I don't know the general feel for the svsss donghua, but one thing I can never forgive is how they completely changed Binghe's character in that scene w/ Liu Mingyan. Why would they do that!?! I mean I get that they were trying to censor the ✨gay✨ but they totally changed Binghe's whole personality there!

In the book, Shen Qingqiu is trying to get a look under Liu Mingyan's veil out of curiosity of what she looks likes, Binghe sees SQQ's attention on her, get's jealous, and strikes up a conversation w/ her while he carefully leads their horses away from Shen Qingqiu.

In the donghua, the thing w/ Shen QIngqiu is the same, but when Binghe sees, instead of getting jealous he thinks something like "Oh! That's the type of disciple shizun likes! I must talk to her to learn how to be a better disciple for shizun!"

That totally changes Binghe's character. The guy is jealous. That's just who he is. It is a constant throughout the whole series. Bingbing wants shizun for himself. Even if they were censoring it, they still could have done a jealous Binghe. It's not just people who are in love that get jealous! You can still make him want to be Shen Qingqiu's favorite disciple! You can still make him want all of shizun's praise! You can still make him jealous of shizun giving attention to others! Seriously! Isn't Ming Fan jealous in that sense already in both books and donghua? Why not also make Binghe jealous like that instead of changing a core part of him? Binghe is possessive, and as such, he gets jealous.

Like, this is literally such an integral part of who Luo Binghe is!! His desire to be at Shen QIngqiu's side and his jealousy when he sees other's at his side instead push so much of the story and drive him. Even if you take away the gay, Binghe is still a disciple obsessed with his shizun, wanting to be a good disciple, help Shen Qingqiu, keep him safe, lift some of his burdens... There are plenty of characters in all types of stories who are like that for each other that don't have a romantic connection. Even within svsss universe, aren't Shen Qingqiu's other disciples really protective of him and eager to help him with anything?

It just makes no sense to me why they would change and censor it in this way.

I think your Cass cheerleader au is pretty cool. I mean I felt weird about Cass being a cheerleader for a second, but upon examining my feelings, that's because when I think about the various characters being in teenaged education I do imagine them as being in like sixth form in britian. which is my own set of issues lol.

Now that you mention it for some reason I can't imagine American characters being in the UK education system, I can imagine English characters being in the American education (thank you merlin fic writers) but the other way round it's like I don't even know too much of a different genre?
