Honest question, what do you think a well-written "Jason lives" story would look like?
Like, if Death in the Family still happened, but Bruce saved Jason before it was too late, then odds are there would still be consequences resulting from how BADLY the Joker brutalized him.
Hmm, OK so with your starting premise and utilizing my knowledge of comics to come but also the fact that if Jason lived then certain ideas and plots would be nixed... While all still colored from my perspective, here is my general take:
So, first, rather than Bruce saving Jason I'd say Jason actually manages to save himself, either because he released his mother or managed to half talk her through disarming the bomb.
I know the original splash page has Bruce pulling him from the rubble but that makes zero sense even by comics standards, he and Sheila should be charred corpses.
So, the bomb is disarmed or they managed to get out cos he released Sheila and Bruce arrives to whisk Jason away to medical treatment with Sheila keeping his head above water.
The exact next sequence is harder to make sense of at first, but here's the thing. The original comic could let Joker get away with learning who Jason was behind the mask because he 'died' soon after and then 'came back'. He also initially mistook Tim for Jason. So, given his state of mind it can be... Tacitly tolerated that he never deduced or used Bruce's identity.
Here, that's a bigger issue and so I will say that to keep the tracks covered as much as they can...
Sheila is kept in custody because while Bruce is furious with her, she did keep Jason alive & separating them seems like a bad idea, though she is to be closely watched by Leslie & Alfred.
Unfortunately, the intel she gave him on Joker's plan was slightly false and she used her time to slip away to go after the clown herself, intent on a redemption arc.
There's messages, misunderstandings, truths revealed and another arrest that doesn't last, before Joker is once again in a helicopter trying to escape but this time with Sheila who shoots him, but he shoots her back as he lays dying and the helicopter crashes.
They cannot find Joker's body but Sheila stayed above long enough to die later, musing on where her life led her, the importance of getting a chance to do something, and that Jason is a real good kid, better than she or Bruce deserve.
This is deeply tragic, mostly conceptually and philosophically, but still.
This is enough to make Bruce sort of ease up on Jason, but at the expense of becoming more overprotective in general. Which is hard to argue with as Jason is doing physical therapy and Dick has a broken leg.
So the drama for the ensuing period is Bruce trying to bench key allies and family ETC, so he can keep them safe while still running himself more ragged, but not quite as terribly as his suicidal spiral in canon.
He also has ideas on sending Jason to a semi boarding school to try and keep him out of super heroics. If he succeeds, this plan will still fail and likely ends up forming the nexus of Jason's own mini team with Eddie and Rose. But also would fail to keep him out of Gotham sufficiently. Still he may be at Brentwood some of the time so one can justify solo Batman stories & some more school time adventures for Jason.
But before all that happens, we have a new player in the field.
The Spoiler!!!
That's right, into the arena is the one, the only Stephanie Brown. She's here to spill the tea and kill her dad, and maybe protect her community on the side.
Best part?
Bruce either does not know who she is at first, or has zero jurisdiction over her and can't gain any without revealing his identity or attacking a teenager for trying to help and she is slippery regardless.
Basically, one of the people who helps crowbar Bruce back into tolerating help is Stephanie basically keeping her original give no fucks about Batman attitude and doing her own thing.
Their relationship is likely a bit contentious and back and forth, far more hands off, not quite mentoring, but also less outright toxic than canon.
She & Jason probably have a thing and bond over some shared and different history stuff, but I don't see it being the mainstay relationship.
Young Justice is likely found eventually under similar circumstances, though Stephanie likely gets to be a member this time, as do Eddie & Rose.
I think the team would be less, Kon, Kid Flash & Robin and more like a cycling mass of active or present members, dealing with an overseer.
Basically a comic series to throw lots of different personalities power sets and problems together and see what dynamics emerge as popular.
After that, less sure.
My ideal is Jason goes to university or maybe has to stay with Young Justice or some other area full time and adopts his own hero persona while Steph gets a run as Robin alongside Cassandra as Batgirl.
Otherwise most major storylines, save one's reliant on Jason being dead, still happen. Steph likely has a less horrible time as Spoiler, but is also maybe always and forever more overtly on the outs so she might not get Robin as she might not want it. (Though maybe during No Man's Land...)
See what I mean about the plot drift?
War Games may still happen but probably with a very different, though not inherently better cos Bruce's plan was dumb, resolution.
Also Joker does return, sadly, and there's always likely a hovering question as to whether he knows the truth of their identities but its never confirmed, or isn't until he dies again.

B My Valentine: (aka) A brief love holiday interlude to Damian (Gremlin) Wayne and his even more gremlin-esque family
It was Valentine's Day at Wayne Manor. A usually peaceful and non destructive holiday. Usually you'd expect for a love filled holiday event to be filled with...well, love and affection for each other and remembering what makes you love each other.
But in Wayne Manor, Valentine's Day means more competition, for what you ask? Well, for more of Bruce's approval of course! Every night (actually weeks) before the big day Bruce's family spends the night(s) toiling away at handmade cards and ideas, each trying to outdo the other on their gifts and carefully crafted surprises for their dear dad.
But...they (Richard, Jason and Tim) have an issue. There's extra competition today, not only is that brat Damian (reluctantly admitted by the older boys to be) super talented, but those wenches Bruce (for some reason) adopted into the family suddenly flocked towards Wayne Manor with a competitive gleam in their eyes. The three eldest could practically smell the determination from Barbara, Stephanie and Cassandra.
Bruce's cousin Kate even came, but she said it was for the seasonal goodies and to watch the chaos unfold. Although, the boys and girls are weary about her...the woman can be surprisingly great at hiding her emotions, even to the point of confusing Cass sometimes.
Of course no one lets Bruce in on the fact his family are being competitive on such a loving day, they just are content on letting the man bask in the loudness of his large home. The man always brightens up in his own way when everyone (or almost everyone. Duke couldn't make it) manages to visit, the corners of his lips turn up slightly and everyone has come to notice a happy blush overtakes his usually pale cheeks.
Which brings everyone to now. January 14th: Valentine's Day on a Wednesday at 7am. Richard waking up at a horrid smell coming from what he assumes to be the kitchen, his jaw clenching when he goes to check his hidden camera in the kitchen only to find the device not working and showing a glitchy and static screen.
The acrobat creeps out of his bed and down the hallway and stairs towards his target, his ears honing in on the quiet curses from a woman. Richard slips into the kitchen to watch Stephanie freaking Brown trying to cook...whatever it is? The older can't actually tell with how charred the...pancake? Or some batter like texture is burned and others a mixture of charred and undercooked.
Stephanie gasps at a tall shadow being cast behind her the girl preparing to turn around only to be pressed into the counter as an all too familiar voice whispers softly and all too sweetly in her ear, "Do you need my help, traitor?"
Richard allows the blonde to turn around and smiles down at the flustered girl, "Traitor!? How am I a traitor? We never agreed to work together." Stephanie sputters and blows a strand of hair out of her face.
Richard narrows his eyes at the younger girl and pulls away, "I suppose so. But your actions these past few days were letting me know we had some sort of pact. How could you shut off my cameras like that?" Stephanie look at the taller confused, "You...put cameras up to watch us? What is wrong with this family!?"
From the doorway comes a deeper voice, Jason holding out his hands to show the covert listening devices-aka: bugs/wires that were put in his and everyone else's rooms-when the two turn to look at him.
"Then how do you explain THESE, Stephanie? I know you and Timbo were helping each other bug everyone's rooms. You two thought you could be sooo sneaky."
Stephanie opens her mouth to defend herself, but Tim suddenly appears from a cabinet, stepping in front of the now baffled girl. "Not another word Stephanie, he has no proof. As far as we know he could be accusing us of his own crimes."
A burst of laughter escapes Jason and he pulls out his phone to wave it around, "Are you sure about that? I wouldn't sound so confident talking like that to the person who has video evidence from A CERTAIN SOMEONE'S hidden cameras." Tim gasps and Stephanie curses, the two looking to a betrayed looking Richard who points at the skunk haired teen.
"I-It was you who shut off my cameras! You knew about them and were using them to get blackmail material!"
Tim crosses his arms and huffs, "Kind of sus that he knew about my bugs as well! Almost like he was spying on us the whole time!"
Richard gasps again and turns to Stephanie, "Or almost like he had help shutting things down and figuring things out so a CERTAIN GIRL could sneak her ass downstairs to make Bruce handmade food." Stephanie's eyes widen and she shakes her head, "I demand a lawyer. You can't pin all of this on me! We were helped by Barbara!"
At the confession a curse is heard from what sounds like a speaker, when Jason gets to searching he finds one behind the fridge, Barbara's voice bitter as it speaks. "I'll get you for this, Steph. So what if I helped them both? You both asked help from Cass to take those cameras down as well."
Jason and Steph curse while Tim sips at his suddenly materialized coffee, shaking his head disappointedly. "There's no loyalty in family anymore. Where did the trust go?"
Cassandra jump scares everyone by suddenly appearing on top of the fridge, her brown eyes staring down on them like a judgmental god, "No trust. Only war. You three let downs. Quiet agreement. You break truce-" brown eyes narrow accusingly at Jason and Stephanie-"Now my enemies. Free game."
Barbara suddenly appears from the doorway and immediately starts to pin blame on the two teens.
Chaos soon erupts and everyone is pinning blame on one another. The arguing group not noticing Damian listening from above the steps and smiling to himself at how everything worked out beautifully. He still finds it odd how a mysterious source left a note in his room about all the going ons of his enemies siblings...but he'll count his blessings one by one he supposes.
Damian excitedly rushes to Bruce's room and opens the door quietly, stilling at seeing his father up in bed with Alfred by his side. The two men holding bugging devices and watching videos of everything that happened the past few weeks, Bruce looks up in surprise at Damian before his brows furrow.
"What is all this?"
Damian opens and closes his mouth, too flustered at being caught to respond. At the silence Bruce just sighs and stands up, grabbing Damian's small hand in his and leading him back out of the room. "I assume your siblings are up as well? We need to have a talk about this right now."
Damian bows his head as he's led into the kitchen by Bruce, everyone quieting down at realizing they've been caught red-handed.
--A few minutes later--
"It's touching that you all want my affection...but if this is the only reason you celebrate Valentine's Day is to squabble and one up each other...then maybe don't. A-Am I really that bad at letting you guys know I love and appreciate you that you have to fight for me to notice you?"
Jason frowns at that and shakes his head, "You can be a bit emotionally constipated-" he grunts at the elbow in his side-"But we know you love us! It's more of like...your love is such a treasure we get greedy and want to eliminate any and all competition!"
Bruce looks up at the genuine smiles and nods of agreement from his children, the man sighing and shoulders slumping more. "But I want to love all of you-" Ice blue eyes turn to look at the mess in the kitchen curiously and hopefully-"Oh? W-Were you all trying to make me breakfast? Did you all come together to try and make me food?"
Everyone freezes and looks at each other before coming to a silent agreement, all the Wayne children smiling and nodding quickly, their voices meshing together to sound like a happy symphony.
"Of course! We only wanted you to be happy!"
Bruce's eyes widen in shock and awe, his cheeks flushing happily as he stands and starts directing his kids to do different tasks. "I used to cook with Alfred a lot as a kid! We can cook breakfast together!"
The family get so distracted cleaning up Stephanie's mess that they don't notice Kate and Alfred at the kitchen entrance. The former huffing a laugh and looking at the butler suspiciously, "So how did you do this?"
Alfred keeps his gaze forward and smirks the tiniest bit before patting the red head's arm and turning away. "I had no involvement my dear child, it must be cupid working their magic. You go join them and I'll be right back."
Kate tilts her head but quickly rushes into the chaos to join her cousin and his crazy kids.
Alfred smiles at hearing the laughter and noise coming from the kitchen as he heads up the stairs again. Damian's complaints being heard on Stephanie and Tim's mixing patterns, Richard fighting with Jason on who's going to lick the spoon and Cass and Barbara murmuring quietly on how they'll decorate Bruce's plate to look pretty.
After arriving to Bruce's bedroom again Alfred steps onto the balcony, clears his throat and looks towards the sky, "Master Kent." Only a millisecond passes before Clark-or he should say Superman-is hovering in front of him, deep blue eyes curious on the outcome of his mission.
"So how did everything go? Did you really need to do all this just for them to calm down enough to act...civilized?"
Alfred smiles and nods, "Of course! The one thing we all can agree on is Bruce's happiness, as soon as master Bruce was disheartened by their behaviors they immediately pulled their acts together and are now making breakfast with hi-"
"Alfred? Is everything alright up here? I just thought you'd be quick to come take pi-" Bruce pauses at seeing Clark hovering outside and makes his way over to the two men-"Clark? Is everything okay? You didn't get hit with Kryptonite did you!?" Alfred smirks softly as the final part of his plan is in motion, the older gentleman eyeing the Valentine's card poking out from Superman's red shorts, the butler whispering so only Clark can hear him as he excuses himself.
"I do believe you have something to give master Bruce?"
Clark looks down nervously as the door clicks shut and he hovers closer to the concerned man, taking a deep breath in and shoving the handmade card he crafted for Bruce into his chest. "Happy Valentine's Day!"
Bruce stumbles back just a little and looks at the card, smiling at the words 'B Mine' written on the admittedly gorgeously crafted card and blushing in a mixture of shyness and happiness. "A pun on my nickname? You even drew little bats."
Clark scratches his head and chuckles nervously, "I-I know it's cheesy bu-"
"I'll be your Valentine!"
Clark gasps softly and finally makes eye contact with Bruce, delighting in the pink blush spreading across his face and down to the elegant neck, the blush intensifying at Clark's intense stare. It's at the other man's silence that Bruce repeats himself.
"I-I said I'll be your Valentine...so come and make breakfast with us?"
Deep blue eyes adoringly stare at the endearing human being before him. Clark realizing that Alfred's right as he concedes under the hypnotizing ice blue eyes and the small tug on his cape, the man super speeding into his regular everyday clothes and coming back with a wide smile as he prepares himself for a breakfast with the Wayne's.
They all really would do anything for Bruce's happiness...even if that means sacrificing your safety for a day with your Valentine and his gremlin family.
(I don't know how or why I basically wrote a whole fanfiction for you all? It was supposed to be something shorter...but I obviously got carried away XD. Happy Valentine's Day everyone and I hope whoever reads this enjoys it and has a lovely day, week, month and year.
Please remember to stay safe, happy, healthy and of course lovely as always. 💛)

Oh Mother Where Art Thou?
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/yMQYrz2 by Gimmebananas Despite what most may believe Jason didn’t remember the first time he died all too well. Yes, he remembered the torture, the crowbar, the sick bitter taste of disgust that washed down his throat when he found out what his mother Sheila did, he even remembered the feeling of fire and flesh burnt and charred. But the death itself was quite lackluster compared to the build-up. It seemed that despite the Joker’s showmanship he still had performance issues. So no, Jason couldn’t quite remember his first death but he could fairly well remember the others. Or, I love the idea that Jason can come back to life when he dies and decided there aren't enough fics about it, so I chose to just write it myself. Ooo, I have a few thoughts here. Numbered list time if you’re interested.
Can Steph cook?
Cooking does come up in Steph’s story, preboot. In Batgirl (2009) #3, she serves her mom some slightly charred waffles and in Gotham Gazette: Batman Dead, her mom tells her to make dinner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yes, Steph CAN cook.
2. Fending for Herself
And importantly, her 90s appearances, particularly Showcase ‘95 #5, loved to emphasise that Steph Brown is a latchkey kid; her dad was always in jail and her nurse mom was struggling with a drug addiction. For a long period in Steph’s life, she did not have a parent that took care of or made time for her. In fact, Steph even found herself taking care of her mom. She’s probably no gourmet chef but she probably cooked all her home meals for a long time in her teenage years. Maybe that’s why waffles are her comfort food, easy and quick to prepare.
3. What Waffles Mean to Steph’s Relationship with her Mom
In Batgirl (2009), Steph and her mom, Crystal, are in the process of properly mending their relationship. And there’s weight to the fact that Crystal cooks waffles for her as a way of bonding, even if Steph shrugs it off. This suggests that it was probably mostly Steph using the kitchen before her “death”.
Tumblr media
And maybe waffles, Steph’s comfort food nonetheless, were less her favourite food as a teenager but more an easy to prepare staple of her diet which she’d maybe even have for dinner sometimes. Maybe her mom doesn’t really know that.
Crystal’s just trying to get closer with her daughter by making her the food she always eats but the reason her daughter always eats that food is because Crystal never cooked for her and it was the easiest thing to prepare. So Steph appreciates that but is kinda urghhh about it initially because the irony is painful. But she wants to have a good relationship with her mom and grows into her chances throughout the Point of New Origin arc. So it’s important that we see Steph meeting her mom halfway at the end of the arc but cooking her the same waffles (panel above).
4. Reboot Rubbish
Reboot Steph’s background is thinly developed because in 2011, DC decided legacy, history and character development don’t sell. Moreover, the writers of Batgirls literally thought Stephanie is a 14 year old and was clearly unfamiliar with Stephanie’s preboot history (and glory).
Tumblr media
Also, DC are massively desperate for comic sales and they’re doing a Netflix by employing all these weird middle-class millennials to write stories that are hyper-relatable and end up producing stories which are just hyper-relatable to the weird middle-class millennial writing it. The writers knows young people who can’t cook and likes boba or thinks that young people can’t cook and like boba or can’t cook and likes boba themselves so guess what? Steph can’t cook and likes boba now.
Hyper-focusing on the “relatable-ness” of a story normally ends up alienating a large portion of readers and sacrificing THEME because nothing is relatable to EVERYONE and if the purpose of the story is to get someone to say “this is so me” then the story forgets to actually say something.
Anyways I don’t like Batgirls but Batgirl (2009) is the best comic run ever.💜
Stephanie Brown cooking skills
Tumblr media
Batgirls (2022-2023) #11
Okay so I'm still a novice in comics and generally slowly learning the details of history of these characters, and I'm also aware there's been like continuity reboot things over the years. But from what I understand, her backstory involves having a father who is both a deadbeat and a criminal who has done prison time. Her mother meanwhile is both a nurse (a rather time-demanding job) and also addicted to drugs.
Tumblr media
Robin (1993-2009) #3
So maybe this is a bit of a nitpick... but Steph feels like someone who should be rather self-sufficient given her circumstances and at least know how to do some basic cooking to feed herself when her parents aren't available or unable (such as not screwing up cup noodles).
Just feels like the kind of backstory which would lead to someone learning life skills in one manner or another at a young age to make up for parental lacking.
Although to be fair, thing might not necessarily be that bad and even if it were then there's still ways for Steph to get food without having to cook it herself.
Just some thoughts anyway.
Anyone with more knowledge of Steph, or the current continuity, let me know if I'm just overthinking things or not?

Note
rank the batfam from most to least dateable
First things first, let’s get something straight: I hate every single one of them and everything they stand for, with a singular exception. We’ll start there.
Red Hood. Call me, we can blow off more than just steam and heads. Good time guaranteed.
Huntress. Big fan of the way she, you know, shoots people. If we could just get her a little more unhinged, she’d be the perfect woman – and if rumors are to be believed, she has her finger in more than a few pies in the criminal underworld. Now that’s the kind of lady you want.
Nightwing. Ass, that’s it.
Red Robin. We all love a bad boy. He’s not it. Nerds can be sexy, though, so he gets an honorary mention.
Batgirl. Why would you waste a family legacy like that by joining up with the merry band of Boy Scouts? Crazy, but not in the fun way. Pass.
Batman. Asshole blocks my shots. No one blocks my shots. Must be a robot, and robots aren’t hot.

‘ can i ask you something? ’ || for @itsbxtgirl
Tony had spoken to her once – maybe twice – but always over the phone with copious amounts of jokes he wasn’t sure he was getting and even more than he was convinced she didn’t realise he was getting. Peter had a lot of friends, and it was something he’d always encouraged even if it had taken a long time for him to realise the importance of them himself (or the importance of letting people in). Stephanie appearing in his office with her hands on his desk, a fierce determination about her when the words left her lips … well, it was unexpected, but he wasn’t going to let her down. “As long as you’re not about to tell me you unleashed a piece of artificial intelligence with a propensity for nuclear weapons on the world,” he said, “ask away. I’m an open book.”

School Dance
For Maribat March day 25 theme school dance
Master List
“Now remember class,” Mrs. Davis spoke, “The Father Daughter dance is tomorrow afternoon at 5 till 7, make sure you get your tickets at the booth near the cafeteria.”
“Yes Mrs. Davis.” All the students answered in unison.
Little Charlotte Martha Brown-Wayne walked out of her 4th grade class with her best friend, Faith Couffaine, in tow.
“So Char, are you going to be going to the dance?” Faith asked, her blue eyes locked onto Charlotte.
“I don’t think so Fae.” Charlotte turned so that her brown eyes faced the ground.
“Why not? Me and my dad are going to be there!” Faith exclaimed, fixing her headband that somehow got tangled in her thick black hair.
“Yeah because you have a dad, I don’t think moms are allowed.” Charlotte replied, tucking some stray pieces of her dark brown hair behind her ears.
“Oh please, just bring one of your moms, it’ll be fine!”
“But Fae-” She turned her head to face her best friend.
“No don’t Fae me. I already got my ticket and I know your parents are just waiting for you to ‘remember’,” She used air quotes, “to get yours. You’ll be fine Char, plus isn’t your mom really looking forward to this?” She didn’t wait for her to answer, “Exactly, so I expect to see you there.”
“Fae-”
“Bye Charlotte, you better not leave me hanging!” Was the last thing said before she raced to hug her mom and leave in her limo.
“Ugh, really Faith.” Charlotte then walked to the place where Alfred was always parked in order to pick her up.
“Hello Miss Charlotte, did you have a good day at school?” Alfred questioned as he got out of the car to open the door for her.
“It was fine.”
“Now you’re not forgetting anything are you?” Charlotte froze like a deer in headlights, acting was not her strong suit.
“No?” Neither was lying, just like her maman.
Alfred opened the door for her and she quickly ducked inside, Alfred returned to his seat but didn’t move. He also didn’t lock the doors.
“Miss Charlotte, why do you not want to go to the dance?” A simple question with a complicated answer, at least in her mind.
“Everyone is gonna be there with their dad. I won’t because I don’t have a dad. I would be there with mom, I’d be the outcast.”
“I don’t believe the gender of the parent you bring should matter as long as you have fun.”
“It's called the Father Daughter dance for a reason Alfred.”
“A simple label that should not matter Miss Charlotte.” He thought for a minute, “Tell me Miss Charlotte, will any of your friends care that you bring your mom?”
She thought back to what Faith had been saying the entire week. “No.”
“Will your classmates?”
She thought again, she didn’t interact with her classmates a ton, but none of them seemed to mind the fact that she had 2 moms. “Probably not.”
“Then what is the problem?”
“It's just-I’ll look weird because I’m the only one with my mom. Everyone else will be there with their fathers and I’ll be there with my mother.”
“Like I stated before Miss Charlotte, it matters not the gender of the parent as long as you have fun with them. I have no doubt that some of your classmates will be their fathers but will be miserable.”
Charlotte snapped her head up to look at him, like the mere thought of one of her classmates being miserable with their father at the Father Daughter dance was impossible. But it seemed reasonable, she knew quite a few of her classmates who talked fondly about their mothers but not their fathers. And when the subject of the Father Daughter dance came up, they never participated in the conversations unless asked, and their answers were never enthusiastic. Plus Alfred was always right, that’s what her mom, maman, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandfather taught her.
She nodded her head in determination, opening the car door and saying over her shoulder, “Be right back Alfred!”
She pulled a 5 dollar bill out of her backpack pocket, one that had been haunting her for the past week. She made her way to the cafeteria then to the booth right next to it.
“Hello Charlotte. Here to buy a ticket?” The lady, she’s pretty sure is a fifth grade teacher, asked.
“Yes ma’am.” She handed her the 5 dollar bill and received a small slip of paper in return.
“Remember to show that to the lady who will be at the entrance tomorrow. That’s the only way she’ll let you in. Promise not to lose it?”
“I promise.” She smiled at the woman before racing back to where Alfred was waiting.
-
“Mom! Maman!” Charlotte called as she entered the manor. Not hearing their voices she assumed they were in the kitchen so she went to her room to drop her backpack off and change into some more comfy clothes.
After changing out of her uniform and into some leggings and a t-shirt she made her way to the kitchen where she found her moms.
Her maman was baking something, probably cookies, while her mom watched her, occasionally handing her ingredients. It wasn’t an uncommon sight for Charlotte, in fact they had family baking days every Sunday. The only hard part was getting their attention, since whenever they baked they were always in their own little world together.
Her eyes caught the frosting that she was guessing her maman had just finished making. Perfect.
She made her way over to the bowl, grabbed the spoon, and took a big bite of the sweet treat. And as predicted,
“Charlotte!”
She turned and there her maman stood staring at her, hands on her hips as she tried to fight the smile off her face. Her mom was trying to hold back her giggling in the background.
“Hi maman. Hi mom.”
“Why are you eating frosting? When you know you’re not allowed.” Her maman gave her a pointed look.
“It was the only way to get your attention.”
“She’s not wrong Nette.” Steph interjected, coming up to stand next to Charlotte. She crouched down so she was at Charlotte’s level, “Did you get the ticket.”
“Yes, it's in my backpack.”
“Ok make sure you don’t lose it. We all know you have your maman’s memory.”
“Hey! My memory is not that bad!” Marinette protested.
“Anymore. We all know what your memory was like when you were younger.” Steph reminded.
“...Fine. I’ll give you that.”
“Can I help frost the cookies?” Charlotte asked.
“Of course my little ladybug. Pinkie promise not to eat any frosting?” Steph held out her pinkie to Charlotte.
“Yes mom!” Charlotte held out her pinkie, returning the promise.
-
“Charlotte! Are you almost ready!” Steph shouted from outside her room.
“Almost ready mom!” Charlotte replied as she adjusted the golden colored clip in her hair.
“Charlotte you look great.” Marinette came to stand next to her in the mirror.
Charlotte ran her hands down her black and gold dress for the umpteeth time. Whatever she did, something just didn’t look right. But she didn’t know what.
“Something doesn’t look right.”
“I think I have an idea of what might help,” Marinette took a gold necklace off her neck, “Here you go.”
“Wait Maman, isn’t this your favorite necklace.”
“It is, but I think for tonight it’ll look best with you.” Marinette put the necklace around Charlotte’s neck and clipped it in the back. “There, what do you think?”
“I love it,” She turned around and hugged Marinette, “Thank you Maman!”
“Of course my beautiful baby bat. Now don’t keep your mom waiting.”
Charlotte opened the door and met her mom’s face on the other side.
“Well look at you little ladybug, ready to go?” Steph held her arm out to Charlotte.
“Yes mom.” Charlotte took her arm as they headed outside where Alfred was waiting.
They seated themselves in the back of the car when Steph noticed the necklace.
"Charlotte, where did you get that necklace?"
"Maman gave it to me. Do you like it?"
"Yes, very much. It even goes with your dress."
"It kinda goes with your dress too."
"I see, did Maman ever tell you how she got that necklace?"
"No, why?"
"We have arrived Miss Stephanie and Miss Charlotte." Alfred spoke.
"I'll tell you later." Steph promised.
“You better.” Charlotte grumbled as they got out of the car, unsure if her mom actually heard her.
-
“They’re pretty cute huh?” A man asked Stephanie. Both parents were watching their respective daughters dance together, the two girls forgetting about their parents that sat only a few feet away.
“Adorable. I’m Stephanie, by the way, Charlotte’s mom.” She held her hand out to the man.
“Ethan, Jasmine’s dad.” He returned the handshake.
“I don’t suppose we could arrange some playdates in the future?”
“Of course we can. If I don’t tell Jazzy that she can see her friend again then she’ll have a riot.”
“Well would you look at that! Both of our children have at least one thing in common!”
“Here you can put my number in here.” He slid her his phone.
“And you can put yours in mine.” She handed her phone over.
After putting their information in the other’s phone, they both took their respective phones back and glanced at the names.
“Well Mrs. Brown-Wayne, it seems we will be seeing each other quite a lot in the future.”
“It seems we will Mr. Cook.”
-
Marinette got a video sent to her later that night. From her lovely wife. She opened up the video to see her daughter dancing with another girl. It seemed she had inherited another one of her traits, the inability to hide her blush.
Marinette giggled to herself as she watched her daughter continue to dance with the unknown girl. It seemed like the other girl was having fun too, if the smile she was wearing and the glow in her eyes told her anything.
The video was followed by a text, ‘I think there will be many more playdates in the future.’
Marinette smiled to herself as she tucked her phone away. Fully planning on getting answers the next day on this mysterious girl who had captured her daughter’s heart. Young love was always so cute to watch.
-
“Maman?” Charlotte asked as she was being tucked into bed, the night’s events had taken a toll on her. In the comfort of her bed she was struggling to keep her eyes open.
“Yes my baby bat?” Marinette asked as she sat on her bed.
“Mom never told me how you got that necklace,” She lazily pointed to the necklace that had returned to its original place on Marinette’s neck, “Can you?”
“That’s quite the story, maybe when you're older.”
“Aw, but mom said she would.”
“Did she say she’d tell you later?”
“Uh...yes.”
“When mom says later, she really means not for a long time.”
“Oh…”
“How about about this, in around five years-”
“Five years!”
“Yes, when you're 15, the age I met your mom, I’ll tell you the story.”
“You promise?”
“I promise.”
“Pinky promise?” Charlotte held her pinkie out.
“Pinky promise.” Marinette linked her pinky with her daughter’s.
“Okay goodnight Mom.” Charlotte snuggled into the blankets and closed her eyes.
“Goodnight sweetie.” Marinette gave her a light kiss on the forehead.
She made her way out of the room, silently closing the door, before making her way to her and her wife’s bedroom. She entered and heard her wife getting ready in the bathroom so she sat down on the bed and waited.
She didn’t have to wait long as only a few minutes later her wife came out of the bathroom and sat down with her on the bed.
“Hey what’s on your mind?” Steph asked as Marinette laid her head on her shoulder. Her hand subconsciously fiddling with the gold necklace that sat on her neck.
“Did you tell Charlotte that you would tell her the story of how you got me the necklace?” Marinette got straight to the point, she had learned that sometimes it was much better than beating around the bush.
“Maybe.”
“Stephanie.”
“What! She asked and-”
“You should know better! The necklace has to do with how we met!”
“Yeah but-”
“No buts! You know we didn’t meet the most child friendly way!”
“I know, I just thought that she would forget about it after the dance.”
“I told her I would tell her when she turns 15, now she’s going to be counting down the days till then.”
“I’m sorry Nette.”
“It’s okay Steph, I just wish we had a little time before she knew.”
“She was going to find out eventually, at least now we have a date to prepare ourselves.”
Marinette’s mind went back to a time where her only worries were what to wear for her next date with Stephanie. Where she didn’t have to worry about her best friend dying, or the grief that followed.
“Come on let’s not worry about it tonight.” Steph brought her out of her stupor.
“Yeah, goodnight Steph.”
“Goodnight Nette.”

Oh Mother Where Art Thou?
by Gimmebananas Despite what most may believe Jason didn’t remember the first time he died all too well. Words: 623, Chapters: 1/?, Language: English Fandoms: Batman - All Media Types Rating: Not Rated Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence, Major Character Death Characters: Jason Todd, Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, Alfred Pennyworth, Barbara Gordon, Gotham City, Death of the Endless, Talia al Ghul, Ra's al Ghul, Damian Wayne, Tim Drake (DCU), Cassandra Cain, Duke Thomas, Stephanie Brown, Original Characters, others - Character Relationships: Jason Todd & Bruce Wayne, Jason Todd & Damian Wayne, Tim Drake & Dick Grayson & Jason Todd & Bruce Wayne & Damian Wayne, Jason Todd & Everyone, Gotham City & Jason Todd, Talia al Ghul & Jason Todd, Talia al Ghul/Bruce Wayne Additional Tags: Undead Jason Todd, Immortal Jason Todd, Jason Todd is Red Hood, Batfamily (DCU) Feels, Angst, Catatonic Jason Todd, briefly, Damian Wayne Needs a Hug, Jason Todd and Damian Wayne Meet in the League of Assassins, Bodyguard Jason Todd, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Slow Build, Other Additional Tags to Be Added, no beta we die like jason todd via https://ift.tt/yMQYrz2

🔥 + batfam chars
Bruce Wayne should be a weird old man I said what I said
I wanna know more about Nissa (Batgirl Beyond) and I wanna see her working with an older Stephanie Brown
I think my Barbara Gordon thoughts are. well!
I don't actually know what identity I want Steph to have tbh. I think she's too old for Robin now (though I wouldn't mind some like flashback stories exploring her time as Robin), so it's kind of a toss-up between Spoiler & Batgirl but :) I love Steph's Batgirl run I do not think critically here
I did a whole post for Cass Cain but also she's allergic to avocado
I hope Tim gets to come out with this Urban Legends stuff but people do need to stop saying he's canonically bi already because if DC backtracks on this like. you've just set yourself up for some major disappointment + anger
I miss Alfred I wish he never died :(
Jace Fox is a good character you guys are just mean
Seriously though, I'm really enjoying the focus we've been getting on the Fox Family
Silver St Cloud is the only Batman love interest I could ever see him actually marrying
BruTalia could've worked out I think but right now I'd prefer it if writing focused on just. fixing her character after the assassination she's suffered through
I like Selina but. I don't like BatCat
About half the Justice League could beat Batman, even if he had prep time
Cassandra Cain is the best fighter in the entire Batfamily
Duke Thomas is legitimately the best comic character DC has introduced in a while. Like he's a meta in the Batfam there's so much there already and the way they use symbolism with him it's just :) my boy is out here being the best character ever
I think Vicki Vale should know Bruce Wayne is Batman. As a treat.
I wanna see Ryan Wilder in the comics again!!!
Forbidden Alysia Yeoh Batgirl come back to us
Jason's not allowed back to Gotham until he gets a good writer & some good development. Let him be a person please

I don't follow you yet but I saw you reblogged the ask me anything post. Top 5 first Batfam members, then DC chars?
Asdghjk don't worry you don't have to follow me, I appreciate the ask either way!
Top 5 Batfam Members:
Cassandra Cain: I adore Cass with my whole heart. I think her introduction is one of the strongest character introductions I have ever read, and her Batgirl solo was by and large amazing. In particular, I love how it developed her perfectionist complex and low self worth, and how it showcased her sense of humor. Her character is complex and compelling and I love her.
Damian Wayne: Little shit (affectionate). It's a shame he almost never gets written well, because he might've had a serious chance at dethroning Cass. As it stands, I love him when he's written well, and can often enjoy him even when he isn't. His character arc of coming to question his upbringing and actively working to redeem himself and learn compassion is extremely compelling, and I adore the fact that he's a loudmouth arrogant little brat. Half of R:SOB lives in my head rent free. Actually tied with Duke but for the sake of this list he's two and Duke's three.
Duke Thomas: he has SO MUCH potential!! Bc he's a newer character his characterization has been pretty consistent with no major duds imo, which is nice for a change, but more importantly than that, he feels unique and compelling. I DESPERATELY hope DC starts actually exploring the concept of a daytime vigilante in Gotham and Duke's light powers, because both have SO MUCH potential. I really love his daredevil tendencies, natural smarts, and connection to the concepts of Gotham vigilantes and villains (long explenation necessary and im on mobile) as well!
Stephanie Brown: every day I kick myself for not getting off my ass and reading through the reading lists I have saved for her. I've liked her in everything I've read, from her more cynical Spoiler to her hopeful Batgirl, and I enjoy her backstory and personality a lot. She deserved better than to get fucked over by everything and everyone including the writers.
Dick Grayson: I tend to like Dick when I read him, though I admit to enjoying him the most when he's written as a flawed character with a tendency to push people away and lash out in times of stress than the emotional support batfam member. I like his style of heroing (when written as both flippity and sociable but calculating and hypercompetent), and think his sense of humor is fun. that said it's hard for me to get truly invested in him because, like most characters who've been around for very long, his characterization is highly dependent on the writer, and his history so vast it's nearly impossible to get through.
Top 5 DC Characters in general:
Koriand'r: Listen. She's the actual love of my lide. I ADORE her. The simple concept of 'alien from a planet that doesn't censor emotions' done beautifully, resulting in a truly unique character whose love and hate are deep and intrinsically intertwined. I love her stubborn love of life even in the face of all the horrible things she's experienced just as much as I love the hatred born out of them. Queen of my heart.
Cassandra Cain/Damian Wayne/Duke Thomas: tying them to cheat this list a little, but Cass is #2 and Damuan/Duke a shared #3, for reasons listed above.
Bette Kane: I just think she's Neat! I have a soft spot for both minor character and female characters fucked over by writers, and Bette hits both. I think the fact that she's an attention-seeking B-list hero mostly in it for the fun is a fantastic breath of fresh air, and I really appreciate it especially when she's also written as confident, competent, snarky, smart, kinda manipulative, and loyal to her friends.
Jaime Reyes: His 06 solo and particularly the Reach arc is a masterpiece. Admittedly, I haven't read terribly much of him outside that, but I adore the way it develops him and sets his character. He's such a staunchely heroic and kind individual, but is still vety much a teenager who gets angry, petty, and frustrated. His powers are cool as hell and his relationship to Khaji-Da stellar. I love how they had him learn strategy and rely on smarts, not because he's underpowered, but BECAUSE not all problems can be solved with power, especially not non-lethal power. Also the fact that his family knows his identity makes for brilliant and unique interactions and I hate all versions of him that remove it.
Diana of Themyscira: she has all the problems with popular characters that have been around for forever, and it does make it hard for me to feel like I truly know her or get invested with her, but I just ADORE her character as a concept, so I actually enjoy seeing different takes on her! I'm a greek mythology nerd and adore the world of Themyscira and Diana in general, her lasso of truth is a fantastically interesting weapon, and I think her base personality traits of very compassionate, truthful, yet a true warrior are very compelling.

Tim Drake: I can't imagine what Steph is planning. But I can tell you two things. We won't like it and it won't be legal.
