Within Temptation - Fire And Ice (Official Music Video)

Continuing the Careless To Let It Fall playlist posting: Fire and Ice by Within Temptation. Another band that I absolutely adore and one which I often use when writing difficult or breaking relationships. In this case, it’s the relationship between Obi-Wan and Dooku after the Clone War has started “where’s the love we once had, is it all a lie?”, “In silence I hold on to you and I” and so many other lines. It’s a truly heartbreaking song and really gets me into the headspace for their dynamic as the war continues and Obi-Wan begins to question SO many thing about his life and his relationships with certain other characters.

I don't tag my fics with character study because isn't every fic a character study in its own way? Isn't everything an interpretation and so it's a study in how they'd act and think and feel if things went this way or that way or just a little tiny bit different?

And yeah, maybe that isn't what a character study is but don't you do a character study every time you sit down and get into their head and write?

David Tennant pissing off the Prime Minister bc he told government officials to stfu over their anti-trans bigotry and Michael Sheen literally poisoning himself investigating corporations dumping toxic chemicals in underprivileged areas is NOT the energy I expected from 2024 but oh man am I here for it.

Honestly, I love it when characters relapse. When someone who’s gotten over their anger issues falls into a situation so out of their depth they fall back on their old habits. When someone who’s learned to open up becomes a recluse again in order to cope with something outside their control.

There’s just something so horrible, so toxic, about watching a character grow and then slip back into their old selves in order to cope, bc you know they still care, that they’re the same inside, but watching them hurt so hard they don’t know what else to do brings a sense of catharsis.

I think we as a society should bring back brotps. I think we should be weirder about characters being friends the same way people are weird about ships. Make those two characters who interacted once or twice besties. Make it difficult for them to get rid of each other even if they want to. Go nuts

ON the subject of undernegotiated kink in fanfiction. i think we should talk more about how the concept of "not talking about it" is just as much wish fulfillment for some people as "in-depth, therapy-speak conversations where everyone is clear and understood" is for others

like yes, in reality the antidote to shame is open honest conversation with someone who will validate your feelings and wants blah blah blah but SOMETIMES what i want out of my fanfic is characters being understood without having to expose themselves in that way. SOMETIMES it's fun to not dismantle the shame and repression all the way and to instead treat that understanding-despite-not-being-clear as the fantasy
