rules: pick 5 shows and answer the following questions (don’t cheat) & tag people
station 19
rizzoli & isles
reign
pretty little liars
the 100
who is your favorite character in 2?
jane rizzoli all the way.
who is your least favorite character in 1?
that new chief hands down.
what is your favorite episode of 4?
Game On, Charles (6x01), tbh.
what is your favorite season of 5?
everyone who has ever talked to me knows that this is s4 lmao.
who is your favorite couple in 3?
lola x mary mhm. as for canon couples............kenna and bash.
who is your favorite couple in 2?
jane & maura. again as for canon couples....frankie & nina were cute
what is your favorite episode of 1?
this last one (Poor Wandering One, 3x09) had me in actual tears so....
what is your favorite episode of 5?
4x13 maybe?? there was something very beautiful about it...all my people working together at the end of the world. honestly every episode of s4 has one of my favorite scenes of the entire show in it.
what is your favorite season of 2?
season 3!! it has really good overall arcs about serial killers and pushes the chars A Lot. i am also currently rewatching this season tho so it is Fresh in my mind.
how long have you watched 1?
since it started in 2018 i’ve been watching it live.
how did you become interested in 3?
i’m gonna call out tiffany for this one. she used to bash reign like all the time just hearing the theme song was enough. and then she watched ALL OF IT. and then idk how much longer she badgered me and i finally watched it and it gave me lola so like....the love of my life....
who is your favorite actor in 4?
troian bellisario, yeah.
which do you prefer: 1, 2, or 5?
t100 holds a v special place in my heart and not just bc it is what i talk about more often than not. they’re all v different shows so love that for me. but yeah i think i do need to say t100 like it has issues but the characters are just sooo important to me and even when it’s very fast paced and plot based, i’m still invested because of said characters. so yeah.
which shows have you seen more episodes of: 1 or 3?
i mean by default 3 because it has more episodes.
if you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?
i’m not so sure i would want to be any of them tbh but like.... i Am spencer in a lot of ways. i’d like to be ella montgomery too i think; from what i remember, she was a Good and someone to aspire to be when you grow up. Ashley Marin is the love of my life so she’s good too. Caleb’s hacker skills are a thing that i want.
would a crossover between 3 and 4 work?
lmao no just because two completely different everything but a modern reign with all the lies and backstabbing who knows.
pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but okay couple
the show is kind of doing that already lmao. ik a lot of people think vic & dean are going to be a thing but idk i think they’d work and be ~~okay but idk. maybe ryan & travis?
overall, which has a better storyline: 3 or 5?
imo t100. reign is just ....reign is a lot lmao. they have a lot going on and a lot of relationship drama and t100 is more plot-based and even with a lot of the problems that are a direct result of it being super fast-paced, i’d still say it’s more put together than reign lmao.
which has better theme music, 2 or 4?
this is actually really hard bc pretty little liars is Iconic and perfect for the show, but so is rizzoli & isles’ theme bc shipping up to boston. i think i need to go with pretty little liars just bc secret was brilliant, even if shipping up to boston has one of my fave instrumentals ever.

SUMMER OF LOVE AND EVIL
Tumblr media
Before he departs for college at Drake University in Des Moines in the fall of 1967, high school valedictorian Charles Weaver must endure one more long summer in the tiny (pop. 2,500) southern Iowa town of Lockwood. With the assistance of his father, a lawyer and member of the city council, he lands a job on the city street crew, patching potholes and spraying oil on unpaved streets to tamp down the dust. Charles’ romance with Frankie, who happens to be the daughter of his irascible boss, displays occasional sparks without ever truly catching fire. These relationships offer intriguing opportunities to investigate themes of economic and social class that Kinnamon doesn’t explore in depth. From the Fourth of July parade to the county fair to a Pentecostal service, he effectively evokes the atmosphere and daily rhythms of small-town life, though this skill isn’t matched by an ability to create either emotionally complex characters or compelling action. For an intelligent 18-year-old, Charlie seems curiously unreflective, and the closest the novel comes to a moment of real narrative tension is when he and his co-worker Jerry discover a charred body at the site of a fire that destroys a historic church. Unfortunately, the mystery surrounding that event is never fully developed. Save for the occasional allusion to the Vietnam War or the urban riots of that summer, Lockwood, a town whose center is decaying and whose surrounding farms are being acquired by corporate agricultural interests, also seems oddly divorced from the America of its time. Kinnamon’s treatment of his subject is earnest, but his palpable affection for Charlie and most of his other characters doesn’t translate into a memorable reading experience.

A, B, E, F, G, H, I, J, L, N, O, Q, R, W, X, Y, Z
A - Your current OTP(s)/OT3(s)/OTX(s)Honestly, my top ships kinda stay the same XD; I haven’t had a new one in a while that I’ve been super obsessed with.Charles Xavier/Erik LehnsherrKiara/KovuDraculaura/CupidNinth Doctor/Jack/Rose
B - A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mindUmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmClark Kent/Bruce Wayne XD; and I blame BvS and our cute domestic verse entirely.
E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, whatI KNOW I have over the years, I just can’t remember what or for which fandom ^^;OH WAIT… KYORANGE
F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandomPRobably the X-men. I’ve loved them since I was a kid, over half my life, now. I’ve grown up with various versions of them–primarily tv and movies–and they’re very close to my heart.
G - Do you remember your first OTP, if so who was in itHm…I don’t know…I remember one big one from junior high but I don’t think it was my first. Maybe Kiara/Kovu? I adored them and I still do.
H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., tv shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)8′D the X-men movies. Ahh mostly live-action movies, to be honest. And I guess western (especially girly) cartoons lol. Although to a lesser degree. Note, this has changed over the years. I was a big ol’ anime shipper (as I’m sure you remember) back in the day.
I - Has tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and whyIt’s made me avoid fandoms I’m not into. Otherwise I don’t think so…I’ve become aware of certain sects in my fandoms that I steer clear from but beyond that, not really. Most of my bad experiences occurred on other sites.
J - Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over tumblrVikings. Haven’t watched the show, probably won’t watch the show but I admit gifsets and fandom talk intrigue me.
L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves (chars you’re neutral on are fair game, as are chars you dislike)In any fandom? I guess I’ll choose My Little Pony. I’m not really into the fandom, I prefer Equestria Girls, but I’ve watched the show for years so why not. Rainbow Dash isn’t high on my favorites list but I love her nerdy streak and devotion to both A.K. Yearling and Daring Do. Heck knows that’s how I feel about certain series (books or otherwise.) It’s a nice contrast to her otherwise cocky and athletic personality.
N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice)I guesssss I’ll do Monster High? I don’t really have one main fandom…although if it isn’t this, it’s X-men.1) More Cupid/Draculauraaaaaa! Come on guys!2) More people aware and obsessed with all the little Universal monster references in gen 1. Heck, more references to that stuff in general. There used to be such strong ties to it! That’s what really made me fall in love with Monster High. I wish I saw more people touch on or explore it. 3) I…can’t believe I’m going to say this but I’d love to see other fans explore and entertain the world set up in the anime shorts. I think it has a lot of intriguing potential. Characterizations aside.
O - Choose a song at random, which ship or character does it remind you ofWell I have this song stuck in my head. Honestly it could probably fit a couple of ships, if you want to go the angsty route…but I tend to associate the Killers with Cherik XD; Although this totally works for Clark/Bruce too~ before they learn the other’s identity, I mean.
Q - A ship you’ve abandoned and whyMost of my MLP ships. Because I learned a long time ago certain fandoms lack a broad imagination. They’re linear and can only see the forest for the trees. Or something like that.I also grew out of most of my Naruto ships…apart from NaruHina, the only one I really like is from that collaborative AU headcanon ten years or so ago…damn I’m old.
R - A pairing you ship that you don’t think anyone else shipsFrankie Stein/Gooliope Jellington, Faybelle Thorn/Poppy O’Hair, there’s one X-men ship I’ve explored but I think it would be considered taboo (which is precisely why I like exploring it. Changing angles, trying to look at things from perspectives I haven’t seen before. Keeps the creativity fresh.)
W - 5 favorite shipssOf all time? Well XD I listed three of them (Cherik, Kovara, Nine/Rose/Jack) but let me think…the last two…Honestly I’m not sure I have another two. Nothing that’s completely cemented unless you count that au Naruto ship but I haven’t touched that fandom in years. I’d have to think more carefully about this…
X - top 5-10 characters who are YOUR PRECIOUS BABIES AND YOU WILL DIE DEFENDING THEMCHARLES XAVIERKiara ElsaClark KentFrankie SteinDraculauraFaybelle Thorn although I wouldn’t call her my precious baby so much as fabulous fae-bae~Sunset ShimmerPinkie PieSally Acorn
Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)DCAU for sure XDSailor Moon although I’d love to get into it properlyPokemon MCU/Avengers Harry PotterPolitics *shot* I AM KIDDING.
Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go (prompts optional but encouraged)Ahahahhahahaaa wellllllll most of the stuff I’ve been rambling about lately is my own creative world but you know all about that lol. I guess like hmmmm I’m lame but I’ve been seriously thinking about purchasing a moderately affordable and sized Monster High playset because I’m tired of taking photos against a white background and a playset would come with a variety of accessories and furniture and just dress everything up.Plus cuuuute cuddly OTP photos I was going to say something else too but I can’t remember what it was.

An excerpt from the forthcoming Meat Sweats investigative documentary, “Gritty Licks, Sultry Syncopation”, by local couch music critic, William McKindley Updike.
“In an intro to their belting of Helter Skelter in 1987’s rockumentary Rattle and Hum, Bono declared that Charles Manson stole the song from The Beatles and that U2 was “stealing it back.” With his crazy eyes and gnarly goatee, Charlie Manson seriously gave Helter Skelter a bad name. But Bono ultimately came to the rescue.
A hot new band in DC is attempting to do something equally epic—they are waging a sonic war to salvage their eponymous name from what most people would think is, well, just icky. Because the fame of this quintet is starting to bloom like an E Coli outbreak from the floor of a crusty Chicago slaughterhouse, you, dear reader, probably know of whom I speaking. Yes, it is none other than The Meat Sweats, whose mission, like Bono’s bird flipping to Mr. Manson, is to reclaim the unsavory reputation of the malady of meat immoderation, and turn it into something sonically beautiful.
And if a recent show at Columbia Heights’ sticky, yet eerily charming and newish club, The Pinch, is any indication, The Meat Sweats are well on their way to turn what many think is an irreligious outcome of one of the seven deadly sins (i.e. gluttony in case you don’t read your Bible everyday like I do) into something that the band’s beautiful groupies can’t stop themselves to chant for more of.
The Pinch show was such an outpouring of tasty chops and gritty licks, that if Neil Young had been there, and was not too old to still have tear ducts, he would have cried himself a Mississippi River. And speaking of that river, the quintet’s raucous rendition of Mississippi Queen would have sent the Confederate Army into submission had The Meat Sweats been around in 1860, if you know what I mean.
But fair warning—you need to prepare yourself physically and emotionally before you walk into a Meat Sweats show. Physically you are going to sweat—whether you’re a carnivore or a vegetarian. The band has some hypnotic power (perhaps it is delivered in the meaty vapor that seems to surround the band like a charred and oily version of The Peanuts’ Pigpen), and your body will not be able to stop until you drop. The second thing you need to know, is that clothing among the band members seems to be optional, and emotionally you need to be prepared for whatever you see. There will be robes, and de-robing. There may be gold lamè underpants. Or no pants. It is hard to say.
But one thing that will be undeniable—there will be more sweaty licks from these guys’ guitars than a Southern Baptist’s dog in heat. Take, for instance, the bands rousing rendition of Warron Zevon’s “I Need a Truck.” I’m fairly certain that I actually saw Zevon’s ghost clapping in the corner of The Pinch, or hell, they may have even brought the old werewolf back to life. It was that good. And their version of Spinal Tap’s “Sex Farm” literally felt as if someone put an actual spinal tap into my cerebrospinal fluid, and infused it with enough sultry syncopation that it made me dance as if possessed.
The history of how the Meat Sweats were formed is almost as interesting as the hair style of Ryan Adams, whom the band also covers. The members of The Meat Sweats crossed paths many times as young men in the U.S. competitive eating circuit. The boys of course specialized in the carnivorous arts, and one of them even once bested that tiny Japanese kid who always implausibly seems to win these things.
The competitions took them far and wide—even to the great (depending on your definition of such things) Annual Rocky Mountain Oyster Chug. Glorious or inglorious as the event was, these bastard children of Levon Helm (see what I did there, inglorious and bastards???) were faced with a fateful turn of events. In a frenzied fury of cooked cow balls, they filled their gullets not knowing or never minding that the bollocks were rotten (see what I did there, “never minding” “the bollocks”!??). It was only later that night that the reality became apparent, and the maggoty giggleberry driven meat sweats set in.
Though they had to enter a different kind of detox program than most rock-n-roll artists, the future band members were lost to the world for many years sweating it out in the hospital. But the sweaty mess that sought to destroy them also brought them together in what would later be called by Rolling Stone, the “brotherhood of the bad ball sacks.” At the detox farm, the boys bonded over their love for Lucinda Williams, The Band, and Sturgill Simpson, whom they cover in their live shows and offer thanks to them through their darkest hours bending over bed pans.
The boys of the band, who include Merle “Meaty Spice” Hammer, Carl “Head Cheese” Johnson, Frankie “Folk-Steak” McFadden, Lenny “Sloppy Joe” Lawson, and Gus “Grizzle” Jackson, will forever be bound by blood, meat sweats, and tears. They take their bond and their inspiration so seriously that I’m told that Meaty Spice’s drum kit is made from sweaty chicken skins instead of Mylar, that Head Cheese’s guitar strings are wound from feral cat gut, that Folk-Steak’s flute is filled with bacon fat, that Lenny’s keys are made from cow bones, and that Grizzle, well, he is just full of grizzle.
And the tightness of their jams confirms the collective cohesion. Whether they are floating and gnashing through “Railroad of Sin” or “Life of Sin,” or some other song about sin, they never miss a note or a chord change. They are so tight, you would think they were one symbiotic creature feeding off each other. And maybe whatever is left in all of them from the curse of the swamp nuts is what keeps them playing as one. And like The Borg from Star Trek, resistance to these jams is futile.
But if you want to catch The Meat Sweats, which I hope you do after reading this glowing review, you have to act quickly. Like most supergroups of famous and successful solo artists, they are temperamental perfectionists and practice so often that they actually only play one show every two years. If you see their name on a bill again, drop your meat tenderizer, or your tender meat, or whatever you have in your hand at that time, and go see these guys. You will get sweaty, an you might be embarrassed, but you will not be disappointed.”
