his father, and everything else in between, leaky looked at the future with hope, with optimism. and it seemed promising.
junior year of high school, leaky committed to alabama for football, full-ride, tight-end. play time wasn’t promised for him as a freshman, but nick saban personally mentioned his name for future championships. and to make everything better, his best friend jackson and girlfriend iona were accepted their senior year. they had plans to make tuscaloosa their home.
SURRENDER TO THE GOOD LORD: (tw death)
his freshman year was exciting, and a bit overwhelming. the golden boy of the town lost his way, getting caught up in the culture of college and partying. jackson, iona, and him were having the time of their life. and sure leaky wasn’t playing as much as he wanted, but it was enough for the time being.
and then tragedy struck, beginning of second semester of his freshman year, the three of them had been out one night, leaky felt he was on top of the world. but soon it fell into darkness, he remembered sliding into the backseat of the car, pressing a sloppy kiss to iona’s neck, and the next thing he was waking up in the hospital receiving the worst news of his life. jackson and iona were dead.
and then things continued downhill, ogden had attempted to recruit leaky as well, and reached out with a new offer. full playing time, full ride, and a fresh start. leaky couldn’t turn it down. it might be kissing his chance of the nfl behind, but he couldn’t turn down the stellar education ogden was offering him.
so after finishing his freshman year, leaky moved to portsmouth, summer training and all, began his life at ogden, this time taking a side role in his life. no longer the big fish in a small pond like his life in mississippi, he found his place easily. but he doesn’t talk about his freshman year, he doesn’t visit home, and though he seems to be a vibrant and stellar young man, he holds his cards close to his chest.
AND HE’LL WIPE YOUR SLATE CLEAN:
leaky is enjoying ogden, two years in he’s making friends, a star player, doing what he can. and yet there’s a nagging guilt, of not going home when he knows his family misses him, of not visiting iona and jackson’s families, of moving on. but he can’t face it, not yet. maybe one day he’ll be able to return home.
in fact that was the original plan, after his education, to return to cleveland and continue to build up his beloved city. like his father, leaky let’s his passions stay that way, it’s easier to keep the creativity without the pressure of it all. and instead he chose environmental science, something he hopes to be an asset for his community. leaky grew up gardening with his mother, and shares a deep love for the environment, and figures this is the best way to move forward.
GREER:
the two were casual friends. he’d see her at parties, and at school events. it’s hard not to notice the golden girl, especially with how visual leaky is on campus, always involved with an event or being seen in the advertising for the school. they got along fine, having friendships that crossed-over. he never knew her really well, but he respected her enough and enjoyed her presence. whenever she needed help or had a favor, leaky was more than ready to aid a hand. though it never seemed the two got below a surface-level friendship (to those who witnessed them anyway).
THE TRUSTY SIDEKICK:
you need a wingman? leaky is your guy. he’s charming and pleasant and can talk anyone up. need a favor? leaky is there easily fulfilling it as if it’s nothing to him. the guy is a confidant, a hype-man, a volunteer, he can transform himself into whatever you need and it never seems to bother him. and despite being a gifted football player, and smart guy, and seemingly everywhere on campus, he doesn’t steal the spotlight. he’s not the one you think of when you think of ogden, he lets others take the popularity, the jealous looks, the whispers. despite always being there, you might sometimes overlook him, maybe because he’s always there. but he seems to be a good guy, always offering a kind smile and nod of his head on campus, willing to help tutor you in math, and then lets you have all the glory when you ace the test. it almost seems like leaky is making himself out to be the pedestal that everyone sits on. the support that uplifts the hero, and yet still disappears in the crowd, never seeking glory for himself.
extra:
previous tasks found here
he’s always wearing a jacket because he can’t stand the cold
he wears a gold chain that was given to him by iona, he never takes it off
junior year recap:
found a note/torn out paper seemingly about greer during the haunted house
got drunk for the first time in years at the new year's party - holds guilt for penny ending up dead
found a bloody glove when looking for firewood
g told him to find penny's file in the dean's office
broke in with link and took a picture of it - haven't told anyone else
g put nova and leaky together before the rave and gave nova hints about leaky
surprisingly didn't sustain any injuries during the fire
logan confronted him afterward about the text she received about him
stayed in town for the summer to work at a farm and garden, left a few times to visit sassa

Poetry, arcane, candlelight <333
poetry - honestly i'm not really sure what i'm doing with my life (well is anyone really?) but i'm thinking something psychology related as that's what i want to study at uni. idk, maybe i'll end up being a therapist or something haha. and i'm not very far along the journey as i'm still right in the middle of my gcses (save me), but i know i'm taking psychology for a level at least.
arcane - i have a tendency to project onto characters in media haha. i've been watching a tv series called the good doctor about a doctor with autism and i really like it so far. it's not a perfect portrayal of autism (because not everyone with autism has the same experience) but it's nice to see a character i can relate to on tv (as i also have autism :) ). it's a lot better representation than a lot of other autistically coded characters on tv (sheldon cooper - why did they have to make him so misogynistic?? -_-)
also charlie spring. he reminds me of both myself and a couple of my friends (they need hugs)
candlelight - i'm not sure if i could choose a favourite book honestly - i go though a lot of phases of being obsessed with different book series. i used to read a lotttt as a child, but then i got a phone and my attention span vanished :(, and i don't have time to read much anymore because i procrastinate hw.
i love percy jackson and all of rick riordan's books because of the lgbt representation - they helped me figure a few things out about myself :). also mythology is cool. i plan to reread all the series after exams when i have the time. my school is doing percy jackson the musical next year as a school production and i'll probably end up doing technical theatre for it :D.
i also had a massive his dark materials faze when i was younger. it lowkey became a personality trait. we got to study it in school though which was pretty cool.

sumi how would you feel if one of the characters in mbcd got to meet you?
i would be excited and horrified because I don't know how they managed to become real. But m secondary reaction would depend on which character
Jackson: I would instantly die. Just immediately melt or turn into dust. I don't think I could handle meeting him. he was created to be too perfect for my tastes and cannot be left alive in my vicinity.
Wenna/Gilbert/Shannon: So much incoherent giggling and screaming. I would talk to them for hours
Charlie: i would give him so many hugs and kisses simply because he's the most adorable guy ever
Thomas/Brian: maniacal laughter. I would study them

Definitely noticing three main weaknesses of the Percy Jackson show compared to the books. Gonna be a bit critical of the writing after watching the first seven episodes.
They already know every obstacle to some extent when they encounter it. They are suspicious at Aunty Em's (who then reveals immediately that she's Medusa), Echidna reveals herself before attacking, they find out it's Hephaestus' theme park as they go in, they suspect the Lotus Casino as they enter and realize the memory and time issue early on, and they already know about Procrustes before going to him. This is all disappointing because it completely changes the tone of the original story, and removes a lot of the mystery and tension, turning the story into "we know Greek mythology so we already know what will happen, good thing we studied" instead of "we were caught off guard and need to think on our feet to get out of this situation." It's their first quest and they already have experienced foresight.
Information about very important and pivotal events is revealed quite early on as well, either earlier than they happened in The Lightning Thief or the entire series. Grover finds out that Percy's mom is alive before they leave for the quest, changing how Percy experiences the situation, and also revealing that Chiron was keeping this information from him which entirely changes our perception of his character. Luke, Annabeth, and Grover all talked about Thalia to Percy relatively unprompted early on, giving us the impression that it wasn't as hard for them to talk about as it was in the book, and lessening the emotional bonding moment of sharing that information that the book had led up to. This was especially apparent when Annabeth started talking about Luke's mom, which wasn't even something she knew about in the books, and was a huge reveal and plot point in the fifth book that was supposed to come out of nowhere after we had already seen Luke's actions.
The humour. Oh my god the trademark humour was sorely missing, and it was tangible. The show unfortunately reads just like any other live action show made for a streaming service from the past decade and it could have really taken more directly from the books to stand out as a Percy Jackson story. I did not really find the show funny, which is also disappointing. It didn't completely lack humour, but it was significantly fewer moments and wasn't anything particular to write home about.
There were a few other issues, as well as some things they did really well, but I found these three things in particular incredibly distracting and not really excusable just by being an adaptation to another form of media. I think these three issues are all just due to the writing mainly and could have been done differently.
What I did like for the most part was the casting. Some of the gods were a bit odd but it can work, I think the monsters were pretty solid, and the campers are especially good. I wish Grover had been a bit older, but I LOVE Aryan so it's a good sacrifice. Walker, Leah, and Charlie are also perfect. Dior is pretty good, I think she plays Clarisse a lot differently than the books, but I'm assuming most of that is the writing and directing, and it's not necessarily a bad change, I think her version of Clarisse is very interesting to watch and I'm excited to see her in a more central role next season. Chiron, Mr. D, and Sally were also perfectly cast, no notes except that I love Jason Mantzoukas and this was my favourite casting choice of the show.
The set and visual effects were also great. I know camp wasn't entirely accurate, but it was GORGEOUS and cohesive. Love the changes that they made, REALLY love the Hermes cabin especially. I believe they filmed (partially?) in Vancouver, which is typical. The camp looked VERY much like the BC coast, but nothing else popped out to me. The Poseidon cabin was really different, but I liked the atmosphere it gave, so that's another plus. Interested to see what they do with it in the future when we see Percy spend more time there. I think they could have used a little more physical effects in the show overall, but it's fine. Some of the underwater effects with the nereids stuck out as odd and I don't think they will age well. The Underworld was hugely impressive though! They nailed the atmosphere and really made it feel huge and unsettling. Also gotta give props to the costume and props departments, subtle at times but really effective and fit the visuals of the franchise well. The bolt was different but not bad.

Chapter 51
Chapter 51
Ariadne Jackson weaved through traffic on her Kao Stinger motorcycle in the muted early morning sunlight. The horizon was littered with skyscrapers, but one stood out among the others. It was a five-hundred story black eyesore. Squared-off and cruel; a brutalist masterpiece.
Ariadne pulled off onto an exit ramp marked "Red Light Ave." She passed by massive, angular casinos, performance halls and brothels. Fast food joints were strewn across every intersection. Ariadne parked her bike at one such eatery, near to the base of The Monolith.
As she approached the entrance to the restaurant, a figure caught her eye. Leaning against the wall with a mischievous grin was Joeyson. He was a character like no other, with a dyed-green mullet and dressed in a mismatched array of colorful clothing. He seemed to exude energy as he approached Ariadne.
"Hey, hey, hey! Look who's here, Ariadne Jackson herself! Long time no see, babe!" Joeyson's voice was animated, almost manic, but there was an undeniable charm in his eccentricity.
Ariadne smirked, recognizing Joeyson despite his wild appearance. "Joeyson, always in the heart of the action, huh? What brings you down here?"
Joeyson gave a theatrical bow. "Just doing my thing, you know? The streets are my playground, and you, girlfriend, are a player worth watching."
Ariadne chuckled, shaking her head. "Alright, Joeyson, what's your angle this time?"
"Ah, always so perceptive," he said with a wink. "Word on the street is you need some firepower, and Joeyson knows just the guy. Follow me, babe."
With a playful swagger, Joeyson led Ariadne through the maze of bustling streets, taking her through narrow alleys and hidden corners. Finally, they arrived at a nondescript door tucked away in a dimly lit alley. Joeyson knocked twice, followed by a specific rhythm, and the door creaked open just enough for a pair of eyes to peek at the two of them.
"What's the password?" a gruff voice asked.
"Starshine," Joeyson replied, his voice confident.
The door swung open, revealing a hidden den of weaponry. Guns of all shapes and sizes adorned the walls, and the air was heavy with the smell of gunpowder. A man with a scarred face and a patch over one eye stood at the counter, eyeing Ariadne with suspicion.
Joeyson stepped forward. "Don't mind her, Charlie. She's cool, trust me."
"What can I do for you?" Charlie asked, his tone gruff but professional.
Ariadne got straight to the point. "I need firepower. Heavy weaponry, if you've got it. I'm up against some tough adversaries, and I can't afford to be outgunned."
Charlie studied her for a moment before nodding. "Alright then, follow me."
He led Ariadne to a hidden room at the back of the den, filled with an impressive array of experimental plascannons. Ariadne couldn't help but feel a rush of adrenaline as she scanned the arsenal.
"Take your pick," Charlie said, his tone business-like. "You got gold?"
"Yeah," laughed Ariadne, "I got gold."

Top 10 favorite books of any genre
I've been tagged by @garnetrena, thank you very much!
A Study in Scarlet - Arthur Conan Doyle. Sherlock Holmes is one of my greatest loves in literature and my favourite fictional detective. While I think The Hound of the Baskerville or The Sign of Four are better, I chose A Study in Scarlet where it all began, where Holmes and Watson meet and come to live together and know each other. I enjoy this book very much!
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Roald Dahl. Ask me which is my favourite child book, this one is the first on my list, even though I only discovered Roald Dahl when I was a teenager. I can't tell you how many time I have read this book. It's such a comfort book to me.
Angel Time - Anne Rice. If you ask fans, it's not Anne Rice's finest works, I don't think a lot of people even know about this series and I can understand why, however I love this book and Anne Rice's angels is exactly how I see them, and I love the main character's dynamic with his angel.
Dracula - Bram Stoker. I couldn't make a list of my favourite books without vampires! Dracula was my very first introduction to fictional vampires and it quickly became one of my favourite books. I have yet to see an adaptation which makes justice to Bram Stoker's masterpiece.
L'Aiguille Creuse - Maurice Leblanc. Of course Arsène Lupin would be in this top 10. I really enjoy reading Lupin's adventures but my favourite is L'Aiguille Creuse/The Hollow Needle. I admit Isidore Beautrelet is one of the main reasons why I love this book so much.
Interview with the vampire - Anne Rice. Another book with vampires. Who is surprised? This book introduced me to Anne Rice's works and, most of all, her Vampire Chronicles series. I enjoy most of her books but IWTV is my absolute favourite, also because this is the only one where Louis is the main character and I love him so much ^^
Archive des Anges - Alix de Saint André. Another book with angels! Archive isn't a novel but a documentary (for lack of better word) about angels (what do they look like, what do they do, when were they created, how many are they, etc). It's very interesting and very funny too!
Le Petit Nicolas - Sempé & Goscinny. Another children book series I enjoy very, very much. It's very funny (ofc it has been writen by Astérix's co-dad) and entertaining.
François le Bossu - Comtesse de Ségur. The countess of Ségur's books are part of my life since my childhood. Most of the books I got were my mother's who got them from her own mother. I enjoy most of her books, though some part of them are... quite problematic let's say, but I have a lot of fondness and nostalgia from them, and this book is one of my favourites.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - J.K. Rowling. My favourite book of the series! I know some people won't be happy I put HP on my list, considering how problematic JKR became and I'm not supporting her views, far from it. However I can't deny HP left a big impact on me and was an important part of my teenaged years. This series got me to read again and to write and it helped me through dark times, so I can't ignore the place HP had in my life.
It was difficult to choose only ten. I also wanted to add: Percy Jackson, A Man and his Cat, And Then There Were None, Jurassic Park, Good Omens, Salem's Lot, Prince Gambit, Après la pluie le beau temps,The Iliad, The Spook's Apprentice, Treasure Island, Cirque du Freak, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Romeo and Juliet, ... but I chose the most impactful ones, the books I read the most, the books who left a big impact on me.
Tagging: @flo-nelja, @saemi-the-dreamer, @naehja, @andersssandrew, @alle-ni, @tia-heights, @fenix-estrafalario, @modocanis, @crvdematter and @istadris if you want to :)
(If you follow me and wants to do this meme, even if I haven't tagged you, please go ahead!)
Top 10 favourite books of any genre
There’s likely one of these already circulating somewhere but I’ve not seen one yet so I thought I’d start one.
Tagging (no pressure whatsoever): @richardsthirdnipple, @mejcinta, @bohemian-nights, @mercedesdecorazon, @gwenllian-in-the-abbey, @aifsaath, @dangerouswinnercandy, @daylander1000

What would you say is each of your characters’ greatest strength and most fatal flaw?
Whew! This is gonna take a while...
Carewyn Cromwell
Strength: Empathy. She's never had trouble putting herself in someone else's shoes.
Weakness: Perfectionism. Carey-bear has WAY too much trouble asking for help or even being open with others about how she feels, and because she's under the impression that she both can and therefore should meet her ridiculously high standards for herself, when she falls short, she berates herself endlessly.
Jacob Cromwell
Strength: Passion. For as brilliant of a mind as Jacob has, when he is behind something or someone, he's with them 150%. It makes him incredibly dedicated and knowledgeable about his diverse schools of interest as well as deeply loyal to the ones he loves.
Weakness: Rage. Jacob has never learned how to control his temper in a constructive manner, and so when he loses it, he goes off the friggin' deep end and can be shockingly violent in the name of protecting the ones he loves or in the heat of anger or grief.
Erik Apollo
Strength: Fearlessness. Erik is rarely afraid or intimidated, and even if he is afraid of something, he's brave enough to face it down without question or hesitation anyway.
Weakness: Pride. Erik doesn't handle disrespect or condescension gracefully -- he won't hesitate to either physically or verbally smack you around, if you do.
Anastasia "Ana" Read
Strength: Intelligence. Ana is a very worldly person despite her introverted nature, thanks to how many books she's read and how deeply she's studied multiple subjects.
Weakness: Romanticism. It took a very rude awakening right before her wedding to Charlie Copper to realize how much she'd idealized her absent father John Read her entire life, putting him up on a pedestal and blindly making excuses for him just because of how much she wanted him in her life.
Farid Sikander
Strength: Compassion. Farid strongly believes that no person or creature is inherently evil or undeserving of love and understanding, so he won't bat an eye before rushing to take care of someone else, whether they're some random stranger or a fire-breathing dragon.
Weakness: Pacifism. Farid forgives grievances committed against him way too easily, and it's made it so people have walked all over him in the past, knowing he'll accept any inconvenience they might put him through just to keep the peace.
Jackson Knightly
Strength: Natural charisma. Jackson has always been able to charm others, but it's not superficial or skin-deep -- it comes from his genuine understanding of what makes people tick and his sincere desire to see people happy. He's just a nice person to be around: amiable and outgoing, but sincere and respectful of others' feelings.
Weakness: Capriciousness. Jackson is ruled by his whims and prone to get swept up in his own flights of fancy and with his emotions, making him jump recklessly into decisions or even retaliate cruelly against those who have hurt the ones he loves.
Bartholomew "Bat" Varney / Robert Harker
Strength: Levelheadedness. For as much crap as Bat's had to endure, he always has been able to keep himself from lashing out at the world or drowning in self-pity, and he's always been able to find a way to be of use somehow, even when he only played second fiddle to someone else.
Weakness: Detachment. This guy has a lot of trouble expressing negative emotions and so -- rather than blaring it all out or venting it constructively -- he prefers to compartmentalize his feelings and put them up on a shelf rather than make decisions with them or worse, simply slink off to be by himself without a word rather than confront the issue straight-on.
Rudolph Ollivander
Strength: Lust for life. Ru is completely fascinated with the world around them and never fails to drink in every little minor joy there is.
Weakness: Insensitivity. My kelpie kiddo is prone to react with condescension and disdain to anything they don't like, and they won't give a damn if your feelings are hurt by that.
